St. Patrick"s Day Quest and Beer Collection Mission

An 11 day quest has been released in tandem with a Collection Mission with the reward of another 'Collectable' in the form of a Cumin Plant.

Special Tasks and Requirements:
You will need the Stuffed Potato Recipe for the Stovehouse, and the premium Cereal Machine
Tending Botanical Garden
No fishing, no pet chests

Note from Freyashawk: HM. Freyashawk currently is at No. 10, dropping from No. 7.  I am grateful for every vote.  I reap no financial benefit from publishing on Google, nor from any source.  I have had this site for almost nine years.  Because I was hacked, the ability to edit old posts no longer exists but I do try to cover the timed quests still.  Being able to be in the top 10 at the end of the contest is a measure of this site's usefulness only.  I do not ask because of the negligable RC it would reward, but only to keep Freyashawk visible as a guide writer.  I no longer have the ability to work on complex enormous guides, but I have written some helpful posts for New Horizons on this site recently as well.  My guide for the original Gamecube version of Animal Crossing was over 1000 pages on IGN.  Those days are gone, but I still try to help players when possible.  Seaside now is too enormous to cover every activity, but I will try to continue to post the timed quests and Riddle solutions.  The latter costs me 18 RC to complete, by the way, so guide writing costs me financially rather than giving me any profit.

I realised my typographical errors are caused by the arthritis that bends my fingers now.  Apologies.

Starry Sky, Pisces

This is one of the oldest activities and it is charming, not too labour-intensive, and offers a good reward.  It will expire in 8 and a half days now.

The final Reward is a Pisces Statue that is worth 4 Landscape Points and gives a Purple Gift Box when cleaned.
You are taken to a Constellation Map, and a magical wand is given each day to activate a star.  Once activated, the three tasks must be completed within two hours.  If you wish to activate more stars, you must pay 2 RC for each additional magical wand, but you will have a new 'free' wand at reset.

Although it was not in the top 10, the goal no longer appeared impossible.  I am very touched by the loyalry of so many farmers when I have been I unable to post as much as I once did.  Thank you.

Love and Care Quest and Heart-Shaped Card Collection Mission

A new 11 day traditional  Quest sequence has been released in tandem with a Collection Mission.  It purports to be a romantic St. Valentine's Day theme, but some of the items have me at a loss.  A Meat Grinder is the Reward for collecting Heart-Shaped Cards.  We are asked to fashion Tractor Tires in our kitchen as one of our tasks.  The final Decoration is a Heart-Shaped Balloons Decoration, however.

A new Farm Beauty Contest has been generated hot on the heels of the last one.  High level farms should be able to organise themzelves to reach 6000 votes without askibg for neighbour votes.  If you are at a high level, you should hqve RC.  Use that RC to complete the new Base.  When placed, it is worth 9 votes per day for theme.  There are theme deciratiobs in the Lucky Wheel/Share Box as well that can be purchased for RC.  Those who refuse to spend 'real money' thus can use game currency to boost their farm value.  You need less than 200 votes per day to gain the Decoration at 4000.  You need less than 300 for the Avatar at 6000.  And it is not a 'daily' requirement actually.  It is just convenient to measure it that way.

HM. Freyashawk only needs your votes to rank.  I think it is outrageous that it appears to be impossible now to rank in the top 10 with ordinary gameplay by having your neighbours send their votes to you.  Winners are manipulating the system or actually cheating.  I do not ask for votes for any farm except HM. Freyashawk.  For me, it shows whether or not updating thiz sure still is useful.  I do not get paid.  I get nothing feom Google.  I am a target for hackers in fact.  Health issues and the ever expanding size of this game make it difficult to cover everything at this point in time.  My last procedure was not without effects that have to be addressed.  I do what I can, abd try to post the timed quests at least.  Thank you for your prayers and good wishes.

N.B. You noe can opt out of the Collection Mission by purchasing the reward.

Tips for Beginners in Animal Crossing New Horizons

A neighbour in Seaside sent me a message to thank me for recommending this game.  I feel that, having recommended it, I should give some simple tips for a beginner.

She asked for help with Friend Codes, so I promised I would post instructions about that.

I have a surgical procedure this week, so may not be able to publish much more until that has bern completed.

First of all, my life in New Horizons was enriched immensely by my friend Cherie who gave me the game and then shared rare items with me.  A year and a half later, I am in a position to help others.

Catalogue

Unlike Seaside, once you buy the game, all updates and new items and options are free.  This, for me, is extraordinarily positive.  Seaside appears to release more and more oremium items each month.  The price is becoming untenable for many, including me.  I am the sort of player who strives for 100% collection.  Once, I did have every item in Seaside.  Now, the addition of all the Farm Beauty Contest trophies to the Galkery means one never can achieve 100% in terms of Gallery registration.  This is sad.

Animal Crossing is all about collections.  Items may be inexpensive or costly.  Many are seasonal.  Some must be crafted.  Others appear randomly in Nook's Shop.  You never have to pay with real money, however.  The currency is Bells.

What is helpful is having friends who own the items you want.  If your friend drops them on the ground (where they appear as green leaves), you can pick them up and drop them again to add them to your own Catalogue.  What this means is that you can order them at any time.  This is one benefit of having friends.

Friend Invites are the way to add friends in Animal Crossing.  I will give you detailed instructions here so you can find your Friend Code.

First, go to the Home Screen on your Switch.  You will find three sets of icons there.

At the very top are little round icons that represents all the users on the Switch.  Find the icon that represents you, and tap the A button.

This opens a pull down menu.  Find Profile at the top of this menu and press A.

This will open what sometimes is known as your Passport.  It is here that you will find a Friend Code.  Share this with any one with whom you would like to play this game.  I suggest you do not share your friend code with total strangers or people you do not trust.

One note here: You will need an active Nintendo Membership if you wish to play with others via wi-fi.  You can opt to pay for a membership for a single month or for a year.  This is the only other cost in real money for playing, and you need not pay if you only wish to play by yourself or with people in your home.

Tips for Beginners

Basically, you begin the game with two clear goals:

1.  Pay off your debt by earning 5000 Nook Miles
2.  Sell items to increase your income in terms of Bells.

Storage is a huge need in this game.  There is no storage in a tent.  Pay Nook his 5000 Miles as quickly as possible to upgrade to a house, thus acquiring storage space.

Almost anything you do in the game will earn you Nook miles.  Harvesting fruit, collecting shells, catching insects and fish, diving to catch sea creatures, talking to Animal neighbours, digging up fossils, planting flowers... all these give you Miles.  You need to sell as much as possible, but then buy everything in the shop to move forward.  Selling earns you Bells.  Buying moves the game forward.

When Nook upgrades, you are able to buy more items and better tools.

One advantage of having a friend who is a veteran player is that he or she can give you superior tools that do not break as quickly.

A veteran player may be able to share duplicate DIY recipes with you.

Since a major update in the summer, you can pay 1000 Nook Miles each day for a trip by boat to a random island, but although all charqcters on yoyr island potentially are eligible, the character must gave used the Nook Miles Ticket left at the airport by Tom Nook before the kappa will allow you to take a tour.

The kappa islands can be any season, or special islands with vines and glowing moss.  They can be islands with shooting stars in which case you can find a star recipe on the beach and star fragments on the beach and by hitting rocks.

There will be a bottle with a recipe on every island.

N.B.  Every character needs to develop a relationship with Brewster to obtain special rewards.  With Freyashawk, he said 'Happy Valentine's Day.'  When I loaded another character, no special greeting.

Tips about Harv's Cooperatives

It really is worthwhile to open some of the stalls on Harv's Island.

Redd offers two works of art, inter alia.  If you purchase one, he will display another different one.  It therefore is wirth it to buy evrn a fake to get a chance at another piece.

On days when he is moored on your island, his stall will be shut.  Other than that, you can purchase one art work each day.

Fakes will not be accepted by Nook.  You will need to habe a rubbish bin of some sort (garbage pail or whatever) if you wish to dispose of them.  Some of the fakes make great decorations outdoors however.  The Warrior Statue comes to mind as the fake has a sword.

Katrina can give you special good luck items if you obtain a negative fortune from her.  Pay 1000 Bells for a fortune.  If it is bad, pay 10 000 for her to purify.  You will receive a special item in the post the next day.  These include:
Power Stone
Mini Dharma
Golden Turtle

Once received, these can be ordered from your catalogue.

Saharah

Saharah has a number of new walls, floor and rugs.  Her wares change weekly.  It really is worth it.

Although the cost of opening a new stall is given as 100 000 Bells, donations mysteriously given will reduce the balance owed.  Not certain if reduction in balance owed is based on the number of stalls opened, friendship levels with animals or is random.

Tortimer has a stall where you can access your storage.  I jyst discovered he becomes Corimer in Autumn (I am in Southern Hemisphere) and he gave me 5 Acorns when I spoke to him today.

The most important stall is the llama pair where you can alter the colour and sometimes the dedign of items.  This is a total gamechanger.  You now only need one example of an item in your catalogue.  Take it to the llama pair and pay for every variation!  They will customise items from Nook shop, from Miles Redemption and other Special items.

AC New Horizons Happy Home Paradise

A dear friend wanted me to have the expansion for New Horizons.  It reminds me a little of Pocket Camp, a free online Nintendo game.  This expansion, however, is not free.  You can purchase it as paet of a special premium Nintendo membership, or as downloadable content using a code.

New Horizons is fabulous in the fact that new items are inteoduced regularly and you never have to pay.  Once you pay for the fame itself, you are set.  This expansion is like an entire second game, although it will unlock new options ultimately on your island.

For me, the excitement will increase with the seventh home that will unlock the ability to call amiibos to the vacqtion islands.  This gives you the ability to interact with the animals you like best.

Imcidentally, there are vines and glowing moss to harvest and the diy I was given was for a vine lamp.

In the initial stages, you are sent to another group of islands to build dream homes for rzndom animals.  You are not paid in Bells, but in Pokis, a currency you can spend only in Lottie's shop.  Items sold tend to be new ones introduced in the last big update.

The number of dream homes you decorate determines the new options you unlock.  With four homes, you unlock the ability to polish furniture.  With the fifth, you are given a DIY and told a crafting bench soon will arrive.

A crafting bench was ordered, and it will arrive, and you will be able to find bottles on the beach the next day.

Lottie now will hire you to design a school in an abandoned building and this unlocks the option to resize rooms.  On completion, you will be paid 25,000 Poki.

I designed one more house after choosing a client from the beach, and an amiibo scanner was introduced.  Immediately given the option of calling an amiibo if I had one.

Ten houses and they throw a party.  I was given a partition DIY.  An animal gave me a wall I never had on my island.

I noticed items from my own catalogue were available.  Once you use a new item for a Vacation home, it becomes available for other vacation homes.

Prior to this, when I decorated the school, I was given the option to resize rooms.

I was given a job to renovate a café or a restaurant.  Animals randomly go there to eat.

I was given 2 DIYs to create pillars

After using them to create a vacation home, ome of the resident Animals came to the office, saying he would like a housemate.

I then redesigned his home with partitions.  He shares the house now with another Animal.

Niko wants to perform more DIY.  You need to give him materials:
30 branches
10 Wood

Nico gave me more DIY recipes, pillar and partition.

I was given the soundscape option after sitting with Wardell at the beach.
I think it was the 17th home that gave me the option to design two floors.

On the sqme day, after buying items, Wardell said henceforth I could make special orders for any vacation item used in a home design.  I believe this was unlocked by the number of items I had purchased there.

My 20th home generated another party.  At the party, Lottie suggests a music festival.  She says we need a total of 30 homes and completion of the other facilities first.

Now events occurred thick and fast.  I had a surgical procedure this week, and still dealing with effects.  I actually was readuly to fly back to my Island, but had no chance to opt for that.

Partly my fault, all of this.   I needed almost 120 000 Pokis to make a special order for a double-edged sword feom Wardell.  I was less than 100 Poki short if the mark.  I therefore was trying to complete one more job.

There was a party, as I had mentioned, with juice and food.

What happened next was that Lottie took a sudden turn and had to be flown out of Paradise to hospital.

Qe had to hold the fort.  Almost immediately, a little bear named Stitches walked through the office door and ordered a holiday home.

Did this, and found Lottie back in the office.  She paid me 15,000 Poki for completing the Stitches job, and gave me some special food (after telling me her illness had probably been caused by the special food).

Once I had the money, I ordered my double-edged sword and went home.

Items in Shop and in Home Orders

The items in the office shop change daily, as do the Animals that are available to become clients.  If you are really interested in a specific item or Animal, get it sorted before the next day.

Using a Paradise item makes it available for use again as well as placing it in the Special Orders catalogue when you unlock that option.  If you see a rare item in the Orders menu that you like, place it in the house or grounds to add it to the special catalogue.

I am not certain that only items I actually used in designs became available for Special Orders.

The next upgrade event is that Lottie will insist you work on the hospital as soon as you change for work.

At the same time, she announced a new ABD machine where you can exchange Poki for Bells and vice versa.  Please be aware there is a limit on how many Bells you can exchange daily, and they are worth a third of what the Pokis are worth approximately.  So exchange 100000 Bells for about 30,000 Poki more or less.

The day after this, Lottie said Wardell had scaffolding to work on a venue.  After I designed a second house for the day, Tom Nook was with Lottie and said any Nook catalogue items now could be used.

I am not certain what triggers new items in Paradise Special items.  I used some classical pillars to design a home for Julian, but contrary to my hopes, they were not added.  A throne, however, for over 720,000 Pokis was added.

I now was receiving 15,000 Poki to design any home.  Two homes later, Lottie demanded I help her build the Café.  I received 25,000 Poki when I did this.

Nico and Materials

Nico has a list of materials for his DIY projects.  I forgot about this for a time.  I completed his second list today.  It consisted of Clay, Softwood and one other material.

So far, he has given me DIYs for various pillars, but not the one I like, which I suspect is a vine DIY.

When I completed the 30th home, there was an event with K.K.  that lasted a long time.  Any animal afterwards will ask if you want to dance.  If you say you do, the event will occur again.

Tom Nook the next morning will announce that you now can remodel animal homes on your own island.

The next day at Paradise Nat appeared looking for the school.

He gives a bug lecture and tells every one there to choose a bug from their pockets and set free in vacation home garden.

Evidently what this means in fact is that insects you catch at home can be donated to Paradise clients to roam in their gardens.

Once I had designed an Art Gallery above the Café, I was given a better title and the next house designed, I received 22,000 Poki because 'the client asked for you by name.'

Snowstorm Quest and Mug Collection Mission

A new 11 day traditional Quest haa been released in tandem with a Collection Mission.

A new Farm Beauty Contest has started.  Remember that you need less than 200 votes per day to receive the Decoration at 4000 and less than 300 to receive the Avatar at 6000.  It is not really a daily requirement, but if you are receiving that many from your characters, you have no need for neighbour votes.  The increase in theme items benefits you.  It does not change the totals for the rewards.  It simply means that more old itens count for theme.  You always can find theme items in the Lucky Wheel.  If you complete the new base qnd place it on your farm, you get a boost of 9 votes per day for theme.  It is worth doing if you are not receiving maximum votes for theme.  Make certain you have four pets fully kitted out and on the farm for maximum votes from Grandma.

Note from Freyashawk: I have a surgical procedure in the week to come.  It will cause problems temporarily at least with respect to my writing hand.  Prayers as always appreciated.  If all goes well, there may be improvements ultimately in my health, but it is uncertain what they will find until they make the cut.

Thanks to wonderful Kaye for sending screenshots early in the morning.  The typing error was mine.

Family Holiday Quest and Christmas Bow Collection Mission

A new 11 day quest has been released in tandem with a Collection Mission.  Sales now offer premium items, including the Collection Mission Reward, for cash.  As the Collection Missions now usually require fairly new premium machines, my old advice to players to complete them even if they cannot complete the Quest now is altered by the fact that you will need to make the choice to invest in new Animals or Machines.   You will need these again and again.  They can be purchased in the Market for RC or for cash in the special sale.  This Mission requires the Omelette Machine.

Note for Freyashawk: I first would like to wish every one a joyful and blessed holiday season.  A Happy Christmas and Happy Yuletide!  I believe in embracing all festivals as my readers know by now..  I really loved Seaside for introducing us to festivals from every culture.

You need not sign an Act of Faith to appreciate the eloquent tale of the baby born in a Cave surrounded by Animals, whose birth coincided with the appearance of a wondrous Star.  Or to hang stockings for Father Christmas, and decorate an Evergreen tree with lights.  These old traditions can brighten dark days, and give people a sense of hope.  I make no apologies because I am not trying to impose my own beliefs on any one.  I simply find these traditions inspiring and would like to share that feeling without prejudice or pressure.

Many families have experienced the loss of a loved one this past year.  My heart goes out to you all.  Never apologise for not being able to do chores in the game when real life needs your attention.  The most that should happen is that your neighbours should send you their love and sympathy, not delete you or demand visits.  My Community in Seaside has become a group of supportive friends whose friendship has sustained me through some difficult times.   I hope the sane for all of you, that you find real friends in a virtual farm game.

I would like to thank Kaye for her help with untimed missions like Darryl's Adventure, for her help I sending screenshots for this one, for her incredible support both in the game and outside of it.  She is stellar!

I would like to thank all of the farmers who continue to send votes in the Farm Beauty Contest.  It seems impossible to reach No.10 any longer, but I am grateful for the effort and every vote.  I hope the site remains useful.  When I have access to a computer again, updating this site should be easier.

Tip: Set your Monkey Boost to reduce OP.  Island Machines in particular are brutal in their OP requirements.

Finally, you may have noticed recent posts that give tips for Nintendo's Switch version of Animal Crossing New Horizons.  It may be the best game I ever played, a gift that keeps on giving.  Once you have purchased the game, sll updates offer incredible free new items and options.  You never pay a penny again.  Each season offers new special seasonal items, recipes and now, a host of new Special Irems including Castles, Pine Trees, and another menu offers Carousels, Trains and other amazing decorations that move and display lights.  Dialogue is incredibly clever sonetimes.  From the 15th of December, evergreens on your island are decorated with lights.   There is a Toy Day activity that offers special gifts.   There are meteor showers where you can wish on stars.  The Moon in the sky follows the progression of the real Moon.   You can play alone or with friends.  If any of my Seaside friends are interested, let me know, and I will give any help I can with game questions.  My guide for the original Game Cube version was over a thousand pages long.  It still is an impressive me that continues to surprise me.

Winter in Animal Crossing

The Magic of Winter in New Horizons

Again, apologies to Seaside players, as this is the second post about New Horizons I have made on this site.  Since my accounts was hacked, however, I have been unable to access my other sites, which is frustrating and unconscionable.  I would like to be able to help players of New Horizons, however, with a few tips.   I do feel any Seaside player would enjoy New Horizons immensely.  For those Seaside players who complain about the ever-increasing number of premium items in the game, the wonderful thing about Animal Crossing is that, once you purchase the game itself, Nintendo adds an extraordinary number of updates with new items and the player never had to pay again.  To me, this is wonderful.

This post is about Winter in New Horizons.  It is Winter now, but only if your Island is located in the Northern Hemisphere.  If in the South, the Summer season has begun.

The game runs on real time, but a really enjoyable and helpful aspect of the game is the ability to alter your system clock to travel back in time, whether it is a matter of hours,  days or months.

The fact is that many players have day jobs.  If they do not change the time, they may find themselves able to go to the game  in the dead of night when all the shops are shut.  Time travel cam make the difference between utter frustration and true enjoyment.

Winter involves a number of special options.  The biggest event of the Season is Toy Day.  From 1 December, Nook will offer a special Toy for future gift giving on Toy Day which is like Christmas really.

On the 11th of December, your landscape will change to snow, and you will begin to see falling snowflakes that you can catch with a net.  These are used to create items.

On 12th December, Isabelle will make reference to the snow and tell you that you may find snowballs on the ground.  You should find two each day.  These can be rolled into Snowboys who, if made properly, will give you special recipes and large snowflakes in gratitude for bringing them to life.  You can make a new Snowboy every day.

Note that if you make a Perfect Snowboy and have more than one character, you can load each to go to the Snowboy for a quick chat.  Each player will receive a random Frozen recipe DIY and a large snowflake from the same Snowboy.

On the 15th, Christmas multi-coloured lights will appear on the Trees and if you shake trees, you randomly can find Ornaments of different colours.  Like the Pine cones and Acorns of Autumn, these can be used to create special seasonal items.

More to follow!  Tips on creating a perfect Snowboy as well as the appearance and uses of the Dung Beetle.

Festival DIYs

You may obtain the festival DIYs that use ornaments in a couple of ways.  Ordinarily, you find them by shooting down balloons of any colour apart from dark blue.  Dark blue always contain materials.

Another way to obtain these is from an Animal in his or her house at the crafting bench.  It is very useful to visit your Anulimals in this season.   If you have the DIY, the Animal will offer you ornaments rather than than a duplicate.

One Animal will have a DIY in the morning, and another at night.

Perfect Snowboy

This is something you have to learn, but two snowballs will appear daily.  The first one you touch becomes the body.  Rolling both to a point where they are not tok far from our another before they reach the desired size is prudent.  Every roll increases the size.  The body should be maximum size.   The size requirement for the head is very precise.  What I did was take a photo of the first Perfect Snowboy I made with my character beside it.  It is a good reference.  The head should be 2/3 the size of the body.  Too small or too large and you receive nothing but complaints.   Actually, your first attempt may result in rewards by a Snowboy feeling generous despite your lack of expertise but after that, the requirements are rigid.

Every character on your island can speak to a Perfect Snowboy to receive a random DIY.  They all may be different, so if you hate the activity, simply talk to the Snowboy with each character.  Only the individual who makes the Snowboy will receive a large Snowflake as well, until the characters who speak to him have received all the recipes.

The Dung Beetle will be driven to snowballs and if not stopped, will roll them into the nearest body of water.  Try to catch it with a net.  They make wonderful models.

Remember that the first snowball touched is the body, even if that touch is by a Dung beetle.

If a snowball falls into the water or is smashed, quit and reload.   You will find two snowballs again.

The Snowboy gives Frozen DIYs but sends them directly to the Nook phone.  I only received one new recipe thzt uses Snowflakes this year.

Toy Day

Toy Day is 24 December.  It is not the last day when you can shake ornaments from the decorated Cedar trees but it is the last day toys will be sold at Nook's and it is the day when Jingles appears at the plaza.

Speak to Jingles:
1.  He gives you a DIY to make special festive wrapping paper  and asks that you craft three.  Remember it is a DIY card.  You need to learn it before you can craft it.

Bring him the paper and he will give you a Magic Bag with gifts for all the animals.  Equip it and speak to each of your animals to complete Jingle's quest.  It has to be equipped when you speak to any animal or you will be unable to give the gift.

When all of the animals have received a gift, report to Jingles.  He will give three rewards:
Set of Toy Stockings
Diy for a Gift Pile
Toy Sleigh

He will take back the Magic Bag as well.

This is where many new players make the error if thinking Toy Day is done.  If you have been buying Toys throughout the season, wrap 10 and give one to each of your Animals to receive a gift in return.  The gift will be a Toy.  You may have received three gifts from Animals when you were handing out Jingle's presents, but this is the way to obtain Toys that were not sold at your Nook's or different colours.  You actually can regift a Toy given to you, but you must wrap it first.

On Toy Day, no Animal will be found crafting at a bench, but between 25 December and the end of the year, you still may obtain a Festive DIY randomly from an Animal at home.

Remember there is one DIY available before noon and another after noon.  I never have obtained two Festive diys from Animals on the same day,, but you will receive two different recipes if you visit every one both in the morning and evening.

They still may be obtained randomly by shooting down a balloon but the odds are poor.

Remember that if you have created more than one character,  each can obtain the (same) DIY from.an Animal and each can talk to a Perfect Snowman for a different random DIY.  Each can experience Jingle's event as well.

Set of Stockings

Hang it on the wall and use the A button the next day to receive a secret gift of Jingle's photo.

New Festive DIYs

New to this year I believe:
Festive Top Set*
Ornament Crown
Giant Ornament
Ornament Tree
Ornament Table Lamp

*I believe this is for Hanukkah

Special Goods

In the seasonal menu, the special food items appear only through the 31st.  The New Year items, including Lunar New Year items will continue to be sold for some time.

New Year Silk Hats

You can purchase four different colours from Tortimer on New Year's Eve.  Each Island has different sets of colours.  You cannot order these from your catalogue afterwards.

A new 11 day Quest released in tandem with a Collection Mission.  The reward for the Collection Mission is another Collectable in the form of a Lemon Pepper Grater.

30 from Oreo Donuts
10 from Peach Tree

Reward: Lemon Pepper Grater

Special Tasks:
Fish 8 times with Squid Hook
Cook 4 Crystal Rock Cakes in Stovehouse
Tend Flowers in Botanical Garden 15 times

Note about Farm Beauty Contest: You do not need maximum votes in Theme to reach either 4000 or 6000 Votes.  The increase in theme items only benefits players by giving a larger number of items that will count.  Many of the old premium decorations that are included are worth 6 to 9 theme votes daily.  When you place the new base, make certain to take a new screenshot for a boost of 9 votes daily.

I do appreciate every vote sent to HM. Freyashawk.  I really find it difficult now to believe in the integrity of this contest especially where top ten fans are concerned.  I keep hoping the developers will address the wild discrepancy that exists between farms  between 45,000 votes and 15,000 votes especially when those votes increase amazingly in the last voting period.  Be that as it may, I think every farmer who still has faith in me.  I hope to be able to update my site better when I have a computer again.  Doing this on a mobile is very difficult!

Note from Freyashawk: I am increasingly disturbed by player messages begging for votes or special items in the game.  I no longer ask for votes.  I still would like to be in the top 10, but the lack of integrity in the Farm Beauty Contest makes it almost impossible.   I feel the players know I need the votes and if they wish to send them,  I am grateful, but no point lowering my dignity to beg.   A little disillusioned by the increasing number of premium items and offerings as well, and the increasing frequency of special activities.  I have supported this game with money I ill could afford for eight years because I know some one has to pay or the game will go under.  Those of us who purchase the premium items allow players who do not to continue playing this 'free game'.  The Millionaire Cow was one way for a player to make a premium purchase for an insignificant amount .  The number of new premium items released each month is becoming ridiculous.  The pressure that this game now places on farmers to be active almost constantly,  as well as increasing gap between low level farmers and high level farmers is to me a negative trend.  The original game created a similar situation wherein only the high level farmers were able to complete many of the quests and activities, and only through constant labour.

Furthermore I believe that players with more than one Farm should not be asking for votes at all.  The second farm can send sufficient votes to the first to collect all rewards.  What every farmer should be able to achieve is the 4000 total that awards a new cleanable decoration.

I hope to be able to have a laptop after this Christmas.  If you never used the Blogger app, you may not realise how difficult it is to post lists.  On a computer, I can see and create an entire post before publishing it.  On the app, I can see only 9 lines of text.  In other words, I cannot see the entire post until I publish it.  This creates opportunities for multiple errors.

Tips for Animal Crossing New Horizon

I apologise to Seaside players, but since my accounts were hacked, I no longer have access to my other blogs, which is really awful.  I wanted to share a few tips for Animal Crossing players.  For Seaside, the new Quest can be found in the next post.

Since the huge update on 5 November, we now have access to a cooperative market on Harv's Island.  To bring any new stall costs 100,000 Bells.

The most unique of these is the llama pair who can change the colour of your items.  Where previously,  you were limited to the colour of an item you found in Nooks or on Redd's trawler, now you can take an item to them and choose any colour.   They cannot customise every item, but almost every item!  This is a real gamechanger.

There is a veritable host of new items both on sale in the shops and available for Nook Miles.  For me personally, two of the most exciting were the merry-go-round and dress-up doll.  The doll is a shop item and has a multitude of customisation options.  The carousel moves with music, much like a real one.

Today, the beautiful Samurai Suit appeared in the shop for 150,000 Bells.  This is a decorative item, not an outfit, and is a complete suit of armour.

In Nook Special items, there is a Castle Set consisting of Tower, Gate and Wall.  The most expensive is 250000 Bells I think.

Castle prices:
xxxxxxxxxxxxx

I have seen so much misinformation about these that I am posting here :

The Pine Tree is spectacular. Very Japanese.

Note that some of these were in older Animal Crossing games, like the Bow.  I am hoping to find some other Japanese items that were in other Animal Crossing games

*I am fairly certain the Lab Chair is new, although the Lab Experiments set was available from the start

Other New Items
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

New musical instruments include:

Clarinet
Trumpet

Lily Pad Table

Ceiling items:
xxxxxxxxxxxx

There are a multitude of these, but I particularly like:
Chandelier: 30000 Bells
Moroccan Lights:  9800 Bells
Round Light Fixture: 4100 Bells
Ornithopter: 5700 Bells

There is a disco light that might be fun.  It has different colours.

Owl Clock: 3400 Bells
Piggy Bank: 740 Bells

Food items and furniture:

There are a lot of dishes and beverages that will be sold at Nooks.  There are furniture items as well, including:

Ice cream display: 11,000 Bells

Animal Visits
xxxxxxxxxxxx

Animals will invite you to visit them.  They will ask if any item appeals to you, but will refuse to let go of many of them.  They play the High Low Game.  When you leave, they give you a song.

What can be annoying is an Animal potentially knocking on your door whenever you go into your house.  They will bring a gift, often a fruit, play the High Low Game, and then either speak to you in the main room or ask for a tour of every room.  You can terminate the visit by trying to walk out the front door.  I do not think it reduces friendship to cut a visit short, but I am not certain.

One reason I am writing this post is to publish the effect of opening a stall for Redd on Harv's Island.  First of all, once open, he sells two works of art, and they can be counterfeit.  Legitimate art dealer is not an accurate description.  It is the same old Redd.  On the island stall, I believe he will offer the sane two art pieces for a week.

I was disturbed initially to discover that, instead of selling two items at the Stall, he has the same sort of grab box he has during festivals.  Here it produces random food items.

My concern was that anchored now on Harv's Island, he no longer would appear in his trawler on my island.  Fortunately,  this is not the case.  In his trawler,  he still offers two items as well as four works of art.

I have more tips.  I will add them as energy permits.

New Islands
xxxxxxxxxxx

I have found at least one Gyroid fragment on any island I visited by boat, and  on one occasion at least, two.  After rain, one sometimes can dig up a Gyroid instead.

Islands so far have shown you can travel to a different climate or season.  On one, all the Sakura were in bloom and I could catch Cherry blossoms.   On the beach, a DIY for a cherry blossom rug.

Islands where all the trees are Coconuts often have vines and
Glowing moss.  On these Islands, you should find a DIY bottle on the beach with a recipe that uses vines.

One of the most interesting islands had rocks that delivered different seasonal star fragments.  There were shooting stars in the sky, and Gemini Closet DIY although it is November on my island.

I have discovered an island can be any season.  This means that an island that has autumn trees may deliver pinecone and acorns.  I found cherry petals on another.

I found an Island with Summer Shells on the beach.  The DIY in the bottle was a Summer Shell item.  The insects and fish were Summer varieties.  Thus, Kappa trips can allow you to visit different seasons.

Crops can be purchased in season from Leif or found randomly on an island to which the Kappa takes you.  Note rear Planting the crops as starts earn you Nook Miles.  Transplanting crops does not count.
Crops include:

Pumpkins
Tomatoes
Sugarcane
Wheat
Potatoes

The following can be found, but not replanted:
Glowing Moss
N.B.  You will find a DIY that uses Glowing Moss or Vines on any Island where it is found with the Vines.
Planting Crops
xxxxxxxxxxxxx

There are three ways to plant Croos.  One is by purchasing the starts from Leif.  The second is by uprooting a ripe plant on one if the islands you visit by boat, taking it home, and replanting it.  The third is by taking the actual harvested Crop and choosing the 'Plant' option in the same way you would plant a Fruit.

Crops and Cooking:

As with Pumpkins, watering is not required but allegedly brings a better harvest.  Crops probably are seasonal, but I have to prove this.  Leif came to sell Wheat in July in the Southern Hemisphere, but whether that was random or seasonal will be disclosed as time passes.

Cooking requires special stoves, and you will not unlock Cooking until you redeem the app using Nook Miles.  After that, you can purchase some basic recipes at Nooks from the cabinet.

Incidentally,  although you will receive a receive a recipe for a beautiful stove,  the old clay furnace will allow you to cook as well.

The new kitchen stove is the Stonework Kitchen, made with 30 Stone, 15 Clay, 10 Iron Nuggets.  It can be customised and can be placed anywhere.

There are other Kitchens that can be used that can be purchased from Nook's.  You can walk into the house of any animal that has a Kitchen to cook there as well.

Now you may open a message bottle to find a recipe or when you visit an Animal's House, find her Cooking instead of crafting.  Without having bought the app, you will be unable to obtain the recipe from the animal.  I sent a second character for a duplicate and the Animal told me to learn to cook first.

You can obtain recipes by catching specific fish like the Sea Bass.  I expect there are sea creatures that cause your character to think of a recipe as well.  I will add these.

Knowing the ingredients needed for a dish does not allow you to make it.  The only reason I am listing these is for values.

Storage
xxxxxxxx

Among the new items that can be redeemed using Nook Miles are two Storage items:
Wooden Storage Shed: 6000 Miles (DIY)
Requires: 30 Softwood, 30 Wood, 30 Hardwood, 10 Iron Nuggets*
Storage Shed: 6000 Miles

The Storage Shed is incredibly useful.  It does not add to your existing storage, but allows you to access it.  When you open the door, you have the option to store an item or take an item our of storage.  I have my Stonework Kitchen outside, and now have a Wooden Storage Shed next to it so that I can access ingredients for cooking instantly.   It can be useful to place a Storage Shed next to your crafting bench as well.

*Remember that, if you use a Flimsy or Stone Axe, you can knock out three random pieces of wood from any tree daily without destroying the tree.

Values of Cooked Dishes:

I do not intend to list all recipes, but you can see the logic of the values.  Fruit is worth less than Crops.

Crop values:

Tomato: 350 Bells
Carrot: 350 Bells
Sugarcane: 350 Bells
Wheat: 350 Bells

Crop dishes:

Juices and Smoothies
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Tomato Juice: Tomato x 2: 840
Bells
Tomato Puree: Tomato x 3: 1260 Bells
Apple Smoothie: Apples x 2: 300 Bells
Pear Smoothie: Pears x 2: 300 Bells
Note that a Smoothie value does not change depending on whether native or foreign fruit.
What this means is that you finally make a good profit on your native fruit!  You make a loss, however,  if you turn foreign fruit into Smoothies.

Cherry Jelly: Cherry x 2: 300 Bells
N.B.  I was a little shocked to see the low value here.  It is obvious crop dishes are more valuable than fruit drinks or dishes.

NOTE THAT MAKING A JUICE OR SMOOTHIE WITH YOUR NATIVE FRUIT NOW GIVES YOU A CHANCE TO SELL NATIVE FRUIT FOR 300 Bells essentially.  As the recipe requires two of the fruit, foreign fruit is reduced in value.

About Flour and Sugar:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

You will need 5 Wheat or 5 Sugarcane to process the raw material, but you can choose to make any type of product, and you obtain 10 Bags

Flour: Wheat x 5:  210 Bells
Wheat Flour: Wheat x 5: 210 Bells
Sugar: Sugarcane x 5; 210 Bells
Brown Sugar: Sugarcane x 5: 210 Bells

Apple Pie: 3 Flour, 2 Sugar, 2 Apple: 1880 Bells
Orange Tart: Flour, Sugar, Orange: 780 Bells
Pancakes: Flour x 2, Sugar x 2: 1260 Bells
Plain Cupcakes: Flour, Sugar: 630 Bells
Brown Sugar Cupcakes: Whole Wheat Flour, Brown Sugar: 630 Bells
Coconut Cookies: Flour, Sugar, Coconut: 1010 Bells
Pickled Veggies: Tomato, Potato, Carrot, Orange Pumpkin: 2100 Bells
Tomato Curry: Flour x 3, Tomato x 3: 2520 Bells
Organic Bread: Whole Wheat Flour x 3: 950 Bells
Carrot Potage: Flour, Carrot x 2: 1370 Bells
Tomate Al ajillo: Tomato x 3: 1260 Bells
Gnocchi di patate: 2210 Bells
Mushroom Pizza: Flour x 3, Round Mushroom x 2, Flat Mushroom x 2:
Pizza Margherita: Flour x 3, Tomato x 2: 2000 Bells
Tomato Bagel Sqndwich: 2 Flour, 3 Tomato: 2210 Bells
Spaghetti Napolitan: 3 Flour, 1 Tomato Purée: 2210 Bells

Fish Dishes:
xxxxxxxxxxx

You learn most fish dishes when you catch a fish that is used in the dish.  Other recipes are obtained in Message Bottles or when you visit an animal, but the Fish recipes tend to be a result of obtaining the fish in question and becoming inspired.

Sea Bass Pie: Flour x 3, Sea Bass:
Aji Fry: Horse Mackerel, Flour
Grilled Sea Bass with Herbs: Sea Bass, 5 Weeds: 540 Bells
Karei No Nitsuke: Dab
Pesce al'acqua pazza: Red Snapper, Tomato, Manila Clam: 4140 Bells
Squid Ink Spaghetti: Flour x 3, Squid;
Squid ink Curry: Flour x 3, Squid

Cooked Dishes from Nooks and Balloons:

Like the Festival Dishes that are sold as Special Items seasonally, you can find Cooked Dishes for sale at Nooks and in Balloons.  These, once added to your Catalogue, can be ordered.  They include:

Hearty Ramen: 800 Bells

There are many, which I shall not list.  If you choose to consume them, they will give you extra energy.  Not certain if the effect lasts longer than a Fruit.   I do not eat often in this game.  I do know that Animals do not always give you a gift in return if you give them a Crop or Coffee , or something like Hearty Ramen.   Colton exclaimed 'Gasp! Swoon!  How did you know I was craving a Hearty Ramen?', but simply bagged it and walked away.  On the other hand, I gave a wolf named Audie a Tomato, and she gave me a Plover Dress.  It may be that, as in other games, each Animal type has its own preferences.

Special DIYs:
xxxxxxxxxxx

Ruined Arch
Suspicious Cauldron
Rope-net Flooring
Vine Hanging Chair
Glow in the Dark Stickers
Glowing Moss Pointed Cap
Glowing Moss Dress

There are others that are made using the Vines or the Glowing Moss.

Other Building items:

Medieval Building Side: 9800 Bells
Appears randomly at Nooks.  I expect there are other Medieval items that can be joined to the Castle Set to create a Medieval village or landscape.

DIYs in Balloons
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Many of the seasonal DIYs are found only by popping balloons.  It is very difficult to collect them often as Balloons can contain other items as well.  This is a tip for new players.  Keep your game open and stand on the beach near the top of your island, turning the volume up so you can hear the Balloons before you see them and can shoot them down over the beach.
Gyroid
xxxxxx

Instead of different sizes, they cone in different colours and each type has its unique sgape and sound.  Here are some:

Boioingoid
Bwongoid
Doctors
Sproingoid
Tremoloid
Arfoid*
* Barks like a dog!

There are many more.  They come in different colours, but you can customise them yourself as well.

Brewster Progressions
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Blathers initially will give you a picture of Brewster and tell you he is a gyroid collector.  This is a hint to take the Kappa boat to a new island where you will find Blathers exploring.  Speak to him after digging up the gyroid and fragment.  He then opened the Roost in the museum.
1.  Sit at the counter to order coffee.
2.  He will tell you that you can order coffee to go from the other counter.
3.  He will stop you on the way out and give you a recipe for cookies.
4.  He will begin to add pigeon milk to your coffee.
5.  He will stop you on the way out and give you coffee beans, an item.
6.  Blathers will visit and tell Brewster how much the Roost has boosted museum attendance.
