New Update with Wrap Machine, Icelandic Sheep, Poultry Care et alia

There is yet another new update, that includes a new Seaside Machine in the form of the Wrap Machine.  It can be found in the Machine section of the Shop for 20,000 Coins and must be built.
There is a new premium Animal that can be purchased for Seaside for 15 RC.    This is a work in progress.  New untimed Quests will be found at the end of this post.  They only appear if you have completed all untimed Quests from the past.  My Community has been very helpful, and my fabulous administrator of Family Farm Seaside Freyashawk, Kaye, has logged all the new untimed Quests.  You will find them at the bottom of this post.

Here is a link to the current timed Quest:

Darryl's Herbarium

There is a new page for all the Stove House Recipes.  You should find it as a tab above ANY post.  I intend to make a page for the Research Lab as well as it contains a wealth of detail.

As always, I am grateful to every farmer who sends votes to H.M. Freyashawk in the Farm Beauty Contest.  Only two days remain and the farm is unlikely to rank in the top 10 without significant votes from neighbours at this stage.  It is becoming increasingly difficult with all of the veteran farmers who have quit playing, either voluntarily or because they lost access to their farms in one of the many updates.

I have to confess that the combination of health issues and endless changes in the game have made me a little less enthusiastic about this work.  I always am very happy to hear from farmers who find this site useful, nonetheless, and will do my best to continue with updates.  My Freyashawk Community and my administrators of our Facebook Community do help as well, and I am grateful to them.

Wrap Machine
xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Costs 20,000 Coins

Build with the following:

10 Classic Wrap. (Request from Neighbours or pay 1 RC for each)
10 Wrap Machine Sign (Request from Neighbours or pay 1 RC for each)
2 Stovepipe (5 RC each)
2 Square Stove (5 RC each)

You can pay 40 RC therefore to complete it instantly.  At the moment, the MINIMUM to finish this item is 20 RC, as I cannot find the Stovepipe or Square Stove in any of the Shop departments.

The Wrap Machine produces:

Beef Wrap:
  Requires, Beef, Wheat Flour, Lettuce

Turkey Wrap:
  Requires Turkey, Wheat Flour, Lettuce

Veggie Wrap:
  Requires Tomato, Wheat Flour, Lettuce

Cheese Wrap:
  Requires Cheddar Cheese

Venison Wrap:

Mutton Wrap:
Requires Mutton (from Icelandic Sheep), Wheat Flour, Lettuce

Icelandic Sheep:
xxxxxxxxxxxxx

The Icelandic Sheep is a premium Animal found in the Market for 15 RC.  It produces Mutton, used in the new Wrap Machine.  It must be fed Timothy Grass, found in the Crop section of the Market for 333 Coins.

Canning Machine
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The Canning Machine is being offered in two ways.  One way gives you a 'package' that contains the actual unfinished machine with the four materials required to complete it, and a sort of bonus of 6 RC.

The other allows you to buy the unfinished Canning Machine in the Boat Ticket Shop for Boat Tickets, and you can buy two of the four materials required each day

The Canning Machine costs 100 Boat Tickets.
Canning Machine Pipe: 10 Boat Ticket (Limit one per day)
Stainless Steel : 10 Boat Ticket (Limit one per day)
At this point in time, you only can buy the other two materials for 1 RC each and you need 30 of each material.  In other words, it will take you at least a month to complete the Machine using Boat Tickets as well as RC... unless, like other boat items, they alternate Materials in the Market.

What is interesting about the Canning Machine is that, although it is an Island Machine, all products will be unlocked upon completion.  In other words, no Mastery is needed.

The products are:

Canned Pineapple
Canned Green Bean
Canned Sweet Corn
Canned Strawberry
Canned Passion Fruit
Canned Cherry
Canned Peach
Canned Apricot

Passion Fruit is another new Crop.  It costs 242 Coins and take 10 hours to mature.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Frankly, I do not know if this Wrap Machine and Canning Machine will be like the Salad Machine, a sort of extra item for players who need it all.

Surprise Tree
xxxxxxxxxxxx

There is a 'Surprise Tree' that is dropped by a gold blimp when you tap on it.  Beware where you tap if your farm is crowded.  It was dropped in the midst of my trees and very difficult to find.  You can tap on it, and then move it to the place where you wish to have it on your farm!

You can collect Magical Fragments from Crops, Trees, Animals and Machines but unlike previous Collection Missions of this sort, you simply 'get a better price when purchasing RC' by paying cash.  When you collect 100 Magical Fragments, you can purchase 24 RC for the same cost as you were offered when you had collected 50 Magical Fragments.  WARNING:  YOU CAN MAKE ONLY ONE PURCHASE!!!  Far better to wait until you collect 100 Fragments to obtain more RC for the same price.    You cannot collect Fragments beyond 100 and when you have made the RC purchase, the Tree sadly disappears.  I expect it will disappear automatically when the timer expires even if you made NO purchase.

Lighthouse
xxxxxxxxx

This is an improvement as one instantly can view all completed Quests and all Quests that have not been included yet.

New Untimed Missions
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

These only appear if you completed all existing untimed Missions.  I am not going to log them at the moment, but Community members began to do so, and my wonderful administrator Kaye has completed the entire Quest now, and will continue with other new untimed Quests for me.

Note that some farmers who have completed all the new Quests claim you will need the Wrap Machine and Icelandic Sheep for one of them.  This is NOT confirmed by myself or any of my Community or administrators but am noting it here in case it is true.

Darryl's Herbarium Quest and Satchel Collection Mission

Post complete.  If you do not see all tasks and information, refresh the page please.

A new 11 day Quest has been released in tandem with a Collection Mission.  The reward for the Collection Mission is the Aronia Tree, a new premium Tree, producing Chokeberries every 10 hours.

Note from Freyashawk:  This site is available to the general public and I am happy for any one who plays this game to use it.  What is objectionable and unethical, however, is for individuals who manage Facebook Groups to rip the information from my site without giving me credit for my work.  By all means, place a link to this site in your Facebook Group or even copy the information, but please credit Freyashawk when you do.  I spend hours still working on this site to keep it updated.  I am very happy that is is useful, but it makes me very sad when people evidently fail to understand that it would be no. more than common courtesy to credit me for the work I do.  Thanks to Anne, one of my wonderful administrators, for her help with early completion of the lists.

I do very much appreciate the votes in the Beauty Contest from farmers who use this site.  It is becoming increasingly difficult to rank in the top 10, but your votes are very much appreciated still!

Collection Mission
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

50 Blue Satchels from Wheat Flour
30 Red Satchels from Mayonnaise
10 Green Satchels from Jackfruit

Reward: Aronia Tree

50 Oats
50 Wheat
50 Lavender
50 (FDC) Carrots
50 Pumpkin (AW)
60 Cotton Balls (AW)
60 Barley (Island)

Batch Production List
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

40 Sugar
40 Rice Flour (FDC)
40 Ketchup
8 Maple Sugar
50 Duck Eggs
20 Chestnut Flour (Island)
60 Lavender Bouquet (AW)
60 Barley Flour (Island)

60 Cotton Cloth (Island) (AW)
8 Jackfruit Bread (Island) (AW)

Strategy Tips
xxxxxxxxxxx

The Aronia Tree, the Reward for completing the Collection Mission, produces only every 10 hours but remember that Watering Cans and Super Watering Cans always can be used on Seaside Trees.  The only Trees with which they will not interact are the various 'Wood' Trees on the Island.  The Aronia Tree produces Chokeberry.

For lower level players, try always to complete the Collection Mission even if you cannot complete the traditional Quest.  You should be able to find the Quest in the Lighthouse once it expires but you will NOT find the Collection Mission again.  Instead, the Reward item will be placed in the Market with an RC price attached to it.

Set your Monkey Boost to reduce OP.  The amount of OP needed for Batch Production can be enormous.  Reducing it can make it far easier to complete tasks.

You will need the Beef Burrito Recipe for the Stove House for one task.  A Reward for a Collection Mission originally, it now must be purchased from the Market for 9 RC.

For players who wish to complete the Quest quickly:  Do not cast a Net and do not collect all of your Pet Chests.   Tasks include fishing and Chest collection.   Fish 8 times with the Bone Fishhook.  Remember you can 'Miss' a catch or any number of catches deliberately and it will count without causing you to lose any of your 7 default tries.  You need to dig 14 Chests... fortunately the cost of skipping this one is lower than usual, a total of 4 RC if your Pets did their jobs before the Quest began.   You need to tend flowers in Botanic Garden 15 times as well using SPADES only.  Colourful Plumeria is the flower that needs tending most often, I believe.  There is a Botanic Garden Monkey Boost that may be useful at the very end of this Quest for this task alone,  but I still believe the OP Reduction Boost is more useful for the Quest in general.  What you can do is plant as many Colourful Plumeria as possible, if you really care about speed...  I will simply wait it out myself.  Even 1 Colourful Plumeria will allow tending again within a few minutes, so you can achieve the result with a single flower, if your other flowers require different tools and only need tending every few hours.    You do have more than 11 days to complete the Quest sequence.

(Above, a screenshot of a Level 30 Botanic Garden.  You can see that only Spades and Trimmers appear for Level 1 Flowers, but that they can appear randomly for Level 2 and Level 3 Flowers as well.  It is more likely to be given the other Tools for the higher levels of Flower.  Furthermore, the time between tending is far greater, even with Flower Monkey Boost, for the Level 2 and Level 3 Flowers.  The regular Level 1 Friendship Flowers such as Clam and Gallery Book require more time between tool use than the premium Friendship Flowers.)

Letter from the Heart to my fellow farmers from Freyashawk

First of all, I am not arrogant enough to think that every one who reads my posts about current Quests and other options in the game will have any desire to read my personal thoughts, so here are the links to the current Birthday Surprise Quest and the current Farm Beauty Contest:

Birthday Surprise Quest and Birthday Hat Collection Mission

Dessert Party Farm Beauty Contest

I do feel perhaps that developers should take an interest in some of what I write here, as it represents a growing trend among veteran farmers.

This post was prompted by the fact that our Community lost one of our beloved members today for the second time.  She is a wonderful, generous farmer and human being, but she has serious medical problems and has been finding the game more stressful than fun of late, more expensive than worth the cost.  She is not the only farmer to feel this way.  In fact, she is not simply quitting our Community.  She is thinking of quitting the game.

I was introduced to FunPlus through the original Family Farm game, played on laptop or PC through Facebook.  It was a very beautiful farming simulation game, and I enjoyed it immensely for a couple of years.  What occurred gradually, however, was a very determined decision on the part of the developers to expand the game, and it finally became unwieldy, far too massive for any casual enjoyment and indeed too expensive for farmers who could not be slaving on their farmers 24/7 to complete all the Quests that gave only SOME of the new animals or machines.  Spending real money became more and more urgent for those players who took the game and their farms seriously.  A competitive factor was introduced that, to me, made the game actually unpleasant.

Family Farm Seaside began as a relaxing alternative to the original.  Both the original Family Farm and Seaside have wonderful graphics and developers demonstrate remarkable creativity, BUT now in Seaside we are seeing the same desperate push towards greater spending and more and more competition between farmers.  Add to that a BURDEN to visit all neighbours (maximum 310) and it is a game that no longer is fun and relaxing for many.

Furthermore, as a game that is played on mobile devices, every new expansion, every new update brings a new set of problems in terms of memory and connections to the games own servers.  Veteran farmers who have achieved all expansions and upgrades often ironically are punished for their accomplishments because the data required by their farmers is greater than that needed for a low level farm.

Many of the farmers I know are older people or, whether old or young, have significant medical problems in their real lives.  The last thing they want or need is more stress.  They were drawn to Seaside for its beauty and the ability to create a little 'safe haven' where they could perform many tasks they once enjoyed in reality but now only could perform in a virtual setting.

At the same time, the game is becoming increasingly expensive for EVERY farmer.  I always believed that, if you enjoy a game, you should be willing to invest a little money in it, as I have seen too many wonderful games disappear simply because players were not willing to acknowledge any connection between their own investments and the need for the game firm to pay their developers and other expenses.  Games are advertised as 'free' and indeed can be played without investing real money, but it always amazes me when players see only their own cleverness in avoiding any investment... and then are shocked when the game no longer is available.

Still, there has to be some middle ground, some 'reasonable' amount of money that is requested or needed to enjoy all aspects of the game.  FunPlus recently has not shown any intention of limiting this, and is is becoming discouraging even to loyal veterans of the game.

New Farmers:  Do not expect to be able to do everything immediately!  I have been playing this game for six years and sometimes, I do not participate in all of the competitive activities.  Pace yourself.  Decide what you want most and try to make that your goal.

GIFT BOX REWARDS
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Gift Boxes:  Various activities have gift boxes of different colours as their rewards.  Some activities are available only during a specific time period.  Others can be accessed LATER.  In particular, the 11 day Quests that are linked to Collection Missions usually can be accessed from the Lighthouse once the time period expires and you can complete them from there.  What you will not find later, however, is the Collection Mission that is paired with the traditional Quest sequence.  I therefore urge farmers to complete the Collection Mission while it is active.  Although the premium items that are the Collection Mission Rewards will be found in the Market once the Quest expires, you will be forced to pay RC usually for them.  These Rewards include new premium Trees, Collectables and Stove House Recipes.  Try to complete the Collection Mission even if you cannot complete the traditional Quest.  (The traditional 16 part Quest is divided into four sections.  Complete a section if you do not wish to perform those tasks again.  In other words,  the Quest is divided as follows:  1-4, 5-8, 9-12, 13-16.  The final Reward for completing ALL tasks (through part 16) is a Seaside Decoration that gives a Purple Gift Box when cleaned.

The Cooking Stand Contests include many farm aid rewards, but only one Decoration Reward.  This Decoration gives a Gold Gift Box when cleaned.  I always believe that the Gold Gift Boxes are better than the Purple.  If you have a choice between completing an 11 day Quest or the Cooking Stand Contest, focus on the Cooking Stand Contest.

Community Challenges:  These can deplete a member's resources badly, especially if the member is a new farmer or at a low or medium level in the game.  Try to belong to a Community that will waive your allotment in any Challenge if you need to complete other goals.

Neighbour Visits:  Batch cleaning can be a godsend for players who have difficulty with the game in technical terms.  After some updates, I barely can move from Seaside to the Island or to the Community.  Do not expect too much of yourself or your neighbours.  If you have the Clean Tickets, use them by all means, even if the developers have not made this consistent and often your host will not see that you made a visit, nor that you cleaned any decorations.  Have as many decent cleanable Decorations on YOUR farm so that your neighbour has an incentive to visit.    Any neighbour who visits my farm should be able to go home with a Blue Gift Box or an Island Blue or Purple Gift Box as well as XP and Coins.  That has to be worth something surely!

I used to write guides for series like Harvest Moon and Rune Factory..  In those games, progress comes slowly and one has to look at the 'long game' for rewards.  I think the online mobile games encourage a philosophy of instant gratification, and that is stressful.  For example, registration of flowers in the Gallery can occur at any time, but the moment any new flower is introduced, game chat is filled with requests to borrow or trade one.  I try to keep one of each of the Friendship Flowers for other players to register, but I cannot place flowers immediately often.  If a player knows the flower exists and can be borrowed, that should be a viable alternative to instant registration.

SHIFT IN PHILOSOPHY

There have been a couple of very negative shifts in the perception of what is needed to play this game.

One is the 'need' to visit all neighbours.  The game on the one hand, offers batch cleaning tickets to its farmers and on the other hand, limits the benefit of such a visit to the visiting farmer.  More often than not, the host farmer cannot collect gift boxes from the farmers that used tickets, and indeed batch visits are not counted in the total of daily visitors.  This is very discouraging to farmers who have made their farms attractive to visitors by investing in premium decorations that give the best gift boxes.  Why should a batch visit not work to their advantage as well as that of the visitor?  This is poor programming, and instead of continuing to load the game with new options that neither the farmer's device nor the server of the game can handle properly, the developers should make certain that batch visits count for both parties!

This causes another negative shift in perspective where a farmer feels a terrible burden to visit ALL neighbours on a daily basis.   Once upon a time, farmers understood that a visit to another farm gave him or her many benefits, irrespective of whether or not that visit was reciprocated.  Now I see farmers apologising on a daily basis for not having the time to visit 300 neighbours and finally surrendering to the ungodly pressure by quitting the game completely,.

The other negative shift is the increasingly competitive nature of this game.  The Farm Beauty Contests have nothing whatsoever to do with beauty and indeed, I am convinced that cheating is necessary to reach a total of 45000 votes when you have a limit of 310 neighbours who can vote for you.  There are far too many Farm Beauty Contests, each of which offers a new Base and new premium Decorations.   A new contest is released mow hard on the heels of the one that preceded it.  One is given only a few days to draw breath.

The developers now do give higher values to some of the old premium decorations in these Contests but for the most part, a low level or fairly new farmer MUST buy all the new premium Decorations if they wish to be able to earn the 4000 vote Decoration Reward.  That should not be the case.  Every farmer should be able to earn 4000 votes in every contest, without being forced to beg for votes from neighbours.  They should be able to organise their own farms to receive those votes from the four Characters.  The developers should modify the rules and values to make this possible.

I only ask for votes because of my work on this site, and the connection of Freyashawk to the guide on this site.  There are two separate contests really.  One is the personal goal of reaching 4000 or 6000 votrs to obtain a new Decoration and then a new Avatar and a total of 3 RC, I believe.  The other is the goal of rank.  Rank is global.  I need the votes of my neighbours to rank in the Farm Beauty Contest.  It is becoming more and more difficult to do this, especially when there are players who appear to be able to rack up a total of 45,000 Votes somehow.  I am not competitive by nature.  If I stop updating this guide, I no longer will care about the rank of HM. Freyashawk in the Farm Beauty Contests but I do feel that, as long as this site is being updated, seeing HM. Freyashawk in the top 10 will remind farmers that the site exists and contains information about all Quests and new options.

The real point though is that a new or low level farmer cannot expect to be able to achieve everything, especially if he/she cannot invest real cash in the game.  It is possible for a low level farmer to obtain 4000 votes without any neighbour votes, but that probably would require outfitting 4 Pets and buying new premium Decorations, among other things.  If you cannot do that, simply wait for the next Contest!  The Decoration Rewards for completing 11 day Quests are being featured in the Farm Beauty Contests.  If you can complete those Quests, you are on the way to amassing a good collection of Theme Items.  The Bases are features as Theme items as well, so try to complete those.

There are other new options that I personally find unattractive such as the weekly Order Champion challenges.  This is simply designed to empty farmers' barns of all of their stored products so that they must produce constantly in order to keep abreast of all new Quests, Cooking Contests, Guest Orders, Order Board/Helicopter Orders, Resort shop orders and Coffee House demands.  This is not relaxing.  This is simply being a skullery maid on a 24 hour basis.

The Community option should be cooperative, not competitive, and yet, members of some communities are constantly quibbling about who gets to do what, and either are berated for doing too much or for doing too little.  When the option first was introduced, we had to create a system that would be practical and we were stricter than we are now.  At this point, we are a true Community, consisting of farmers who help one another, who understand when some one cannot do their allotment and who are willing to pick up whatever tasks are needed to ocmplete an assignment.  I would not want to belong to a Community that made my life more stressful.  We do not have 30 members at the moment but are not desperate to fill the slots, but if you want to belong to a Community that is based more on friendship and mutual support than making goals as quickly as possible, send me a message please.

What I wanted to say quite simply is PLAY THE GAME TO MAKE YOUR OWN LIFE LESS STRESSFUL.  Try to find that beauty and charm that existed originally and do not worry if you are not meeting the expectations of others.  Who put them in charge of your virtual reality?  There is more than enough pain and suffering in this life.  The reason I write a guide still is to try to help farmers have a less stressful experience, to attempt to give details that are needed about options both old and new on a single site so that farmers do not have to be hunting endlessly for answers.

This past year has been brutal for me, but I am damned if I am going to let a game that I love become an ordeal.  If you are my neighbour and you do not like me as a person, delete me please.  I feel that our Community is a supportive group of REAL people who help one another.  All of our neighbours should be that way, and indeed, there are a lot of fabulous men and women who play this game and who do try to help their neighbours.  Unfortunately, there are those who feel somehow entitled to tell others how to play, and who evidently instill a terrible sense of guilt in those who CANNOT or do not wish to play according to these invented standards and 'rules'.

I hope that farmers can believe they are entitled to a little escape from the rigours of their lives, and that they will ignore all attempts to burden them with the expectations of others.  Please do not think that any of you have to apologise for doing less than the maximum.  If you continue to play the game at all, you are an asset to it, and your presence reminds us of the journey we have made together in this virtual universe through the years.  Bless you all!

Birthday Surprise Quest and Birthday Hat Collection Mission

A new 11 day traditional Quest of 16 parts has been released in tandem with a Collection Mission.  The Reward for the Collection Mission is a Rose Swirl Birthday Cake Stove House Recipe.

QUEST COMPLETE WITH ALL LISTS AND TASKS.  IF YOU DO. NOT SEE IT ALL, REFRESH YOUR PAGE.

Note from Freyashawk: Although I do have Facebook Groups for this game, my site is freely available to all farmers, and never includes commercial advertising.  You are welcome to share my information with your own Facebook groups, but please make certain that you credit Freyashawk.  Failing to do so is unethical and unkind.  I work hard on this site, and if you do a search on almost any topic, you should be able to find information on it, going back almost 6 years.  I am grateful for the votes from farmers who thus show their appreciation of my work.  Unfortunately, HM. Freyashawk did not rank in the top 10.  It is a mystery to me how farms manage to rack up over 40,000 votes in any Farm Beauty Contest.  There is no way on earth I could do that.  There is a limit on the number of neighbours one can have and in theory, only neighbours can vote, apart from the 'Bet' which is random.  In any case, I am very grateful for the sustained support of many of my neighbours and friends in the Farm Beauty Contest, as well as their prayers and good wishes during very difficult times.

A new Farm Beauty Contest with a Sweets theme has been released as well.  Here is a link to the post I wrote about it:

One of the tasks requires that your pets dig 12 Chests. The cost to skip this is 12 RC.  I think it would be wise to turn off the auto-dig switch the night before any of these 11 day quests are due to begin.  Turn it on again only when the actual task becomes active in the Quest.

Do not cast.a net if you wish to finish Quest as quickly as possible as one task requires fishing 8 times with a Squid Hook

Dessert Party Farm Beauty Contest

Many farmers have asked me about the new Farm Beauty Contest.  As of Friday, 6 September, it is live,

The three new premium Decorations that can be stacked on the Candy House Base are:

Girl with Lollipop
Boy with Doughnut
Dessert Table

If they follow the same rules as previous contests, the three will be theme items that are worth multiple votes for theme from three out of four characters.  The values should be:

Girl with Lollipop: 3 votes each from 3 of four Characters, giving 9 votes per day for theme.

Boy with Doughnut: 2 votes each from 3 of four Characters, giving 6 votes per day for theme.

Dessert Table: 2 votes each from 3 of the four Characters, giving 6 votes per day for theme

These values only hold if maximum has not been reached for theme yet.

The new Candy House Base should be a theme item, possibly worth 3 votes from each of the three Characters who value theme, but ONLY IF IT IS COMPLETED!

As of now, the Candy House Base was given by Felicia in a Message, with 12 of the Green Candy, the first material needed to build it.  The second material, the Pink Window is available randomly when fishing with the Bone Hook.  You will need 20 of the Pink Windows.

It appears that the other two materials will be released gradually over the next week or two.  If you wish to be able to count the new Candy House Base when the Farm Beauty Contest begins, the minimum cost to complete it will be 32 RC.  This is based on fishing with the Bone Hook until you have amassed a total of 20 Pink Windows.   Bags containing ALL materials never are placed in the Market for NEW Bases but I expect there will be another Base that will be included in the Theme Book, and this is the Classroom Base.  On that basis, I expect to see a Bag in the Market that will cost 20 RC and contain all the materials needed for the old Classroom Base for players who do not have it or were unable to complete it.

The reason I am mentioning the Classroom Base is because the three old premium Decorations that are stackable on it are offered in special sales WITH the new Premium Decorations for the Candy House Base.  The old premium Decorations for the Classroom Base are:

Dancing Queen

Dancing King

Dancing Phonograph

Sadly, the old Classroom Base is being given only 1 Vote value for Theme.   Only a couple of the old premium Decorations that are stacked on it are worth more than 1 Vote for theme.  You can find this information now in the Theme List at the end of this post.

xxxx

Make certain that you have four Pets in full apparel and accessories OUTSIDE the Pet House and not digging in Treasure Land.  Make certain that your Fig and Pistachio Trees are on your Farm and not hidden away in the Tree Nursery.

Introduction
xxxxxxxxxx

This post is designed to allow you to gain as many Votes as possible from the four characters by maximising your own Farm to achieve the highest number of Votes in every Category.

The Farm Beauty Contest can be confusing and difficult for new player.  Often, they are unaware of their own ability to increase the Votes from the 4 Characters to the point where they can obtain the Reward Decoration without any votes from their Neighbours.  It requires a little planning.  This post was created to show you how to do precisely that.  Every aspect of the Farm Beauty Contest as well as the rules by which each Category operates is covered here.

Remember ALWAYS that the votes you receive from the Characters are based on your current 'Snapshot'.  If you change your farm to obtain more votes, always take a new photograph or Character votes will not change!  You do not need to take a photograph more than once, however, if you set up your farm for maximum Character votes at the very start.

One more point about the 'Snapshot'.  If you play on more than one device, you may see your Photograph only on the device you were using when you submitted it.  Do not fret about this!  It remains valid for the duration of the Contest, even if you do not see it on your other devices.

The quickest way to maximise theme votes, therefore, especially for a new farmer, is to pay cash for one of the new premium decorations.  They can be expensive, however, and for many farmers, earning the Reward Decoration for 4000 Votes in the Farm Beauty Contest is a long process that requires patience.  Do be aware, however, that the premium Decorations not only count for multiple votes, but give special Rewards often in the form of RC, Yellow or Blue Mystrons as well as giving the best Gift Box both to the host and to the visitor when cleaned.  Sometimes the judicious expenditure of cash in a 'free game' is worthwhile.

For a new farmer, the easiest way, however, to raise your Character vote total probably is by obtaining a couple of farm expansions and by raising your Landscape Point total to at least 2100.  I need to confirm the precise number of points now required to maximise your Landscape Point votes, but it really is worth the effort and you need not spend any premium cash to do this.  There are coin paths that will do the job.  See my section on Landscape Points below.

Knowing where you can capitalise on your own Character Votes is key to success.  For a farmer not to improve his/her farm for the Contest and then beg for votes from Neighbours ultimately is not the best strategy.... why not make the most of your own farm first?  At least then you can guarantee that you win the Reward decoration in EVERY Farm Beauty Contest as Landscape Points remain constant as do Farm Expansions.

Note from Freyashawk:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

It is becoming increasingly difficult to make the total needed to rank in the top 10.   I appreciate every vote.  Votes at the end of the 'Contest are critical for rank as well. Sadly, IN THE LAST VOTING PERIOD,  HM. Freyashawk went from number 6 to Number 13, thus losing a place in the top 10.  The farmers who were at the top were from Eastern Europe or a nation from the former Soviet Union.  They have an advantage at the very end, simply because of the difference in time zones.  As I have tried to explain, for 99% of farmers, votes over 6000 simply are wasted, which is why many farmers apply the Contest Avatar reward to their farms to show their neighbours they have reached that total.  For HM. Freyashawk, however, EVERY VOTE COUNTS.  One needs a total of at least 10,000 Votes to rank now.  I always hope that seeing my strategy guide name near the top may help farmers who need help with the game find my site.  I thank you for helping me with this goal.

I created this site 5 years ago shortly after the game first was released.  I maintain and update it with all new Quests and new options, as well as posts like this to help players with every aspect of the game.  I may not be the best farmer in the world, but if this site is useful to you, please vote for HM. Freyashawk in the Farm Beauty Contest.  Your vote for the farm is a vote of confidence for the site.  It is not a matter of personal ego but rather the desire to make players aware of the site.  When HM. Freyashawk places in the top ten in the Farm Beauty Contest, it reminds players that both this site and my Facebook groups for this game exist and, one hopes, can help them with any aspects of the game when needed.  Every vote counts for rank and I appreciate your votes greatly.  I know that it requires an effort on your part to vote for HM. Freyashawk each day.  I only hope that this post helps every farmer attain the total needed for the pretty Reward Decoration.

Note to new Farmers
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I believe that the Farm Beauty Contest still is unlocked at Level 30.  Even at that Level, it IS possible to maximise your Farm to obtain enough votes from the Characters to receive the Decoration Reward for having 4000 Votes.

You must start on the first day, however, with the best possible configuration, if you are at the lower levels and have not played long enough to have acquired many of the Theme items.

Even if you are not that concerned about your own results, you can register and help other farmers with your votes.  Even if you feel you cannot obtain a total of 4000 or 6000 votes, do your best to organise your farm for maximum votes to practice for future Contests.  If you are a low level farmer but are willing to spend a little money, purchase of the new theme decorations should make a big difference in theme totals, which could make all the difference in terms of reaching the goal of 4000 votes by the end of the contest.

COUNT YOUR TOTAL EACH DAY.  Most important are the Character Votes.  If you are reaching a total of 182,  you will obtain the Decoration.  (The required total used to be 200, so now it is easier to reach the necessary total of 4000 before the end of the Contest.)

Tips:  Where Landscape Points are concerned, try to find a Buddy who is at a high level who will send you paths as Gifts.  If you are able and willing to spend RC, the Macaron Path and Pebble Paths can boost Landscape Point totals faster with less effort, but if you can place enough of the other Paths and make certain that your Decorations are within their sphere of influence, you can reach the necessary total for maximum votes in that category.

The theme list is to be found in the little red book in the Farm Beauty Contest Menu.  I publish a list of all Theme items in my post with details as to where and how they can be obtained.  Some Theme items originally were released as Mission Rewards.  In many cases, these old Missions can be activated from the Lighthouse and you can obtain the Decoration without paying RC for it.  Others can be purchased directly from the Gallery using Blue or Yellow Mystrons.  Try to do it at the start, however whenever possible and make certain that, should you improve your farm's configuration, you take a new screenshot immediately!  You do not have to take more than one screenshot during the course of the contest UNLESS you obtain items that improve the Character vote totals.

Every day counts!  Count the total number of votes you receive from the four Characters at the end of the first day of the Contest and then see how you can improve this number if, multiplied by 20 (days), you do not have 4000 Votes as the projected total.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
OBTAINING THE REWARD DECORATION
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

You need a total of 4000 Votes by the end of the Contest to receive the significant reward which is the Decoration.  Almost any farmer should be able to maximise the Votes of the 4 Characters to obtain this even without a single vote from a Neighbour.  You basically need a total of 182 Votes per day, although the Contest is giving an extra voting period and that reduces the total needed per day.  (It used to be 200 votes per day.)

If you care about this, register your farm on the first day with maximum votes from the 4 Characters using the guidelines below.

For the Avatar, you need 273 votes per day, but with the recent changes in Character Votes, it is not impossible by any means to reach these totals from the Character votes alone.  If you are receiving 273 votes per day from the four Characters, you will obtain the Avatar by the end of the Contest.  If you have reached Level 90, you should be able to obtain 273 Votes per day from the Characters alone.  This was the case when 300 votes per day were needed, and 273 is a much lower number.

Note that for almost 99% of farmers, ANY VOTES ABOVE 6000 simply are wasted.  Many farmers therefore announce when they have reached 6000 and urge the friends who vote for them to vote for some one else at the end of the contest.  The only reason to vote for a Farmer who has reached 6000 Votes is to try to help that farmer to RANK in the Contest.  I always ask ONLY for votes for HM. Freyashawk throughout the Contest to try to have that farm rank in the top 10.  The name Freyashawk has been associated with the strategy guides I write for a couple of decades.  It always is my hope that a farmer will see the name in the top 10 and then look for a guide for the game if that farmer needs help with Seaside.

Apart from that, I have been maintaining this guide and site for 5 years now, without any financial benefit.  You may notice that I never allowed Google to place advertisements on my sites.  That means I receive NO benefit from Google.  It does make me feel as though my work is appreciated, however, when farmers take the time and energy to vote for HM. Freyashawk in the Farm Beauty Contests.

xxxxxxxxxxx
Pet Category
xxxxxxxxxxx

The total number of Votes that can be given by Grandma for Pets is 12.  Equipment (the collars, scarves and bow ties and so on) that you forge in the Factory each count for 1 Vote.  Apparel counts for the other Votes and it does not matter if it is premium Apparel or Temporary Apparel or even duplicate Apparel.  All will count equally.  A Buddy Pet does NOT count.  That was a glitch.

PETS MUST BE OUTSIDE THE PET HOUSE TO COUNT!

In other words, to gain 12 Votes from Grandma each day for the Pet Category, you need a total of 4 Pets, each wearing a piece of equipment and 2 pieces of apparel.

For players without premium accessories:  First make certain each has equipment.  Go to the Apparel Menu and find the 7 day hats and accessories for each pet that can be purchased for 100 TC each.  Equip four Pets each with a Hat and whatever other accessory that Pet can use and then let them loose outside.  Take your snapshot for the full 12 votes from Grandma!

For players with sufficient Country Club rank to purchase the Exclusive Pet Hat in the Exclusive Shop, this is a permanent Hat that can be worn by ANY Pet of either gender.  It can be very helpful.  As with any item in the Exclusive Shop, you can purchase only one per day.  It does cost 15 RC, but I believe that players who really are concerned about reaching their goals in the Farm Beauty Contest but do not have the necessary Pet Apparel definitely would benefit from this purchase.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
High Level Farms
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

This has changed a few times through the years but I only know for certain that Freyashawk at Level 117 received 15/18 votes for 'high level farm' from Dad.  At Level 120, HM. Freyashawk received 16/18 votes from Dad for 'high level farm'.   At Level 133, now receives 17/18 from Dad for 'high level'.  This was NOT the case in the earlier Farm Beauty Contests.  At Level 145, another player received 18/18 but I believe the actual level requirement for maximum votes in this category is lower.

xxxxxxxxxx
Basic Rules
xxxxxxxxxx

It is your current photograph of your Farm or 'snapshot' that determines the Votes from the 4 Characters in the game every day.  In previous Contests, a Theme decoration often would be counted if it had been placed on the Farm, even if it had not been registered yet.  I believe this still is true, although it is a good idea to register all theme items as quickly as possible as you do receive rewards for registration.

IF YOUR PHOTOGRAPH DISAPPEARS FROM THE CONTEST MENU, DO NOT FEEL YOU MUST REPLACE IT.  THIS IS SOMETHING THAT CAN OCCUR WITH ANY GAME UPDATE AND THEY ARE VERY FREQUENT NOW.  THE PHOTOGRAPH THAT YOU REGISTERED STILL COUNTS AND YOUR NEIGHBOURS CAN SEE IT!   Do not waste time nor energy reorganising your farm to maximise votes if the 'snapshot' that you registered GAVE you maximum votes.  It still exists and is used for vote totals.

Balance and variety always is the key in these contests.  You need a variety of Crops, Animals, Trees, Machines and Theme Decorations on your farm to maximise the votes from the 4 Characters.  If you design your Farm for maximum votes from the 4 Characters, you should not need ANY Votes from your Neighbours to obtain the Theme Decoration Reward that requires a total of 4000 Votes by the end of the Contest.

Duplicates never have counted where Crops, Trees, Animals, Machines and Decorations are concerned.  I doubt that has changed.  The only change really is that duplicates of Pet Equipment and Apparel DO count.

xxxxx
Crops
xxxxx

Have at least 16 different Crops on your Farm to obtain maximum Votes from Darryl for 'variety of Crops'.  You may need less but Crops are easy to plant.  They do not have to be mature when you take the photo to count.

xxxxx
Trees
xxxxx

Try to have 16 different types of Trees ON YOUR FARM when you take the photograph.  Trees in the Tree Nursery will not be counted.  Again, you may need fewer than 16 types but it does not hurt to be safe to obtain maximum votes from Grandma for 'enough Trees'.

xxxxxxx
Animals
xxxxxxx

Beehives and Butterfly Houses as well as the Bat House are considered Animals so every different TYPE of Beehive or Butterfly House counts but duplicates of any type of Animal do NOT Count. You should not need a total of 16 different types of Animal to obtain maximum votes from Felicia for Animals but again, if you have 16, use them.

I believe that the new Elephant may not be counted, but cannot confirm.

xxxxxxxx
Machines
xxxxxxxx

In Contests in the past, you only needed a total of 12 different machines to obtain maximum Votes from Dad for Machines but this may have changed.  Players claimed that the Salad Machine gave 2 Votes instead of 1, but never confirmed that.  In any case, duplicates do not count and if you can cram 16 onto your Farm before you take the photo, better to be safe than sorry.

It is possible that upgraders boost votes in the Machine category but cannot confirm this.  Again, better to be safe than sorry.

xxxxxxxxx
Expansion
xxxxxxxxx

Both Felicia and Dad give Votes for 'Big Farms'.  The good news is that you do not need many expansions on your original farm to obtain 16/16 from each of them.  A farmer who does not have even the 23 x 23 Expansion will obtain maximum 16/16 votes in this category!

xxxxxx
Theme
xxxxxx

Only Grandma does not vote for Theme, so you have Theme Votes from three out of four farm characters.  The Theme List always can be found in the little Red Book in the Farm Beauty Contest Menu.  I will include a list below as well with the price of each Decoration if you can purchase it and how to do so in each case.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Gallery Registration
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Register as many items as possible BEFORE you take your photograph to maximise this Category.

Both Darryl and Grandma give Votes for Gallery... furthermore, you obtain rewards from the Gallery when you register any item.

xxxxxxxxx
Landscape
xxxxxxxxx

'Beautiful Paths' is the term for your Landscape Point total.  As three of the four Characters vote for this Category, it is a very good idea to have Paths on your Farm and place as many Decorations as possible within their 'sphere of influence'.  I have covered the details of Paths and Landscaping elsewhere on this site.  The better the Path, the more points you receive when Decorations are placed next to it or near it.  The Macaron Path, Pebble Path and Snow Path each are worth 50 Landscape Points.  The Snow Path no longer is available but the other two can be purchased in the Paths Menu for 1 RC each.  The Wooden Path is worth 35 Landscape Points and costs 50000 Coins.  Next best is the Forest Path worth 25 Landscape Points with a price of 15000 Coins.  If you have Buddies, however, they can send Forest Paths and Stone and Flower Paths to you.  To send, go to the Special Gifts Buddy Menu.  You can send a Stone and Flower Path to a Buddy for 4000 Coins and a Forest Path for 12000 Coins.  You actually can send a Macaron Path to a Buddy for 1 RC.  There are Buddy Level requirements for sending some of the Special Gifts.

Remember that Landscape Point total is the total of the value of ALL the Paths PLUS the Decorations that are close enough to those Paths to boost Points.

In the past, you needed less than 2300 Landscape Points to achieve maximum... not certain what the current requirement is but here are some farmers who have less than that and their results in the current contest:

1059 Landscape Points: 16/24 Votes

1421 Landscape Points: 19/24 Votes

1484 Landscape Points: 20/24 Votes

1720 Landscape Points: 21/24 Votes

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
How to Maximise Landscape Points
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

First of all, you will not be able to move any Paths or perhaps even set any new Paths now if you have Pets roaming about your Farm.  You must place all of them in the Pet House before you can set new Paths or move existing Paths, including Water Paths as well as those on the land.

Remember that placement of Decorations and Bases is everything.  A Decoration or Base will give additional Landscape Points only if it is placed near a Path that has not used its maximum number of Points yet.  For example, the Macaron Path can give a boost of 50 Landscape Points when Decorations are placed close to it.  Once that amount is reached, however, piling more Decorations or Bases near it counts for nothing.  Use the Move Tool to hover over various spots to see how your Landscape Points will be affected.

xxxxxxxxxxx
Pet Category
xxxxxxxxxxx

This is one of the newer Categories and only Grandma votes for it.  To gain 12 Votes from Grandma each day for the Pet Category, you need a total of 4 Pets, each wearing a piece of equipment and 2 pieces of apparel.  A Buddy Pet on your Farm at the time you take your photograph will NOT count.  That was a temporary glitch.

You can purchase apparel for a temporary period in order to take a snapshot that will give you more Votes for this category.  It may be worth the effort.  12 votes per day from Grandma, multiplied by 20 is 240 Votes... I constantly see messages in game chat near the end of the Contest from a player who says he or she is 'short' 200 votes... maximise the Pet Category and you have them.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
High Level Farm
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Only Dad gives votes for a 'high level farm'.  At Level 117, HM. Freyashawk received only 11 Votes for this category in old contests  but at Level 120 with the new values received 16/18, and at Level 133, received 17/18.  At Level 135 and above, 18/18.

Here are some current results:

Level 40: 6/18 Votes
Level 47: 6/18 Votes
Level 48: 7/18 Votes
Level 63: 8/18
Level 76: 10/18 Votes
Level 79: 10/18 Votes

(Thanks to my neighbours who sent this information to me)

Theme Items
xxxxxxxxxxx

Recent Contests, including this one, differ from many of the early Contests  in that you can obtain multiple votes from the Characters by having Theme Decorations from the past, rather than being forced to buy the NEW premium Theme decorations to gain a high score from theme.  I am listing the values below.

N.B.  Go directly to the Gallery to see if a Decoration is available for purchase now.  I will add more information later about the Theme items that are available in the Lucky Wheel/Buddy Share Box.  I have listed those that can be found currently in the Wheel but had no luck whatsoever landing on any of them when I spun my Wheel so am collecting prices slowly.

Please be aware that often you can find premium decorations both in a current special sale offer on the top right of your screen AND in one of the Boutique Shops in your Market.  If you see the item in a special sale offer, however, you are best served by purchasing it in that way, as it usually is bundled with other items, including farm aids and/or Stove House Recipes and RC.  These sale offers expire at different times so the items I have listed below may no longer be available in a special sale offer in a day or two.

xxxxxxxxxxx
Lucky Wheel
xxxxxxxxxxx

It now is possible to obtain more Tokens for the Lucky Wheel through the rewards given by Darryl and his House on a daily basis.  Most of the Decorations in the Lucky Wheel originally were given as rewards for timed Quests or Calendar Rewards.  If they were given as Quest Rewards,  these Quests often still can be activated from the Lighthouse.

As far as the Wheel is concerned, if you land on the box with the Decoration, you get it free. Otherwise, there is an RC price attached to it.  When you place it in the Share Box, it will have the RC price.

In the current contest, you will find both Decorations from recent timed Quests and a few that originally were Calendar Rewards.  In the theme list below, I have included the price of any Decorations that currently are found in the Lucky Wheel.

Lucky Wheel or Special Sales?
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

If you are low on Theme votes from the Characters, you may have to choose between spending cash and spending RC to increase your Theme items.  RC can be earned in the game, but is often 'bundled' with premium Decorations sold in special sales offers.  You can purchase RC as well separately, and any such purchase will include a Gachapon for your Community.  On the whole, I prefer to choose one of the bundles that contains a new premium Decoration for a new Base, some RC and some Farm Aids.

A point to consider here is the type of gift box your chosen Decoration will give to you when cleaned by a neighbour or buddy.  The new premium Decorations usually give Blue Gift Boxes which are of higher value than the Purple Gift Boxes that are linked to Calendar Reward Decorations as well as Quest Reward Decorations.

I personally feel that the Gold Gift Boxes that are linked to the Cooking Contests are of higher value as well than the Purple Gift Boxes linked to Quest and Calendar Reward Decorations.  The 'silver' or 'white' Gift Box has the lowest value.  When I use the word 'value' here, it refers to the contents of the Gift Box.  Island Blue and Purple Gift Boxes probably are the best of all, as they include items like Electric Saws that are never found in Seaside Gift Boxes.  Thus, if you have the opportunity to purchase a premium Island Gift Box, it will serve you well.  Neighbours who use Batch Cleaning Tickets often have their order of visits set to start with Farms that have Decorations on the Island that give Blue and Purple Island Gift Boxes when cleaned.  Unfortunately, the game is very glitchy where rewards to the host farmer are concerned.  You may or may not receive the benefit from a neighbour's batch cleaning of your farm.  This is a problem we have been trying to address with Support since the batch cleaning option first was introduced.
