Penny's Apprentice Quest, Potion Collection Mission and Trick or Treat Activity

(Above, three REAL magic wands.  The top is made of sterling silver, with light and dark crystals at either end, moonstone and lapis.  The middle and bottom are two sides of a Runestick.  One side features the Futhark Rune Alphabet and the other a series of magical spells, with bindrunes.   Below is another wand made by the same practitioner as the top one, but this is of rosewood with light and dark crystals, moonstone and lapis.  The artist wove sterling threads into patterns in a very beautiful fashion.  It dates from the mid 1980s.)

A new 11 day Quest has been released in tandem with a Collection Mission at the same time as a new Activity Stage Activity called 'Trick or Treat'.    The reward for the Collection Mission is a Magical Jello Tree.

Many farmers are having trouble with their farms due to the Ghosts that haunt their farms.   It can produce any overload of activity.  Some farmers have complained about an inability to use their Pets to open Chests for example.   If you cannot perform all actions on your farm, try to clear your cache first.  If you still have trouble, make the Ghosts invisible by toggling the switch at the top right of the 'Trick or Treat' Menu screen.  You still will be able to fill their Orders directly from the Menu.  More details about the Menu screen below.

POST NOW COMPLETE

The Penny's Apprentice Quest is below the 'Trick or Treat' Activity section of this post.

Note from Freyashawk:  If you appreciate my work, please consider voting for H.M. Freyashawk.  I have no hope of ranking in the top 10 without your help.  Today, I used a tremendous number of Farm Aids and RC to be able to complete both the Quest and the Activity Stage to be able to provide information about both.  I do not make any money with my site.  I do it to help other farmers.  It does make a difference when my neighbours vote for me to show that my efforts are appreciated, however.

Trick or Treat Activity Stage Activity
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxzxxxxxxxxx

Why they had to release this at the same time as a new timed Quest is beyond me.  Essentially, however, this is an Activity that can require a large number of resources and even some RC.

There are two new Crops that are used for this, a new RC Tree as follows:

Ghost Mushroom Crop:
Oreo Crop
Wafer Tree: 8 RC

There are a number of Kitchen Recipes that are demanded in Ghost Orders as well as an Oreo Cake.

You will see ghosts of various types wandering about the farm.  Tap on a Ghost to see its requirements.  It will require two items in different quantities.  The Oreo Cake, by the way, is made in the Cake Machine.  Other cooked dishes that use the special Crops are made in the Kitchen.  You must fill an order to receive the 'Treats'.  Look at the photo below.  There are two different orders, and you can fill both, I believe.  The first is for 30 Ghost Mushrooms and 5 Wafer Graveyards.  The second is for 60 Ghost Mushrooms and 10 Wafer Graveyards.  Each counts for 12 Treats, however, and I think the same Orders remain even after filled to be filled again, unless you actively send the Ghost away.  I received 12 Treats for filling one Order.  When I tapped on Trick for 1 RC, I received 12 Treats and the Ghost disappeared.  When the Ghosts vanish, you have to find new ones on your farm, and tap on them to invite them to display orders.  It is all very vexing.  I do have the final Reward, however, which you can see in my pond, in back of the Geese.

I felt it was useful to add the Menu for the Activity here.  It is kind of sad that they have chosen the old Collection Mission system without giving us a new Hallowe'en themed building but rather chosen to launch it from the stage.  Note that you must either purchase or trade Treats for one of each of the Rewards to unlock the final Reward that is the only NEW item offered.  The final Reward, once unlocked, can be purchased for 25 RC or 1000 Treats.  It is a Devil Duck Pond.  Remember that this cannot be placed on land, but must be placed on water.  You can see one on H.M. Freyashawk.  It consumes Ghost Mushrooms and produces Century Eggs.

You can see the prizes in the screenshot above.  The Vampire's Castle is an Island Decoration, so may be more worthwhile for many farmers who do not have one than the Halloween Clock, a Purple Gift Box decoration for Seaside that can be stacked on the old Halloween Stage.  The Halloween Clock was the reward for a 'Rush Activity'  in 2017.  Sadly they have not included it as a theme decoration for this Farm Beauty Contest.

There are three new Recipes that are linked to the Penny's Apprentice Quest.  Some of the other Recipes are linked to the Trick or Treat Activity Stage Activity.

Tap on any Ghost first to invite it to your farm, then tap on it to see its Orders.  As you invite them, they will be added to the main Trick or Treat Menu.

You can have a total of five ghosts on your farm at any time.  Each has two separate orders.   The smaller order gives 12 Treats.  The larger order gives 25 Treats.  The Ghost disappears after you fill one of the two orders.

See the screenshot below:

Above is a photo of my farm when five ghosts are on it.  If you look at the top, you will see five ghosts.  Tap on each to see its orders.  To the right of these is a toggle switch.  It is currently on.  Move it to the right and all of the ghosts wandering on your paths will vanish.  You will be able to access their orders still from this Menu.

Orders are:

30 Ghost Mushrooms, 5 Wafer Graveyard
60 Ghost Mushrooms, 10 Wafer Graveyard

30 Oreo Cake, 5 Cream of Ghost Mushroom Soup
60 Oreo Cake, 10 Cream of Ghost Mushroom Soup

30 Oreo Cake, 5 Snail Burger
60 Oreo Cake, 10 Snail Burger

30 Oreo Cake, 5 Wafer Graveyard
60 Oreo Cake, 10 Wafer Graveyard

30 Pumpkin Sauce, 5 Spider Cupcake
60 Pumpkin Sauce, 10 Spider Cupcake

6 Wafers, 5 Strawberry Ghosts
12 Wafers, 10 Strawberry Ghosts

Note the following:

Oreo Cake is made in the Cake Machine
Pumpkin Sauce is made in the Sauce Machine
Ghost Mushrooms are a new Crop
Oreo Plant is a new Crop
The Wafer Tree is a new Tree

Wafer Graveyard: 1 Wafer, 1 Black Forest Cake

Spider Cupcake: 1 Oreo Cookie, 1 Sour Cream

Cream of Ghost Mushroom Soup: 2 Ghost Mushrooms, 1 Condensed Milk

Snail Burger: 1 Spicy Steak Burger, 2 Spooky Eye Fruit

Strawberry Ghosts: 3 Strawberries, 1 Condensed Milk

The new Devil Duck Eggs, called Century Eggs,  have their own Recipe as well:

Century Egg Porridge: 1 Century Egg, 1 Rice

TIP:  You can use 'Out of Nowhere' if you have unlocked Mechology to produce 5 Oreo Cakes or 5 Pumpkin Sauce without ANY ingredients!

Special Tasks
xxxxxxxxxxx

Collect 12 Chests on Paths
Fish 8 times with Bone Hook

IF YOU WISH TO COMPLETE QUEST QUICKLY, DO NOT SET YOUR PETS TO COLLECT CHESTS OR CAST A NET BEFORE YOU REACH THE TASKS IN THE QUEST.  I WOULD RECOMMEND TURNING OFF THE AUTOMATIC PET COLLECTION SWITCH AS WELL UNTIL YOU REACH THE PET CHEST TASK.

NOTE;  Although every farm has its own glitches, I thought it might help to mention mine.  I turned off the automatic Pet labour with respect to the Chests, as some had been opened last night and I did not wish to use my entire quota before the task became active.  I turned it back on when the task appeared, but unfortunately went to the Island to plant Garlic.  When I returned to Seaside to open NEW Chests, none of them counted.  Somehow visiting the Island negated them in terms of counting towards the total.  In fact, this task is seriously flawed always where my farm is concerned.

STRATEGY TIPS:  The 'Trick or Treat' Activity will be active two days longer than the 'Penny's Apprentice' Quest.  For farmers who are not in a position to complete all of these activities and quests, remember that the 'Penny's Apprentice' Quest will be available from the Lighthouse after it expires.  The Collection Mission that gives the Magical Jello Tree will NOT be available, however, and if you do not complete the Collection Mission, you will be forced to pay RC for the Tree in the Market after the Mission expires.  I therefore suggest that all farmers try to complete the Collection Mission at least.

The Trick or Treat Activity's final Reward is a special Devil Duck Pond that may or may not be necessary in the future.  Many of the 'special' Animals and Machines NEVER have been featured in Quests.  I would suggest that for new farmers or low level farmers, the most important reward from the 'Trick or Treat' Activity is the Vampire's Castle, which is an Island Decoration.  The Farm Aids are useful as well.  If you want another Decoration for the old Hallowe'en Stage Base, the Hallowe'en Clock can be stacked on that Base.  It is NOT a theme item in this Farm Beauty Contest, however.

The Riddles that complete the new Halloween Party Base are due to expire soon, so I would make that a priority if you have not completed the Base yet, as it is worth 9 votes per day in the Farm Beauty Contest for farmers that are low on theme.

Penny's Apprentice 1
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Greetings, Farmer!  Hallowe'en is just round the corner!  I am doing something special this year, and I am very excited about it.

Harvest 40 Cane
  Skip for 10 RC

Produce 40 Sugar
  Skip for 10 RC

Harvest 6 Lychees
  Skip for 6 RC

Reward: 2500 Coins, 160 XP

Darryl:  I have been assigned a super secret mission for Hallowe'en... well, perhaps I am exaggerating a little.

Penny's Apprentice 2
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Darryl:  Penny has a lot of work to do, so she has asked some one to help.  Naturally I volunteered immediately to become her apprentice.

Harvest 40 Rye
  Skip for 10 RC

Collect 40 bottles of Milk
  Skip for 10 RC

Collect 20 Jars of Honey
  Skip for 10 RC

Reward: 2500 Coins, 160 XP

Darryl:  Penny and I are the best of friends, so happy to help. She gave me a list of tasks, so I would not forget any of them.

Penny's Apprentice 3
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Darry:  First on the list is to make certain I have the complete proper Apprentice Outfit.  Well, that is not an issue here!

Harvest 40 Tomatoes
  Skip for 10 RC

Produce 40 bottles of Ketchup
  Skip for 10 RC

Harvest 8 Coconuts
  Skip for 8 RC

Reward: 2500 Coins, 170 XP

Darryl: Unfortunately, Penny has forbidden me to wear the hat until my training is complete!  What a stick in the mud she is being!

Penny's Apprentice 4
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Darryl:  Speaking of sticks, a magic wand is next on the list.  Penny mentioned that wands choose their owners.  I am not certain how this works, but I am going to search the farm now for one.

Harvest 40 Wheat
  Skip for 10 RC

Produce 8 glasses of Cherry Juice
  Skip for 8 RC

Harvest 8 Cherries
  Skip for 8 RC

Reward: 2500 Coins, 170 XP

Darryl:  Now, where can we find a wand.... they are made of wood ordinarily, and we live on a farm, so...

Special Reward: Mission Gift Box containing farm aids

Penny's Apprentice 5
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Darryl:  Let's look there by the big weeping willow tree.  That is where we collect most of our firewood, so there should be plenty of potential wands there.

Harvest 50 Chardonnay
  Skip for 12 RC

Produce 50 bottles of Champagne
  Skip for 12 RC

Prepare 8 Coconut Milk
  Skip for 8 RC
Each requires 1 Coconut and 2 Sugar

Reward: 2500 Coins, 180 XP

Darryl:  A stick just fell on my head!  I guess what Penny said about a wand choosing its owner was true.  (And yet a stick does not a wand make....)

Penny's Apprentice 6
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Darryl:  So the wand is sorted, minus any magical powers...  Next we must gather ingredients for the spell to transform it.  These will be bubble gum, sago, and baking soda.

Harvest 50 Blue Roses
  Skip for 12 RC

Harvest 50 Corn
  Skip for 12 RC

Harvest 8 Apples
  Skip for 8 RC

Reward: 2500 Coins, 180 XP

Darryl:  Piece of cake!  Penny had everything in her laboratory.  She gave me instructions but unfortunately I did not pay enough attention...

Penny's Apprentice 7
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Darryl:  The next step is to prepare the equipment.  Luckily for me, Penny was kind enough to give me a cauldron for my very own!

Harvest 8 Mangoes
  Skip for 8 RC

Prepare 8 Honey Syrup
  Skip for 8 RC
Each requires 2 Honey and 2 Milk

Prepare 8 dishes of Sweet Mango
  Skip for 8 RC
Each requires 1 Mango and 2 Honey Syrup

Reward: 2500 Coins, 190 XP

Darryl:  Penny says the cauldron has magical properties.  There is an incantation along the inside: 'Nonstick Teflon'!  Wow!

Penny's Apprentice 8
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Darryl:  Now that the equipment is ready, we need to follow the instructions in Penny's Recipe.  We are going to make a 'Magical Bubble Potion'.  I am so excited!

Harvest 50 Sweet Potatoes
  Skip for 12 RC

Place Magical Jello Tree on the farm
  (Reward from Collection Mission)
Skip for ?  10 RC?  (Mine on farm)

Prepare 8 Bubble Gum Balls
  Skip for 8 RC
  This is a new Recipe
Each requires 1 Magical Jello and 1 Honey Syrup

Reward: 2500 Coins, 190 XP

Darryl:  The ingredients have been collected... now light the fire beneath our Cauldron!

Special Reward: Ghost Window for Darryl's House

Penny's Apprentice 9
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Darryl:  Now to have some real fun brewing the potion!  First we mix the ingredients for the jelly broth until it thickens... pour it into the cauldron and bring it to a boil!

Harvest 60 Grapes
  Skip for 15 RC

Produce 60 bottles of Wine
  Skip for 15 RC

Prepare 8 Sago Bubbles
  Skip for 8 RC
Each requires 2 Sweet Potatoes and 2 Wheat Flour

Reward: 2500 Coins, 200 XP

Darryl:  I like to believe I have a natural aptitude for magic!  Why else would Penny choose me to be her apprentice?

Penny's Apprentice 10
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Darryl:  Keep stirring this while I add the rest of the ingredients... a few drops of lime juice and... half a teaspoon of baking soda?  That does not sound right.  Perhaps Penny made a mistake?

Harvest 60 Garlic
  Skip for 15 RC
  This is an Island Task

Dig 12 Chests on the path
  Skip for 12 RC
It is the act of digging the Chest and not collecting it that appears to count, but the system is flawed.

Prepare 8 Sago Bubble Jello
  Skip for 8 RC
Each requires 1 Magical Jello and 1 Sago Bubbles

Reward: 2500 Coins, 200 XP

Darryl:  All of her measurements are a little suspect, I fear.  I am going to add one more teaspoon... an extra pinch of this, a dash of that.... surely I can make this a better potion!

Penny's Apprentice 11
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Darryl:  Now for the most important step: the enchantment.  This is where we declaim the magical words and cast the spell!

Harvest 20 Chestnuts
  Skip for 20 RC
This is an Island Tree.  As a 'fruit' tree, you can use farm aids such as Watering Cans to speed your harvests

Produce 20 bags of Chestnut Flour
  Skip for 10 RC
  This is an Island task

Harvest 10 Tea Tree Leaves
  Skip for 10 RC
  This is an Island Tree
As another 'fruit' tree, you can use Watering Cans to speed harvests

Reward: 2500 Coins, 210 XP

Darryl:  It goes like this...

Penny's Apprentice 12
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

BUBBLES OF GREEN, BUBBLES OF BLUE.   BLESS ME WITH BUBBLES, O MIGHTY SHABADOO!  Now I tap the rim of the cauldron with my magic wand... and that's it.  We should begin to see a vast production of magical bubbles now!

Harvest 60 Cranberries
  Skip for 15 RC
  This is an Island Crop

Produce 60 Dried Cranberries
  Skip for 15 RC
  This is an Island Task

Collect 6 bottles of Bat Milk
  Skip for 6 RC
N.B.  Bat Milk is produced by bats when they fertilise the Sakura Tree, the Spooky Tree and/or the Hazel Tree.  The Bat House is found in the Animal section of the Market.  You can own a total of 4.  The price in my Market is 18 RC, but as I own two, it may be lower for those who never obtained one of them.  Will try to confirm.

Reward: 2500 Coins, 210 XP

Darryl:  Nothing is happening!  Let's add one more teaspoon of baking soda... more means greater power, I suspect...

Special Reward: Island Mission Gift Box containing Farm Aids

Penny's Apprentice 13
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Darryl:  Look!  I see something is happening now!  It does not look quite right....  are the bubbles supposed to be so thick, spilling over the side of the cauldron?  This is bad, very bad.  It is making a terrible mess.

Fish 8 times with the Bone Fishhook
  Skip for 8 RC
Note:  As always, you can 'Miss' a catch deliberately to use your 7 default tries to complete this task without waiting or paying.

Prepare 8 bowls of Pasta
  Skip for 8 RC
Each requires 1 Cake Flour and 1 Ketchup

Produce 10 bottles of Tea Tree Essential Oil
  Skip for 10 RC

Reward: 2500 Coins, 220 XP

Darryl:  The slime I have created continues to spread.  Thank goodness, the robot hoover is here to mop up this disaster.

Penny's Apprentice 14
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Darryl:  The robot is not helping at all!  It sucked up the slime but now is spitting it out everywhere!  What can we do?

Harvest 8 Cedar Wood
  Skip for 8 RC
This is an Island Wood Tree, so farm aids cannot be used on it.  You can only use Weather such as Rain to speed harvests.  Use Electric Saw to obtain 2 pieces from each tree.

Prepare 12 bowls of Bloody Eyes
  Skip for 12 RC
Each requires 1 White Chocolate and 1 Spooky Eye Fruit

Prepare 8 Sticky Rice
  Skip for 8 RC
Each requires 2 Rice and 1 Coconut Milk

Reward: 2500 Coins, 220 XP

Darryl:  Wait!  The bubbles have stopped and the robo-vac has turned itself off now.  I thought we were doomed for a moment there.

Penny's Apprentice 15
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Darryl:  I suppose we shall have to clean this mess ourselves.  Actually, I rather fancy this as a Hallowe'en decoration for my room!

Craft 6 Wooden Aroma Bottles
  Skip for 6 RC
Each requires 2 Wool Yarn and 1 Cedar Wood as well as 1 Power to produce in the Island Workshop

Prepare 6 bowls of Bloody Pasta
  Skip for 6 RC
Each requires 2 Bloody Eyes and 1 Pasta

Prepare 8 Magical Bubble Potions
  Skip for 8 RC
  This is another new Recipe
Each requires 1 Magical Jello and 1 Champagne

Reward: 2500 Coins, 230 XP

Darryl:  Felicia was disgusted when she saw this mess... perhaps it will persuade her never to enter my room again!  It's a win win situation now!

Penny's Apprentice 16
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Darryl:  I feel good about my Hallowe'en preparations, whatever any one else may think.  Quiet, Farmer!  This ended well for us.

Craft 6 Tea Tree Aroma Bottles in the Beauty Shop
  Skip for 6 RC
Each requires 1 Wooden Aroma Bottle, 1 Tea Tree Essential Oil, 1 Distilled Water.  Takes 5 minutes but counts as soon as item enters slot

Prepare 6 plates of Mango with Sticky Rice
  Skip for 6 RC
Each requires 1 Sticky Rice and 1 Sweet Mango

Cook 3 Punch Bowl with Eyes in the Stove House
  Skip for 15 RC
If you do not have the Recipe, you can purchase it from the Market

  Ingredients:  2 Sugar, 4 Wine, 2 Lychee, 1 Spooky Fruit, 5 Power
Place all ingredients and set timer for 14 seconds.  Tap 'Finish' as soon as Bronze Star activates.

Reward: 2500 Coins, 230 XP

Darryl:  I do not think any one will let me go near a cauldron after this, though.  Time to find a new career path, I suppose!

Final Reward: Apprentice's Cauldron Decoration for Seaside.  Can be stacked on the old Hallowe'en Stage Base.  Gives a Purple Gift Box when cleaned.

Collection Set
xxxxxxxxxxxx

The Collection Set consists of the Ghost Window (Darryl's House), the Magical Jello Tree, and the Apprentice's Cauldron Decoration.  Register all three before the timer expires to collect a bonus reward in the form of a Gallery Book Friendship Flower as well as the usual Rewards of 88 Green Mystrons and 1 RC.

Darryl's Adventure Activity Stage

This is a new Activity for the Activity Stage.  It involves a Map where tasks are numbered from 1 through 50.  There are special rewards from time to time but the most significant occur after completing Numbers 25 and 50.

I would like to thank my wonderful administrator Anne for sharing Dutch information about these tasks.  It helped me tremendously.  I now am going through the tasks myself and publishing more specific details about each, but her advance notice to me was very useful.

You now have six and a half days to complete.  The Reward for completing 25 of these tasks is an Autumn Fox Decoration that gives a Purple Gift Box.  The Reward for completing 50 is an Autumn Raccoon Decoration that gives a Purple Gift Box.

Note to Low Level Farmers:  This Activity Stage Activity may be brutal to farmers who have few farm aids and smaller farmers.  You have a very limited time period to complete the 50 tasks that give two Purple Box Decorations.  I do know that some farmers do not complete the 11 day Quests immediately and some still may be struggling with tasks.  Complete the Collection Mission linked to the Quest at least.  You can complete the traditional Quest sequence later from the Lighthouse.  The only consideration here in terms of timing is whether you need 3 more theme votes per day from the Characters.  The Pug with the Rustic Sign Decoration IS a Theme Decoration in the current Farm Beauty Contest as is the Halloween Party Stage that can be completed by solving the Riddles.

If you are at a lower level, do not be discouraged.  You can CHOOSE simply to complete the activities or Quests that give you decorations you actually like.

The Cooking Stand Contest actually gives better rewards to farmers at lower levels than any of the timed Quests or Activity Stage Activities.  You will earn far more coins and a Decoration that gives a Gold Box when cleaned.   Furthermore, you often can buy ingredients and even the dishes themselves from your neighbours.

H.M. Freyashawk still needs votes for the Farm Beauty Contest on a daily basis for any hope to rank in the top 10.  The farm can accept a couple of new neighbours still.  I do wish to thank all of those farmers who are giving their votes to the farm,

I would ask farmers to remember me in their thoughts and prayers.  There are new findings that could suggest that the cancer has not been conquered but possibly has spread.  I pray this is not the case, but your moral support during the past year when I was diagnosed with cancer, and through the trauma from the death of my mother has been a source of comfort and strength.

I have added Crop Lists and Batch Production Lists now to help farmers plan ahead more effectively.  Please do not copy these without giving credit to Freyashawk.  Any one is welcome to use them, provided credit is given for my work.

Together for the Forest Quest and Plastic Bottles Collection Mission

A new 11 day Quest has been released in tandem with a Collection Mission.  The Reward for the Collection Mission is a Dwarf Pine Tree.  Always try to complete the Collection Mission even if you cannot complete the traditional Quest sequence.  You will be able to find the Quest later in the Lighthouse but you will only be able to obtain the new premium Tree from the Market after the Quest expires.

Note from Freyashawk:  I am happy to share my work with any Facebook group but please credit Freyashawk with the information.  In fact, a simple link to any post is possible, but it is only common decency to credit the individual who did the work.   If you use my site and find it helpful, please do consider voting for H.M. Freyashawk in the Farm Beauty Contest.  To rank in the top 10, a farm needs at least 11,000 Votes now.  It is only through the votes of other farmers that one can obtain this sort of total.  For 99% of farmers, any votes above 6000 are wasted.  It is only for rank that additional votes actually count for anything and it is extremely difficult to reach the totals required nowadays.  The farmers in the top three positions show 45,000 votes, which is absurd really.  Support claims it is possible, but I really doubt that it is possible without some sort of cheat that allows some manipulation of the betting option.  In any case, although I feel like Don Quixote tilting at windmills to continue to try, I appreciate every vote that is sent as a vote of confidence in the work I have been doing for over six years now.

My farm originally was named Harvest Moon.  As a number of other farmers have chosen that name for their farms, I renamed it H.M. Freyashawk.  Any farm with the name Harvest Moon no longer has any association with me.

A new Farm Beauty Contest has started as well today.  You will find a post about it beneath this one.  Note that the final reward for this Together for the Forest Quest has been added as a theme item.  It is the Pug with Rustic Wooden Sign Decoration.

Strategy Tips:
xxxxxxxxxxx

If you wish to complete the Quest as quickly as possible, do not cast a Net as you will be required to fish 8 times with the Bone Hook.  If you do cast a Net, you can speed harvest with OP, but it can require a tremendous quantity to do so, so best to wait.  There is no task involving collection of Chests by Pets, nor any task that requires tending flowers in the Botanic Garden.

I always set my Monkey Boost to reduce OP for these Quests.  It can make a significant difference in the amount of OP needed for Batch Production.  As usual, I have compiled lists of the Crops you will need as well as Batch Production tasks.

As far as the Collection Mission is concerned, I find that setting the Machine or Animal that requires a total of 50 items can be completed by setting Batch Production for 160 items.  For the one that requires 30 items, I set Batch Production at 90 items.  It is possible that I err on the side of generosity here, but I always find a better result if I do it this way than if I set it to a lower total and have to set it again.  Many players, including myself, found that an unusual number of Coconuts had to be harvested to produce the bottles required to complete the Collection Mission.  Perhaps it is because the developers chose a Coin Tree rather than Premium Tree, or perhaps it is simply a more demanding percentage.

Magic Cauldron Riddles and Halloween Carnival Farm Beauty Contest

(Above, shows location of the Magic Cauldron Activity.  Tap on the little Witch to access the riddles.)

(Above, the new Halloween Party Base, the final reward for solving all 21 Riddles, loaded with the three new Premium Theme Decorations.  I myself find the Little Pumpkin Magician and Little Candy Ghost very charming.  The Little Pumpkin Magician will perform a few minor animations if she is the only decoration on the base but it is only when the Little Candy Ghost joins her that she will fly and the little will o' the wisps or tiny ghosts will appear and the two interact.  You do not really NEED the Skeleton Hand to activate the main animations, although it will appear and disappear and reach for a little ghost in vain.)

Here are all of the Magic Cauldron Riddles solved.  (Thank you, Anne!).

Last updated on Friday, 4 October with instructions on where theme items can be purchased or obtained.  The final reward for the new Quest, the Pug with the Rustic Sign, has been added to the theme list, so when you complete the Quest, take a new 'Snapshot' that includes this decoration if you do not have maximum votes for Theme.

Note that the Witch floats in the sea to the right of the Activity Stage and your Activity Stage will remain closed.  Tap on the floating Witch to commence the Magic Cauldron Riddles.  When you have completed all 21 Riddles, you tap on the Witch in the Menu to receive the new Halloween Party Base, which will be completed and which will allow stacking of the new premium Decorations.

The new Farm Beauty Contest will begin on Friday, probably at the same time as a new 11 day Quest and Collection Mission, but the developers at least have loaded the Red Book with all the theme items, so you can prepare your farm for the Contest now.  Go to the Menu, choose the Farm Beauty Trophy Icon and tap on it to find the Red Book.  I have listed all theme items below, with the values of every item that is worth more than 1 Vote from any Character.

TIP:  For those farmers especially who will be short on Theme Votes, you will receive the chance to solve three riddles each day.  You receive three more at reset.  I suggest you solve the three free riddles each day until the Farm Beauty Contest begins on Friday and then pay to solve the rest in order to be able to place the finished Base on your Farm and obtain maximum Theme votes for it from the very start.  There is a total of 21 riddles.  You should have been able to solve at least 9 without paying, so you will be able to pay 12 RC to complete it on Friday for the Contest.  This is less than the cost of most decorations and certainly less than you would pay for any Base in the Market.

WARNING:  Make certain that you have four Pets fully accessorised ON YOUR FARM.  Make certain that the Spooky Tree is on the farm and NOT in the Tree Nursery and make certain the Bat House is on the Farm as well if you have one.  It counts as a theme item as well as an Animal.

There are four new items that are included in the Theme list.  All of these are worth more than one vote each from the three characters that vote for Theme.  They are as follows:

Halloween Party Base
Reward for Magic Cauldron; tap on witch after completing 21 riddles; will be a finished base
Worth 3 votes from each of three of characters, a maximum of 9 votes per day

ALL ABOUT FARM BEAUTY CONTESTS
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

xxxxxxxxxz
Introduction
xxxxxxxxxz

This post is designed to allow you to gain as many Votes as possible from the four characters by maximising your own Farm to achieve the highest number of Votes in every Category.

The Farm Beauty Contest can be confusing and difficult for new player.  Often, they are unaware of their own ability to increase the Votes from the 4 Characters to the point where they can obtain the Reward Decoration without any votes from their Neighbours.  It requires a little planning.  This post was created to show you how to do precisely that.  Every aspect of the Farm Beauty Contest as well as the rules by which each Category operates is covered here.

Remember ALWAYS that the votes you receive from the Characters are based on your current 'Snapshot'.  If you change your farm to obtain more votes, always take a new photograph or Character votes will not change!  You do not need to take a photograph more than once, however, if you set up your farm for maximum Character votes at the very start.

One more point about the 'Snapshot'.  If you play on more than one device, you may see your Photograph only on the device you were using when you submitted it.  Do not fret about this!  It remains valid for the duration of the Contest, even if you do not see it on your other devices.

Theme List now complete with values in terms of Theme Votes as well as where and how to obtain each.  This Contest gives multiple vote values to some old Decorations and each of the new premium Decorations always give multiple numbers of votes for Theme.

The quickest way to maximise theme votes, therefore, especially for a new farmer, is to pay cash for one of the new premium decorations.  They can be expensive, however, and for many farmers, earning the Reward Decoration for 4000 Votes in the Farm Beauty Contest is a long process that requires patience.  Do be aware, however, that the premium Decorations not only count for multiple votes, but give special Rewards often in the form of RC, Yellow or Blue Mystrons as well as giving the best Gift Box both to the host and to the visitor when cleaned.  Sometimes the judicious expenditure of cash in a 'free game' is worthwhile.

For a new farmer, the easiest way, however, to raise your Character vote total probably is by obtaining a couple of farm expansions and by raising your Landscape Point total to at least 2100.  I need to confirm the precise number of points now required to maximise your Landscape Point votes, but it really is worth the effort and you need not spend any premium cash to do this.  There are coin paths that will do the job.  See my section on Landscape Points below.

Knowing where you can capitalise on your own Character Votes is key to success.  For a farmer not to improve his/her farm for the Contest and then beg for votes from Neighbours ultimately is not the best strategy.... why not make the most of your own farm first?  At least then you can guarantee that you win the Reward decoration in EVERY Farm Beauty Contest as Landscape Points remain constant as do Farm Expansions.

N.B.  PLEASE BE AWARE THAT YOU NEED ONLY A TOTAL OF 182 VOTES EACH DAY TO OBTAIN THE TOTAL OF 4000 NEEDED FOR THE REWARD DECORATION AND ONLY A TOTAL OF 273 VOTES PER DAY TO OBTAIN ALL REWARDS AT 6000 VOTES.

Changes in the number of days that the contest lasts and some other Character vote values have made it easier for farmers to obtain all necessary votes without having the votes of neighbours.  I request votes for HM. Freyashawk only in order to rank.  For the most part, voting for a farm that has reached 6000 Votes is a waste of your votes.  With a total of 6400, the farm does not even rank in the top 100 for example.  HM. Freyashawk needs at least a total of almost 11,000 Votes by the end of the contest to rank in the top ten.  Does it matter?  Well, it matters to me, as I consider it a show of support for this site.

I would like to thank every Farmer for every vote I received in the last Contests.  I have not been ranking in the top ten, alas.  I need only a few more farmers to vote for my farm on a daily basis probably to reach 10 at least.

A number of Theme decorations will appear in the Lucky Wheel.  I will try to give price details as they appear.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Note to new Farmers
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I believe that the Farm Beauty Contest still is unlocked at Level 30.  Even at that Level, it IS possible to maximise your Farm to obtain enough votes from the Characters to receive the Decoration Reward for having 4000 Votes.

You must start on the first day, however, with the best possible configuration, if you are at the lower levels and have not played long enough to have acquired many of the Theme items.

Even if you are not that concerned about your own results, you can register and help other farmers with your votes.  Even if you feel you cannot obtain a total of 4000 or 6000 votes, do your best to organise your farm for maximum votes to practice for future Contests.  If you are a low level farmer but are willing to spend a little money, purchase of the new theme decorations should make a big difference in theme totals, which could make all the difference in terms of reaching the goal of 4000 votes by the end of the contest.

COUNT YOUR TOTAL EACH DAY.  Most important are the Character Votes.  If you are reaching a total of 182,  you will obtain the Decoration.  (The required total used to be 200, so now it is easier to reach the necessary total of 4000 before the end of the Contest.)

Tips:  Where Landscape Points are concerned, try to find a Buddy who is at a high level who will send you paths as Gifts.  If you are able and willing to spend RC, the Macaron Path and Pebble Paths can boost Landscape Point totals faster with less effort, but if you can place enough of the other Paths and make certain that your Decorations are within their sphere of influence, you can reach the necessary total for maximum votes in that category.

The theme list is to be found in the little red book in the Farm Beauty Contest Menu.  I publish a list of all Theme items in my post with details as to where and how they can be obtained.  Some Theme items originally were released as Mission Rewards.  In many cases, these old Missions can be activated from the Lighthouse and you can obtain the Decoration without paying RC for it.  Others can be purchased directly from the Gallery using Blue or Yellow Mystrons.  Try to do it at the start, however whenever possible and make certain that, should you improve your farm's configuration, you take a new screenshot immediately!  You do not have to take more than one screenshot during the course of the contest UNLESS you obtain items that improve the Character vote totals.

Every day counts!  Count the total number of votes you receive from the four Characters at the end of the first day of the Contest and then see how you can improve this number if, multiplied by 20 (days), you do not have 4000 Votes as the projected total.

You need a total of 4000 Votes by the end of the Contest to receive the significant reward which is the Decoration.  Almost any farmer at Level 50 or above should be able to maximise the Votes of the 4 Characters to obtain this even without a single vote from a Neighbour.  You basically need a total of 182 Votes per day, although the Contest is giving an extra voting period and that reduces the total needed per day.  (It used to be 200 votes per day.)

If you care about this, register your farm on the first day with maximum votes from the 4 Characters using the guidelines below.

For the Avatar, you need 273 votes per day, but with the recent changes in Character Votes, it is not impossible by any means to reach these totals from the Character votes alone.  If you are receiving 273 votes per day from the four Characters, you will obtain the Avatar by the end of the Contest.  If you have reached Level 90, you should be able to obtain 273 Votes per day from the Characters alone.  This was the case when 300 votes per day were needed, and 273 is a much lower number.

Note that for almost 99% of farmers, ANY VOTES ABOVE 6000 simply are wasted.  Many farmers therefore announce when they have reached 6000 and urge the friends who vote for them to vote for some one else at the end of the contest.  The only reason to vote for a Farmer who has reached 6000 Votes is to try to help that farmer to RANK in the Contest.  I always ask ONLY for votes for HM. Freyashawk throughout the Contest to try to have that farm rank in the top 10.  The name Freyashawk has been associated with the strategy guides I write for a couple of decades.  It always is my hope that a farmer will see the name in the top 10 and then look for a guide for the game if that farmer needs help with Seaside.

Once again, I wish to thank every farmer who sent votes to HM. Freyashawk.

Pet Category
xxxxxxxxxxx

The total number of Votes that can be given by Grandma for Pets is 12.  Equipment (the collars, scarves and bow ties and so on) that you forge in the Factory each count for 1 Vote.  Apparel counts for the other Votes and it does not matter if it is premium Apparel or Temporary Apparel or even duplicate Apparel.  All will count equally.  A Buddy Pet does NOT count.  That was a glitch.

PETS MUST BE OUTSIDE THE PET HOUSE TO COUNT!

In other words, to gain 12 Votes from Grandma each day for the Pet Category, you need a total of 4 Pets, each wearing a piece of equipment and 2 pieces of apparel.

Formerly, some Pets could not use three accessories.  With a recent update, however, the Kangaroo, Meerkat and Hippo were given new equipment.

There is a new item in the Exclusive Store for Pets.  It is the Exclusive Pet Hat and it costs 15 RC.  If you have not bought permanent accessories in the past, you may find this is worth the price.  It will not be available, however, unless you are at a rather high Country Club level.  It requires Level 8 in the Country Club.

For players without premium accessories:  First make certain each has equipment.  Go to the Apparel Menu and find the 7 day hats and accessories for each pet that can be purchased for 100 TC each.  Equip four Pets each with a Hat and whatever other accessory that Pet can use and then let them loose outside.  Take your snapshot for the full 12 votes from Grandma!

Purchasing apparel for a temporary period in order to take a snapshot that will give you more Votes for this category really may be worth the effort if your Country Club Level is not high enough to purchase the permanent Exclusive Pet Hat.  12 votes per day from Grandma, multiplied by 20 is 240 Votes... I constantly see messages in game chat near the end of the Contest from a player who says he or she is 'short' 200 votes... maximise the Pet Category and you have them.

Pet Warning
xxxxxxxxxx

There is a new risk where Pets are concerned for the Contest purposes in the form of Treasure Land. Make certain that you have FOUR Pets fully kitted out on your Farm when you take your Snapshot.  I myself have made the mistake of leaving one of the Pets that actually had the full three items in Treasure Land rather than switching it out with one that did not have the apparel or simply bringing it home.

High Level Farms
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx'

At Level 136, HM. Freyashawk finally can obtain maximum votes from Dad for 'High Level' Farm.

Level requirements have changed a few times through the years but I only know for certain that Freyashawk at Level 117 received 15/18 votes for 'high level farm' from Dad.  At Level 120, HM. Freyashawk received 16/18 votes from Dad for 'high level farm'.   At Level 133, received 17/18 from Dad for 'high level'.  This was NOT the case in the earlier Farm Beauty Contests.  The actual level requirement for maximum votes in this category must be Level 136 as this is the first time HM. Freyashawk received maximum votes.

Basic Rules
xxxxxxxxxx

It is your current photograph of your Farm or 'snapshot' that determines the Votes from the 4 Characters in the game every day.  In previous Contests, a Theme decoration often would be counted if it had been placed on the Farm, even if it had not been registered yet.  I believe this still is true, although it is a good idea to register all theme items as quickly as possible as you do receive rewards for registration.

IF YOUR PHOTOGRAPH DISAPPEARS FROM THE CONTEST MENU, DO NOT FEEL YOU MUST REPLACE IT.  THIS IS SOMETHING THAT CAN OCCUR WITH ANY GAME UPDATE AND THEY ARE VERY FREQUENT NOW.  THE PHOTOGRAPH THAT YOU REGISTERED STILL COUNTS AND YOUR NEIGHBOURS CAN SEE IT!   Do not waste time nor energy reorganising your farm to maximise votes if the 'snapshot' that you registered GAVE you maximum votes.  It still exists and is used for vote totals.

Balance and variety always is the key in these contests.  You need a variety of Crops, Animals, Trees, Machines and Theme Decorations on your farm to maximise the votes from the 4 Characters.  If you design your Farm for maximum votes from the 4 Characters, you should not need ANY Votes from your Neighbours to obtain the Theme Decoration Reward that requires a total of 4000 Votes by the end of the Contest.

Duplicates never have counted where Crops, Trees, Animals, Machines and Decorations are concerned.  I doubt that has changed.  The only change really is that duplicates of Pet Equipment and Apparel DO count.

xxxxx
Crops
xxxxx

Have at least 16 different Crops on your Farm to obtain maximum Votes from Darryl for 'variety of Crops'.  You may need less but Crops are easy to plant.  They do not have to be mature when you take the photo to count.

I cannot confirm that the new Crops count for this.  They are the Timothy Grass and Passion Fruit.

xxxxx
Trees
xxxxx

Try to have 16 different types of Trees ON YOUR FARM when you take the photograph.  Trees in the Tree Nursery will not be counted.  Again, you may need fewer than 16 types but it does not hurt to be safe to obtain maximum votes from Grandma for 'enough Trees'.

xxxxxxx
Animals
xxxxxxx

Beehives and Butterfly Houses as well as the Bat House are considered Animals so every different TYPE of Beehive or Butterfly House counts but duplicates of any type of Animal do NOT Count. You should not need a total of 16 different types of Animal to obtain maximum votes from Felicia for Animals but again, if you have 16, use them.

I believe that the  Elephant may not be counted, but cannot confirm.  I would not bank on the new Icelandic Sheep counting either.

xxxxxxxx
Machines
xxxxxxxzz

In Contests in the past, you only needed a total of 12 different machines to obtain maximum Votes from Dad for Machines but this may have changed.  Players claimed that the Salad Machine gave 2 Votes instead of 1, but never confirmed that.  In any case, duplicates do not count and if you can cram 16 onto your Farm before you take the photo, better to be safe than sorry.

It is possible that upgraders boost votes in the Machine category but cannot confirm this.  Again, better to be safe than sorry.

I cannot confirm that the new Wrap Machine will count.  The Pottery Wheel did not count previously, but that may have changed.  Honestly, though, I recommend using the old Machines for the purpose of taking the 'Snapshot' to be on the safe side.

xxxxxxxxx
Expansion
xxxxxxxxx

Both Felicia and Dad give Votes for 'Big Farms'.  The good news is that you do not need many expansions on your original farm to obtain 16/16 from each of them.  A farmer who does not have even the 23 x 23 Expansion will obtain maximum 16/16 votes in this category!

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Gallery Registration
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Register as many items as possible BEFORE you take your photograph to maximise this Category.  Theme items will count even when unregistered now, but you do need a good total of registered items in your Gallery to obtain maximum votes for this category.

Both Darryl and Grandma give Votes for Gallery... furthermore, you obtain rewards from the Gallery when you register any item.

xxxxxxxxx
Landscape
xxxxxxxxx

'Beautiful Paths' is the term for your Landscape Point total.  As three of the four Characters vote for this Category, it is a very good idea to have Paths on your Farm and place as many Decorations as possible within their 'sphere of influence'.  I have covered the details of Paths and Landscaping elsewhere on this site.  The better the Path, the more points you receive when Decorations are placed next to it or near it.  The Macaron Path, Pebble Path and Snow Path each are worth 50 Landscape Points.  The Snow Path no longer is available but the other two can be purchased in the Paths Menu for 1 RC each.  The Wooden Path is worth 35 Landscape Points and costs 50000 Coins.  Next best is the Forest Path worth 25 Landscape Points with a price of 15000 Coins.  If you have Buddies, however, they can send Forest Paths and Stone and Flower Paths to you.  To send, go to the Special Gifts Buddy Menu.  You can send a Stone and Flower Path to a Buddy for 4000 Coins and a Forest Path for 12000 Coins.  You actually can send a Macaron Path to a Buddy for 1 RC.  There are Buddy Level requirements for sending some of the Special Gifts.

Remember that Landscape Point total is the total of the value of ALL the Paths PLUS the Decorations that are close enough to those Paths to boost Points.

In the past, you needed less than 2300 Landscape Points to achieve maximum... not certain what the current requirement is but here are some farmers who have less than that and their results in the current contest:

1059 Landscape Points: 16/24 Votes

1421 Landscape Points: 19/24 Votes

1484 Landscape Points: 20/24 Votes

1720 Landscape Points: 21/24 Votes

How to Maximise Landscape Points
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

First of all, you will not be able to move any Paths or perhaps even set any new Paths now if you have Pets roaming about your Farm.  You must place all of them in the Pet House before you can set new Paths or move existing Paths, including Water Paths as well as those on the land.

Remember that placement of Decorations and Bases is everything.  A Decoration or Base will give additional Landscape Points only if it is placed near a Path that has not used its maximum number of Points yet.  For example, the Macaron Path can give a boost of 50 Landscape Points when Decorations are placed close to it.  Once that amount is reached, however, piling more Decorations or Bases near it counts for nothing.  Use the Move Tool to hover over various spots to see how your Landscape Points will be affected.

Theme
xxxxxx

Only Grandma does not vote for Theme, so you have Theme Votes from three out of four farm characters.  The Theme List always can be found in the little Red Book in the Farm Beauty Contest Menu.  I will include a list below as well with the price of each Decoration if you can purchase it and how to do so in each case.

Theme items can be obtained in many different ways.  Those that are 'premium' decorations as well as Bases are the ones that often will give you more than one vote from each of the three Characters who vote for theme.

Note that premium decorations from the past often will be worth more than 1 Vote as well, so your willingness or ability to purchase premium Decorations is an investment in future Contests as well as the current one.

N.B.  Go directly to the Gallery to see if a Decoration is available for purchase now.  I will add more information later about the Theme items that are available in the Lucky Wheel/Buddy Share Box.  I have listed those that can be found currently in the Wheel but had no luck whatsoever landing on any of them when I spun my Wheel so am collecting prices slowly.

Please be aware that often you can find premium decorations both in a current special sale offer on the top right of your screen AND in one of the Boutique Shops in your Market.  If you see the item in a special sale offer, however, you are best served by purchasing it in that way, as it usually is bundled with other items, including farm aids and/or Stove House Recipes and RC.  These sale offers expire at different times so the items I have listed below may no longer be available in a special sale offer in a day or two.

Lucky Wheel
xxxxxxxxxxx

It now is possible to obtain more Tokens for the Lucky Wheel through the rewards given by Darryl and his House on a daily basis.  Most of the Decorations in the Lucky Wheel originally were given as rewards for timed Quests and these Quests often still can be activated from the Lighthouse.

As far as the Wheel is concerned, if you land on the box with the Decoration, you get it free. Otherwise, there is an RC price attached to it.  When you place it in the Share Box, it will have the RC price.

Theme is one of the most difficult of categories for players who are unwilling or unable to spend actual cash on the new premium decorations that are offered with each new Farm Beauty Contest.  If you DO buy the three new Decorations, you usually will obtain maximum votes from the Characters for theme with little difficulty
