Since 14 March, I had ongoing problems when I tried to load Family Farm Seaside. On 15 March, the game loaded briefly, allowing me to keep my consecutive log ins that had lasted for almost 300 days. Shortly thereafter, however, the game failed to load and, until 21 March, never loaded again.
I am extremely grateful to the Support Team for Family Farm Seaside. They stayed with my case, endured my desperate emails and responded and continued to offer suggestions until finally, my game loaded again.
I play Seaside on an IPad2 and I tried many different actions without any success. It may be helpful, however, to list these in case they help other players.
If you ever have issues that cannot be solved through any of the following methods, Support will help you.
CLOSING ALL OTHER APPS
Hit the Home Button twice to display all open Apps, then slide your finger from bottom to top to 'wipe' each from the screen. This action should close each open App one by one. When all have been closed, power off the IPad and then turn it on again. If you are fortunate, this will solve any issues with your game.
GAME CENTRE
Here is a series of steps for solving loading issues that was sent to me by the developers:
1. Log out of the Game Centre
2. Close all Apps on your device
3. Shut down and then restart your device
4. Log into the Game Centre
5 Open the game FROM the Game Centre
I do not have the ability to open the game FROM the Game Centre but I found out how to log in and out of the Game Centre after my game failed to load again. Basically, it is a matter of going to the Game Centre icon in your Settings and not the icon that is on the Home Screen. You should have the ability to log out and log in again by entering your password when it is requested.
There does appear to be an ongoing problem between the Game Centre and Family Farm Seaside. When my game failed to load again, I found that I was unable to load the 'Games' screen in the Game Centre as well. It simply hung there as though it were 'working' on something, but never loading either.
REINSTALLING THE GAME
You can delete the app for Family Farm Seaside and then reinstall it without losing any progress in the game. When you go to your Home Screen, you should see all your Apps on the screen in the form of little square icons. Find the one for Family Farm Seaside and hold down your finger until it begins to shake and a little 'x' is displayed in the corner. You then should see a prompt asking if you wish to delete the App. Do so, then go to the App Store and find it there to reinstall it. Before you reinstall the App, power off the IPad and then turn it back on. Reinstalling an App can solve some issues.
INTERNET CONNECTION
If you have more than one internet connection, this can cause loading issues. Disable ALL Internet Connections but one and then power off and power back on before attempting to load the game again.
More than one internet connection should not cause problems ordinarily with games, but at this point in time, it can affect Family Farm Seaside. The developers have assured me that they are working on a fix for this bug.
RESETTING THE IPAD
One of the more comprehensive and drastic methods of solving issues is to reset the IPad completely. You do this as follows:
First close all open Apps by hitting the Home Button twice. You will see all Open Apps in windows on the Home Screen. Swipe each from bottom to top to remove it, thus closing it. Once all are closed, hold down the Home Button WITH the Sleep/Wake (Power Off/On) Button until the Apple Logo appears on the screen, then let go of the Buttons.
You then may be able to power off the tablet and then power on again and find that the issue has been solved.
Otherwise, you may see a plug displayed on your screen as well as an ITunes logo. This means that you need to connect your IPad to your laptop or computer to sync it with ITunes, thereby resetting it completely.
Note that I am not an expert in technical matters. I simply am sharing some of the potential solutions to loading issues that were sent to me.

New Time-Restricted Nyepi Mission
A time-limited dual Quest has been released in Family Farm Seaside today. I had seen announcements of it during the past couple of days when I was unable to load my farm. Almost 300 days of consecutive log-ins without ever missing a day lost... In any case, much to my delight, my Farm loaded today after I made some changes to my tablet and internet connection ability. God willing, it will continue to load. In any case, here is the information about the new Missions.
The first as usual is a Collections Mission with random collection of specific colours of Fans from specified Crops, Trees Animals and Machines. These are as follows:
70 Green Balinese Fans from Chardonnay Crop
50 Blue Balinese Fans from Peacock Feathers
30 Pink Balinese Fans from Love Cakes (Cake Machine)
10 Yellow Balinese Fans from Lemon Trees
The two Prizes for completing the Collections Mission are a Jackfruit Tree and a Balinese Gateway
The second Quest sequence is a traditional one and is as follows:

Mission Strategies
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Although it is best to focus first on the Collections Mission as you will need the two Prizes in order to progress past Nyepi VI in the traditional Quest, there is no harm in working on them together. If you look at all the requirements for these Quests, you will see that you need an incredible quantity of Rice. Rice is fed to the Turkey to produce Turkey (meat) which is used in more than one of the Recipes you must prepare in order to complete the Nyepi Quest. Rice is fed to the Peacock to produce the Peacock Feathers needed for the Blue Balinese Fans in the Collections Mission. Grow Rice, Rice and more Rice and if you have cleanable Decorations, place them on your Farm in order to obtain more Power randomly from the Gift Bags.
Another Item that is needed in some quantity for the Nyepi Quest is Coconut. It is one of the main ingredients in Balinese Recipes so it is not surprising that it features in this Quest sequence. You will need Cane to make Sugar as well as for use in one of the Quest Recipes.
Coconut in this Quest is mainly required in the form of Coconut Milk. This is a Recipe that can be made in advance. Even with the new Cleaning Gift Bag option that delivers 1 Power to Farmers randomly, lack of sufficient Power to complete a stage in a time-restricted Quest can be a problem. One therefore should make as many Ingredient Recipes as possible BEFORE one needs them. Obviously you cannot make a required Dish in advance but you can make the Dishes that constitute the Ingredients for those Quest Dishes.
WARNING ABOUT QUEST PRODUCTS
In this Quest, you are well advised NOT to sell any of the Crops or Kitchen Dishes that you make. They will be needed at some point during the Quest. In some cases, you will find that the Dish you made in one step is not needed in the step that immediately follows but much later. This probably is a matter of good planning on the part of the developers to allow Power to be restored to the Kitchen.
For example, 20 Betutu Chicken and 30 Satay must be made in Part IV of the Nyepi Quest. In Part IV, the final step of the Quest, you will be required to produce 10 Balinese Rice and 20 Betutu Chicken Rice. One of the ingredients in Balinese Rice is Satay. One of the ingredients in Betutu Chicken Rice is Betutu Chicken. The other ingredient in each case is another Dish. The second Ingredient can be made in advance in order to stagger the use of Power.
For Balinese Rice, you will need the Satay and Jackfruit Curry. Jackfruit Curry requires Jackfruit and Coconut Milk. If you have your Jackfruit Tree, however, it may be best to wait until Part VIII to harvest the number of Jackfruits needed for 10 Balinese Rice as you will need to harvest 8 for this step in the Quest. Coconut Milk, however, should be made in advance. It requires a Coconut and 2 Sugar to produce.
For Betutu Chicken Rice, you will need Coconut Milk as well, as it is an Ingredient in Sticky Rice, which is the other Ingredient in the Recipe. In other words, you will need a total of 30 Coconut Milk to satisfy the requirements of both Dishes made in the final step in the Quest.
BATCH PRODUCTION
There was a time when Batch Production was less than practical to some extent unless the Player were willing to spend RC on OP. It was very difficult to earn sufficient OP to be able to consider the use of Batch Production except in special circumstances. Now, however, with a number of recent options that include the OP Sheep (a reward for completing Daily Orders) and Cleaning Gift Bags (often containing 3 OP), a Player can use Batch Production regularly. Even so, OP is not unlimited and I myself prefer to save my OP for use during time-restricted Quests such as this one.
My own strategy where Machine production is concerned is to have at least two of all Machines and to split the Quest requirement between Batch Production and manual production. I set one Machine to Batch Production for about half the total amount of product required for the Quest. The other half I produce manually.
What is nice about Batch Production is that one can organise it in advance of the Quest and simply refrain from collecting it until the Mission or Quest requires it. This is similar to the new Machine House option in the original Family Farm.
NEW KITCHEN RECIPES

Balinese Rice: 941 Coins, 1 XP

Sticky Rice requires Rice x 2, Coconut Milk (Coconut, Sugar x 2)

Ingredients: Turkey, Spice x 2

Ingredients: Coconut Rice, Betatu Chicken
TRADITIONS OF NYEPI
Nyepi is the Balinese New Year, the Day of Silence that falls on the day that follows the dark moon of the Spring Equinox and begins a new Year of the Saka Hindu era that began in 78 A.D.
The Balinese have three different calendars. They follow the Gregorian Calendar for official business, but other than that, they have the Pawukon, from the word 'Wuku' meaning week and the Sasih, from the word that means month. Wuku consists of thirty items beginning with Sinta, the first Wuku, and ending with Watugunung, the last Wuku. The Pawukon is a 210 day ritual calendar brought from Java in the 14th century and consists of a complex cycle of numerological conjunctions providing the basic schedule for ritual activities on Bali. Sashi is a parallel system that originated in India, a lunar calendar that begins with the Vernal Equinox and is equally important in Balinese Culture in terms of marking the days when respect is to be paid to the gods.
Nyepi is a day that, like most of the New Year Days in the various cultures of the world, is intended to keep Nature in balance. It is based on a tale of King Kanista of India and the year when he was chosen to rule. The King was known for his tolerance of other faiths, including Hinduism and Buddhism. Aji Saka performed the Dharma Yatra, the missionary tour to promote and spread Hinduism in that era and introduced the Saka year to Indonesia.
The Nyepi Festival consists of a number of different ritual days:
Melasti, Mekiyis or Melis; This occurs three days before Nyepi and is devoted to the cleansing of the pratima, arca or pralingga, a ritual Statue. Symbols that are intended to concentrate the mind to bring closeness to God are used. The ceremony is aimed at the cleansing of ALL of Nature and takes the Amerta, the source of Eternal Life, from the ocean or other water resources. On this day, the effigies of all the Gods are taken from the village temples to the river in long and colourful ceremonies. They then are bathed ritually by the Neptune of the Balinese God, the God Baruna, before being taken back to their homes in their shrines.
Tawur Kesanga: This occurs on the day before Nyepi and consists of an exorcism ceremony. All the villages of Bali hold a ceremony on this day at the major crossroads, considered to be the meeting place of Demons in most cultures of the world. Ogoh-ogoh, fantastic monsters or evil spirits or Butha Kala made of bamboo are brought to the crossroads for carnival activities. The Ogoh-ogoh monsters are symbols of the evil spirits that surround our environment. The carnivals are held throughout Bali after the setting of the sun.
Bleganjur, a type of Balinese gamelan music, accompanies the processions which are illuminated by torches. The frightening statues are taken from classical Balinese lore and include giants with fangs, bulging eyes and unkempt hair. These processions usually are organised by the Seka Teruna, the youth organisation of Banjar. Tawur Kesanga is performed by every level of society, within private homes as well as outside. In the evening, the Hindus celebrating Ngerupuk begin to make noise and light burning torches to set fire to the Ogoh-ogoh in order to destroy the Bhuta Kala or evil spirits.
Nyepi: Nyepi Day is the Day of Silence. Every street is quiet. Pecalangs, traditional Balinese security, control street security and maintain the peace. On this 'Day of Silence', no cars are allowed upon the roads. People are expected to stay at home and observe a period of meditation and quiet. Television, radios and computer activity are not encouraged. It is a day upon which all frantic activity should cease, a day upon which the slate of the old year is wiped clean, to prepare for a new Year.
Ngembak Geni: The day after Nyepi is a day upon which Hindus forgive one another and perform the Dharma Canthi. This includes the recitation or reading of ancient scripts of songs with their lyrics known as Sloka, Kekidung and Kekawin as well as others.
New Year rituais in every culture tend to include certain ritual acts. A cleansing ritual is one. Noise that frightens away demons is another. Nyepi has these elements as well.
The first as usual is a Collections Mission with random collection of specific colours of Fans from specified Crops, Trees Animals and Machines. These are as follows:
70 Green Balinese Fans from Chardonnay Crop

A Dragon's Legend Time-Restricted Quests
A Dragon's Legend
This Quest sequence is based upon the legend of the Wawel Dragon, an old Polish tale that is connected with the founding of the city of Krakow. A statue of the Wawel Dragon, belching real flames, is one of the attractions of modern Krakow. It stands at the entrance to the Dragon's Den, a natural cave in Wawel Hill.
As usual, the time-restricted Quest is a double-pronged Mission. Placing the Dragon's Cave allows the Farmer to collect Crowns from 'all kinds of crops, trees, animals and machines'.
You can upgrade the Dragon's Cave using Torches and Stalagmites. Torches can be requested from Neighbours. Stalagmites can be redeemed with Crowns. The upgrade to Level 5 allows double collection of Crowns randomly from any item. It is only when you wish to upgrade from Level 4 to Level 5 that you will be required to spend 5 RC on a Dragon Egg as well as using 10 Torches and 5 Stalagmites. In other words, for all other upgrades, the materials can be obtained either from Neighbour Requests or by redeeming Crowns for Stalagmites.
The Four ordinary Prizes that can be redeemed with Crowns are:
Stalagmites: Used to upgrade the Dragon's Cave
These cost 1 Crown, irrespective of how many you redeem.
Wawal Dragon: a Total of 5, one of which must be placed on your Farm to complete a sequence in the Quest
Green Mystron
Can be used in the Mystery Shop as currency
A total of 100 can be redeemed
30 OP
A Total of 30 can be redeemed
You must redeem one of each Prize to unlock the final Prize in the form of a Wild Rose Tree which will cost 150 Crowns. The Wild Rose Tree produces Wild Rose Fruits that are needed to complete one of the sequences in the Quest
The second element is a traditional sequence of Quests in the form of 'A Dragon's Legend'.

Strategies for Success
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
The time-limited Quest runs for a total of 11 Days, irrespective of the day when you begin the first step in the sequence. You therefore should begin as soon as possible. The first priority as always is to complete the Collections Quest. Time-restricted Collections Quests fall into two different categories. In the first, you can collect a special item from ANY Crop, Tree, Animal or Machine randomly. In the second, you can collect four different variations of a single item randomly from specific Crops, Animals, Trees or Machines. You must obtain a specific number of each of the four variations. The Crowns Collection Quest falls into the first category which is easier to achieve than the second.
The final Reward or Rewards in any Collection Quest usually are required to complete one or more steps in the traditional sequence of Quests. This one is no exception. You will need the Wild Rose Bush in order to harvest Wild Rose Fruit from it in Part V of 'A Dragon's Legend'. The Wild Rose Bush actually can be purchased from the Market for 8 RC as well as being the final Reward that must be unlocked in the Dragon Cave by obtaining one of each of the four initial prizes and then collecting a total of 150 Crowns to redeem the Tree itself. You therefore can opt to buy the Tree or wait until you have unlocked it, collected 150 Crowns to redeem it from the Dragon Cave. The other item required in the Quest sequence is a Wawel Dragon. This is one of the initial four Prizes in the Dragon Cave.
If you do not wish to spend RC on this Quest combination, your priority should be to collect Crowns as you will not be able to continue past Part IV until you redeem the Wild Rose Bush. Even while you are focusing on this aspect of the Quest, however, you can make the traditional sequence easier by cooking Dishes that are ingredients for required Dishes. Among these are Soft Dough, Cake Flour, Butter, Batter and Cottage Cheese. Remember always that you have a total of 30 Power in the Kitchen. You can augment this from Gift Cleaning Bags that contain 1 Power each or purchase more Power in the Market, but it is best to plan ahead and make all possible ingredients before they are needed.
There are other 'ingredients' that are produced by Machines or Animals. These include Sugar, Wheat Bread, Milk and Buffalo Milk. Remember that you can collect Crowns randomly from ANY Animal or Machine as well as Crops and Trees. Setting out Machines to produce needed ingredients therefore has a subsidiary benefit in aiding the completion of your Collections Quest.

The Original Legend of the Wawel Dragon
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
The tale of the Wawel Dragon is very much a part of the story of the founding of the city of Krakow in Poland. Wawel is the site of Wawel Castle at a bend in the Vistula River. Long ago, during the reign of King Krak, for whom the city of Krakow is named, a fearsome dragon terrorised the land. Like most of his kind, he belched flames that destroyed crops and trees. His enormous appetite for meat decimated the livestock. His presence was a terrible curse and the King at last offered the hand of his daughter to the man who could rid the land of the beast.
Many brave warriors and knights responded to the summons but all failed and lost their lives to the dragon. Finally, a young shoemaker appeared. He had neither armour nor weapons but only the tools of his trade in the form of a needle and twine. The people were disposed to mock him but he quietly asked for a lambskin, some sulpher, pitch and mustard seed.
When he received the items he had requested, he filled the lambskin with the sulpher, pitch and mustard seed. With consummate dexterity, he then sewed it together so that it resembled a live lamb. He placed it on the bank of the river, then waited for the arrival of the dragon.
The dragon lurched out of a cave in the hill, breathing fire. The rumbling of his stomach sounded like thunder. He had slept through the day and was famished. As soon as he spied the lamb on the bank of the river, he gobbled it whole. Much to his distress, he found that the meal did not agree with him. He went to the river to drink, hoping that the water would calm his aching belly. Instead, filled with the mixture of sulpher, pitch, mustard seed and water, the dragon exploded.
The young cobbler became the hero of the land and King Krak honoured his promise to give his daughter's hand to the lad in marriage. The farmers no longer feared for their crops, trees and livestock and the wedding feast lasted for many a night and a day. My own great-great-great-great-great grandmother danced at the wedding and wore out a dozen pairs of dancing slippers.

Daily Order Tasks
The Daily Orders are found on an Order Board on your Farm. Access it daily to find three randomly generated Orders that can consist of Crops, Animal Products, Machine Products, Cooked Dishes from the Kitchen or Smoked Seafood.
At first, I believed that filling the Orders would be counterproductive as it reduced my Stock. As my own Levels increased, however, I discovered I could maintain sufficient Stock for Missions and other needs while still filling the Daily Orders. Every player must judge for himself/herself but my own opinon would be that, as long as you have not completed ALL the ordinary Quests/Missions that are available to every Farmer, it would be a mistake to fill too many Daily Orders. There is a point, however, when a Farmer has completed all the ordinary Quests/Missions. I define 'ordinary' as those Quests that have no time restrictions. When this occurs and there are no longer any Quests to be completed, it is time to begin to take the Daily Orders seriously.
I only have one Farm, unlike some players and therefore cannot know whether or not every player receives the same orders in the Daily Order Quest. Officially, it is stated that the Daily Orders are generated randomly. I have noticed, however, that the same tasks appear again and again and therefore felt that it might be useful to write them down for future reference and to aid other players in preparing the items required in advance.
Here are some of the Daily Orders I have received. They appear in groups of three. If you complete all three, you receive a bonus.
My own Level is 55. I believe this determines the Items that are required from me.

If you study the list, you will see that it is not the complete group of three that appears again and again, but the individual tasks. For example, you may find Almond Spread is required as a Recipe again and again and that Goose Feathers are another common task.
It is possible that the Orders you receive will be based on your Level of experience in the game. That would make sense, as it would be a little unfair to expect players to fill orders that consist of items they have not been able to unlock yet. Nonetheless, I hope this page will be useful.
Smoked Fish of various types are included often in the Daily Orders. As these take a fair amunt of time to produce, it is a good idea to keep some of each type in your Barn for possible future use. Many Seafood Dishes are required. The Ingredients usually include items produced in the Seafood House. Again, it is a good idea to produce as many items as possible in advance.
Tips about Growing Crops for Daily Orders:
You will see the same Crops again and again in the Daily Orders List, either as Crops to be sold in their raw form, as Ingredients in Recipes or as food for an Animal who creates a Product in the List. The following are commonly needed:
Red Bell Pepper: Red Bell Pepper takes 14 hours to mature. It often is found in the Daily Orders as a Crop that is needed in its raw form.
Pumpkin: Pumpkin takes 15 hours to mature. It is found in the Daily Orders in its raw form.
Peanut: Peanut takes 18 hours to mature. It is found in the Daily Orders in its raw form.
Bean: Bean takes 14 hours to mature. You need to feed this to a Deer to produce Venison Steaks
Rice takes 14 hours to mature. it is found as an Ingredient in many of the Recipes required for the Daily Orders. It is fed to a Turkey as well to produce Turkey meat.
Carrot: Carrot takes 8 Hours to mature. You need to feed this to a Horse to produce Horse Hair and to an Angora Rabbit to produce Angora Hair.
You will see a large number of Seafood items in the Daily Orders List, usually either as Smoked Fish of one sort of another or as an Ingredient in a Recipe. Smoked Fish requires a Smoke House. To produce many of the seafood ingredients that are not smoked, you will need a Seafood House. That is where Seaweed is transformed into Brined Seaweed, for example or where Crab Roe can be produced. Fishing is a random business at best. If you intend to fill all the Daily Orders, you should fish regularly in order to make certain you have all possible ingredients that may be required.
Once upon a time, the OP Sheep, a mechanical Sheep that delivered OP every day for a number of days, was the final Reward. Now the Reward List has been extended considerably. Rewards include Fertilisers, Watering Cans, Rain, Thunderstorms, Rainbow Rain, Power and Gasoline as well as surprise (wrapped Gifts) Rewards.
Matryoshka Dolls Maslenitsa Time-Restricted Quests
A new double Quest has appeared in Family Farm Seaside. The first element involves the collection of four different colours of Matryoshka Dolls as follows:
70 Red Matrioshka Dolls from Red Roses
50 Yellow Matrioshka Dolls from Orange Juice
30 Blue Matrioshka Dolls from Blueberry Jam
10 Pink Matrioshka Dolls from the Sakura Tree
The final Rewards are a Matrioshka Doll and a Sorbus Tree. The Matrioshka Doll is a decoration that will yield a Purple Gift Cleaning Bag when cleaned.
In tandem with the Collections Mission is a traditional Quest sequence as follows:

N.B. Sadly, the end of the Quest story is counterproductive. However beautiful the Maslenitsa is, she must be burned or the effects of Winter (Death in ancient terms) will not end! You cannot simply make her into a Scarecrow... Mind you, I myself would be loathe to burn a beautiful straw figure. Furthermore, I think it is wonderful the the developers of Family Farm Seaside are introducing Players to all sorts of international customs, festivals and Recipes. It is one of the reasons I like this game so much.

Strategies for Completing these Quests

If you like to prepare in advance, you will notice that an enormous quantity of Blueberries will be required to complete both the Collection Mission and the Quest sequence. Blueberry Jam is featured in both. Fortunately, Blueberries are a short-term Crop, requiring only three hours to mature. Furthermore, they are one of the Items on the Free Gifts List, so if you wish to collect sufficient Blueberries for the Blueberry Jam, you may wish to request some Blueberries from your Neighbours as well as growing them.
It is best to focus on the Collections Mission first as you will need the Final Rewards in the form of the Sorbus Tree and the Matrioshka Doll in order to complete the traditional Quest sequence. Part V of Maslenitsa requires that you place the Sorbus Tree on your Farm. Part VI requires the placement of the darling Matrioshka Doll.
The amount of Power that you are given is 30, which means that it can be very helpful to make 'basic' Recipes well in advance. Whenever there are no ongoing Quests, I try to make Cake Flour, Batter and Soft Dough on a regular basis. You will need all three in the Maslenitsa Quest sequence. Milk is an ingredient in a number of Basic Recipes. It is another Item that can be requested as a Free Gift from Neighbours.
Other Items that can be prepared in advance include 50 Wheat Bread for use in making Veggie Burgers and 40 Cherry Jam.
Many Decorations, including the Matrioshka Doll that is one of the Rewards for completing the Matrioshka Collections Mission can be 'cleaned' each day by your Neighbours when they visit your Farm. You will receive Cleaning Gift Bags of different colours depending on the Decorations that you have placed on your Farm. These Gift Bags randomly contain Power as well as OP or Coins. The OP and Power can be quite useful when there is a time-restricted Quest like this one. You will notice that there are quite a few Cooked Dishes in the Quest sequence. Each Dish that you make in the Kitchen requires 1 Power to complete. As there is a maximum of 30 Power when you access your Kitchen and you may need more than that to complete a step in the Quest sequence, I save the Power found in my Cleaning Gift Bags for time-restricted Missions.
As you can see from the Quest sequence, there are new Recipes in the Kitchen as well:

The Tradition of Maslenitsa
****************************
I personally am delighted by the way in which Family Farm and Family Farm Seaside includes ancient traditions and festivals in the game. The tradition of Maslenitsa is a very ancient one and can be found throughout ancient Europe. The figure of Maslenitsa, made of straw, sometimes is male and sometimes female. In all cases, it represents the Spirit of Winter or Death and, after being taken through the village or from house to house, either is placed on a bonfire and set aflame or drowned in the river or any body of water.
In some cases, the ashes from the fire are buried in the fields to bring fertility to the land. The figure, as previously described, can be either male or female, old or young, depending upon the culture and locaiton of the festival. It often is celebrated before or during the Lenten season.
The specific festival of Maslenitsa in old Russia occurred before the start of Lent and included the preparation and consumption of special foods made from dairy products that could not be eaten during Lent. Pancakes or Crepes were made from Eggs, Butter and Milk. When Lady Maslenitsa is thrown on the bonfire, any Crepes or Blini that have not been eaten are thrown on the fire with her. Her more ancient name was Kostroma. As the symbol of Winter, her 'death' is a sacrifice to bring back the light and allow the land to regain its life. The festival has been incorporated into Christian custom, however, and is very much a part of the cycle of Lenten observance like Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday.

Stranded Sailor Time-Restricted Quests
A new time-restricted Quest has appeared today in Family Farm Seaside. As usual, it actually involves two separate threads of activity. The first is the 'Collection Mission' wherein the Player must collect specific totals of Whistles in four different colours in order to redeem the final Reward. In this case, it is an Apricot Tree and a Lighthouse Decoration. The Apricot Tree is needed to complete Part IV of the Stranded Sailor Quest sequence. The Lighthouse is not needed and moreover cannot be cleaned. it is a curious Reward in a sense, as part of the background of any Player's farm in Seaside is a Lighthouse.
Above, a screenshot of the Egyptian Ship and Apricot Tree, two of the Rewards from these Quests. The Ship is a lovely Decoration as you can see.
One comment if ANY ONE from the development teams ever look at this site. I really do not comprehend why this Quest was not a St. Valentine's Day Quest. However beautiful the Egyptian Boat may be, what is the Lighthouse? It would have been so much more satisfying to have a Fountain that featured a Cupid or something of the sort... Roses and Hearts.
The Collection Mission is as follows:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Whistle Collections
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Collect Whistles
50 Pink Whistles from Love Fruit
70 Yellow Whistles from Honey
30 Green Whistles from Champagne
10 Brown Whistles from Chocolate
The second 'thread' as it were is a traditional Quest sequence. Again, this follows the usual rule in that you will not be able to complete all the Quests if you have not completed the Collection Mission first. You will need the Apricot Tree specifically in order to complete the fourth Quest in the sequence.
Your strategy therefore should be to concentrate first on the Collection Mission. What this means in practical terms is growing many Love Fruits, Clover and Chardonnay as collection of any Whistle always is a random event. Use of Rain, Thunderstorms or Fertliser in order to speed the process of growth is helpful. Where the Chocolate Trees are concerned, you can use Watering Cans to speed growth as well.
The traditional Quest sequence is as follows:

Tips for Completing the Quest Sequence
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Recently, I have found that the most difficult aspects of these time-restricted Quests involve specific items caught when fishing and lack of Power for the Kitchen. It therefore makes sense to make as many of the 'Ingredients' for the required Kitchen Recipes as far in advance as possible. In the Stranded Sailor sequence, you are required to make 10 Chocolate Dream Bars, 10 Tilapia with Chutney Sauce, 20 Lemon Cocktails and 10 Stuffed Turkey in your Kitchen. Every Player begins with only 30 Power. ALL of these Recipes are the third Recipe in a three-recipe Sequence. It therefore makes sense to produce the first two Recipes in each Sequence in advance as they serve as the required Ingredients in the third and final Recipe in each Kitchen Sequence.
You therefore may wish to make the following in advance:
10 Rice Krispies
10 Blueberry Krispy Bars
10 Apricot Chutney
10 Baked Tilapia
20 Lemon Champagne
10 Arabic Kabsa
10 Roast Turkey
There is a further requirement where the Arabic Kabsa is concerned, as one of the two Ingredients required to make it is Soft Dough, another Kitchen Recipe. Make certain that you have 10 Soft Dough on hand when you reach this part of the Quest sequence.
Fishing is a random business and for this Quest, you do need 10 Tilapia. If you have not smoked all your Fish, so much the better as you need 10 raw and unprocessed Tilapia for the Recipe in the Stranded Sailor Sequence. Although Fishing is required as one part of the Quest sequence, there is no guarantee that you will catch Tilapia. You therefore may wish to do some extra fishing before you reach the stage where you need to use 10 Tilapia in the Kitchen!
Other advance preparation might include the creation of 60 loaves of Wheat Bread and 60 Cheddar Cheese for the Cheese Burgers. You can request both Wheat Flour (used to make Wheat Bread) and Cheddar Cheese as Free Gifts from your Neighbours.
Finally, you will need a total of 60 Turkey Meat, 50 of which will be used to make Turkey Sausage and 10 of which will be needed to make Roast Turkey, an ingredient in Stuffed Turkey. Your Turkey eats Rice. Rice is needed for the Arabic Kabsa as well, so grow plenty of it if you do not have it in stock.

Machine Production Tip
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
There are two different ways of alleviating the tedium of producing the Machine products needed to satisfy a Quest requirement. One is through automation. In the original Family Farm, automation can be used almost constantly, as it is inexpensive and one earns plenty of OP on a regular basis to use in the automation option.
In Seaside, however, automated production is an expensive business, primarily because there are few opportunities to earn it in any significant amount. Although one can obtain OP randomly in the Cleaning Gift Bags and Achievements sometimes deliver 30 OP, all of this is insufficient in terms of regular use of the option.
The other way to alleviate the tedium and speed the process is by having more than one Machine. With two Machines in operation at the same time, the production time is halved. That can make an enormous difference, especially in time-restricted Quests.
A Player who intends to use multiple machines really does need to have a Warehouse as space on the Farm always is limited, even with all land expansions.

New Toys Added to the Toy Machine
As in the case of its larger counterpart, the original Family Farm game played on PCs and laptops, Family Farm Seaside has expanded the options available with respect to the Toy Machine. One now can make more than Red and Blue Teddy Bears. The following have been added:
Toy Alpaca: 230 Coins
Uses Alpaca Hair
Feed the White Alpaca Green Lettuce to obtain Alpaca Hair
Toy Horse: 128 Coins
Uses Horse Hair
Feed the Horse Carrots to obtain Horse Hair
Toy Reindeer: 48 Coins
Uses Reindeer Fur
Feed the Reindeer Mistletoe to obtain Reindeer Fur
The two original Toys are:
Red Teddy Bear: 74 Coins
Uses Wool
Feed the Sheep Wheat to obtain Wool
Blue Teddy Bear: 105 Coins
Uses Angora Hair
Feed the Angora Rabbit Carrots to obtain Angora Hair
The Reindeer, originally a final Reward for completion of a Christmas Quest sequence, now has been added to the Market and can be purchased for 6 RC.
Perhaps ultimately Seaside will follow the original game even further to add some of our feathered friends in the form of Peacock Toys and Goose Toys to the options available.

Time-Restricted Chinese New Year Quest
Family Farm Seaside has released a time-limited Lunar New Year Quest. As some one who has celebrated the Lunar New Year ever since I was introduced to it by my comrades at the dojo at Univeristy when I first began to study taekwondo years ago, I always welcome the opportunity to celebrate it in a virtual reality. I do wish they would refer to it as the Lunar New Year instead of 'Chinese New Year' as it is not only the Chinese who celebrate the festival.
As uaual in these time-restricted festival Quests, there are two separate components to the affair. First, there is the Ice Lantern Castle that must be placed in order to be able to redeem prizes that are used in the Quest sequence that is the second component of the festival Mission.
Thus, first place the Ice Lantern Castle on your Farm and collect Couplets from Crops, Trees, Animals and Machines. The cost of the Castle is 500 Coins and it will operate for 9 days after its placement. You can upgrade the Ice Castle by requesting Window Papers from your Neighbours and redeeming Snow Flakes from the Castle by using your Couplets. The cost of each Snow Flake is 1 Couplet. Unlike the other three ordinary prizes that can be redeemed with Couplets, the cost of the Snow Flakes will not increase with each 'purchase'.
Level 2 requires: 20 Window Papers and 2 Snow Flakes
It is only when you wish to upgrade to the final Level 5 in order to double the number of Couplets that you receive randomly from any Item that you will be required to invest in one of the materials with 5 RC. Personally, in all the time-restricted Quests I have completed that involve the Collection of an Item or Items from Crops, Animals, Trees and/or Machines, I have not noticed ANY real difference between Level 1 and Levels 2, 3 and 4. In other words, you really need to go 'all the way' and upgrade to Level 5 or you are wasting time and energy by upgrading the build.
At Level 5, however, you will notice a marked difference in the speed at which your Couplets increase as each Collection will be doubled and you will obtain two Couplets instead of one. Is this worth the price? I personally think so, especially as the developers appear to be raising the difficulty level of these Quests by requiring that you complete the Collection earlier and earlier in the sequence. In terms of the Chinese New Year Quest sequence, you must collect a total of 260 Couplets to redeem all 5 Prizes before you can complete Chinese New Year III, the third Quest in the sequence. The Plum Tree that is the final Reward for the Couplets Collection is not being sold in the Marketplace yet. No doubt it will become available AFTER the Chinese New Year Quests expire but the purchase price undoubtedly will require RC.
Meanwhile, redeem Snow Flakes for four different Prizes, unlocking the final Prize which is a Plum Tree.
The initial prices of each Item are as follows:
Snow Flake 1 Couplet (50 total)
Ice Swan: 100 Couplets (5 Total)
Rain 8 Couplets (15 Total)
Power 1 Couplet (50 Total)
Note that you will need to obtain the final Reward in the form of the Plum Tree in order to complete Chinese New Year Quest III in the following sequence. In order to claim the Plum Tree, you need to redeem one of each of the four Items given above. The Plum Tree requires 150 Couplets. What this means, in effect, is that you will need a total of 260 Couplets in order to advance beyond Chinese New Year III. You therefore should grow the Crops needed to complete Quests I and II and then grow as many Crops as possible while using as many Animals and Machines as possible in order to obtain the random Couplets.
STRATEGIES FOR COLLECTIONS:
There are two different strategies for obtaining the Item/Items in this type of Collection Quest. One is to grow the fastest growing Crops again and again until all Prizes are redeemed. Players at low levels are restricted to Clover and Pasture in terms of Crops that mature in an hour or less. At higher levels, you can grow Pineapples. This type of Collection Quest, where the Item can be found in ANY Crop, Tree, Animal or Machine is far easier than the other sort where there usually are four set objects, each of which yields a specific colour of the Colleciton Item. The fact that Players cannot progress past Chinese New Year III until the Plum Tree has been redeemed makes speed of the essence in completing the Collection Quest.
Pineapples can be fed into Jam Makers to produce Pineapple Jam. You can make a significant profit with Pineapples as well as being able to collect Couplets randomly from the Jam Maker as well as th eoriginal Crop harvest. Although I usually follow the second strategy of Collection rather than this one, in this particular case, I grew a lot of Pineapples and completed the Collection Quest in a few hours.
The second Collection strategy is to grow the Items that the Quest sequence will need. It takes longer to complete the Collection simply because the Crops required for the Quest sequence probably will take longer than an hour to mature, even with the aid of Rain or Thunderstorms. In this case, you will need Corn, Oats, Wheat and Rye in fairly large quantities. Make certain that you have a good quantity of Sugar on hand, both for use in the Kitchen and in the Popcorn Machine. You will need 60 Chardonnay as well for Champagne. . Make Condensed Milk, Orange Smoothies, Cake Flour and Soft Dough in the Kitchen in advance. Your Power will be needed for specific Recipes later.

Chinese New Year Quests Strategy
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
A series of Quests goes in tandem with the Ice Lantern Castle Collection Quest. As indicated earlier, note that you will have to redeem the Final Prize of a Plum Tree before you can progress in the New Year Quest past Quest III unless you wish to 'skip' the requirement by spending RC. In my view, this would be a waste of premium cash. Much better to complete the Collections and gain the Plum Tree.
In order to perform the Chinese New Year Quests efficiently, you would be well advised to grow an enormous quantity of Corn. You will need Corn for the Eggs in the new Kitchen Recipes that are featured in the Quest sequence and in the Black Forest Cakes as well as an ingredient in the Popcorn that is the subject of one of the Quests. You will need 60 Chardonnay in order to make Champagne to complete the last step.
Whichever strategy you follow in terms of growing Crops, try to Fish as often as possible. You will need a couple of items, including Seaweed and Hairtails, in order to complete the Chinese New Year Quest. Do NOT process the Seaweed. You will need it in its raw, natural form for the Recipe. You will need 10 Hairtails for the last step in the Quest and the requirement will be to smoke them, so do not smoke them in advance!
xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Small Profit Tip
xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Do not sell the Orange Ice Cream that you make for the Chinese New Year III if you have a Matcha Tree. Instead use the Orange Ice Cream to make Matcha Ice Cream and then sell it. There are only three uses for Matcha and using it to make Matcha Ice Cream is one of the most profitable as it sells for 699 Coins. Orange Ice Cream sells for only 614 Coins. Wait until you have completed the entire Quest, however, as you will need all your Powers.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
A Note about Investment in Premium Items
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
A player who belongs to a Family Farm Seaside Group on Facebook argued that it was not worthwhile to pay RC for the Ice Tree and the White Vinegar Stand required to complete the Quests because the final Reward was nothing more than a Decoration. This is one way of looking at it, but quite honestly, the Ice Tree and White Vinegar Stand produce Items that are required again and again in Quests. Sooner or later, it is a good idea to make certain that you have ALL item-producing objects in Family Farm Seaside if you are really interested in the game.
Any Quest sequence will give you rewards in the form of Coins and XP. Perhaps the rewards are not significant but quests inspire Players to push themselves a little and farm more aggressively. I never have been the sort of person to tell a Player that hs/she MUST play any game a certain way... in fact, I would argue that Farming Simulation games give Players the opportunity to live in a virtual world and do precisely as they please in that world. You need not perform ANY Quests if that is your preference, but you will not advance very quickly and it is progress in experience that unlocks new options. In any cvent, without the ability to make Ice (whether with the Ice Tree or the Ice Dolphin) or the ability to produce White Vinegar, you will find it impossible to make certain Recipes. It is not only this particular Quest sequence that requires these Items.
