Seaside Silk Road Quest and Cloth Tigers Collection Mission
(Pictures of the Silk Road, an ancient trade route that spanned continents)
A new time-restricted Quest and Collections Mission have been released. The traditional Quest sequence has 16 parts as is usual nowadays and the second half will require access to the Island. Furthermore, the second half has different level requirements from the first and the farmer must be at Level 26 or higher to unlock it.
The current Quest is linked to the Lunar New Year. This will be the Year of the Monkey and the 'Cute Monkey' Decoration that you will receive when you complete Seaside Silk Road 8 celebrates that theme.
The Collections Mission is as follows:

The Silk Road
xxxxxxxxxxxx
The Silk Road is an ancient trade route rather than a physical road, made up in fact of many different roads that spanned continents. It may not be one of the Ancient Wonders of the World because it is not a structure but it certainly is one of the ancient marvels of humanity. Its inception was during the reign of the Han Dynasty as early as 200 BC and it linked Europe with the Mediterranean, the Arab World, India, Persia and China, among others. It was given its name because of the popularity and value of the Silk made in China and traded throughout the world. The name actually was coined by a 19th century German who made a number of expeditions along the very ancient routes. Parts of the Silk Road have been made a World Heritage Site. There are many glorious ruins from ancient civilisations along the trade routes that comprise the general 'Silk Road'.
With trade comes the exchange of ideas, philosophies and culture. The Silk Road was responsible for many advances throughout the world.

Lucky Wheel and Share Box
There have been many new options in Family Farm Seaside recently, including the Buddy System and the Lucky Wheel. I created a specific post for the Buddy System on this site, but will discuss Level 2 Buddies below as well because they are connected to the ability to access a Buddy's Share Box.
Lucky Token Special Gift
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I am placing this at the top because it is a temporary, new option. As of Candlemas, 2 February, you will find a new Gift in the Special Gifts section of the Buddy Gift Menu. For 10 Green Mystrons, you can send 20 Lucky Tokens to ANY Buddy, even a Buddy at Level 0 every hour.
Lucky Wheel and Share Box:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Although most farmers are aware of this, it may be worth a mention for newer players or those at lower levels. There is a fairly new option of a 'Share Box' on FFS. It is linked to the Lucky Wheel which you can purchase for 100 Coins in the Buildings section of the Market. It can be placed either on your farm or any Building Plot. The Lucky Wheel now is the second Wheel when you access the Wheels and it requires special Lucky Tokens. You earn these primarily by completing the Daily Quests and opening the Treasure Chests, although they can be earned in other ways sometimes. You can win Lucky Tokens by spinning the regular Wheel but only if you pay RC. When you open the boxes after spinning the Lucky Wheel, you sometimes will see a 'Share' option. If you do not want to purchase the item for yourself, place it in the 'Share' Box. Any Buddy who is Level 2 or higher can then purchase the item and you will earn Coins and a Lucky Token when the item is bought. Although Lucky Tokens expire after a specific amount of time, items placed in the Share Box never expire. You can have up to eight items in the Box. To remove one, press and hold down and it will disappear. The best items to share are the ones that carry an RC price ordinarily such as premium trees or Decorations... Avatars are useful to share as well.
Note here that you seldom will obtain a Decoration, premium Tree or even Avatar on the first spin of the Lucky Wheel. The price to spin it increases each time you use it in a single session, so players are advised to save their Lucky Tokens until they have at least 50 as this will give them a better chance to gain a good item such as Decoration, premium Tree or Avatar.
New Decorations have been placed in the Lucky Wheel as of the beginning of February. These include the Mini Eiffel Tower, the Bouquet Bunny, the Robovase and the Flower Stand.
Prices are:
Robovase: 12 RC
Mini Eiffel Tower: 15 RC
Flower Stand: 15 RC
Bouquet Bunny: 20 RC
Valentine Beehive: 20 RC
Accessing Share Box
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
There have been some problems with accessing a Level 2 Buddy's Share Box for players using Android devices although it appears to work fairly well on Kindle. If you have trouble, please contact Support.
Level 2 Buddy
xxxxxxxxxxxx
You become a Level 2 Buddy after you AND your Buddy have performed a specific number of actions for one another. Each action is worth a specific number of Buddy Points. Giving Buddy Gifts, whether ordinary gifts of special gifts also is worth Buddy Points. When you access the Gift Menu now, you will see two separate tabs. One is for Neighbours and the other is for Buddies. When you tap on the Buddy tab, you will see two different choices in the form of bars at the top. The first is for ordinary Gift and the second is for Special Gifts. Two of the special Gifts are Coin purchases and should be sent regularly to your Buddies, especially if you are not yet at Level 2. Note that you cannot send ANY Buddy Gifts unless your Buddy has reached Level 1.
The most valuable Special Gift is the Elephant. It costs 10 RC and gives a Blue Cleaning Gift Box when placed. It is worth 30 Buddy Points as well so is a quicker way to reach a higher level than other actions if you can afford it. You only can send one Elephant each 23 hours. Every other special gift has a specific timer as well.
The Free Gifts that you can send any Buddy at Level 1 or above are:
Buddy Tree Fence
Magic Stick
Soil Rake
Cheese Mould
This is used to upgrade the Cheese Upgrader
Cement Bag
This is used to upgrade the Decorations tab of your Warehouse at higher levels.
Each give 1 Buddy Point and can be sent daily to all Buddies who are at Level 1 or higher. Of the Free Gifts, those that are connected to the Buddy Trees are the Buddy Tree Fence and the Magic Stick. You need 5 Buddy Fences to build ANY size of Buddy Tree. The Super Buddy Tree and Mega Buddy Tree require other materials as well. The Magic Stick is used to tend Buddy Trees on Buddy Farms. It is the only alternative to the use of Organic Fertiliser, regular Watering Cans or RC so is a very useful item.
Note that the cost of tending a Buddy Tree depends both on your Buddy Level and the type of Tree that you tend. A regular Buddy Tree requires the use of 1 item but if you are at Level 2 with the Buddy, you can perform a total of 2 Heart Actions which means that you can tend the Tree twice. A Super Buddy Tree requires the use of 2 Items but if you are at Level 2 with the Buddy, you can tend that tree twice. A Mega Buddy Tree requires the use of 3 items but if you are at Level 2 with that Buddy, you can tend the Tree twice.

You can send this gift every hour
As you can see, the last two gifts are available even at Level 1 for Coins and you can send them every hour. There is no limit to the number of gifts you can send a single Buddy at any given time. The limit is the time-restriction on each Gift.
Some of these Gifts have more Charm value than others. The Elephant is worth 8 Charm and the Macaron Road is worth 2 Charm. The Big Snow Fence is a Theme Decoration for the current Farm Beauty Contest, incidentally. You can help a low level Buddy by sending these gifts if you can afford the RC.
Low Level Farmers as Buddies
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Low Level Farmers need Buddies as much as higher level Farmers but it is kindest to make certain that you place a regular Buddy Tree always on your farm for them even if you have unlocked and placed the Mega Buddy Tree. In fact, many farmers now place all three Trees on their Farm. This helps every one actually as often one Tree will be in a growth period when your Buddy visits. A Tree that is in the growth period cannot be tended. Having more than one Tree on your farm allows more Buddy points to be earned.

Best Cleanable Decorations and their Gift Boxes
This is an updated post that will include all Cleanable Decorations with the type or colour of Gift Box associated with them.
Most players are familiar now with the various Gift Boxes in Family Farm Seaside and how they are obtained. Basically, there are two types of Decorations in the form of those that can be 'cleaned' by Neighbours to yield Gift Boxes and those that cannot be cleaned. Beyond that, however, there are further distinctions.
Gift Boxes come in different colours. Each Decoration yields a Gift Box of a specific colour. The very best Gift Boxes are the Blue ones. As a basic rule, EVERY final Decoration from a Cooking Stand Contest yields a Blue Box. Every Decoration from a time-restricted Quest gives a Purple Gift Box. EVERY Base yields a Blue Box. Finally, it is through the special Sales primarily that new Decorations that give Blue Boxes are obtained.
In the Gallery now, some Decorations are highlighted but although many of the ones that yield Blue Boxes are highlighted in gold, this is not the reason. I am beginning to suspect that such highlighting may denote the most popular Decorations.
The most valuable Gift Boxes tend to be those that are Blue or Gold. I therefore will list the Decorations that yield these colours first.
Note there is a new type of Decoration in the form of the temporary Trophies given to players who have high rank in the Farm Beauty Contest. Harvest Moon FDC received an Iron Trophy in the last contest. Unfortunately, there was a glitch that both prevented me from registering the Trophy and prevented any player from cleaning it for almost a fortnight That now has been fixed, giving me the opportunity to discover that the Iron Trophy yields a special Iron Trophy Gift Box actually named the Farm Beauty Contest Iron Cleaning Box. Although it is very pretty, it really is not as valuable as the Blue or Gold Gift Boxes. It usually contains nothing more than Coins and a few Green Mystrons. Nonetheless, I like having it in my Gift Box!
The Decorations that yield Blue Gift Boxes include:
Market Stall
Clothes Drying Rack
Macaron Flower
Pinwheel Cart
Snow Magician
Elephant
Thai Elephant
Mommy Duck
Ferris Wheel
Teddy Bear Balloon
Parachute Penguin
Shower Hippo
Sweet Chicks Cart

Max the Raccoon
Hermit the Crab
Note that, up to this point, all Bases have yielded a Blue Box, but the Ice Base is giving a Purple Box, rather disappointingly... hope it is a temporary error.
Thank you, Rajesh Khan for reminding me that the Mini Beach gives Blue Boxes.
Most of the other cleanable Decorations yield Purple Gift Boxes which are the second best of all the colours. Lower on the scale are the Silver Cleaning Bags and the Gold Cleaning Bags.
Every colour contains a random assortment of Items that can include Power, OP,, Coins, Gasoline and Green Mystrons. The only difference between the Gift Boxes of various colours is that the Blue Boxes usually contain more Items than the others. The Gold Gift Boxes are the next in value generally speaking.
Note that Island Decorations NEVER yield Blue Gift Boxes. They yield Boxes, however, that include Island Farm Aids as well as the usual Rewards.
From time to time, a special sale or offer will include Decorations that temporarily yield RC or Yellow Mystrons instead of the usual Cleaning Gift Boxes. After a specified number of days, the same Decoration will begin to yield Gift Boxes instead.
To obtain any Gift Cleaning Bag, you either need to be the owner of a Cleanable Decoration that is placed on your own Farm and then cleaned by a Neighbour or your have to visit a Neighbour's Farm to clean a Decoration there.
There are other 'bags' that contain similar Items to those found randomly in Cleaning Gift Bags. These include the Loyal Player Reward, the Cooking Gift Bag and the Angel Rain Package. The Loyal Player Reward is one that is given to a Player who stays logged into the game for a specific amount of time. The Cooking Gift Bag is given whenever a farmer eats at a Neighbour's Cooking Stand. The Angel Rain Egg, when cleaned by a neighbour, yields the Angel Rain Package.
Stacked Decorations
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Stacked Decorations are a fairly new option that was created with the various 'Bases'. All Bases when complete give a Blue Gift Box, but you can 'stack' other Decorations on them and these each give their own Cleaning Box, the colour of which is linked to THAT Decoration. Whenever you visit a Neighbour who has a Base stacked with Decorations, the first Neighbour to clean the Base will receive the Blue Gift Bag... after that, you can try to clean a specific Decoration by tapping on its position on the base and you will receive the Gift Box that is associated with that Decoration. In other words, up to five cleanings can take place on a base that is stacked with the maximum of four Decorations. The exception to this is the Bird Home Base simply because the Decorations that can be stacked on it are NOT Cleanable. They have Charm points but cannot be cleaned.
Charm Points
xxxxxxxxxxx
This brings me to the Farm Beauty Contests and the business of Charm Points and Theme Decorations. Once upon a time, we placed only the Decorations we liked personally as well as trying to place as many of those that yielded the Blue Boxes as possible. Now with the advent of the Farm Beauty Contests, we have to worry about Theme and Charm Points. What that means is that some of us tend to load our farms with as many Decorations as possible, especially when they have been declared to be part of the current Theme for a Contest. Theme Decorations can consist both of cleanable Decorations and ones that cannot be cleaned. They can include items without any Charm Point value as well. When farms are crowded densely with Decorations, it sometimes is difficult to find the ones with the Blue Gift Boxes. Nonetheless, this is our brave new world...
Note that the rules have changed now in that Decorations that are purchased with Coins will have a limit as far as the Charm point total for purposes of any Farm Beauty Contest.
Achievements
xxxxxxxxxxxx
Note that Achievements now include specific numbers of each colour of Gift Box to be obtained from Neighbours' Farms. It therefore is worth the effort to clean EVERY kind of cleanable Decoration now!
Tips for Farmers
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
As the Blue Boxes do contain the best items for the most part (everything IS random, of course), it is a good idea not to crowd cleanable Decorations that yield different colours of Gift Boxes together unless you are past the point where it matters to you... if you place all Blue Box Decorations together in front or in another prominent or easily accessible position, you probably will obtain more Blue Boxes every night when the game resets.
Gold Cleaning Box List
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
This is a new list so it will be updated gradually. The Gold Cleaning Gift Boxes are almost as valuable as the Blue Gift Boxes. In fact, I sometimes receive more OP from the Gold ones than the Blue...
I do believe that all the Decoration Rewards from the Farm Beauty Contests give Gold Cleaning Boxes.

Silver Gift Boxes
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
The Silver Gift Boxes probably are the least valuable of all. Oddly enough, the large Swimming Pool yields only a Silver Gift Box as does the Duck Pond that we had to build a couple of years ago. I do believe that the Gift Hill gives a Silver Box as well. In fact, many of the Cleanable Decorations that you can purchase in the Market for Coins give only a Silver Gift Box. Some do not give ANY Box but only give Coins.

Island Boxes
xxxxxxxxxxx
All Time-Restricted Quest Decorations yield Island Purple Gift Boxes. The Island Decorations that you purchase in the Market for RC yield Island Gold Cleaning Boxes. For example, the Cow Plant Stand and Sheep Plant Stand both yield the Island Gold Cleaning Boxes where the Swan Lake and Christmas House yield the Purple. The Landmark Decorations that you craft cannot be cleaned.

Which Decorations are Cleanable?
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
If you see the icon of a Cleaning Brush next to the Decoration, it is Cleanable. When you purchase a Decoration in a special Sale, tap on the little 'i' that gives information and it will tell you precisely what colour of Cleaning Gift Box you will receive from the Decoration as well as any special temporary Rewards such as RC, Yellow Mystrons or others. The temporary Rewards usually are for 5 to 7 cleanings and are NOT time-restricted. If no one cleans the Decoration, the temporary Special Reward will activate whenever it is cleaned... and there can be gaps between cleanings as well.
Elephant

Mommy Duck

Secret Agent Darryl Time-Restricted Quest and Bow Tie Collections Mission
As usual, the new time-restricted Quest includes both a traditional Quest sequence of 16 parts and a Collections Mission. The reward for the Collections Mission is another Collectable in the form of a Black Caviar Barrel which means it does not appear in the market at this point in time and can be obtained solely by completing the Collections Mission.
The first half of the traditional Quest will give you an additional Reward in the form of the Ice Rock, which is the third Material required for the Ice Base. Each step will give you 1 Ice Rock which means that you will have them all when you complete Secret Agent Darryl 8.
As usual, the second half of the Quest sequence has tasks that require access to the Island. One requires access to the Botanic Garden.
Note that two of the premium Trees that are required for the Collections Mission and as an ingredient for a Cooked Dish given as a Task in the traditional Quest sequence can be purchased as part of a special Offer now that includes two of the new Decorations that are classified as Theme-related for the current Farm Beauty Contest. Unfortunately, although the Guarana Bush needed for the Collections Mission is paired with the Fish Ice Pond Decoration, the Date Tree is not paired with the other new Theme Decoration but is sold in a separate package that gives you the Snowflake Fences that you can purchase currently in the Market. Note that you will need a Sorbus Tree as well for some Recipes included in the traditional Quest sequence.
You will need another 'collectable' in the form of the Herb Garden, initially released as the reward for another Collections Mission but now sold in the Market for 3 RC. Many of the 'Collectables' are not used often but the Herb Garden is one of those that is required again and again. You will need another product from a Collectable in the form of Coriander for a task at the very end. You will need a total of 16 Coriander or you can skip the task for 6 RC.
Strategy Suggestions
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
They are making these Missions more difficult to complete quickly even for high level players. In this particular Quest sequence, you will find Recipes that use a lot of Black Caviar, the product of the 'Collectable' Black Caviar Bush that is the Reward for completing the Collections Mission. Moreover, you need more than 1 Caviar for each Dish.
Caviar Toast: 1 Cream Cheese Bagel and 2 Black Caviar
Scallops with Caviar: 1 Dried Scallop and 3 Black Caviar
Scallops with Potato Pancakes and Caviar: 1 Potato Pancake and 1 Scallops with Caviar
In other words, you will spend a lot of RC if you skip these Dishes and you will need the second Dish in order to prepare the third. Although the Black Caviar Barrel randomly can produce up to 6 Black Caviar every three hours, it still is a LOT of Caviar that is needed. I therefore suggest that farmers complete the Collections Mission as early as possible in order to be able to start stocking the Caviar you will need.
Bow Tie Collections Mission
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Collect 70 Blue Bow Ties from Sugar Cane
Collect 50 Black Bow Ties from Rye Flour
Collect 30 Red Bow Ties from Beef Salami
Collect 10 Green Bow Ties from Guarana

This is a Collectable, which means it cannot be purchased in the Market at this point.

11 January 2016
Ice Base for January
The Ice Base cost 3000 Coins and as with all Seasonal Bases required materials that were given when farmers completed specific activities through the month. As of 29 January, it no longer is possible to earn any of the materials but you can complete your Base by paying 1 RC for each of the materials you are missing.
Although all other Bases give a Blue Box when cleaned, the Ice Base has been giving only a Purple Box. I hope this is an error that will be sorted out.
The following can be placed on the Ice Base:
Bobo Fishing on Ice
Fish Ice Pond
Snowy Owl
Bobo's Backpack
These four go together on the Base and you will see a special Animation that features Bobo, the Fish Ice Pond and the Snowy Owl. Bobo will rub his eyes, catch a fish and the Owl will awaken and leap up and down on the nest.
Other decorations that can be placed:
Ski Penguin, Snow Man, Snowman
Bobo's Fish BBQ
This can go in place of the Fish Ice Pond.
The Ski Penguin, Snowman and Snow Man can be substituted for Bobo.
Ice Swan
Ice Cat
Ice Dolphin
These go in place of the Snowy Owl. I have yet to confirm whether the Ice Dolphin still will give Ice Cubes when placed on the Base, but probably not.
In place of Bobo Bear's Backpack, you can use Bobo Bear's Guitar or his original Backpack.
I imagine that, at the end of the month, the Calendar Decoration of Fish on Ice will be able to be placed as well but this is simply my supposition.
1st Material

You will receive 2 Snow Heaps, the first material needed to build it, when you complete the current Weekly Activity.

The default price for doing so is 1 RC for the first refresh, 1 RC for the second and 2 RC for the third and final refresh of the Order Board. The highlighted Order now contains random Farm Aids instead. If you did not earn sufficient Snow Rocks, you will have to pay RC for them when ALL activities linked to the Base have ended.
3rd Material
xxxxxxxxxxx
The third material is linked to the current time-restricted Quest. You will receive 1 Ice Rock when you complete each of the first 8 parts of the 16 Part Quest.
4th Material

The fourth material is linked to fishing. You should receive a Lucky Fishing Bag whenever you catch a fish. You usually will receive 1 Snow Shovel in every 7 bags that you open.

Decorations for Bases
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
A member of my Family Farm Seaside Freyashawk Group on Facebook asked for a list of items that can be placed on the various bases so I am adding a section here for that information.
Generally speaking, with the exception of the Bird Home Bases that are interchangeable, Decorations generally are Base-specific. In other words, if a Decoration goes on one Base, you will be unable to place it on any other Base.
There are a couple of exceptions to this, however, in the form of the Snowman and Snow Man that can be placed both on the Snow Base and the Ice Base.
So far, the only Bases that are available on a permanent basis in the Market are the Bird Bases. The Bird Bases are linked to the Time Machine in the Gallery wherein the completion of two-part Missions will give a Decoration as a Reward. These Decorations can be placed on the Bird Base. So far, there are only 8 Missions and thus 8 Decorations. You can place them on one or two Bird Bases, however. A Base has a limit of four Decorations.
The Bird Base Decorations are not cleanable, but the Bird Base itself will give a Blue Box when cleaned. All other Bases so far have been seasonal in nature.
The current Animations that occur when you place specific Decorations together on a Bird Base all are linked to the Farm Bird House. The Farm Bird House when placed with the Hamster Friend allows another Hamster to exit the house to eat from the food dish while the first Hamster runs on his Wheel. When the Farm Bird House is placed with the Bird Seesaw, a second little yellow bird will exit the house to leap onto the seesaw to play with the first. When the Farm Bird House is placed with the Bird Pool, the Mini Water Pump and the Bird Ball Pool on the base, the Blue Bird will float on a ball in the Bird Pool, drink from the water in the Mini Water Pump, fly up to use the pump to add more water, then fall asleep to fall off the base to land in the Bird Ball Pool with flying feathers all round.
Halloween Base
xxxxxxxxxxxxx
The Halloween Base was the first of the seasonal Bases. It no longer can be purchased in the Market and all activities that gave Materials have expired. You can complete the Base if you have it by purchasing the materials you lack using RC.
The following can be placed on the Halloween Stage (Base): Skeleton Rockstar Frontman, Skeleton Rockstar Diva, Stereo Coffin, Pumpkin Tower and the Ghost Broom. As always, there is a limit of four items that can be placed. The Pumpkin Tower and the Ghost Broom occupy the same position on the Stage, so you have to choose between them. The Pumpkin Light, Wind Chimes, Witch Legs and the Shovel now can be placed on this Base as well. The Flower Pot now can be placed on the Hallowe'en Stage in the position of the Pumpkin Tower et al.
Thanksgiving Base
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
The Thanksgiving Base incorporated more choices from Decorations available in the Market. These included the Woodpile and the Mushrooms and the Hay. Other items that can be placed on the Base are the Thanksgiving Turkey, the Colourful Tent, the Indian Hat, the Harvest Hat and the Hedgehog. The Woodpile occupies the same position as the Indian Hat and Harvest Hat and the Mushrooms occupy the same position as the Hedgehog as does the Lacquer Horn and the Cornucopia. The Haystack can go in the position of the Indian Hat.
Once again, although one no longer can purchase the Thanksgiving Base in the Market, farmers who were unable to complete the activities associated with the materials can purchase any remaining materials needed for RC.
Snow Base (Christmas)
xxxxxxxxxxxxx
The following should be able to go on the Snow Base: Tree Reindeer, ALL Snowmen including Snowman, Snow Man, Snow Magician, Bunny Snow Girl, ALL Snow Globes including Snow Globe and Christmas Crystal Ball, Small Snowflake Fence and the Snow Tree Arch . Other arches that initially could not be placed now can, including Tree Arch, Autumn Arch, Welcome Arch, Balloon Door and Welcome Sign, Christmas Wreath Fence and Candle Stand. All of these now can be placed. Note that the default position for the Tree Arch will not allow it to be placed on the base. You must turn it first and then the jigsaw icon will be available to allow placement.
There is a new Decoration that players will receive after 5 Ice Cream Friendship Flowers have been crossbred. It is the Ice Queen, with a Charm value of 7. It is a stackable and cleanable Decoration and can be placed on the Snow Base in the position of the Bunny Snow Girl.
Ice Base:
xxxxxxx
Bobo Fishing on Ice, Fish Ice Pond, Snowy Owl, Bobo's Backpack, Ski Penguin, Ice Swan, Ice Cat, Ice Dolphin. The Ski Penguin can be substituted for Bobo and the Ice Swan, Ice Cat and Ice Dolphin substituted for the Snowy Owl.. Bobo's Fish BBQ now can go on the Base in the position of the Fish Ice Pond. Thus, he can first catch the fish and then grill it. Bobo Bear's Guitar can go in place of Bobo Bear's Backpack as can his original Backpack.
Although all other Bases give a Blue Box when cleaned, the Ice Base has been giving only a Purple Box. I hope this is an error that will be sorted out.
The following can be placed on the Ice Base:
Bobo Fishing on Ice
Fish Ice Pond

The Ice Base now can be completed and registered. The following can be placed on it:
s of 24 January, it should be possible to complete your Ice Base if you perform the current 'Weekly Activity' and sufficient fishing to obtain a total of 70 Lucky Bags. There evidently is a problem on Android with respect to placing Decoraitons on it at present, but no problem with Kindle. The following Decorations can be placed:
Bobo Fishing on Ice
Fish Ice Pond
Snowy Owl
Bobo's Backpack
These four go together on the Base and you will see a special Animation that features Bobo, the Fish Ice Pond and the Snowy Owl. Bobo will rub his eyes, catch a fish and the Owl will awaken and leap up and down on the nest.
Other decorations that can be placed:
Ski Penguin
The Ski Penguin can be substituted for Bobo.
I imagine that, at the end of the month, the Calendar Decoration of Fish in Ice will be able to be placed as well but this is simply my supposition.
Please remember that Charm and Votes are two very different aspects of the game and of any Farm Beauty Contest. The Charm value of a Decoration may be quite different from the number of Votes it will elicit for 'Theme'. Moreover, there are Cleanable Decorations and non-Cleanable Decorations, both of which can be theme-related. For example, the Polar Bear on Igloo can be cleaned but the Ic Cat cannot be cleaned. Both are part of the theme for this current Contest. Then there are theme items that are not even Decorations such as the Ice Dolphin which actually is a 'Collectable' and the Ice Tree which is a Tree. Although both are Theme items that elicit extra Votes from the 3 Characters who value Theme, neither have any Charm value nor can they be cleaned obviously.
Basic Rules of Contest
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
The basic rules of the Farm Beauty Contest do not vary from contest to contest but the number of Votes that each Character gives has changed with the latest update. You now can access the Screenshot Menu, tap on any Character and see precisely how many Votes you earned today for each of the four aspects that Character favours. Duplicate items do not increase Votes at all and once you have received the maximum of 16 to 24 Votes for a category with a Character, placing new items that fall within the category will not change the total either.
Maximum Character Votes
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
To obtain the maximum from each Character as far as the Crops, Animals, Machines and Trees are concerned, this is the total you need to place before taking a photograph:
12 different Crops
21 different Trees
13 different Machines
10 different Animals
As far a 'high level' is concerned, you need to be at Level 160 to have maximum votes for THAT, so most of us fail there... as far as Expansions are concerned, you do not need the maximum farm expansion to get the maximum Vote for that. In fact, even if you do not have the 20 x 20 Expansion, you will get maximum votes for your expansion of your farm.
Note here that Beehives and Butterfly Houses as well as the Bat House are Animals for this purpose.
What Characters Value
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
The Characters gave their Votes for the following:
First of all, the idea that every change will be worth 1 Point is misleading. Originally, the developers wanted to keep it all a mystery. Now each category is given a total:
Felicia:
Charm Points: 24
Theme Items: 24
Animals: 16
Expansions: 16
Dad:
High Level: 16
Expansions: 16
Machines: 16
Theme Items: 24
Darryl:
Charm Points: 24
Theme Items: 24
Large variety of Crops (used to be Trees): 16
Gallery Registration: 16
Grandma:
High Level: 16
Charm Points: 24
Trees: 16
Gallery Registration: 16
How Character Votes Work
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Now, it is important to remember that 'theme-related Decorations only account for a percentage of the Votes given by Felicia, Darryl and Dad. I believe that once you achieve the total that is the maximum those Characters can give to you for theme, you will not be able to earn any more Votes from them for THAT, irrespective of the number of Theme Decorations that you purchase and place. Bear this in mind when you are tempted to go mad in the upcoming sales. Furthermore, I believe that you must purchase the NEW Theme Decorations in order to achieve the maximum of 24 Votes for Theme from each of the three Characters. Harvest Moon FDC currently has ALL Theme Decorations apart from those that have not been released yet but only has 23 out of 24 Votes for Theme from each of the three Characters.
As for Charm Points, some indication of the maximum total needed for Character Votes can be seen with respect to Rosewood Farm where 1558 Charm gave 23 out of 24 for Charm. Today added Decorations to give 1578 Charm Points and will see if that allows the final Vote to be given for Charm. In fact, it did.
Duplicate items count only towards total Charm Points and will not add to the Votes that you receive from any of the four Characters.
Although there is a 'ceiling' to the number of Votes you can earn from the three Characters for Theme or Charm, there is no limit to the possible Charm Point total for global ratings. How does this benefit you? For the Characters who value Charm, once again, you can achieve only a total of 24 Votes each day for that aspect of your Farm from those Characters... once you achieve that, additional Charm points will not be considered by the Characters. After that total is reached, additional Charm only benefits as far as your global rating is concerned. It does not affect your Votes from Neighbours. Each Farmer has 3 Votes per day to give to Neighbours.
The Votes from the four Characters dropped off once the final Reward was received in former Contests but this one is different. Even after receiving the Avatar Reward, you will continue to obtain Votes from the Characters.
Voting for my Farms
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Of course, I would be thrilled if farmers who used my site would be willing to send their Votes to Harvest Moon or Rosewood Farms. Winning the Contest may be hopeless but I would love to be able to obtain the special Decoration and the Avatar if possible. I would like to thank every one who voted for me again. As I wrote previously, I do not make any money with my site. I do not have any adverts on it and do not promote anything other than the game itself. I write the guide because I always find a good guide useful when playing a game and I believe other players feel the same, so if you wish to give me anything, please give your Votes! To do this, tap on the FINAL icon for 'My Neighbours' and then 'Visit' Harvest Moon FDC or Rosewood. Once at the farm, you can choose to Vote once for it or use all three Votes in quick succession. That is how the Voting procedure works. On the left you will see 'My Snapshot' menu where you interact with your own options to post a new secreenshot, collect your Rewards as well as the Votes you are given each day from Characters and Neighbours. On the right you will see 'Vote for Others'. Tap on the 'Vote for Others' and you will be given three choices: Random Pick, Great Farmers and My Neighbours. I personally think 'My Neighbours' is the only really fair option. You then will be taken to a list of your Neighbours who have entered the Contest. You have to choose to 'Visit' one in order to be able to vote and you can Vote up to three times either for one farm or for different farms.
Voting for Items
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
There is an option to vote for any Item, whether it is a Crop, Tree, Machine, Animal or Decoration on a Neighbour's Farm when you give your Vote for the Contest. On both Harvest Moon FDC and Rosewood, there are Iris Flowers. Please do 'Like' the Iris. I am hoping this one day will persuade the developers to return it to the Market as a permanent Crop. On Harvest Moon FDC, there is one Love Rose and one Primrose as well. Please 'Like' them if you can!
How to Vote
xxxxxxxxxxx
For farmers who are participating in the Contest for the first time, a brief set of instructions on voting:
First either tap on the little gold trophy on the top right of your screen or go to your Menu and tap on the Farm Beauty Contest icon there. You will be taken to the general Farm Beauty Contest Menu.
Your Photograph
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
According to Support, your current Photograph or Screenshot is the basis for the Votes of the four Characters each day. You cannot participate in the Contest until you submit a Photograph. You can change your Photograph once each day, but many players do not do so unless they have changed something on their farms to obtain more Votes either from the Characters or to achieve a better global rating by increasing Charm Points.
To take a new Screenshot, access the General Farm Beauty Contest Menu.Tap on 'My Screenshot' and then tap on the small icon of My Screenshot that appears in the top left corner. Now you will see options below to 'Re-Take or to 'Check'. You will see an option to write a new message to visitors and potential Voters as well. Tap on Re-Take when your Farm is at its best and a new Screenshot will be submitted. To write a new message, tap on the script box and you will have the option to change it and then 'Save' it.
When you access the Farm Beauty Contest menu and then tap on My Snapshot, you should see a countdown of how much time remains until the next Character Votes are logged for you to collect.
Boosting Character Votes
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Now, how can you boost the Votes of the four Characters even if your Charm totals are low and you cannot afford to buy Theme Decorations with real Cash?
First of all, each of the four Characters bases his/her Votes on different aspects of your Farm as you can see from the list of farming aspects that each favours.. As shown in the list of Theme Decorations, there are three Characters who give Votes for the Theme. Votes are given by different Characters, however, for a wide variety of Crops, for Trees, for Animals and for Machines. Gallery Registration will give you Votes with two Characters. Expansions count as well...
So what I suggest to every Farmer is to make certain that you have registered as many items on your Farm as possible before the Contest begins and if you cannot complete this task prior to the start, keep registering your Items until they all have been added to the Gallery. This cannot give you more than a total of 16 Votes daily but if you do qualify for the maximum number of Votes for Gallery from the two Characters that value this aspect of Farming, you will be in a good position.
Expansions give Votes as well so make certain that you have completed as many Farm expansions as possible on your original Farm. Actually, you can get the maximum of 16 Votes for Expansions even without the last farm expansion.
It is not mere ownership of items that gives Votes but PLACEMENT of them on your Farm. When the Contest begins, place a good balance of Animals and Machines on your Farm and plant a variety of Crops as well as making certain that you have as many different types of Trees as possible. Again, each of these aspects of farming will not give more than a total of 16 to 24 of the Votes of the Character or Characters who value them. As indicated, each Character has four different categories of farming upon which his or her Votes are based.
The one aspect of Character votes that is difficult to obtain is the maximum given for 'high Levels'. It appears that one would have to be at Level 160 in order to obtain the maximum number of Character Votes for high level. At Level 90, you obtain only 9 Votes!
As previously discussed, Charm is valued by some of the Characters but piling Decorations on your Farm is pointless as there is a ceiling to the number of Votes given by the Characters for your Charm. I therefore would recommend that farmers who cannot place in the top 50 globally focus more on creating a balanced Farm with a good mixture of Crops, Trees, Animals and Machines than attempting to load your Farm with duplicate Decorations or indeed Decorations that are not cleanable once you have exhausted your normal stock of Theme Decorations and a certain number of Charm points. The members of my Group on Facebook, Family Farm Seaside Freyashawk and I experimented with this during the last Contest to see how Votes would be affected. It really did not require too many Decorations to achieve the maximum number of Votes from a Character who valued either Charm or Theme... beyond that, one was using space on the farm that would be better allocated to ANOTHER aspect of farming that would garner Votes from a Character.
Theme-related Decorations only add to 'Theme' Votes from a Character ONCE.
Now, this is how low level Farmers can benefit from full participation in the Contest. There is a list of Rewards given for achieving specific Vote totals. Every couple hundred Votes or so, you will receive a specific Reward. Most of them consist of Farm Aids, Coins and Purple Mystrons but there is a Decoration Reward and at the very top of the list, two Rewards that consist of RC, the final one being paired with a special Avatar. In the current Contest, the Decoration is a beautiful Winter Fence that no doubt can be placed on the Christmas Base when the Base is complete. The Decoration really is more significant than the Avatar Reward for most farmers.
Your Votes from the four Characters DO make a difference, therefore, even if you cannot achieve huge totals of Votes or place globally. You can achieve a number of the Rewards on the list if you maintain a balanced Farm.
NONE of this will count, however, if you do not take photos of your Farm. The Votes of the four Characters are determined by your CURRENT PHOTO in the Contest. In other words, give your Farm the greatest advantages in terms of Crops, Trees, Animals and Machines as well as Decorations, take your photograph and THEN AND ONLY THEN store items or do whatever is necessary for REAL work on your Farm. A new time-restricted Mission should be released next Friday if everything goes according to the regular schedule. You may need to store items in order to produce products and so on... so start your day by registering for the Farm Beauty Contest by taking a photo after you have made your Farm as profitable, vote-wise as possible. You then will be free to get on with the business of real farming.

Happy New Year Time-Restricted Quest and Memory Jar Collections Mission
The New Year traditionally is a time of endings and new beginnings. In many cultures, this is defined by rituals of purification (sweeping the house and sending dirt and dust out the door), special foods and objects that represent prosperity (lentils are mentioned in the course of the traditional Quest sequence as a symbol of wealth as they look like coins) and 'resolutions' or promises of future behaviour. The 'Memory Jars' in the Collections Mission represents the 'New Year Resolution' concept. This particular Quest is interesting because it involves all four Characters, one after the other.
Wishing all farmers a very Happy New Year! May you enjoy good health, prosperity and joy throughout the coming year! Thanks to your support and votes, Harvest Moon FDC ranked ninth globally in the last Farm Beauty Contest and I actually received one of the Trophies. A temporary Trophy but even so, quite a thrill... so grateful to you for your Votes and hope you will consider voting for me in the next Contest as well.
A new time-restricted Quest has been released on New Year's Eve. Odd timing, but in any case, it combines the usual Collections Mission with a traditional Quest sequence.
