Halloween Party Farm Beauty Contest

As of Tuesday, 10 October, a new Farm Beauty Contest with a Hallowe'en Party Theme.  It has had one of the strangest timelines, having appeared first on Kindle and not being available for Android or IOS until the next day.  All theme items are listed below with prices, the manner in which each can be obtained (or if unavailable currently) as well as prices and any that are worth more than one vote.

Note that the Activity Stage Fortune Hunt has Decoration Rewards that are included in the Theme list as follows:

Halloween Fence
Pumpkin Fountain
Spider Tombstone

Note:  The Boards and Rewards earned in the Fortune Hunt Activity SHOULD be cumulative.  In other words, with a total of 16 Boards, you should be able to claim ALL Rewards.

Other ways to obtain these are included in the Theme List below with prices.

Freyashawk's Harvest Moon FDC: If you find my site helpful, please consider sending votes to Harvest Moon FDC.  My avatar is a photograph of a hawk in a tree against a dark sky.  One reason I try to place in the top ten is to direct new players to this site and to our Facebook Group.  The name under which I have written game guides for a couple of decades is Freyashawk and Harvest Moon was a favourite series of games that I covered, writing over 250 guides for those games over the years.

Here is a link to Family Farm Seaside Freyashawk Group:

We have a pinned post there with a Member List with Farm I.D.s for players who are looking for new neighbours as well as posting useful information about new options in the game.

Basic Rules for Farm Beauty Contest
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The following is taken from a post I wrote for an earlier Farm Beauty Contest but I believe all the same rules still apply:

You really do need to maximise the Votes from the four Characters if you wish to achieve the Decoration at 4000 Votes or the Avatar at 6000 Votes.  Asking for Votes from other players is NOT the answer unless you are very close to 200 Votes per day from the 4 Characters or 300 Votes per day from the same 4 Characters.  Try to organise your farm to maximise votes from the very first day.  It can make a huge difference to your vote total.

Originally, you would obtain the Reward Decoration in the Contest if you were receiving a total of 200 votes per day from the Characters without ever needing votes from other farmers.  The Contest length was changed... now I believe you need 182 votes per day to reach the 4000 Vote total that gives you the Decoration.  The Decoration is the most important reward of the contest.

It is the current photograph or Snapshot of your Farm that is the basis for ALL Votes, not the current state of your Farm if you changed anything.  In other words, take your time to organise your Farm BEFORE you take the initial 'Snapshot' for entry to the Contest.  This can make a big difference as every day counts in these contests.

You can take a new snapshot every day but there is no reason to do so if you have maximised your Farm for all possible Votes.

The key to this is balance.  You need to have a variety of Crops on the Farm.  Try to have 16 different Crops growing... the total number needed may be lower from 12 to 13 but it is easy to grow different Crops and you have nothing to lose.

You need to have at least 12 different Machines on your Farm to obtain the maximum Votes for Machines from Dad.  Some players claim that the Salad Machine has counted as two Machines in the past but again, to be safe, move as many Machines onto your Farm as possible before you take your initial Snapshot.

Do the same with respect to your Trees.  You need a variety of Trees.  Duplicates never count.  Most players should not have any trouble in placing 16 different types of Trees on the farm.  I believe that the total needed is less, possibly 12 or 13 but again, it does no harm to be safe.

Finally, there are the Animals.  Butterfly Houses and Beehives of each type count as Animals and every type counts as a different Animal.

Landscape Points count for Votes with three of the Characters.  You do not even need 2300 Landscape Points to maximise these votes.  I believe the actual total is close to 2250 points but need to confirm for the current contest.  Recently, the game changed to add Landscape Points to Charm Points for a new total.  I will try to pinpoint the number required for maximum votes.

Expansions are another good source of votes.  You only need to have performed a few expansions to gain maximum votes from Felicia and Dad for expansions.

Another category is your Gallery.  Now that you can register Crops and other items, even low level players should be able to maximise votes for a good Gallery.  Votes are based on the totals of the items you have registered.  Your Gallery 'upgrades' at specific totals.

Finally there are votes for a 'high level' farm.  I have not achieved the maximum on Harvest Moon FDC yet because I believe you have to be at Level 150 now for this.

'Theme' gives votes from three of the four Characters.  Your best bet to maximise your Theme Votes if you have not played long or did not collect Reward Decorations for any other reason would be to purchase the Dracula Decoration from the special sale offer in the top right of the screen and when they appear in the near future, the Vampire Queen and the Spider Pumpkin Tree.  They are expensive but if you are not at maximum for Theme, the first  can give you 9 extra Votes for theme each day from the Characters and the Vampire Queen and the Spider Pumpkin Tree each can give 6 extra votes for theme from the Characters..  If you are unwilling or unable to do that, at least place the Hallowe'en Stage for 6 more Votes per day for theme.

Note that both the Jack O'Lantern Machine and the Hallowe'en Stage are included as Theme items in this contest.  You can purchase an unfinished Hallowe'en Stage in the Decoration section of the Market for 3000 Coins and all the materials for it for 15 RC in a bag offered in the Daily Special Deals section.  You can buy another even if you have one from the past.  You do need to complete the first before purchasing a second I believe.  You can buy multiple Hallowe'en Stages but can only buy 1 bag of materials each day to complete each.  My cousin has confirmed that, even if unfinished, the Hallowe'en Stage will be counted as a Theme item.

You can purchase the Jack O'Lantern Machine for 1000 Coins in the Machine department of the Market.  The following are required to complete it:

Jack O'Lantern Machine:
300 Ghost Candles
150 Dracula Wings
50 Witch Cauldrons

To obtain these Materials, equip the special Hallowe'en Hook.  It requires 125 bait per cast but it will give you special Hallowe'en seafood (some included in recipes) and each successful cast will give you one Hallowe'en Hook Lucky Bag that contains 1 Material for the Jack O'Lantern Machine.

If you fish only once each day with the Halloween Hook,  you receive 7 materials.  You need a total of 500 materials.  That means you need at least 30 per day before the Halloween Hook expires on 3 November. Furthermore, if each material costs 1 RC, it would be better to spend your RC by changing it to TC to purchase 5 extra tries with the hook for 200 TC.  That would give you 5 more materials instead of 2.

Above is a photograph of an empty Hallowe'en Stage.  You can purchase the Halloween Stage in the Decoration department for 3000 Coins.  Buy a bag containing ALL Materials for the Stage in the Daily Specials for 15 RC.  You can own a total of 3 Halloween Stages but only one unfinished Stage at a time and you only can buy one bag of materials per day.

Above, three (maximum allowed in game) Hallowe'en Stages, each filled with stackable decorations. Special animations occur when some of the premium Decorations are stacked.  For example, the Vampire Queen issues forth a stream of bats.  The Ghost will become invisible, then transform into a cloud of bats.  Unfortunately, this photograph shows him as invisible!  A little spider climbs round the cobweb on the new Spider Pumpkin Tree as well.

Current Hallowe'en Stage Stackable Decorations List: Position 1: Dracula, Skeleton Rockstar Diva, Shovel, Witch legs, Mystic Rose, White Ghost; Position 2: Vampire Queen, Skeleton Rockstar Frontman, Bunny Reaper, Pumpkin Owl, Alraun Scarecrow; Position 3: Spider Pumpkin Tree, Stereo Coffin, Oak Tree with Owl, Steampunk Scarecrow, Fanoos Ramadhan; Position 4: Pumpkin Tower, Ghost Broom, Pumpkin Light, Wind Chimes, Flower Stand, Spider Tombstone, Pumpkin Cat, Skeleton Candle, Ghost Mirror

Jack O'Lantern Machine:  The developers told me they were aware of the fact that many of the newer players never had a chance to buy one of these....  It now is available in the Market on a temporary basis.  Details elsewhere in this post.

Lucky Wheel:  Many of the Theme Decorations now appear in the Lucky Wheel.  These include the following:

Pumpkin Light: 12 RC
Pumpkin Tower: 10 RC
Straw Witch: 10 RC
Pumpkin Tombstone: 15 RC (But if you buy from Gallery, only 10 RC)
Spider Tombstone: 10 RC

DIY Special Offers and Kindle Users
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Above is a photograph of the Special Offers Menu as it will appear for Android and IOS players.  Players using Kindle will NOT see the second tab with the DIY offers.  Support told me there is an issue currently with Amazon.  If you play on Kindle, you may wish to contact Amazon directly to ask that this be added!  Amazon Coins offer discounted prices for Family Farm Seaside items in a sense, so it makes sense if Kindles are used to play, but if we don't have access to the same offers as players on other platforms, Amazon ultimately will be the loser in this game.

Best Bait for Fishing
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

As the Jack O'Lantern Machine requires a total of 500 materials gained now from fishing, a list of good bait items may be useful for players:

Peach Cobbler: 953 Bait

Drunken Crab: 858 Bait

Crab Meat Yi Mein: 507 Bait

Octopus Ball: 449

Paella: 359

Spaghetti: 349 Bait
  Ingredients:

Cooking Wine: 328 Bait
  Ingredients: 1 Wine, 3 Beans

Sakura Cake: 274 Bait

Summer Toast: 274 Bait

Chocolate Dream Bar: 207 Bait

Bag of Sea Sand: 199 Bait

Lychee Scone: 182 Bait

Cherry Flan: 182 Bait

Blueberry Krispie Bar: 177

Lemon Banana Daiquiri: 172

Orange Ice Cream: 159

Love Cake: 155 Bait

Turkey Burger: 144 Bait

Grape Cornbread: 131

Strawberry Candy: 128 Bait

Caramel: 93

Venison: 76 Bait

I am listing only a few popular items here... Peach Cobbler has one of the highest values but takes a lot of Power and ingredients to make.  Players often have quite a few Love Cakes in the Barn which is why that was included.  Venison is a product, so it requires no Power to obtain.

Personally I do not use the Seafood items I have listed above even though they have high values.  They are needed too often to complete Guest orders and I am not an ardent fisherwoman, so tend to save my seafood items and ingredients.

I am not including the 'basic' ingredients or dishes that are used constantly in the Kitchen such as Soft Dough, worth 154 Bait but too useful elsewhere.  Something like Cooking Wine is good because you do not need it often for other purposes!

You do obtain bags of Bait randomly when your Pets open Chests so that is a good way to obtain more Bait.  The Bait Sheep when cleaned by a visitor gives Bait as well.  It is one of the 'Decoration' Rewards from the Daily Order Board.

I believe bags of bait appear randomly in the Coin section of the Market as well.  I always buy EVERY item that appears in my Coin Market except for the Machine parts that I will not need again.

13 October 2015

Hallowe'en Events, Jack O'Lantern Machine, Hallowe'en Stage

Above, you will see some screenshots of the newly completed Halloween Stage.  The first shows it empty but complete.  If you have the Skeleton Rockstar Frontman, the Skeleton Rockstar Diva, the Stereo Coffin and the Ghost Broom, they can be placed on the stage by using first the Move tool and then using the jigsaw puzzle icon to place them properly.  Doing so will gain you a total of 6 extra Charm Points.  Do note, however, that items must be registered separately while they are off the stage and, if you have not received your full quota of 7 days' worth of Yellow Mystrons from the Diva, you should not have her on the stage until you do!  More about this below in another section of this post.  Note that you receive only 1 Blue Gift Box with items on or off the stage.  If you are a farmer who needs all possible Gift Boxes, remove the items after taking a photograph for the Beauty Contest in order to receive the other Gift Boxes from the individual items.  The Ghost Broom will not give you a Gift Box but the Stereo Coffin gives a Gold one, the Frontman gives a Purple one and the Rockstar Diva, once you have collected 7 days' worth of Yellow Mystrons, will give a Blue Box when cleaned.

Update on 28 October:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The Halloween Hook has disappeared from the fishing pier and you no longer therefore can find the Blue Bricks for the Stage or the materials for the Jack O'Lantern Machine.  Materials for the Jack O'Lantern Machine now will appear randomly in the Yellow Mystron Mystery Shop.   The price is 7 Yellow Mystrons for any Materials but you will obtain different amounts depending on the nature of the Material offered as follows:

You will obtain 7 Ghost Candles
You will obtain 3 Dracula Wings
You will obtain 1 Witch Cauldron (I believe)

Halloween Events and Decorations
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Well, we knew they would be offering some of the Hallowe'en Decorations from the past as well as giving farmers another chance at the Jack O'Lantern Machine.  The Hallowe'en Event has started and includes a special sale, a special Quest sequence that involves the construction of a new Decoration in the form of the Hallowe'en Stage and finally, the ability to purchase and construct the Jack O'Lantern Machine.

Fishing is a part of all this, as they have brought back the special Hallowe'en Hook that allows players to catch the materials needed to complete the Jack O'Lantern Machine.  Be warned... it is a long labour.  I am grateful that Harvest Moon completed that Machine when it was offered in the past!

As of Tuesday, 20 October, I believe that the final Hallowe'en Decorations offered in special sales now are available.  They are the Stereo Coffin, sold with a Lime Tree and 14 RC and the Skeleton Rockstar Diva, sold with Super Watering Cans and 40 RC.

Incidentally, I discovered today that there is another woman who named her farm Harvest Moon but if you wish to vote for my farm, it is always Freyashawk and an icon of a hawk in a tree against a blue sky.  Thank you.

Hallowe'en Stage 1/4

Help Darryl to make the farm more spooky!
Task1 : Get a Halloween Blue Brick from every 7th Hallowe'en Hook Bag when fishing with the Hallowe'en Hook.  Activity ends on 27 October

N.B.  EACH catch with the Hallowe'en Hook appears to be accompanied by a Lucky Bag that will contain either a material for the Jack O'Lantern Machine or a Blue Brick.  It is only every 7th Bag, however, that will contain the Brick.  This does make the business of completing the Jack O'Lantern Machine easier than it was last year when the catches only were accompanied randomly by a material and only specific items in any case at that!  It required endless fishing...

Hallowe'en Stage 2
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Only available until 19 October, eat at your Neighbours' Cooking Stands to receive a special Gift Bag that randomly may contain a Hallowe'en Cable.  Harvest Moon opened 9 of them without receiving a single one, but there's always tomorrow...

Note that there was a Kindle issue wherein no Cables were to be found in ANY of the special Bags. As of 19 October, that issue finally has been fixed.  You still can find the special bags at your Neighbours' stands.  Furthermore, if you are playing on the Kindle, you will see a special Balloon float across your screen today.  Open it to receive 3 Halloween Cables.  They did extend the event until 22 October now.

Time to Scare People Quest
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Time to scare people!

Fish 3 times with the Hallowe'en Hook
  Skip for 3 RC

Harvest 30 Pumpkins
   Skip for 30 RC

Place the Hallowe'en Stage on your Farm
  Skip for 10 RC

The Hallowe'en Stage is an unfinished Decoration that you can purchase in the Decorations section of the Market for 3000 Coins.  To complete it you will need the following:

  38 Halloween Bricks
  10 Pink Ropes
  8 Pink Light Bulbs
  4 Speakers

Note that these are items that will be available on a weekly basis, much like the Mini-Garden project.  Apart from the Bricks, available now, they actually may have different names when they become available.  I simply am describing what I see.

Finally, I expect that the Halloween Stage ultimately will give a Blue Cleaning Bag when cleaned as the Mini Garden does, but THAT is long in the future.

Reward: 1000 Coins, 100 XP

Darryl:  Oh, that is looking good already!  Let's finish this before Hallowe'en!

The first Event was to fish with the Halloween Hook.  Each catch came with a special Gift Bag and every 7th Bag contained a Blue Brick, the second material needed for the Stage.  As of 25 October, you still can find the Bricks in the Lucky Halloween Gift Bags when you fish with the special Halloween Hook.

Second Event

The second Event was to eat at Neighbours' Cooking Stands.  For a limited period, doing so gave a special Halloween Gift Bag.  These randomly contained Pink Ropes, the second Material required for the stage.  These no longer are available.  When you eat at a Cooking Stand, you now receive an ordinary Gift Bag.

Third Event:

The third Event is the current Spooky Halloween Mission.  Parts 1 through 8 each include a special Reward in the form of a Halloween Bulb, the third Material required to build the Stage.

Fourth  Event
xxxxxxxxxxxx

The fourth Event is the Weekly Task.  You must complete more than one of these to obtain all the Speakers, which are the final material needed to build the Stage.

The first task is:

Prepare 20 plates of Egg Custard in Pumpkin.  You should receive two Speakers for completing this task.  The next task, now live is to  prepare 15 Skeleton Fish Chips.  Completing this activity will give you the final 2 Speakers that you need to complete the Stage.

Each Egg Custard in Pumpkin requires 2 Pumpkins and 1 Egg.  Each Skeleton Fish Chips requires 1 Skeleton Fish and 1 Soft Dough.

Completed Halloween Stage
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The Halloween Stage, when complete, acts like the Bird Home Base in the sense that you can place your Skeleton Rockstar Frontman, your Skeleton Rockstar Diva, the Stereo Coffin and your Ghost Broom (if you managed to obtain it in the current Beauty Contest as a reward) on the Stage by first using the Move tool and then the jigsaw puzzle piece tool on the far right to set them on the Stage.  You should make certain that the individual items are registered before you place them on the Stage.  Furthermore, if you have not received 7 days' worth of Yellow Mystrons from your Diva, wait until that occurs before setting her on the Stage.

As with the Bird Home Base, you will receive more Charm Points if the items are placed on the Stage.  You will receive 2 extra Charm Points for placing the Skeleton Rockstar Frontman, 2 extra Charm Points for placing the Sksleton Rockstar Diva, 1 Point for the Stereo Coffin and 1 extra Charm Pont for placing the Ghost Broom.  A total of 6 extra Charm Points, therefore, if you place all four on the stage.

Charm Points
xxxxxxxxxxx

The items that are being offered in the sale are both Theme-related and imbued with Charm Points.

They are as follows:

Running Mummy: 18 Charm Points and 4 Theme Votes
  Gives Gold Cleaning Box

Witch Legs: 2 Charm Points and 2 Theme Votes
Gives Silver Cleaning Box, least valuable of all

Skeleton Rock Star Frontman: 6 Charm Points and 3 Theme Votes
  Gives Purple Cleaning Box

Stereo Coffin, 7 Charm Points, 2 Theme Votes
  Gives Gold Cleaning Box

Skeleton Rockstar Diva, 8 Charm Points, 5 Theme Votes
Gives 10 Yellow Mystrons for 7 Days, then Blue Gift Box

The nice thing about the Skeleton Rock Star Frontman is that he has a very small footprint, but is worth 6 Charm Points, even though he occupies less space than any other Decoration that has only 1 Charm Point.  The Witch Legs have a small footprint but are worth only 2 Charm Points.  The new Skeleton Rockstar Diva is both the most expensive and most valuable with a small footprint offering 8 Charm Points.

Please see my Halloween Farm Beauty Contest post for details on how the votes of the four Characters work.  You only will receive the Theme Votes if you have not yet reached the maximum points for Theme from that Character.  It probably is 20 for Characters with 80 Votes and 18 for Characters with 72 Votes.  In other words, Harvest Moon, having the maximum Votes for Theme even before this sale, will not increase the Votes of Felicia, Darryl and Dad by purchasing ANY of these items and placing them.  The farm will get the Charm Points but that applies only to global rating as the farm achieved the maximum of 20 and 18 Votes given for Charm from the Characters long ago...

I did confirm the 'ceiling' for theme decorations when Harvest Moon FDC placed both of the new Decorations and votes from the Characters did not increase at all.

Gallery Registration
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Remember that Gallery counts with two Characters, so register your items.

Witch Legs:
  4 Medals, 3 Super Fertiliser

Running Mummy
  8 Medals, 2 Rain

Jack O'Lantern Machine
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

This is a Machine that was offered last year as well.  It costs 1000 Coins and is unfinished when purchased in the Market.  It will be available only for 15 days.

To complete it, you will need:

300 Ghost Candles

150 Dracula Wings

50 Witch Cauldrons

Yes, a formidable task and one I do not look forward to repeating with my Rosewood Farm now.
These 'materials' are caught by using the Hallowe'en Hook when fishing, not by the individual items caught but by the new Hallowe'en Lucky Bag that accompanies each catch with the special Hook..  Each use of the Hallowe'en Hook requires 125 Bait.

Hallowe'en Hook Catches
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

With the Halloween Hook, you can catch the following:

Skull Anchor
Kraken
Humpback Anglefish
Ghost Jellyfish
Vampire Clam
Skeleton Fish
Skull Anchor

It appears that each catch now will be accompanied by a Lucky Bag.  Each 7th Bag should contain a Hallowe'en Brick for the stage.  This is a formidable project as well if you consider how much fishing is required to earn the Bricks.

Note that the Hallowe'en Lucky Bags contain both materials for the Jack O'Lantern Machine and the Bricks required for the stage.

For example, in opening 10 of them, I received: 1 Witch Cauldron, 4 Dracula Wings, 4 Ghost Candles and 1 Brick, I believe.  Note that you then must access your Gift Box and after opening all the Bags, find the Materials and add them to the Machine and Stage respectively.

Added Income
xxxxxxxxxxxx

Despite the extraordinary amount of labour required to build the Jack OLantern Machine and Halloween Stage, there are other advantages to the temporary Halloween Hook and its catches.  Once you have obtained the Lucky Bags from each catch, you will be free to sell the actual items caught and they are quite valuable.  It gives lower level players a wonderful opportunity to make enough Coins to purchase expansions and if the option has been unlocked, pay for access to the Island and its expansions.

Here are the values:

Skeleton Fish: 641 Coins
Humpback Anglerfish: 515 Coins
Skull Anchor: 1838 Coins
Kraken: 4236 Coins
Vampire Clam: 522 Coins
Ghost Jellyfish: 753 Coins

The numbers speak for themselves, but it is only just to have a good value on these fish, given the amount of bait required to catch them!  You will find all the Halloween catches at the very end of the last section of your Fishing Book.

When these Halloween Fish were introduced in the past, special temporary Recipes were released that used at least one of them in the form of the Skeleton Fish.  It will be interesting to see if the last Halloween Mission that begins on Friday will have these Recipes included in it.

Bait
xxxx

Bait is expensive and you will need an enormous amount of it for the Halloween Hook.  You can find Bait for sale sometimes in the Coin Mystery Shop.  You can receive it randomly in one of the Special Sheep Gift Bags when you clean one of the Special Sheep on a Neighbour's Farm.  You can receive 200 Bait as a bonus when you process the Opossum Shrimp in the  Seafood House.  For the most part, however, you will have to use items in trade for bait.  Here are some suggestions:

Caramel: 93 Bait  (This is a single ingredient item made in the Sugar Machine)
Venison Steak: 76 Bait (This is a single ingredient item produced by Deer)
Sunflower Bouquet: 88 Bait (A single ingredient item made in the Flower Packing machine)
Love Cake: 155 Bait  (All the Cakes made in the Cake Machine have decent trade values)
Steak Burger: 80 Bait (All the Burgers made in the Burger Machine have decent trade values)
Blueberry Candy: 88 Bait (All the Candy produced in the Candy Machine have decent values)

Cooking Wine: 328 Coins  (A favourite trade item for Bait for many farmers, including myself.)
Peach Cobbler: 953 Bait (This is one of the highest values but it is a labour intensive recipe with many Cooked Dishes as ingredients)

You will find that many Cooked Dishes have high bait value but in many cases, they are items that you will need in Quests or to make other Cooked Dishes.  For example, I never would convert Condensed Milk, Cake Flour, Soft Dough, Cottage Cheese, Sour Cream or some of the other Basics into Bait. It would be counterproductive in the long run.  The items I have suggested above make good trade items partly because they are not needed to produce other items and have, apart from the Peach Cobbler, few ingredients.

Theme Items in Market
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The current Halloween Farm Beauty Contest overlaps somewhat with these Events and some of the old items from previous years and quests now have been added to the market.  To wit:

Spooky Tree: 8 RC  (I do believe this is available always)

Bat House: 18 RC  (temporarily available, once the reward for a quest, steep price, but produces Bat Milk when Bats pollinate specific trees including the Sakura and Spooky Trees)

Pumpkin Tombstone: 10 RC, produces 6 Charm (temporarily available)  Limit 1

Halloween Fence: 5000 Coins  (temporarily available, Charm 1, no limit)  Unlocked at Level 26 unfortunately for low level farmers, jolly unfair, that

Theme Decorations and Values
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Pumpkin Fountain: Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 1 Vote each day for this.
Hallowe'en Fence: Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 1 Vote each day for this.
Pumpkin Light:  Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 2 Votes each day for this.
Flower Torch:  Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 1 Vote each day for this.
Ghost Broom, Reward of the 3rd Beauty Contest:  Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 2 Votes each day for this.  This will be the Decoration that is awarded for a specific number of Votes like the Backpack and Whale Decorations from previous Contests.  Every time you reach a specified total, you will receive rewards.  Most of them consist of Farm Aids and Purple Mystrons but somewhere in the middle of the list is a Decoration and at the very end, there is a special Avatar with RC Rewards.  The Ghost Broom gives 9 Charm Points.
Scarecrow: Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 1 Vote each day for this.
Strange Scarecrow: Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 1 Vote each day for this.
Spooky Tree: Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 2 Votes each day for this.
Bat House:  Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 1 Vote each day for this.
Pumpkin Tombstone:  Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 1 Vote each day for this.
Stereo Casket:  Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 2 Votes each day for this.
Straw Witch:  Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 2 Votes each day for this.
Running Mummy:  Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 4 Votes each day for this.
Witch Legs:  Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 2 Votes each day for this.
Jack O'Lantern Machine:  Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 3 Votes each day for this.
Pumpkin Tower, Reward for Month of October 2015: Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 1 Vote each day for this.
Skeleton Rockstar Diva:  Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 5 Votes each day for this.
Halloween Stage:  Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 3 more Votes each day for this when it finally is completed
Skeleton Rockstar Frontman:  Felicia, Darryl and Dad will give you 3 more votes each day for this.

Now, it is important to remember that 'theme-related Decorations only account for a quarter of the Votes given by Felicia, Darryl and Dad.  I believe that once you achieve the total that is the maximum those Characters can give to you for theme, you will not be able to earn any more Votes from them for THAT, irrespective of the number of Theme Decorations that you purchase and place. Bear this in mind when you are tempted to go mad in the upcoming sales.  I personally believe the total is 18 or 20 Votes, depending on the Character.  Dad only has 72 Votes to offer.  I therefore believe his Theme total might be two Votes lower...

Some of the Theme Decorations can be purchased using Yellow Mystrons.  These are the Pumpkin Fountain, Hallowe'en Fence and Flower Torch.  Each will cost 100 Yellow Mystrons.  They cannot be cleaned, by the way.

The Scarecrow was the only Theme Decoration that could be purchased in the ordinary Market for Coins until more items were added temporarily.  See the section on Theme Items above for a full list. The Spooky Tree costs 8 RC.    Some of the Decorations, including the Running Mummy and Witch Legs were offered in a special Hallowe'en Sale last year and are being offered again in sale parcels that include RC and trees.  These at present are the Running Mummy and the Witch Legs, for old items and three new  in the form of the Skeleton Rockstar Frontman, the Stereo Coffin and the Skeleton Rockstar Diva.

Halloween Time-Restricted Quest and Haunted House Collections Mission

All Hallows Eve, aka Hallowe'en and Family Farm Seaside
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

A number of new options have appeared for Hallowe'en, all of which will be covered in this post.  Among them are a new time-restricted Quest, a new Jack O'Lantern Machine, sppoky effects on your farm and a new Halloween Hook for fishing that is connected to the Jack O'Lantern Machine.  A list of the new Halloween Items that can be caught when fishing as well as the new Halloween Recipes has been added to my Fishing Page and my Kitchen Recipes Page respectively as well as being included below.

Hallowe'en evidently is considered the most popular festival of the year, surpassing even Christmas in some parts of the world.  It therefore is no surprise that Family Farm Seaside has devoted a considerable amount of energy to this festival.

Spooky Effects include a night sky and perpetual twilight effect on your farm as well as the addition of Hallowe'en decorations to ordinary Items such as Animals and specific buildings.  For example, I noticed that my Chicken Coop had been transformed into a 'spooky' Chicken Coop!  The Jam Machine has a new colour scheme of purple and orange with a bat motif on the side.  The land surrounding your Farm has changed as well into a sort of spooky wonderland, complete with graveyard, dead trees, glowing Jack O'Lanterns and candles.

The Hallowe'en Festival essentially is an ancient Celtic and Northern European Festival that occurred on a night when it was believed that the barrier between this world and the next disappeared or became 'thin' enough to allow the dead to pass through to the world of the living.  It was known as Samhain.  The Feast of Samhain was a festival that was celebrated by slaughtering all the animals that could not survive through the winter and cooking an enormous banquet of fresh meat before salting or otherwise preserving the remainder for use during the hard cold winter season.  Blood sacrifice definitely was an important part of most ancient festivals and it was believed that the dead could be lured to this world by the scent of fresh blood.

The dead both were feared and loved.  They had the gift of 'second sight' that allowed them to see the future and often impart valuable information to the living.  In the old Northern Scandinavian and Germanic traditions, individuals often would spend the entire night on a burial mound or inside a tomb to attempt to make contact with the dead for this purpose.  The old sagas and tales are filled with examples.

In Mexico, the feast of Hallowe'en is linked with the Day of the Dead which is quite similar to the old Northern European festival.  People visit the graveyards, decorating them and taking feasts to eat in communion with their beloved dead.  Memento mori are fashioned from clay or from dough in the form of skulls and other symbols of death.  Sweets, like fresh blood, are believed to be particularly attractive to spirits and thus the feast features special sweets.

As previously indicated, a new time-restricted Quest has appeared for Halloween.  As always, there are 11 days to complete if started immediately.  Unfortunately, this Mission appears during a period when the Cooking Stand requirements are extremely difficult to complete.  One therefore must decide how to allocate resources.  In a week of fishing, I have been unable to catch a single Scallop or Crayfish.  Having used all that remained in my Barn, I still cannot complete this stage of the Cooking Stand contest. Never mind... on to the new Mission!

Haunted House Collections
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Place a Haunted House on your Farm.  You will find it in the Market for 500 Coins.  Once placed, you will be able to collect Hallowe'en Bags randomly from the harvest of ANY Crop, Machine, Animal or Tree.

One each of the four ordinary prizes must be redeemed in order to unlock the final prize, which is a Pat House.  Like the Butterfly House, Bats will pollinate specific Trees, flying out from the Bat House to do so.  Unlike the bats in our world, they will perform their task both day and night!  The Bat House will produce Bat Milk, an ingredient needed in one of the new Recipes.

The prizes are:

Witch Broomstick
  50 total

You will need the Witch Broomstick to upgrade your Haunted House.  They cost 1 Halloween Bag each.

Halloween Fence
  5 total
The first Halloween Fence will cost 100 Halloween Bags.  The price will decrease as you continue to redeem these.  The 2nd will cost 75 Halloween Bags, the 3rd will cost 50 Halloween Bags, the fourth will cost 25 Halloween Bags.

Sack of Bait
  200 total
The first Sack of Bait will cost 1 Halloween Bag.  The price for these will increase as you redeem them.  The 2nd for example will cost 2 Halloween Bags.

Thunderstorm
  5 total
The first Thunderstorm will cost 100 Halloween Bags (?)  Actually, did not log this and am trying to recall... the price does increase on these, however, so it would have been more likely to have been 50 Halloween Bags. The second will cost 80 Halloween Bags.  The third costs 150 Halloween Bags.

Once upon a time, you needed only 150 of the Collections Prize to redeem the final prize.  Later, the price was increased to 250 of the Prizes.  Now, they have increased the price once again, making it 350 Halloween Bags to redeem the Bat House.  The Bat House is needed to complete the traditional Quest sequence as the Bat Milk it produces is used in one of the Recipes.  Placing the Bat House is another requirement in the Quest.

You will need Witch Proomsticks and Chandeliers to upgrade your Haunted House.  There is really no advantage to the upgrades until you reach Level 5, the final upgrade that will double the yield of Halloween Bags when you harvest items.  in other words, at Level 5, items randomly yield 2 Halloween Bags instead of 1.  The Witch Broomsticks are a prize that can be redeemed for 1 Halloween Bag each.  The Chandeliers can be requested from your Neighbours.

350 Halloween Bags is a very large number and my own advice, if you wish to speed the completion of this Quest, would be to spend RC to redeem one of each of the initial prizes and, in particular, the Halloween Fence and Thunderstorm.  That will unlock the Bat House and you then will be able to focus on obtaining the Halloween Bags needed to redeem this Item.  As always, you will need the Bat House in order to complete the traditional Quest sequence.  In fact, you will need to place it as one of the tasks in Halloween V.

In tandem with the Collections Mission, there is a traditional Quest sequence:

Jack O'Lantern Machine
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

To make matters more complicated, there is a new Machine in the Market that must be built using parts from special fish that you catch using a new special Hook.  This is the Jack O'Lantern Machine.  Buy it and place it, then go fishing.  Maker certain that you choose the Hallowe'en Hook or you will not catch any of these odd fish.  You will need 125 Bait to use the Halloween Hook.

You will need the following to complete the machine:

300 Ghost Candles
150 Dracula Wings
50 Witch Cauldrons

Although a special Notice about the Jack O'Lantern Machine will appear when you log into the game, there is no mention of the special Hook!  I went fishing as usual, wasting all my chances without realising that a different Hook was needed for this Quest.

It is not only the Jack O'Lantern that requires the use of the Halloween Hook but Kitchen Recipes that include the special Seafood Items that are caught when this Hook is used.

The special Fish are included in your Fishing Book and are:

Kraken
  Can yield 1 Witch Cauldron

Ghost Jellyfish
  Can yield 1 Ghost Candle

Humpback Anglerfish
  Can yield 2 Ghost Candles

Vampire Clam
  Can yield 1 Bat Wing
Used in Recipe for Spooky Pasta

Skeleton Fish
  Can yield 1 Bat Wing
Used in Recipe for Skeleton Fish Chips

Skull Anchor
  Can yield 1 Witch Cauldron

The parts needed  to build the Jack O'Lantern Machine are associated with specific Fish, but you may use all your fishing chances without netting a single part as their actual appearance is random.  For example, when I first caught a Skeleton Fish, I netted 1 Bat Wing and I have netted 1 Bat Wing with the catch of a Vampire Clam.  I netted two Ghost Candles with the Humpback Angler and 1 Ghost Candle with the Ghost Jellyfish.   I  netted the Witch Cauldron when I caught a Kraken but all the others yielded not a single part.  I have caught Vampire Clams without obtaining any Bat Wings as well as other special Seafood Items.  I have given the parts that can appear with each special Halloween Item in the list above.  As you can see, each special Item is linked to a specific part.

I would suggest that players fish as much as possible using the new Halloween Hook as both the Items themselves and the special Machine parts will prove useful.  The Halloween Quest includes a requirement to make the special new Recipes, so be prepared!

Furthermore, the need to make these Recipes extends beyond the current time-restricted Quest.  If you are participating in the Carnival Activities, you will find that the next task is to make 10 Plates of Spooky Pasta.  To do so, you will need to have a total of 20 Vampire Clams.

Strategies for Halloween Mission
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

As always, you should make the basic Recipes or have a good stock of the Cooked Dishes such as Soft Dough and Cake Flour on hand.  Coconut Milk is an ingredient in one of the special new Recipes as is Soft Dough.  You will need Cake Flour to make Pasta, an Ingredient in one of the new Halloween Recipes.  Pasta, along with two other Recipes was a special time-restricted Recipe last Halloween.  All three of those Recipes have been reintroduced.  If you make these items in advance, you can use your Power judiciously, making certain that you have sufficient when a task requires a soecific number of Cooked Dishes.

Note that if you are participating in the special cooking Activities to win Yellow Mystrons, the next one will be a requirement to make Spooky Pasta.

In Family Farm Seaside, the Items that are always in short supply in my game are OP and Power.  These can be obtained randomly in Cleaning Gift Bags, the Dedicated Farmer Bonus Bags.  You can purchase both in the Market as well.  50 OP costs 1 OP.  280 OP costs 5 RC. OP can be 'earned' in other ways by completing Achievements or Registering Items or as a reward for other special tasks.  It can be gained as a Daily Log In Reward as well.  Unlike Power and Fishing Tries, however, it is not given in any quantity on a regular basis and renewed automatically with the passage of time.

30 Power are given as a default and when used, replenish over time.  Fishing Tries likewise are restored with the passage of time.  If you are going to purchase any of these in the Market, therefore, the only one you should purchase perhaps is OP.

To speed the production of a Machine or Animal, you either can have multiple Machines or Animals working at the same time or you can use Batch Production.  Another method is to use the manual option to complete up to three harvests instantly.  Batch Production actually uses LESS OP, however, than the manual option.  If you are going to use OP at all, try to use it in Batch Production.  If you use the manual option, you will need 10 OP for each harvest and the maximum allowed always is three.  With Batch Production, you can set the Animal or Machine to produce the precise quantity needed.  It can be expensive but worthwhile if you need to complete a task in a specific amount of time.

You will need some Items in considerable quantity.  If you have been completing the Carnival Activities, you may have made 90 Grape Candies recently, requiring 90 Sugar.  This certainly depleted my stock!  Make certain that you have sufficient Sugar in your Barn for a number of different tasks in this Halloween Quest sequence.  Sugar is made from Cane in the Sugar Machine.  Make it in advance if you can.

Another item that can be prepared in advance is the Wheat Bread that will be needed to make 60 Cheese Burgers in the last step of the Quest.  Cheddar Cheese, the other component, can be requested as a Free Gift.  Many players like myself have a large stock saved in the Gift Box for these situations.

Warning
xxxxxxx

Remember always that the parts needed to upgrade the Haunted House, whether you redeem them with Halloween Bags or request them from Neighbours must be used FROM YOUR GIFT BOX.  Likewise, the special parts that are obtained randomly when fishing with the Halloween Hook will be found in the Gift Box and must be used from there.
