Farming Science Quest and Beaker Collections Mission

A new 11 day Quest in tandem with a Collections Mission has been released.   The traditional Quest sequence will give you the usual Rewards in terms of Coins, XP and a Decoration for the Seaside Farm as well as one for the Island Farm, but please note that it does not include any Rewards in the form of Festival Medals or Lucky Tokens.   If you like a laboratory motif on your farm, you may like the Decorations.  I personally am not impressed with either much.  The new Juneberry Tree, Reward for completing the Collections Mission, is very pretty.

The Collections Mission is as follows:

Collect Beakers
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

70 Turquoise Beakers from Chardonnay

50 Purple Beakers from Peacock Feather

30 Red Beakers from Wheat Bread

10 Yellow Beakers from Macadamia Tree

Reward:  Juneberry Tree

If you prefer not to complete the Collections Mission, you can choose to purchase the Juneberry Tree in the Market for 7 RC instead.

Premium Items Needed
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

A number of Premium Items are needed to complete the Quest, including the Macadamia Tree that is needed both for the Collections Mission and for Quest Recipes.  Other Premium Items you will need are a Banana Tree, either an Ice Tree or Ice Dolphin to produce Ice Cubes and an Ice Cream Machine.  You will need the Baking Soda Collectable as well.  If you do not have this Collectable, purchase it as soon as possible unless you intend to pay RC for each Baking Soda needed.  You will need a total of 8 for the Volcano Cakes and another 8 Baking Soda to make Baking Powder in a later task.

Strategies for Quest
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

A number of Recipes that have been featured in these time-restricted Quests lately require large amounts of ingredients such as Milk, Cheddar Cheese and Honey.  New players who may be unfamiliar with the game may need to be aware of the fact that these items, as well as Wheat Flour, can be requested as well as given each day as a Free Gift to/from your Neighbours.  This is the best way to accumulate these items in large quantities.

A recent addition to the game is the Special Deal Menu.  This offers 100 OP and 5 Power Daily for 5000 Coins each as well as a second purchase of these amounts for 1 RC each.  In another tab in the same Menu are the Weekly Deals that refresh every Friday.  These include a Farming Package for 15 RC that offers both types of Fertiliser and Watering Cans.  If you have not been playing for a long time, you may find these 'Special Deals' invaluable, especially for Quest tasks that are time-restricted.  There are three other Weekly Deal packages but I feel the most useful in this respect is the Farming Package.

The Reward for the Collections Mission, the Juneberry Tree, is placed fairly early in the sequence, in Farming Science 6.  If you opt to purchase the Tree in the Market instead, you will be able to place the Tree at the very start of the Quest sequence, allowing you to collect from it a couple of times even without using Watering Cans.  If not, however, you need to complete the Collections Mission by the time you reach Farming Science 6.  There is absolutely no point in using 10 RC to skip that task.  It would be better to buy the actual Tree for 7 RC.

Neighbour Requests
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The traditional Quest sequence includes a total of THREE separate tasks that require you to ask Neighbours for 20 items.  If you are not in a hurry to complete the Quest, you need not worry about the number of requests you send out each time, but if you wish to complete the entire Quest sequence in a single day, you will have to divide your Requests into three...  I always refrain from making any Neighbour requests the night before a time-restricted Quest is due to begin as I want to have as many Requests available as possible.

Collecting Products
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Fairly recent additions to Family Farm Seaside include the Research Laboratory with an 'Active Tech' called Gold Finger and new Upgraders in the form of the Dutch Mill Upgrader and Chicken Coop Upgrader.  You now have a choice of methods in terms of collecting products in bulk.

The easiest way to collect probably still is Batch Production, although it can prove costly in terms of the OP required.  The Upgraders allow you to collect MORE products but you cannot use Batch Production with an Upgrader.  What you CAN use at any time, if you have sufficient Farmium and have unlocked and made any necessary upgrades to the Tech, is Gold Finger.  The Gold Finger Tech allows you to collect products instantly from a number of Animals and Machines WITHOUT USING ANY INGREDIENTS!  I love it for this reason.  At the final Level 5 upgrade, you can collect from ANY Animal or Machine but the ones that were not unlocked at lower levels DO require ingredients.  For most players, Gold Finger is most useful at Level 4 because it is fairly easy to upgrade it to that level and that allows you to use it on Holstein Cow, Buffalo, Chicken Coop, Rabbit, Pig, Goat, Dutch Mill, Cheese Master, Baker, Wine Maker and Burger Machine without needing ingredients for any of these.

What is interesting here is that the Gold Finger Tech can be used in tandem with the Upgraders, where Batch Production cannot.  You can use Gold Finger as well on a Machine or Animal that currently is involved in batch production if necessary.  (For example, if you have input the wrong total and need 10 more of the product...)

I did not like the entire concept of a Research Laboratory on my Farm and still prefer the old game with its simplicity but I have to confess that I like Gold Finger!  So even if you, like me, are not particularly enthusiastic about the Laboratory, you may wish to unlock and upgrade Gold Finger at least.

Botanic Garden
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The very last group of tasks in the traditional Quest sequence requires that you tend flowers in the Botanic Garden six times.  Try to refrain from tending your Garden when you approach the later groups of tasks if you wish to complete the Quest without delay.  Otherwise, simply wait it out.  There is no way to speed this task apart from skipping it completely.

As far as Island Tasks in this Quest are concerned, probably the most advanced is that of making the Garlic Bread, which requires Mastery of the Flavoured Bread Machine.  You will need access to the Botanic Garden as well, requiring a number of Island expansions.

Good job!  We should now be prepared and ready to start!

Farming Science 3

Darryl:  Everything you see here is preparation for the big science fair!  All the kids from my school and even some of our teachers are participating!  It was all my idea!  We definitely will need some snacks to be prepared!

  Skip for 10 RD

Harvest 40 Love Fruits

Farming Science 5
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Darryl:  For all of our experiemtns, we are going to need a lot of ingredients.  The good news is ingredients can easily be made right here on our farm!  Let's get started before our visitors start arriving!

Collect 50 Eggs
  Skip for 12 RC

N.B.  This is a good opportunity to use the new Chicken Coop Upgrader.  It will be more tedious than Batch Production UNLESS you use Gold Finger with it.  You then can collect your 50 Eggs without needing 50 Corn as well as working towards the amount of Eggs required for the next upgrade of the Upgrader.  (First upgrade requires production of 100 Eggs, 20000 Coins and 3 Hand Rakes.  Once you have upgraded it to Level 2, you can purchase a Super Egg Container that will allow you to add and collect 2 more products.  It is expensive though at 35 RC.)

Prepare 8 Sour Cream
  Skip for 8 RC
Each requires 2 Buffalo Milk and 2 Butter
Each Butter requires 2 Milk to make.

Produce 50 Sugar
  Skip for 12 RC

Reward: 2500 Coins, 180 XP

Darryl:  Awesome!  This should be enough for now!

Farming Science 6
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Darryl:  For some of our tasty experiements we will need a special tree on the farm.  Please help me collect all the colourful beakers to obtain the Juneberry Tree!  (Eugenia:  This is interesting in that it is the first time a character has acknowledged the Collections Mission!)

Place Juneberry Tree on the Farm
  Reward from Collection Mission
(Can be purchased from Market for 7 RC if you prefer)
  Skip for 10 RC

N.B.  If you do not wish to complete the Collections Mission, it is far better to buy the tree in the Market for 7 RC than to skip this task for 10 RC!

Produce 40 Love Cakes
  Skip for 12 RC

For lower level players, making 40 Love Cakes is the current Weekly Activity, I believe...  As of today, you have one more day to complete this Weekly Activity, so if you coordinate it with this task, you can kill two of the proverbial birds with a single stone.

Prepare 8 Sugar Cubes
  Skip for 8 RC
Each requires 2 Sugar to make.

Reward: 2500 Coins, 180 XP

Darryl:  Great!  Now we have another wonderful and useful tree for our Farm!

  Skip for 20 RC

Prepare 8 Juneberry Dots
  Skip for 8 RC
Each requires 2 Cottage Cheese and 1 Juneberry

Fish 8 times using the Squid Hook
  Skip for 8 RC

N.B.  When the gauge is full, you have a total of 7 fishing tries.  If you do not wish to pay RC or wait for them to be restored over time, simply MISS one of them and you will achieve the completion of this task.

Reward: 2500 Coins, 190 XP

Darryl:  Yippee!  Now we are ready to roll!

Farming Science 8
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  Skip for 8 RC

Reward: 2500 Coins, 190 XP

Special Reward: DNA Strand Shaped Plant Decoration for Seaside Farm

Darryl:  What a success!  Look how many crystals we made!

The second half of the traditional Quest sequence will require a higher Level of Experience, usually Level 26.  (It varies with each Quest ordinarily).  You will need access to the Island as well to complete all tasks.

Farming Science 9
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Darryl:  More visitors are arriving.  Let's take every one to the Beauty Department!  This is Grandma's area of expertise.  She will teach every one how to make natural homemade remedies for skin care!

Prepare 8 Glowing Tonic Water
  Skip for 8 RC
Each requires 1 Virgin Vesper Martinia and 1 Ice Cube
Each Virgin Vesper Martini requires 2 Lemons and 2 Apple Juice

Harvest 8 Bananas
  Skip for 8 RC

Produce 10 Banana Cakes
  Skip for 10 RC

Reward: 2500 Coins, 200 XP

Darryl:  See?  How simple is that?  Just make ice cubes out of tonic water and it will glow!

Farming Science 11
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Darryl:  Hmm, what's that smoke coming from Grandpa's lab?  Can you cover for me here while I check to see what's going on over there?

Harvest 50 Garlic
  Skip for 12 RC
This is an Island Crop but not one that requires special Dev Point totals.

  Skip for 12 RC

Divide the Alpaca Hair between Zeppelins to speed the transport.

Reward: 2500 Coins, 210 XP

Darryl:  I'm back!  Thanks for keeping an eye on things!  Grandpa is fine, he's just working on his new inventions!  Ah?  My face is dirty again?

Farming Science 12
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Darryl:  Our visitors seem to be having a great time, but the best is yet to come!  Do you want to visit our kitchen?  Felicia is preparing something very astonishing.  She has been practicing a lot for this.  Let's cheer her on!

  Skip for 12 RC
  This is an Island Task

Note that production of Alpaca Hair Yarn requires an advanced Mastery of the Spinning Machine.

Farming Science 13
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Darryl:  These badges are so cool!  Can I have one for myself?

Farming Science 14
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Darryl:  Have you ever created a hybrid fusion of anything in your life?  Only flowers in the garden?  No?  Here is your chance to do it!  Let's combine 2 types of dishes and create another one!  Can you guess what we're going to make?

Produce 20 Garlic Bread
  Skip for 20 RC
  This is an Island Task

The price of skipping this task is BRUTAL...  If you don't have the Flavoured Bread Machine or the required Mastery to make the Garlic Bread, you will be spending far too much RC to complete THIS Quest in my view but it depends on how badly you want the Decoration I suppose.

Harvest 60 Eggplants
  Skip for 15 RC

Prepare 6 Baking Powder
  Skip for 6 RC
Each requires 1 Baking Soda and 2 Cornmeal

Darryl:  How do you like our new recipe?  It took the best of both dishes!
