Felicia's Cooking Stand, Letter Decorations and Loyal Player Rewards

There are a couple of new options in Family Farm Seaside.  Personally,, I am not certain that they are positive.  Among them are new 'Letters' of different colours, new Loyal Player Gift Bags and finally, Felicia's Cooking Stand.  The Cooking Stand is connected with a new single Quest that appears to have no time limit.

The Cooking Stand is found in the Buildings section of the Market for 500 Coins.  There are two problems with it:  it, like the other Craft Buildings, such as the Kitchen, is absolutely ENORMOUS.  it takes up a lot of space and furthermore, cannot be sold or stored.  Very vexing to be certain.  I daresay that one will need it, however, and so I purchased it and placed it, making it virtually impossible now for me to have any Machines or Animals on my Farm...  If the developers EVER read this post, I beg them to offer us another farm expansion.  This is becoming ridiculous.  I have all the expansions and my Warehouse is upgraded to the point where a new upgrade would cost a veritable fortune.  I need an expansion and I daresay I am not the only farmer who feels this way.

The Cooking Stand Mission is a single one and is as follows:

Felicia's Cooking Stand I

Place a Cooking Stand on your Farm

Prepare 5 Honey Syrup

Reward: 100 Coins, 10 XP

Once you have placed the Cooking Stand, you need to fill it with cooked dishes that Neighbours are supposed to buy from you.  The business of purchasing Dishes from the Cooking Stand is very similar to that of cleaning Decorations.  If there are any Dishes to be purchased, you will see the icon of a Roast Turkey floating over the Cooking Stand on your Neighbour's Farm.  Now there will be an icon at the top of your screen as well that shows how many Dishes you have purchased.  You are allowed a total of 10 on any given day I believe in the same way that you can clean a total of 300 Decorations on any given day (chance should be so lucky!)

So far on this, the first day of the Cooking Stand option, I have found only three Neighbours with Dishes available for me to collect.  I have visited at least 40 of my Neighbours.  Sadly, I have found only 2 Decorations to clean as well.  Again, if the developers were to offer another Expansion for our Farms, it would allow more Decorations to be placed!

If any Neighbours visit my Farm, they should find plenty of Cleanable Decorations as well as Cooked Dishes!  I do place as many cleanable Decorations on my Farm as possible although I do not have the space to include all of them.

As each Dish displayed in your Cooking Stand is sold, you will be able to replace it with another.   The Cooked Dish Gift Bags appear to include the same sort of items that the Cleaning Gift Bags have: sometimes you will receive OP or Power, but mainly you will receive Coins.   Recently, however, the developers have made it possible for these Gift Bags to contain multiple Rewards.

If no Neighbours purchase your Dishes, you can purchase them yourself for 1 RC each.  The game operates in 'Rounds'.  Round 1 features four different Dishes.  The Dishes that you can set out for sale in Round 1 are Cheese Salad., Light Muffin, Spicy Fish and Chocolate Pave.   You can set out a total of six of each of these.   If you have these Dishes in your Barn, you can place them immediately.  If not, you need to make them before you can place them.   Each one when sold will give you 1 Red Mystron.   These are added to make the Player eligible for Rewards in the Bingo game evidently.

Meanwhile, Yellow Mystrons are used to purchase the green hedge Letters that are decorations to be placed on your farm.  I do not see any option to purchase Yellow Mystron and am not certain how to obtain more than the initial 15 I had.   I have no idea where the Letters will go on MY Farm!  I am not quite certain what effect, if any, the Letters have.  I do know that they are connected somehow to the Japanese Tanabata Festival as you can write Messages to the Cowherd of the Weaver Girl if you wish or to any of your Neighbours.

Meanwhile, the entire Cooking Stand business appears to be a Bingo Game of sorts.  As you sell Dishes, you will unlock new Dishes and there is a graph that is like a Bingo Card where you need a full row filled in order to earn a Reward or Prize.  More about this as I investigate further.  The actual 'card' has the following Rewards:

Vertical Rewards:  100 Green Mystron, 50 Fertiliser, 6 Power, 1 RC
Horizontal Rewards: 25 Super Fertiliser, 25 Watering Cans, 150 OP, Thunderstorn
in the corner, where Horizontal and Vertical intersect, there is a Mini-Beach Decoration.

There is a countdown for this which is a total of 7 Weeks.  I am not certain what will happen to the Cooking Stand after that period expires.  Perhaps a new Card will be issued... who knows?

Tanabata Festival Time-Restricted Quests

The Tanabata Festival Missions
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

As usual, there are two different elements to the Tanabata Festival.  The first is a Collections Mission in the form of a Shaved Ice Stand, a special item that can be purchased in the Market for 500 Coins.  Place it on your Farm and then begin to collect FEstival Fans randomly from any Crop, Tree, Animal or Machine.

Shaved Ice Stand:  Collect Festival Fans from all kinds of crops, trees, animals and machines!

Can redeem the following with Festival Fans:

Festival Lantern
  Total: 50
Require 1 Festival Fan each, need these to upgrade your Shaved Ice Stall

Bamboo Decoration
  Total: 5
The first costs 100 Fans and is a Decoration that is needed for the Tanabata Festival Quest.  The second costs 75 Fans, the third costs 50 Fans, the fourth 25 Fans and I believe the fifth and final Bamboo Decoration cost 15 Fans.  (Did not log it sadly!)

Sack of Bait  ( Each Sack contains 10 Bait)
  Total: 200
The first costs 1 Fan, and the cost increases with each redemption.  The cost essentially doubles until you reach the cost of 50 Fans.

Power
  Total: 50
The first costs 1 Fan, and the cost increases with each redemption.  From 1 Fan to 2 Fans, then 4 Fans, then 8 Fans, 16 Fans, doubling basically until the cost reaches 50 Fans.  It is rather expensive to redeem a single Power for 50 Fans, but what else will you do with your Fans at this point?

Redeem one of each of these prizes to unlock the final Prize, which is a Syrup Dispenser
The Syrup Dispenser requires 250 Fans.  It produces a random quantity of Syrup, from 3 to 5 Syrups every four hours.

As is always the case, you can upgrade the Shaved Ice Stand.  At Level 5, you will receive 2 Festival Fans randomly from any Crop, Tree, Animal or Machine.

The other element in the Festival is a traditional Quest sequence.  Note that you will need both a Bamboo Decoration, one of the Prizes that can be redeemed with Festival Fans as well as the final Reward in the form of the Syrup Dispenser, in order to complete the Tanabata Festival Quest sequence.

Strategies for Mission
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The traditional Quest sequence is very much a Kitchen-oriented Quest.  It is a very good idea to make as many basic Recipes as possible in advance.  In this case,  Batter, Cake Flour and Soft Dough are particularly useful.  Nowadays, the more Cleanable Decorations that you have on your Farm, the better, as extra OP and Power can be found in the Gift Boxes.  As there are so many Cooked Dishes involved in the traditional Quest sequence, you will need extra Power if you do not wish to pay RC for more or wait for your supply to be replenished naturally over the course of time.

As for other Items, if you can make certain that you have sufficient Wheat Bread and Beef for the Steak Burgers as well as Chardonnay for the Champagne, you will give yourself an advantage.  Do not sell the Recipes made in earlier parts of the sequence or the Cabbage harvested for one of the early tasks.  You will find that these are needed later in the sequence.

As is usually the case, you will need some of the Rewards from the Collections Mission in order to complete the traditional Tanabata Quest sequence.  The Bamboo Decoration that can be redeeemed for 100 Festival Fans is needed for Tanabata Festival IV.  You will need a total of 8 Syrup from the Syrup Dispenser that is the final Reward redeemable for 250 Fans after unlocking it by redeeming one of each of the lesser prizes.  Six Syrup are needed for Tanabata Festival VI for the Shaved Ice Recipe and a further two Syrup to complete an order for 8 Festival Food in Tanabata Festival VIII.

If you wish to skip any tasks or take any shortcuts, you are better advised to purchase 8 Syrup rather than spending 6 RP to skip the task of making 6 Shaved Ice in Tanabata Festival VI.  You should have plenty of time to complete both the Collections Mission to redeem the final prize of the Syrup Dispenser and to complete the Tanabata Festival Quest sequence but if you are the sort of player who prefers to complete Quests/Missions as quickly as possible, spending a total of 8 RC on Syrup probably is the best solution.  You cannot purchase the Syrup Dispenser in the Market at this point, so you should continue to collect Fans until you have the necessary 250 to redeem the Syrup Dispenser, whether or not you do so before you complete the traditional Quest sequence.

Note as well that the Syrup Dispenser only produces Syrup every 4 Hours.  Even if you do redeem it by the time you reach Tanabata Festival VI, you will have to wait for it to produce.  It cannot be made to produce faster by using OP in the way that you can speed ordinary Machines.  It is not really a Machine but is rather considered a Collectable like the Herb Garden or the Spice Rack.

It always is a good idea to upgrade your special building to Level 5 in any Collections Mission if you intend to obtain all the prizes.  You will find that the acquisition of 250 Fans is far easier once you are able to collect two Fans instead of one randomly from any Crop, Tree, Animal or Machine.  For some reason, I found this Collections Mission very slow until my Shaved Ice Stand was fully upgraded.  I do not know how long it would have taken to collect 250 Fans if I were not able to double the yield.

The Legend of Tanabata
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The Tanabata Festival is an ancient stellar festival, based on a tale about the deities Orihime and Hikoboshi, represented by the stars Altair and Vega.  They are separated throughout the year by the Milky Way and meet only briefly on the seventh day of  the seventh lunar month of the year.

The Tanabata is based  partly on a popular tale about the Weaving Princess and the Cowherd.  Orihime, the Weaving Princess was the daughter of the Sky King, Tentei.    She wove beautiful clothing by the banks of the Amanogawa (Heavenly River).    Her father loved her weaving and she therefore worked constantly to please him but was sad because she never had time to meet any one.  Her father arranged a marriage with a cowherd named Hikoboshi who lived on the other side of the Heavenly River.  They fell in love at once and married but afterwards, Orhime neglected her weaving and Hikoboshi allowed his cows to stray all over heaven.  Furious, the Sky King separated the two lovers and forbade them to meet.

Orihime was disconsolate and begged her father to relent.  He agreed then to allow them to meet once each year, but without a bridge to cross the Heavenly River, this meeting was impossible.  The magpies were moved by the plight of the lovers and promised to create a bridge with their wings.  It is said, however, that if it rains on Tanabata, the magpies cannot fly to the river to make the bridge and the two must wait another year to meet...

Note that weaving is associated with a Goddess or indeed the Great Goddess in many ancient cultures.  Prowess in weaving defined many heroines in old tales.  Witness the Greek tale of the motral weaver Arachne who challenged the goddess Athena and was transformed into a spider for her presumption.  Another tale that features weaving is that of the loyal wife of Odysseus or Ulysees who kept her many suitors at arm's length by promising to choose a husband when her tapestry was complete.  Each day she worked on the loom and each night, she took apart all her work.

In the Northern traditions, weaving is the work of the Norns or Fate.   Weaving always has been associated with destiny, time and strategy.  The Japanese Festival of Tanabata was derived from an ancient Chinese Festival known as the 'Festival to Plead for Skills'.  Children would wish for better skill in handwriting, sewing, weaving and other crafts, writing their wishes on small pieces of paper.  In the Edo period, dew that had fallen upon taro leaves was used in making the ink with which the wishes were written.  As with many old festivals, Tanabata incorporates a number of different ancient traditions but the tale of the Heavenly Weaver and Cowherd is one that endures.

Strategies and Tips
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Since the addition of the Kitchen to the game, most Missions include Cooked Dishes and the Ramadan mission is no exception.  In fact, it makes sense as Ramadhan is very much associated with the wonderful feasts in the form of 'Iftar' that mark the end of each day's fasting after sundown.

In Seaside, you must have Power in order to use your Kitchen.  The default amount of Power is 30 and each Dish requires 1 Power.  In many cases, the Dishes that are required in Missions include those for which the Ingredients are themselves Cooked Dishes.  You therefore sometimes can need 4 or 5 Powers instead of 1 Power to make a single Dish.

Cooked Dishes tend to be in sequences or groups of three.  The third Dish usually has the first two as its Ingredients.  For example, in the case of Spinach Dumplings, one of the new Recipes released in conjunction with the Ramadan Missions, the Ingredients are two Cooked Dishes in the form of Spinach Salad and Soft Dough, although only one of these, the Spinach Salad, is in the 'group of three'.  Soft Dough is one of the 'staples' used in a large number of Recipes in the Kitchen, however, and can be made in advance of any Mission, as you can expect to find it as one of the Ingredients you will need on a regular basis, whether for an ordinary Level-based Mission, a Time-Restricted Mission or for completion of a Daily Order.  As I have mentioned in the context of strategies for other Time-Restricted Mission, I always make as much Cake Flour, Batter and Soft Dough as possible when I have no requirements to satisfy and then store them for future use.  The fact that I had over 100 Soft Dough in my Barn before the start of the Ramadan Mission gave me a great advantage in terms of the tasks that involved Cooked Dishes, particularly as two of the new Recipes used Soft Dough as an Ingredient.

Recently, some of the Decorations in Seaside have been designated as 'cleanable' which means that, when they are placed on your Farm, any Neighbour who visits can 'clean' them with a virtual brush to obtain a Reward.  Originally the Reward was a single item in a 'Gift Bag'.  Now, however, the bag has been replaced with a little hat box and up to three items randomly can be found when the box is opened.  One of the items one can obtain from a cleaning Gift Bag or Box is 1 Power.  Others include OP and Coins.  Both Power and OP are extremely useful for Time-Restricted Quests as OP allows one to place an Animal or Machine on Automation and Power can be added to the default number of 30 to allow a player to make more Dishes at any given point in time.  In the final Quest in the Ramadan sequence, one must make a total of 40 Dishes,   All of these have Cooked Dishes as Ingredients which means that the MINIMUM amount of Power you need to complete this task is 40 but the maximum could be double that if you did not prepare in advance.

You are not required to place Cleanable Decorations on your Farm but every Decoration that is cleaned on any given day gives both the Neighbour who cleans it and the owner of the Decoration a Gift Box.  I usually do not open mine until a new Time-Restricte Mission appears.  Then I open the Gift Boxes I have stored.  At the start of the Ramadan Mission, I was able to gather 80 Power from all the Cleaning Gift Boxes and Bags I had collected mainly from Neighbours' visits to MY Farm.  Often when I visit other Farms, there are no Cleanable Decorations, either because the Farmer has not placed them or because they have been cleaned by some one else.  In any event, if you are a Farmer who does not understand why other Farmers use valuable space for Decorations, the Rewards are the reason!  I personally find it a little awkward to have Christmas Decorations on my Farm in the middle of Summer but I have so many Decorations now that I can fill my Farm without using any of them.  Many of the final Rewards for Time-Restricted Missions, including the Tower of Arab that is the final Reward for the Ramadan Mission, are 'cleanable'.

You need to prepare 20 Spinach Salad  in Part IV.  Do not sell these as you will need them as one of the Ingredients for the 20 Spinach Dumplings required in Part VIII.  Fruit Salad is one of the Ingredients in Pomegranate Fruit Salad.  In fact, for each Pomegranate Fruit Salad you make, you need 2 Fruit Salads.  Make these in advance if possible.  Many of the tasks do not involve cooking, so when you reach one of THOSE tasks in the Mission, use your 30 Power to make Fruit Salad or Soft Dough.

The 10 Arabic Kabsa in Ramadan II are an Ingredient in the Stuffed Turkey in Ramadan VIII.  In fact, Aarbic Kabsa is made with Rice and Soft Dough, so here is another Dish that requires Soft Dough!   Moreover, Stuffed Turkey is the third and final Dish in a group of three and to make it, you need the first two Dishes in the group for the Ingredients.  As you will need to make 20 Stuffed Turkey, therefore, you will need 20 Arabic Kabsa (10 more than the number required for Ramadan II) and 20 Roast Turkey.  The Ingredients for Roast Turkey are not made in the Kitchen but there is no harm in making that in advance either.  You will need 20 Turkey (produced by the Turkey) and 20 Ketchup made in the Sauce Machine.

You do have plenty of time to complete this Mission, but some Players like to complete Missions as quickly as possible.  I am included in that number.  I would rather complete any Time-Restricted Mission as early as possible than to fret about running out of time.  It is an additional challenge as well.

History and Significance of Ramadan
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The Islamic Calendar is a Lunar Calendar which means that any Festival, including Ramadan, will fall at a different time each year.  As the years pass, Ramadan will be celebrated in every season.    Ramadan begins with the sighting of the crescent moon or Hilal and is celebrated for a full lunar month.  The basis of Ramadan is purification through fasting and charitable acts.

During the month of Ramadan, all Muslims (with some exceptions for health reasons and difficulties caused by travel) must fast from sunrise to sunset.  Fasting traiditionally is broken first with dates and then with a feast known as Iftar.  During the month of Ramadan, Muslims tend to gather in the mosques to celebrate the breaking of the fast and to eat communally after sunset.  The reading of the Holy Qur'an is another activity that is characteristic of Ramadan.  Many Muslims make vows to read the entire Qur'an during the course of the month.

Fasting or 'Sawm'  is one of the five 'Pillars of Islam'.  It is not merely the act of abstaining from food and drink but from physical gratification of other sorts as well.  During the month of Ramadan, fasting is intended to bring the worshipper closer to God.  Acts of charity are as much a part of Ramadan as fasting.  Giving to the poor in very concrete ways, such as inviting poorer families or individuals to dinner is part of the Ramadan observance.  During the course of each day, as one abstains from food and drink, one is reminded constantly of the privations of the less fortunate.

Non-Muslims sometimes perceive Ramadan as a rather harsh observance because they do not comprehend the emotions that are associated with the fast.  If you speak to Muslims about the fast, however, you will find that it is an incredible experience wherein every moment of the day is one wherein one is reminded of the Creator and His bounty.  Every time one thinks of food or drink and then abstains, one dedicates oneself anew to God.  The date that breaks the fast at sunset moreover is appreciated far more than food eaten at any other time.  Iftar is more significant for the fasting that precedes it.  People join together to celebrate the end of the fast each night and their ability to withstand temptation during the day.

The end of Ramadan is celebrated in the Eid al Fitr.  Special prayers mark the end of Ramadhan.   Gifts are given and one visits friends and family during the Eid.

May all those who observe the fast find closeness to Allah SWT and may this Ramadhan be a blessed one.  May the poor find aid and may the oppressed find liberation from that oppression.
