A new time-restricted Quest and Collections Mission has been released on the same day as the start of the new Hallowe'en Theme Farm Beauty Contest. Note that the Decorations given as the special Rewards for the Farm Investigation Mission are not part of the Hallowe'en Theme.
The Collections Mission has a Reward that is a 'Collectable', which means that it cannot be purchased in the Market at this point. You therefore need to complete the Collections Mission by the time you reach Farm Investigation 8 with the task of placing the Chia Bush on the Farm, or be prepared to pay 10 RC to skip the task.
Note that the traditional Quest sequence follows the recent change that extends the number of parts to 16 and basically is divided between the first part, that requires access only to the original Seaside Farm and the second part, that requires access to the Island. At the end of Farm Investigation 8, you will receive a special Reward in the form of a Decoration for your original Farm. If you continue from there through Farm Investigation 16, you will receive a special Decoration for your Island Farm.
Recently, the Botanic Garden has been included in these Quest sequences and there is a task that requires that you tend flowers in your Garden six times. The same task appeared in the last time-restricted Quest. Evidently, the original task envisioned was to crossbreed a flower but that was considered too difficult...
It appears that this Mission is unlocked only when you reach Level 18.
Island Transport Tips
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
If you have access to the Island and intend to complete the entire Quest sequence, it may be useful to make certain that you have all the ingredients required to produce Task items in advance when possible. For example, you will need a total of 50 Blueberries and 30 Strawberries for use in Island Machines to produce items for Tasks later in the sequence. The actual transport of these fruits is not a task in itself so can be done in advance. Note that 50 Honey will be required for the Pies, but I recommend that players ALWAYS have plenty of Honey in the Island Barn as it is used in more than one Island Machine.
Note that the Strawberries have to be dried in the Dehydrator before they can be used to make the Strawberry Bread in the Flavoured Bread Machine. You can dry them in advance.
On the other hand, transport of 60 Cotton IS one of the tasks in the sequence. A note of caution here: if you are transporting the fruits, make certain that you either transport the Cotton at a separate time or collect everything only when you reach the point in the sequence where the Cotton transport task is active. You cannot pick and choose which items to collect. Once the Cotton has arrived, you either have to collect it and everything else that has arrived or wait until you have reached the point in the Quest sequence where the Cotton is required.
Another item that can be transported to the Island in advance is the Ostrich Feathers needed to produce 50 Ostrich Hats. The transport is not a task in the sequence, so send them to the Island after producing them.

Strategies for Mission
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
You have 11 days to complete both the Collections Mission and the Farm Investigation Quest sequence, so there really is no need to rush through either, unless you are involved in some sort of personal competition with other farmers. It can be expensive to skip tasks or even to use Farm Aids to speed their completion. I know from experience as I do try to complete these Quests as quickly as possible on my Harvest Moon Farm in order to write this little guide... on Rosewood, on the other hand, I take my time.
If you are willing to spend RC to skip any tasks, the one to skip in this sequence is the placement of the Chia Bush on your Farm. If you spend 10 RC, you can skip the task rather than waiting to complete the Collections Mission. What this means, however, is that you will need to spend 6 RC more to purchase the Chia Seeds needed to make the Chia Pudding. Do not by any means skip THAT task. You will need those Chia Puddings later to make Chia Porridge. I do advise you to complete the Collections Mission because you cannot buy the Chia Bush in the Market at this point, although Collectables that are Quest rewards are added to the Market once the Quest expires. You will need more Chia Seeds later in the sequence in any case.
If you cannot move forward to complete current tasks, use the time to make the basic ingredients needed in some of the Cooked Dishes. You really ought to have certain Dishes in your Barn at all times. These include Batter, Cake Flour, Soft Dough, Sour Cream, Cheese Salad, Cornmeal and Coconut Milk. Cottage Cheese and Condensed Milk are other basics that appear again and again. In truth, Orange Crumble and Steak Tartare are used frequently and both are required to complete Tasks in this sequence. Egg Soup is needed for one of the Recipes in this Quest sequence and is made with Seaweed, so make certain that you have sufficient Seaweed on hand in advance if possible. One of the tasks requires 8 uses of the Squid Hook but if you use the Boost, it counts as a single use.

Hallowe'en Farm Beauty Contest
The 3rd Farm Beauty Contest in the form of a Hallowe'en Beauty Contest now has begun. The following are tips on how to meximise your potential to gain votes.
First of all, it is important to know which Decorations and Items are theme-related. You can access the list yourself by tapping on the Farm Beauty Contest icon in your menu and then tapping on the book icon. You will see the following list:
Pumpkin Fountain: Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 1 Vote each day for this.
Hallowe'en Fence: Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 1 Vote each day for this.
Pumpkin Light: Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 2 Votes each day for this.
Flower Torch: Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 1 Vote each day for this.
Ghost Broom, Reward of the 3rd Beauty Contest: Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 2 Votes each day for this. This will be the Decoration that is awarded for a specific number of Votes like the Backpack and Whale Decorations from previous Contests. Every time you reach a specified total, you will receive rewards. Most of them consist of Farm Aids and Purple Mystrons but somewhere in the middle of the list is a Decoration and at the very end, there is a special Avatar with RC Rewards.
Scarecrow: Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 1 Vote each day for this.
Strange Scarecrow: Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 1 Vote each day for this.
Spooky Tree: Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 2 Votes each day for this.
Bat House: Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 1 Vote each day for this.
Pumpkin Tombstone: Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 1 Vote each day for this.
Stereo Casket: Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 2 Votes each day for this.
Straw Witch: Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 2 Votes each day for this.
Running Mummy: Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 4 Votes each day for this.
Witch Legs: Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 2 Votes each day for this.
Jack O'Lantern Machine: Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 3 Votes each day for this.
Pumpkin Tower, Reward for Month of October 2015: Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 1 Vote each day for this.
Skeleton Rockstar Diva: Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 5 Votes each day for this.
Halloween Stage: Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 3 more Votes each day for this when it finally is completed
Skeleton Rockstar Frontman: Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 3 more votes each day for this.
Now, it is important to remember that 'theme-related Decorations only account for a quarter of the Votes given by Felicia, Darryl and Dad. I believe that once you achieve the total that is the maximum those Characters can give to you for theme, you will not be able to earn any more Votes from them for THAT, irrespective of the number of Theme Decorations that you purchase and place. Bear this in mind when you are tempted to go mad in the upcoming sales. I personally believe the total is 18 or 20 Votes, depending on the Character. Dad only has 72 Votes to offer. I therefore believe his Theme total might be two Votes lower...
Some of the Theme Decorations can be purchased using Yellow Mystrons. These are the Pumpkin Fountain, Hallowe'en Fence and Flower Torch. Each will cost 100 Yellow Mystrons. They cannot be cleaned, by the way.
The Scarecrow was the only Theme Decoration that can be purchased in the ordinary Market for Coins until more items were added temporarily. See the section on Theme Items below for a full list. The Spooky Tree costs 8 RC. Some of the Decorations, including the Running Mummy and Witch Legs were offered in a special Hallowe'en Sale last year and are being offered again in sale parcels that include RC and trees. These at present are the Running Mummy and the Witch Legs, for old items and three new items in the form of the Skeleton Rockstar Frontman, the Stereo Casket and the Skeleton Rockstar Diva.
Although there is a 'ceiling' to the number of Votes you can earn from the three Characters for Theme, there is no limit to the possible Charm Point total. How does this benefit you? For the Characters who value Charm, once again, you can achieve only a total of 18 or 20 Votes each day for that aspect of your Farm from those Characters... once you achieve that, additional Charm points will not be considered by the Characters. After that total is reached, additional Charm only benefits as far as your global rating is concerned. It does not affect your Votes from Neighbours or at least it did not do so in the previous contests. If anything changes in this respect, I will update this post. If this Contest follows the rules of the previous ones, you will find that each Farmer has 3 Votes per day to give to Neighbours.
Of course, I would be thrilled if farmers who used my site would be willing to send their Votes to Harvest Moon or Rosewood Farms. I would prefer Harvest Moon only because I have no hope of winning the Contest with Rosewood or even being placed in the top 50 globally. Thanks to my readers and neighbours, Harvest Moon did place in the top 50 in the last Contest. I would like to thank every one who voted for me again. As I wrote previously, I do not make any money with my site. I do not have any adverts on it and do not promote anything other than the game itself. I write the guide because I always find a good guide useful when playing a game and I believe other players feel the same, so if you wish to give me anything, please give your Votes! To do this, tap on the FINAL icon for 'My Neighbours' and then 'Visit' Harvest Moon or Rosewood. Once at the farm, you can choose to Vote once for it or use all three Votes in quick succession. That is how the Voting procedure works.
There evidently is another player who has given her farm the name of Harvest Moon. My farm always will have an avatar of a hawk on a tree against a blue sky. I took the photo myself long ago in my garden in the middle of an urban area. Freyashawk has been the name under which I have written guides for years Harvest Moon was the game for which I wrote most of my guides. I have changed my farm name a little to Harvest Moon FDC, adding my initials at the end.
Having promoted my farms shamelessly, I now would like to try to help low level Farmers who may feel the contests are pointless. THEY ARE NOT! Even if your Charm total is low and you have no hope of placing in the top 50, you can earn valuable Rewards from your Farm and from your Votes.
Whether you vote for my farms or not, please do take the time to vote EVERY Day as you will earn a Gold Treasure Chest that contains Farm Aids when you do. At least, that was the case in the previous Contests. If anything changes, I will update this information.
Now, how can you boost the Votes of the four Characters even if your Charm totals are low and you cannot afford to buy Theme Decorations with real Cash?
First of all, each of the four Characters bases his/her Votes on different aspects of your Farm. As shown in the list of Theme Decorations, there are three Characters who give Votes for the Theme. Votes are given by different Characters, however, for a wide variety of Crops, for Trees, for Animals and for Machines. Gallery Registration will give you Votes with two Characters. Expansions count as well...
So what I suggest to every Farmer is to make certain that you have registered as many items on your Farm as possible before the Contest begins and if you cannot complete this task prior to the start, keep registering your Items until they all have been added to the Gallery. This cannot give you more than a total of 18 or 20 Votes daily but if you do qualify for the maximum number of Votes for Gallery from the two Characters that value this aspect of Farming, you will be in a good position.
Expansions give Votes as well so make certain that you have completed as many Farm expansions as possible on your original Farm. I do not think that the Island counts for this, because the Farm Beauty Contest is only for the original Seaside Farm.
It is not mere ownership of items that gives Votes but PLACEMENT of them on your Farm. When the Contest begins, place a good balance of Animals and Machines on your Farm and plant a variety of Crops as well as making certain that you have as many different types of Trees as possible. Again, each of these aspects of farming will not give more than a total of 18 or 20 of the Votes of the Character or Characters who value them. Each Character has four different categories of farming upon which his or her Votes are based.
As previously indicated, Charm is valued by some of the Characters but piling Decorations on your Farm is pointless as there is a ceiling to the number of Votes given by the Characters for your Charm. I therefore would recommend that farmers who cannot place in the top 50 globally focus more on creating a balanced Farm with a good mixture of Crops, Trees, Animals and Machines than attempting to load your Farm with duplicate Decorations or indeed Decorations that are not cleanable once you have exhausted your normal stock of Theme Decorations and a certain number of Charm points. The members of my Group on Facebook, Family Farm Seaside Freyashawk and I experimented with this during the last Contest to see how Votes would be affected. it really did not require too many Decorations to achieve the maximum number of Votes from a Character who valued either Charm or Theme... beyond that, one was using space on the farm that would be better allocated to ANOTHER aspect of farming that would garner Votes from a Character.
Theme-related Decorations only add to 'Theme' Votes from a Character ONCE. I have confirmed this myself. Harvest Moon had the Witch Legs and Running Mummy from last year. In the current sale, therefore, only the purchase and placement of the Skeletn Rockstar Frontman added to the Characters' Vote total. I think this is why the placement of an additional Pumpkin Fountain failed to add to the Vote total for Harvest Moon.
Now, this is how low level Farmers can benefit from full participation in the Contest. There is a list of Rewards given for achieving specific Vote totals. Every couple hundred Votes or so, you will receive a specific Reward. Most of them consist of Farm Aids, Coins and Purple Mystrons but there is a Decoration Reward and at the very top of the list, two Rewards that consist of RC, the final one being paired with a special Avatar. Again, this was the case in previous Contests but if it is different for this one, I will update accordingly.
Your Votes from the four Characters DO make a difference, therefore, even if you cannot achieve huge totals of Votes or place globally. You can achieve a number of the Rewards on the list if you maintain a balanced Farm.
NONE of this will count, however, if you do not take photos of your Farm. The Votes of the four Characters are determined by your CURRENT PHOTO in the Contest. In other words, give your Farm the greatest advantages in terms of Crops, Trees, Animals and Machines as well as Decorations, take your photograph and THEN AND ONLY THEN store items or do whatever is necessary for REAL work on your Farm. A new time-restricted Mission should be released tomorrow if everything goes according to the regular schedule. You may need to store items in order to produce products and so on... so start your day by registering for the Farm Beauty Contest by taking a photo after you have made your Farm as profitable, vote-wise as possible. You then will be free to get on with the business of real farming.
I am not certain if there is any need to take a new photograph every day if nothing improves on your farm. It is only if you purchase or obtain a new item that will count towards a Character's Vote total that you need to take a new photograph... at least that is my instinct. Make certain, though, that you do not take your photographs unless everything is as balanced as possible. There is no point in attaining a good score with Dad but lowering your score with a different Character, for example, by having too many Machines and not enough Animals on your Farm.
The Contest now is live and appears to follow the same rules as previous contests. Good luck to all of us!
Voting for my farm
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I understand that every one involved in the Contest would like to have your votes but if you have found my site useful, I do ask that you think of me when casting your Votes in the Beauty Contest. I do not receive any pay for the work I do, but your votes would be a form of thanks that I greatly would appreciate. Sadly, there is another farm that goes now by the name of Harvest Moon but mine always will have the same avatar of a hawk in a tree in my old garden... and I have added my initials FDC now to my farm name of Harvest Moon. My level currently is 85. Thank you.
My second farm is Rosewood and if you are not a neighbour of Harvest Moon FDC, please consider voting for little Rosewood...
Gaining Votes from Multiple Farms
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
You can have more than one farm if you have more than one Facebook account or if a friend allows you to use his/her account for Family Farm Seaside. Each Farm can vote three times per day, but there is a catch here and it probably was designed to prevent farmers from creating a large number of farms for the purpose solely of voting for the primary farm in any Beauty Contest.
The Farm Beauty Contest only unlocks at Level 16. In other words, you certainly can have more than one Farm and use the Votes from one to promote the other but it requires a fair amount of energy and time to bring the subsidiary farm to the level required! Just a note to advise players of the rules with respect to Voting privileges.
Gift Box Colours in Gallery
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Farm Aids always are vital in this game, and I spent hours in the past logging the results of cleaning Neighbours' Decorations to see which Decorations yielded the coveted Blue or Gold Box... Although you still can find this information on my site, you now can access it yourself very easily by looking in your Gallery. Every Decoration now is colour-coded. It is the background colour that determines the colour of the Gift Box. The Blue Box Decorations have a gold or yellow background, oddly enough.
Theme Items in Market
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
The current Halloween Farm Beauty Contest overlaps somewhat with these Events and some of the old items from previous years and quests now have been added to the market. To wit:
Spooky Tree: 8 RC (I do believe this is available always)
Bat House: 18 RC (temporarily available, once the reward for a quest, steep price, but produces Bat Milk when Bats pollinate specific trees including the Sakura and Spooky Trees)
Pumpkin Tombstone: 10 RC, produces 6 Charm (temporarily available) Limit 1
Halloween Fence: 5000 Coins (temporarily available, Charm 1, no limit) Unlocked at Level 26 unfortunately for low level farmers, jolly unfair, that

Witch Legs: 2 Charm Points and 2 Theme Votes
Gives Silver Cleaning Box, least valuable of all
Skeleton Rock Star Frontman: 6 Charm Points and 3 Theme Votes
Gives Purple Cleaning Box
Stereo Coffin, 7 Charm Points, 2 Theme Votes
Gives Gold Cleaning Box
Skeleton Rockstar Diva, 8 Charm Points, 5 Theme Votes
Gives 10 Yellow Mystrons for 7 Days, then Blue Gift Box

Truly Charming and Beautiful Farms
The fairly new option in FFS of the Farm Beauty Contest has brought the idea of 'Charm' into the game. Although the four Characters do recognise different aspects of Farming, Charm Points as such are based on allocating specific point values to Decorations.
Unfortunately, the official manner in which Charm points are awarded in the Farm Beauty Contest does not really honour true Charm or Beauty on Farms necessarily. When I visit a particularly beautiful farm, it gives me joy and I wish there were some way to recognise the work that goes into these landscapes. I made a post for it in my Family Farm Seaside Freyashawk Group but then realised that many of the farms mentioned may have no connection whatsoever to members of my group!
So here is a little post to mention some of the beautiful Farms I have seen recently. In many cases, they have low 'Charm' point totals, which to me is sad... If your farm is not mentioned and you are a neighbour of Harvest Moon or Rosewood and you have a truly beautiful Farm, it probably means I did not get to it yet...

More about Friendship Flowers and Gardening on the Island
The Botanic Garden is situated on the Island. There is a total of 12 places for flowerpots in the garden and four places for Neighbour flowerpots. Only two of your own places will be unlocked at the start. Tools that can be used on flowerpots include trowels called 'spades' and trimmers. These can be used at specific intervals only. One cannot purchase any of the possible upgrades for the Garden, whether in the form of more places for flowerpots or to unlock the 'Glasshouse'. You only can unlock new options by growing flowers and engaging in other Garden actions.
Other tools apart from the Spade and Trimmer that will be unlocked at higher levels include Insecticide, a UV Light and Music. Music can be used only on a Level 3 Flower.
Your Garden Level is displayed on a pillar with a five-petal flower or five-point star on top of it. After planting a second flower and using 1 Trowel/Spade on each of the flowers, my Level remained Level 1 but I had earned 3 out of the 8 points needed to ascend to Level 2. Each Level upgrade requires more points.
Your Botanic Garden Level has nothing whatsoever to do with your general Experience Level. You raise it only by tending your Garden. Initially the Greenhouse when unlocked had a limited number fo plots for your own Friendship Flowers and you had to unlock the remainder by increasing your Level. When the developers began to issue special sale Friendship Flowers, however, I do believe all farmers were given the total of 5 Greenhouse slots.
There are three little stalls to the right of the Pillar. The first is the Mystery Shop. The second is a Flower Book akin to your Fish Book, listing all possible Flowers and your own mastery of them. The third is a help stall, indicated by a question mark.
Once a flowerpot is placed, tending the flower is time-based. The icon of the Tool that is needed to tend the Flower will appear above the flowerpot and, provided you have the Tool ins question, all that is needed is a tap of a finger. It appears that the actual Tool that is needed is random, although certain tools such as the UV Light and Insecticide require a specific level of Garden experience.
The Flower Book contains the following:
Ordinary Flower Chapter:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Venus Flytrap
Viola Tricolour
Chrysanthemum
Epiphyllum
All ordinary Flowers can be purchased from the Shop. You need to access the Shop regularly to see what is available on any given day at any given time. Remember that you can refresh the list of Items offered for Coin purchase.
Each Flower has a different growing time and the time that must elapse before another Tool can be used is different in each case. The Chrysanthemum is one of the slowest-growing flowrs. The Viola Tricolour appears to be one of the fastest. You need not grow two of the same type of Flower in order to complete the requirement to grow 2 Level 2 Flowers for the Mission. Obviously you do not need two of the same type to create a hybrid. As the Mystery Shop Coin Menu will change each time you refresh, you can choose to wait until the flower you want appears, even when you have an empty space in your garden.

Mystery Shop
xxxxxxxxxxxx
The new Mystery Shop offers the opportunity to buy new Flowers for the Garden, more implements for the Garden, as well as items from both the original Seaside Farm and the Island Farm, provided always that you have unlocked the Island and the Garden. If not, you will not see the Items from the Garden or the Island Items. On my second farm initially, I had unlocked the Island but not made the expansion that allowed the Garden to appear. I therefore saw only regular Island Items and Seaside Items in the Mystery Shop. Note, however, that Crops and products you may not have unlocked yet WILL appear in the Mystery Shop from time to time, as well as a multitude of Sea creatures. For players like me who dislike the fishing option, it is great to be able to buy seafood supplies in the shop now.
The Mystery Shop moreover, in terms of the new Coin option is on a timer that allows the player to refresh up to four times, depending on the amount of time that has passed.
Be advised that you can have only a limit of 99 tools of any kind for the Garden. When you have 99 Spades, you cannot purchase more until you have used some of them.
Seeds for flowers cannot be stored. If you do not have a spot to plant the seed, you cannot purchase it.
Greeenhouse
xxxxxxxxxxx
The Greenhouse is where your own Friendship Flowers are located, both the real Friendship Flowers and those that you have purchased in a special sale. You can keep purchased Friendship Flowers in your Gift Box, however, if you wish to keep a slot or two open for a real Freindship Flower.
When a Friendship Flower has been created in your garden, it immediately will go into the Greenhouse. You then need to open the Greenhouse to tap on the flower in order to find a Neighbour to tend it. When you have chosen the Neighbour, you then need to visit his/her Island farm to place your flower on an empty Neighbour Plot by tapping on the plot.
There is a new option in Seaside that allows you to place a special welcome pink or red ribbon round your Neighbour plots to let your Neighbours know that you would welcome Friendship Flowers. Although most farmers do welcome the chance to tend them, there are farmers who would rather not have the burden of what can be considerable labour, especially if the flower is Level 2. Thus the new option.
If you find that your Neighbour is not tending your Flower, you should be able to take it back and place it on another farm. If you do this, however, all growth progress will be lost to the flower. It is not a step to be taken hastily. Some farmers have more access to the internet and the game than others. It may not be neglect but lack of access that makes one farmer slower to grow your Flowers than another.
More about Friendship Flowers
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
As discussed previously, the Botanic Garden is on the Island and is tied to one of the Island expansions. It has begun to feature in the time-restricted Missions so if you have access to the Island but have not made that particular expansion, you may wish to do so.
Ordinary Flowers
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
There are three different types of flowers basically. There are the ordinary Flowers that you buy in the Mystery Shop, grow on your side of the Botanic Garden and then crossbreed with another mature Flower os the same Level after it has grown to maturity itself. These flowers all can be found in your Flower Book in the first three categories or chapters.
Real Friendship Flowers
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
The second type of Flower is what call the real Friendship Flower. All types appear in your Book in the final chapter for Friendship Flowers. They can be produced only through crossbreeding and are a random result. Usually, you will find that a Level 3 Flower crossbred with another Level 3 Flower is the one most likely to produce a Friendship Flower although it can occur with two Level 2 Flowers as well. The Friendship Flower you obtain in this situation would be a level 1 Flower.
It is when a real Friendship Flower is sent to a Neighbour, brought to maturity and crossbred that you may receive a level 2 Friendship Flower. Again, this is a random result. Too many times, you will tend to the Friendship Flower a neighbour has entrusted to you only to obtain an ordinary Flower when you finally are able to crossbreed it.
Clam Friendship Flower
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
The Clam Friendship Flower is a REAL Friendship Flower now given as a reward for completing any timed mission's Collection Set within the period before it expires (or within a few hours of expiration!). Even if you have not unlocked the Botanic Garden yet, you WILL receive a Clam Friendship Flower if you complete the Collection Set in time. It will go into your Gift Box and can be used later.
Even if you have unlocked the Botanic Garden, you need to have reached Level 6 in the Garden before you will unlock the first slot in your Glasshouse/Greenhouse. You then can transfer any Clam Friendship Flower you have earned from your Gift Box to the Glasshouse and from there, place it on any neighbour's farm provided that neighbour has space for it. There is no time limit to placing Friendship Flowers.
Note that you now can completed timed missions that have expired from the Lighthouse but you cannot earn the Clam Friendship Flower once the original time period given for the initial registration of the Collection Set expires. You still will be able to register the Collection Set for the ordinary rewards of 1 RC and 88 Green Mystrons but the Clam Friendship Flower will not be included any longer.
Special Sale Friendship Flowers
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Finally, there is the type of Friendship Flower that you obtain through purchase in a sale. These, as of August 2017, have been of a number of different varieties: the Ice Cream Flower and the Macaron Flower, the Fire Chocolate Flower, the Snowflake Friendship Flower, the Coffee Friendship Flower and the Cocktail Friendship Flower. The Ice Cream Flower gives higher RC when crossbred than the Macaron but the Macaron has two separate Decorations associated with it. When you have opened your 8th Gift Bag from a Macaron Flower, you receive the Spoon Shovel Decoration. When you open the 10th, you receive the Macaron Flower Decoration. Both can be registered in the Gallery.
Note that the Coffee Friendship Flower gives Pet Cards as rewards both to the host and the neighbour who grows the flower to maturity and crossbreeds it.
The Friendship Flowers that appear in sales are not included in your Flower Book and no one I know ever received a Friendship Flower or even rare Flower from crossbreeding one. The real purpose of these is to share RC with a friend and to earn XP towards the upgrade of your Botanic Garden.
Now, however, Botanic Garden Flowers can be registered in the Gallery in a separate department and all of the special sales Friendship Flowers are included.
Colourful Plumeria
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Note that the Colourful Plumeria is tied to this type of Friendship Flower. It only appears in the Mystery Shop when the sales are running and no one I know ever received a rare flower from crossbreeding the Colourful Plumeria with another flower. The purpose of this type is speed... it matures faster even than the Epiphyllum or Tricolour Violet. It appears to be related to both of these actually as the flowers you receive when you crossbreed the Plumeria tend to be one or the other of these.
How to Crossbreed a Friendship Flower

Any Friendship Flower, whether it is a 'real' Friendship Flower or a 'sale' Friendship Flower will be located on the left side of the Botanic Garden. There is a total of four plots on the left side of the Garden. You cannot place a Flower there or use the space for crossbreeding. ONLY A NEIGHBOUR CAN PLACE A FLOWER ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE GARDEN.
There is a fairly new option for the left side of the garden where you can place a little pink fence to indicate your willingness to accept and grow Friendship Flowers. Tap on the individual plot to place the little ribbon fence and you will see the option either to place it or to let your Neighbours know that you do NOT want any Friendship Flowers. You must do this for each of the four plots separately. These ribbon fences do expire. When one expires, you will receive a notification. Simply place a new one...
You tend Friendship Flowers in the same way that you tend your own Flowers located on the right side of the Garden. The time between tendings is random, although Level 2 and Level 3 Flowers obviously take longer to mature and may have longer time spans between tending. The sale Friendship Flowers can be tended more frequently than any other flowers. As they usually carry special rewards in the form of RC and even on occasion a special Decoration, this allows these Rewards to be earned more quickly.
When any Flower, either on your side of the Garden or the Neighbour side of the Garden matures, you will see a message to that effect. Once any Flower matures, you can crossbreed it. It is essential to do so where the flowers on the left side of the Garden are concerned, because their placement is an act of trust on the part of your Neighbour. If you fail to crossbreed a mature Flower on the left side of the Garden, the Neighbour who sent it has every right to take it back and foster it again elsewhere.
In order to crossbreed ANY Flower, you msut have a Mature Flower of the same Level. If the Flower is on the left side of the garden, you will need a mature Flower on the right side of the Garden in order to be able to crossbreed.
Directions for Crossbreeding
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
When any Flower on the left side of the Garden matures, you need to use the Move Tool to drag it to a Mature Flower of the same Level on the right side of the Garden. Place it on top of the Mature Flower on the right side of the Garden and you will see the option to Crossbreed. It only takes a moment to crossbreed any flower. When complete, the result will depend on the type of flowers that were crossbred as follows:
If both flowers are on your side of the Garden, YOU will create a new Flower. It could be a regular flower of a higher level, a special Flower of a higher Level or a real Friendship Flower. By crossbreeding two flowers on your side of the Garden, you will free a plot there. The new flower will go on one of the plots but the other will become vacant.
If one flower is on the left side of the Garden, you need to take it to the right side of the Garden to crossbreed. The results will depend on the type of Flower sent by your Neighbour.
If your Neighbour sent you a 'real' Friendship Flower, the results will be one of the following:
A regular Flower of a higher Level
A special Flower
Another 'real' Friendship Flower
If your Neighbour sent you a 'sale' Friendship Flower, the results will be one of the following:
A regular Flower of a higher level
A special Flower
Random Results
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I remember when the fishing option first was released in Seaside. We logged all the results of the position in which the bait was cast to try to discern the nature of the catch. Utterly useless: results are random. I firmly believe it is the same for the Botanic Garden. We could log our results until the proverbial cows come home and still not have any way to make certain that we obtain specific flowers in crossbreeding. I do hope that the developers will modify the incidence of obtaining the Level 2 Friendship Flowers when Level 1 Friendship Flowers such as the Cupcake Flower, Doughnut Flower and Lollipop Flowers are crossbred. Even more time and energy goes into the tending of the level 2 Friendship Flowers and when one ultimately obtains only a common Flower after crossbreeding one, it is too depressing for words. Not to mention how upset I am not to be able to send a rare Friendship Flower back to its owner after crossbreeding finally occurs. I really think that this aspect of the game needs to be changed in our favour.
There are different probabilities, however. Apart from the possible result of a Friendship Flwoer when two ordinary Flowers are crossbred, there is a possibility of obtaining a flower tyat is rare. The rare types are the Jagger Lips, the Lily, the Rafflesia and the Rose.
In my own experience, the Lily appears to be associated with the Epiphyllum and Viola Tricolour while the Jagger Lips appears to be associated with the Venus Flytrip and possibly the Chrysanthemum. I personally believe that although all the rare types are described as having a 'rare chance' of appearing in the Flower Book, it is the Rafflesia and the Rose that are the rarest of all. No one I know ever has obtained one so far...
Here I am descending to the realm of pure speculation. Is it possible that one only can obtain the Rafflesia or the Rose by crossbreeding two OTHER rare flowers such as the Jagger Lips and the Lily? Time will tell...
It is possible that the appearance of the Rafflesia and Rose, although random, may be more likely if you are at the highest level of Experience in the Botanic Garden. On the other hand, the Jagger Lips was a result on my lower level Rosewood Farm long before Freyashawk obtained it on the higher level Harvest Moon Farm. The Botanical Garden is at a higher level there, in other words, than Rosewood's Botanical Garden. So perhaps it is entirely random after all. It does seem odd though that none of the farmers to whom I have spoken have had either Rafflesia or Rose.
A little note here about the nature of the Rafflesia. It is famous in the Animal Crossing series of games as a terrible weed that occurs if you neglect your village shamelessly and fail to pull your regular weeds... In the Rune Factory series, it is a 'boss' monster you must defeat. In Seaside, it is a rare flower.
I have used the basic designation for the rare flowers rather than using the Level names. In other words, there are Super Lilies and Mega Lilies, Super Jagger Lips and Mega Jagger Lips...
Finally, your ability to send Friendship Flowers out to Foster Care depends partly on your experience Level in the Botanic Garden. Initially it began with two slots but when they released the sales with the Macaron Friendship Flower, they expanded the number of slots even for low level Botanic Farmers to four. When you purchase a Sale flower, you can keep it in your Gift Box until needed. I recommend this actually as I had a situation where a real Friendship Flower from a neighbour matured but I did not have any free slots in my Glasshouse. I was uncertain if this would affect my chances to produce a Level 2 Friendship Flower as it would have nowhere to go. I therefore had to wait until one of my existing Friendship Flowers on Neighbours' Garden plots matured in order to clear a space in the Greenhouse for the hypothetical Friendship Flower.
There is a question here as well. Where should you send your Friendship flowers for foster care? Well, there is a little reciprocal rule that is unofficial. Where sale flowers are concerned, when some one sends one to you, it is good manners to send one to that farmer if you have any. Where real Friendship Flowers are concerned, should you be fortunate enough to breed a Level 2 type, you really ought to send it back to the farmer who sent it to you for fostering in the first place.
Although there are many farmers who request Friendship Flowers, there are others who do not bother much with the garden. The speed with which a flower matures depends partly upon the frequency with which you tend it. I have a post in my Family Farm Seaside Freyashawk Group where farmers can post their Friendship flower requests and status. Remember that any Friendship Flower has to be crossbred with a normal Flower when it matures, so keeping Level 1 mature flowers in the Garden is one factor that makes some farmers more desirable 'foster parents' than others.
Note that, if you feel that a farmer is not tending the Friendship Flower you placed in his/her garden, there is an option to take it back and re-foster it somewhere else. Any progress made in its growth will be lost of course if you do so but if you see that the farmer truly is inactive, it is good to know that you can rescue your flower from oblivion.
Garden Strategies
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
It is your Farm, your Island and your Botanic Garden. How you choose to allocate your resources there is your business, but there are a couple of consideration that may or may not make a difference. First of all, there is a Quest sequence that is associated with the Botanic Garden. Quest sequences on the Island give Dev Points and these are critical if you wish to have access to all options, including the Pizza Machine.
You do have a limited number of plots in your Garden and a limited number of slots in your Glasshouse. You will reach a point ultimately where you may be forced to make some difficult choices. Do you opt for the Friendship Flower strategy by keeping as many mature Level 1 Flowers in your Garden as possible or do you concentrate on your own Flower Book and the business of raising Level 2 and then Level 3 Flowers. With the sales, I found that I was selling every Level 2 Flower that was obtained through crossbreeding instantly without tending it at all, thereby losing potential income and the ability to add another result to my book in the interest of replacing it with another Level 1 Flower for potential crossbreeding with a Macaron Flower from a Neighbour. That was the choice I made but other players may make a very different decision.
Level 1 Flowers ar ethe quickest to mature and each type has a different growth rate. Level 2 Flowers take longer but the slowest are the Level 3 Flowers. As you increase your Garden experience level, you will unlock new plots but it takes time. The Botanic Garden really is a cosmic lesson in patience.

Dream Trip to Korea Quest and Fortune Bags Collections Mission
With the final material for the Salad Machine still tied to an active Quest sequence, the new Friday timed Mission has been released in the form of a Fortune Bag Collections Mission and a traditional Quest sequence. This time it is Grandma who is the star of the little tale. She finally has determined to go on a trip herself. My own Grandmother actually became rather well-known in some circles for taking a trip to Nepal at a fairly advanced age and ultimately settling there, becoming an English tutor to the then Crown Prince! So Grandmothers, as we all know, are not tired old people without their own hopes and dreams. In fact, many Grandmother are not even old!
Be that as it may, here are the Quests:
Fortune Bags Collection Mission
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Collect Fortune Bags
70 Blue Fortune Bags from Cane
50 Red Fortune Bags from Wine
30 Yellow Fortune Bags from Wheat Bread
10 Green Fortune Bags from Gooseberry Bush
(Sorry for typo earlier. I have a jumping cursor problem that deletes my typing from time to time. Good thing I have two farms, forcing me to use my own guide!)
Reward: Tangerine Tree
If you prefer, the Tangerine Tree can be purchased in the Market for 8 RC
The following is the traditional quest sequence. The nature of these time-restricted Quests has changed somewhat recently and they now consist of 16 parts, of which only the first 8 can be guaranteed not to include Island tasks. In other words, if you wish to go beyond Part 8, when you receive a special Decoration for your original Seaside Farm, you really need to have access to the Island in order to forge through to the end, where you receive a special Decoration for the Island Farm. There appears to be a Level requirement as well to go beyond Part 8. At least there was for the last time-restricted Mission. I believe that one had to be at Level 28 to go beyond Part 8 in that Mission. My primary farm, Harvest Moon, is at a point where I no longer see any Level requirements but recently, I started a new Farm on a friend's Kindle to see if there were differences between it and other platforms and if the game had changed. I logged the regular Quests on my Quests page, because the initial Quests had changed since I first began to play the game three years ago. In continuing that farm, I began to see that there were restrictions that applied where some of these time-restricted Missions were concerned as well. In any event, if you do not have access to the Island, but are able to perform some of the tasks past Part 8, you can opt to pay RC to skip Island tasks, although it can be very expensive.

Salad Machine Final Touch Mission
The final material for the Salad Machine in the form of a Wooden Bucket now is available. It is tied to a traditional Quest sequence called 'The Final Touch'. If you still are missing Spoons and Forks, you can find them in the Purple Mystery Shop for 10 Purple Mystrons and 15 Purple Mystrons respectively. The Pipes cost 12 Purple Mystrons each. You gain Purple Mystrons when you VOTE in the Farm Beauty Contest. Even if you do not fancy your chances in the Contest, do vote as you will receive a Gold Treasure Chest containing valuable farm aids each day for doing so. You have 3 Votes. If you choose 'Neighbour Farms' and vote for Harvest Moon or Rosewood, I will be very grateful! It is the simple act of Voting on a daily basis, however, that will benefit YOU, wherever you choose to cast those three Votes.
Actually, I do need your Votes for Harvest Moon Farm if I am to obtain the final Reward of the Avatar. Why do I deserve your Votes more than any one else? I cannot answer that, apart from citing the work I do on this site to make information available freely to other Farmers. I would tell you, however, that without your Votes at this critical stage, I have no chance of gaining the final Reward. I had not noticed previously that the totals needed jump suddenly from 200 Votes to 250 and then to a whopping 500 in order to reach the final Reward. In other words, from needing 250 Votes between your score of 5250 to 5500, you need a total of 6000 to obtain the Avatar and RC Reward... So without your help, I cannot hope to reach that goal in the three days that remain. I have been obtaining 70 Votes each day from two of the Characters but less from the other two.
'The Final Touch' is a time-restricted Mission that runs only through the 29th of this month. As there probably will be a new time-restricted Mission on Friday as well, best to get this out of the way if at all possible as quickly as you can.
The new Salad Machine, when completed, makes a dizzying array of Salads. For some, you will need the Oil Press, but not for all. It will be interesting to see if the Oil Press is added to the Market now for those farmers who either had not begun to play the game or were not at high enough levels to perform the Quest when it was active. There is a section at the end of this post that lists all Salads and their ingredients.
This can be a difficult Mission for low level Farmers, but you have a week to complete it for the final Material in the Salad Machine construction. Remember though, if you cannot complete it, you still should be able to buy the Materials ultimately for 1 RC each or use Purple Mystrons to purchase them in the Purple Mystron Shop. Every part of this Mission that you complete will give you 1 Wooden Barrel, so try to forge ahead with it, even if you cannot go through to the end. Do not be discouraged if it is too difficult though, as you will have an opportunity, as previously stated, to finish the Machine either by using RC or Purple Mystrons. If the two Farm Beauty Contests so far are any indication, there will be few days when there is NOT a current Contest running, so you will continue to be able to earn Purple Mystrons as long as you register and Vote.
The total number of dishes required in tasks has changed a couple of times. Will try to make certain I log the latest version here.
Good Neighbour Tip:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
One of the tasks requires that you fertilise Neighbours' Farms 50 times. What this means is that your Neighbours must have at least 5 Crops that are not mature or 5 Trees that are not ready to be harvested in order for your actions to count. Please do keep some immature Crops and Trees on your Farm while this Quest is active. Usually a Neighbour can earn 5 Points for harvesting your Crops but not for this task.
If you are looking for good, active Neighbours, feel free to join my group, Family Farm Seaside Freyashawk on Facebook. The members are active and helpful.
Strategies:
xxxxxxxx
This Mission can be brutal for new or low level Farmers in terms of the amount of Power needed. Make Cooked Dishes that appear as Ingredients in a Task in advance if possible. These include:
Cornmeal
Lavender Cheese
Coffee Cookies
Orange Crumble
Batter (for Orange Crumble)
Sandwich
Coconut Milk
Soft Dough (ingredient that is used in more than one Recipe)
You will need a lot of Corn and a lot of Beef, incidentally.
Salad Machine Animation
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
The Salad Machine is very cool, by the way. An actual Spoon and Fork (presumably the ones that you obtained through your labour!) toss the Salad as you watch. I do hope they will add the Oil Press to the Market for the farmers who could not perform the Quest connected with its acquisition.
NOTE: Totals may be different. When I logged this early this morning with Harvest Moon Farm, the totals for many Crops and Dishes were higher. Now performing the tasks for Rosewood Farm, they are lower. It might be a change for every one or may depend on your Level. Anyway, have done what I could to be precise!
The Final Touch I
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Darryl: Wow, the Salad Machine is coming along really nicely! But I feel that we're still missing something, but what? I hope Felicia has some nice ideas... Let's go ask her, but first let's feed the animals!

Collect 100 Milk
Skip for 50 RC
Harvest 15 Oranges
Skip for 15 RC
Rewards: 1000 Coins, 210 XP, 1 Wooden Bucket
Darryl: I think I'm done here. Let's go see Felicia!
The Final Touch II
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Darryl: Felicia heard all about a 'Veggie Fair'. That would be a great place to get some ideas. But first, let's start with the most important meal of the day. Can you help prepare breakfast?
Prepare 5 bowls of Sunrise Porridge
skip for 5 RC
Each requires 1 Orange Crumble and 1 Cornmeal
Prepare 20 bottles of Apple Milkshake
Skip for 20 RC
Each requires 1 Milk and 1 Apple Juice
Prepare 2 loaves of Whole Oat Fruit Bread
Skip for 2 RC
N.B. For each, you need 1 Fruit Butter and 1 Oat Bread
Each Fruit Butter needs 1 Apple Jelly and 3 Cherries
Each Apple Jelly needs 2 Maple Syrup and 6 Apple Jam
Rewards: 1000 Coins, 210 XP, 1 Wooden Bucket
Darryl: Never knew a healthy breakfast can be delicious food! Thanks for the help!
The Final Touch III
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Darryl: This fair is bigger than I thought! There are so many farmers from all over the world! I think we will see some very cool things here. Where shall we start?
Fertilise your Neighbours' Farms 50 times
Skip for 25 RC
N.B. If all Neighbours visited have growing Crops, this means visits to 10 Neighbours... if not, you will need to visit more. Fertilising Trees counts as well but if you harvest Crops, those actions will not count towards this Task.
Produce 80 bundles of Angora Hair
Skip for 40 RC

Darryl: Wow, the Salad Machine is coming along really nicely! But I feel that we're still missing something, but what? I hope Felicia has some nice ideas... Let's go ask her, but first let's feed the animals!

The Final Touch II
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Darryl: Felicia heard all about a 'Veggie Fair'. That would be a great place to get some ideas. But first, let's start with the most important meal of the day. Can you help prepare breakfast?
Prepare 5 bowls of Sunrise Porridge
skip for 5 RC
Each requires 1 Orange Crumble and 1 Cornmeal
Prepare 20 bottles of Apple Milkshake
Skip for 20 RC
Each requires 1 Milk and 1 Apple Juice

N.B. If all Neighbours visited have growing Crops, this means visits to 10 Neighbours... if not, you will need to visit more. Fertilising Trees counts as well but if you harvest Crops, those actions will not count towards this Task.
