The Coffee House, Easter Picnic Base and Festival Mystrons

Recently, a new update included new buildings in the form of the Research Laboratory, the Coffee House and the Stove House.  The writing is on the wall... Family Farm Seasides is in danger of becoming a clone of the Zynga mobile games such as FarmVille 2: Country Escape and Castleville.  I personally deprecate the trend.  I do not play ANY Zynga games now.  They became too frantic and tiresome for me.  I loved Family Farm Seaside because it was a FARMING game, pure and simple.  Yes, there were machines and then the Kitchen, but primarily, the game relied upon Quests with storylines, farming and animal husbandry.

Now with the Research Laboratory, the Upgraders, the Coffee House and the Stove House, players are being asked to invest an entire REAL life in the game, performing tasks that amount to busy work as well as tasks that ultimately are geared towards expenditure of RC, which is premium cash.

That having been said, I now will explain how the Easter Picnic Base, the Coffee House and the Festival Mystrons are linked.

The Easter Base
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The newest seasonal Base in the Easter Base.  You can buy it in the Market for 3000 Coins if you are at Level 23 or higher.  When completed, it will have a Charm Point value of 24.  The building of this base is different from previous seasonal bases in that ALL materials must be purchased with Festival Mystrons.

I have listed all the items that can be stacked on every single base at the end of this post.  Now, however, you really do not need my list as whenever you use the Move Tool on a  Base, you will see a new option to use a Magnifying Glass.  Tap on that and you will see a list of all the items that can be stacked on that base, their positions and if you select any item, a preview of how it will appear on the base!

Each week, there are different activities that give the Festival Mystrons... which brings me to the Coffee House

The Coffee House
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The Coffee House is a sort of clearinghouse for every possible activity or task in Family Farm Seaside.  When you first purchase it, you will have two Character that each give four 'Orders' daily.  They differ from the Daily Order Board in two ways.  First of all, the Orders cannot be changed or 'refreshed'.  You either do them or pay RC to complete them.  Second, where the Daily Order Board consists of orders for Crops, Animal Products, Machine Products, Cooked Dishes and Beauty Shop Products, the Coffee House can ask for these OR generate almost every task found in Missions.  For example, it can ask you to plant and harvest x amount of Crops, to produce X amount of product from any Animal or Machine, to request specific Items from Neighbours, to visit X number of Neighbours or to perform a mini-Collections Mission that is specific only to your Farm.    It can be quite onerous, especially to lower level farmers who barely can complete their Daily Order Boards.  Nonetheless, it is here that you obtain the greatest number of Festival Mystrons this week.

The Coffee House costs 1000 Coins and will be complete when purchased.  Once purchased and placed, it cannot be sold.  It can be placed either on your Farm or on a Building Plot.  At the start, you will have two Characters with 4 Orders each day.   One looks like Grandma and the other resembles Felicia.

Each Order has a little reward in the form of coins and pink Smileys.   You must obtain a total of 35 of these little pink Smileys in order to be able to obtain a REAL Smiley.  It is the real Smileys that unlock other Characters as well as new Stove House Recipes.

Completing Grandma's 4 Orders gives you 2 Blue Mystrons, 30 Festival Mystrons and 20 Lucky Tokens.  Completing the young girl's 4 Orders (Felicia?) gives you 2 Blue Mystrons and 30 Festival Mystrons.  You unlock more Characters by obtaining

Filling a Product Order:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

This is no different from an Order on the Daily Order Board.  You will be given an Order for x amount of an item, whether a Crop, Animal Product, Machine Product, Cooked Dish or Beauty Shop Product.

Farming Order
xxxxxxxxxxxxx

For this one, you actually need to plant and harvest x amount of the Crop required.   Unlike the Product Order, you cannot use items from your Barn.

Neighbour Visits
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

It appears that neighbour Visits that were performed prior to viewing the Order will count.  You need to complete the total required to obtain the Reward.  I have not seen any requirement to fertilise or harvest or perform any specific activity on the Neighbour's farm so far.

Neighbour Request Items
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

These can be new items or items from previous quests.  On Harvest Moon FDC, having played for almost four years now and never traded anything, I find that I often have the items that are required to complete the Order without having to request any items from my Neighbours again.

Mini-Collection Quest
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

These usually consist of a requirement to collect two different items from two different Crops or Trees or Animals or a combination of these.  You have to harvest the Crops to randomly receive the items needed as in any ordinary Collections Mission.  It is slightly annoying as you will not receive an item each time the harvest is made.

The other methods by which you obtain Festival Mystrons are by placing a Buddy Easter Egg and having your Buddy's build it, by tending your Buddies' Easter Eggs, by completing the Daily Quest path and opening all the Treasure Chests and by participating in the current Farm Beauty Contest.  You will receive a couple of Festival Mystrons when you obtain the Treasure Chest reward for having voted and each step on the Reward Path gives Festival Mystrons as well.  The Farm Beauty Contest Rewards begin with 5 Festival Mystrons but as you move up, you will receive 10 and then 15 for each Reward point you reach.

International Eggs
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The Festival Mystrons can be traded in a special seasonal Festival Mystrons Shop found in the Mystery Shops menu.  Each material for the Easter Picnic Base requires 60 Festival Mystrons.  The International Eggs are found randomly in this Shop as well for 300 Festival Mystrons each.

Initially, you only could purchase the International Eggs with Festival Mystrons but now they are found randomly on the Lucky Wheel and thus in Buddy Share Boxes where each can be purchased for 5 RC.

If you intend to complete your Easter Picnic Base, you may wish to use all of your Festival Mystrons on Materials and if you have a desire for a specific Egg, try to spin the Lucky Wheel for it or look in a Buddy Share Box.  You need to be at Level 2 with your Buddy to be able to access his/her Share Box and this can be done only if you visit the Neighbour/Buddy from your Mainland (Original) Farm.  If you travel to it from the Island, you will be unable to gain access to the Share Box.

The International Eggs now have been added to the Gallery so register them if you have them.  A 'great Gallery' is one of the Voting values in the Farm Beauty Contest for two of the Characters.  The Eggs will count for less than a Decoration like the Boy Cupid, but it still is worth doing.  It is your Gallery Level probably that determines the number of Votes you will receive for it.

Stackable Decorations for the Easter Picnic Base
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Stackable Decorations for your completed Easter Picnic Base include the following:  Bunny in Basket, Chicken in Egg, Easter Backdrop, Tree Arch, Flower Pot Bunny, all International Eggs, Bouquet Bunny, Egged in Bunny, Easter Lamp, Wind Chimes, Ranch Bell and I daresay the Garden Torch.

ALL BASES AND THEIR DECORATIONS
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Decorations for Bases
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

A member of my Family Farm Seaside Freyashawk Group on Facebook asked for a list of items that can be placed on the various bases so I am adding a section here for that information.

Generally speaking, with the exception of the Bird Home Bases that are interchangeable, Decorations generally are Base-specific.  In other words, if a Decoration goes on one Base, you will be unable to place it on any other Base.

There are a couple of exceptions to this, however, in the form of the Snowman and Snow Man that can be placed both on the Snow Base and the Ice Base.

So far, the only Bases that are available on a permanent basis in the Market are the Bird Bases.  The Bird Bases are linked to the Time Machine in the Gallery wherein the completion of two-part Missions will give a Decoration as a Reward.  These Decorations can be placed on the Bird Base.  So far, there are only 8 Missions and thus 8 Decorations.  You can place them on one or two Bird Bases, however.  A Base has a limit of four Decorations.

The Bird Base Decorations are not cleanable, but the Bird Base itself will give a Blue Box when cleaned.  All other Bases so far have been seasonal in nature.

The current Animations that occur when you place specific Decorations together on a Bird Base all are linked to the Farm Bird House.  The Farm Bird House when placed with the Hamster Friend allows another Hamster to exit the house to eat from the food dish while the first Hamster runs on his Wheel.  When the Farm Bird House is placed with the Bird Seesaw, a second little yellow bird will exit the house to leap onto the seesaw to play with the first.  When the Farm Bird House is placed with the Bird Pool, the Mini Water Pump and the Bird Ball Pool on the base, the Blue Bird will float on a ball in the Bird Pool, drink from the water in the Mini Water Pump, fly up to use the pump to add more water, then fall asleep to fall off the base to land in the Bird Ball Pool with flying feathers all round.

Lovely Planter Box Base
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

As of 22 February, the following can be placed on the Lovely Planter Box Base.    No doubt others will be added, but at present, these are:

Lovely Mister Cat Decoration, Lovely Lady Cat Decoration, Lovely Heart and Lovely Balloons.  The Lovely Balloons is the Reward for the current Farm Beauty Contest.  I expect that the reward for February, the Lovely Boxwood will be stackable on this base in the position of the Lovely Balloons for players who failed to obtain that Reward.

The alternatives at present are the Boy Grass Hair Deer and Girl Grass Hair Deer.  They can be placed in the positions of the Lovely Mister Cat and the Lovely Lady Cat.  Other alternatives are the Blue Ducky and the Red Ducky who respectively take the place of the Lovely Lady Cat and Lovely Mister Cat as well.  The Mum cannot go on this base at all.

Halloween Base
xxxxxxxxxxxxx

The Halloween Base was the first of the seasonal Bases.  It no longer can be purchased in the Market and all activities that gave Materials have expired.  You can complete the Base if you have it by purchasing the materials you lack using RC.

The following can be placed on the Halloween Stage (Base):  Skeleton Rockstar Frontman, Skeleton Rockstar Diva, Stereo Coffin, Pumpkin Tower and the Ghost Broom.  As always, there is a limit of four items that can be placed.  The Pumpkin Tower and the Ghost Broom occupy the same position on the Stage, so you have to choose between them.  The Pumpkin Light, Wind Chimes, Witch Legs and the Shovel now can be placed on this Base as well.  The Flower Pot now can be placed on the Hallowe'en Stage in the position of the Pumpkin Tower et al.

As of February, two Decorations have been made stackable for this particular base in the form of the Flower Stand and the Mystic Rose.

Thanksgiving Base
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The Thanksgiving Base incorporated more choices from Decorations available in the Market.  These included the Woodpile and the Mushrooms and the Hay.  Other items that can be placed on the Base are the Thanksgiving Turkey, the Colourful Tent, the Indian Hat, the Harvest Hat and the Hedgehog.  The Woodpile occupies the same position as the Indian Hat and Harvest Hat and the Mushrooms occupy the same position as the Hedgehog as does the Lacquer Horn and the Cornucopia.  The Haystack can go in the position of the Indian Hat.

Once again, although one no longer can purchase the Thanksgiving Base in the Market, farmers who were unable to complete the activities associated with the materials can purchase any remaining materials needed for RC.

Snow Base (Christmas)
xxxxxxxxxxxxx

The following should be able to go on the Snow Base:  Tree Reindeer, ALL Snowmen including Snowman, Snow Man, Snow Magician, Bunny Snow Girl, ALL Snow Globes including Snow Globe and Christmas Crystal Ball, Small Snowflake Fence and the Snow Tree Arch . Other arches that initially could not be placed now can, including Tree Arch, Autumn Arch, Welcome Arch, Balloon Door and Welcome Sign, Christmas Wreath Fence and Candle Stand.  All of these now can be placed.  Note that the default position for the Tree Arch will not allow it to be placed on the base.  You must turn it first and then the jigsaw icon will be available to allow placement.

There is a new Decoration that players will receive after 5 Ice Cream Friendship Flowers have been crossbred.  It is the Ice Queen, with a Charm value of 7.  It is a stackable and cleanable Decoration and can be placed on the Snow Base in the position of the Bunny Snow Girl.

Ice Base:
xxxxxxx

Bobo Fishing on Ice, Fish Ice Pond, Snowy Owl, Bobo's Backpack, Ski Penguin, Ice Swan, Ice Cat, Ice Dolphin.  The Ski Penguin can be substituted for Bobo and the Ice Swan, Ice Cat and Ice Dolphin substituted for the Snowy Owl..  Bobo's Fish BBQ now can go on the Base in the position of the Fish Ice Pond.  Thus, he can first catch the fish and then grill it. Bobo Bear's Guitar can go in place of Bobo Bear's Backpack as can his original Backpack.

Research Laboratory
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I have not had time or energy to work through this one to any advanced state yet, but members of my Family Farm Seaside Freyashawk Group are helping with the advanced techs.

Warning:  You can have a total of 600 Farmium initially.  If you earn more Farmium without using the 600 Farmium, it will be wasted.  The total does not increase.  It therefore is necessary to use your Farmium if you want the Farmium you earn by opening Daily Quest Chests to be given to you.

For a start, you have to USE the first option, which is to have Bees gather honey from a beehive again and again before you can unlock any other options.  Note here that only a REGULAR Beehive will be able to be used.  Any of the special Beehives, even if they gather Clover for Honey like the ordinary one, will not be recognised.

The first level is Basic Research.  It uses 50 Farmium each time.  Tap on the Bee to use 50 Farmium to obtain 5 Honey.  The Active Tech is called 'Flight of the Bumblebee'.  You need to use it to reach 120 points to go to Level 2.  You can upgrade your 'Flight of the Bumblebee'  after five uses and 12 Honey, but that will not change the Active Tech.  It only will allow you to collect 7 Honey immediately instead of 5.

Upgrading Flight of the Bumblebee
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

As previously indicated, you can upgrade the techs, but that does not unlock new techs.  It simply makes the existing tech more effective.

Upgrading the Flight of the Bumblebee to Level 2 requires 5 Uses and 12 Honey.  It allows you to collect 7 Honey immediately.

Upgrading to Level 3 requires 20 uses of Flight of the Bumblebee, 30 Honey and 20 Clover.

Upgrading to Level 4 requires 85 uses of Flight of the Bumblebee, 80 Honey and 12 Cheese Salads.

When you have gained 120 points with 'Flight of the Bumblebee', your Laboratory will reach Level 2, unlocking 'Gold Finger'.

Now you can change the Research Topic to use either Flight of the Bumblebee as before or Gold Finger.

At the start using Gold Finger, you can immediately collect 3 products either from a Holstein Cow or from a Cheese Master.

A little mini-quest must be completed before it becomes usable as follows:

Reach Level 13

Produce 10 glasses o Apple Juice
  Skip for 10 RC

Harvest 30 Lavender
  Skip for 15 RC

Grandpa:  You learned a new skill!  Gold Finger can help you save a lot of time!

Reward: 300 Coins, 50 XP

Upgrading Gold Finger
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

At Level 1, you can collect 3 products only from a Holstein Cow or a Cheese Master.  Note that this is possible with the Upgrader as well.

It is at Level 2 that more options are unlocked, allowing you to collect 3 Products instantly from the Angora Rabbit, the Dutch Mill and the Chicken Coop as well as the original Holstein Cow and Cheese Master.

To upgrade to Level 2, you need the following:

12 Uses of Gold Finger
15 Apple Milkshakes

Use of Gold Finger requires only 20 Farmium as opposed to the 50 Farmium required to use the initial Flight of the Bumblebee Tech.

To take your Research Laboratory from Level 2 to Level 3, you need to earn a total of 300 points.  When you reach Level 2, the top left corner will show that you have achieved 120/300.  Note that you can do nothing without Farmium.

Use of the Level 1 Gold Finger Tech gives you 2 Points towards the total of 300 needed to upgrade the Laboratory to Level 3.

Treeology
xxxxxxxxx

First level: The tool is 'Tree Zapper'. You can select a ripe coin tree (no RC trees) and 'zap' it to get 2 extra fruits (3 total) and 100% of the price to buy a new tree. The tree then disappears entirely. There is a little viewfinder to select the tree -  This uses 100 farmium.

Farmium Recharge
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

This is a Passive Tech.

Farmium now recharges 1 Point every 24 minutes.

Requirements to unlock:

Reach Level 16
Use 'Flight of the Bumblebee' 10 times
Use Gold Finger 20 times

Cat-Well-Soon Time-Restricted Quest and Cat Bells Collections Mission

 Cat Bell Collections Mission
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Collect Cat Bells

70 Red Cat Bells from Red Rose

50 Green Cat Bells from White Wine

30 Blue Cat Bells from Grape Jam

10 Golden Cat Bells from Walnut Tree

Reward: Catmint Plant

The Reward is a Collectable which means that you will not be able to find it in the Market before the Quest expires.

The Catmint Plant can be collected every three hours and can produce up to 8 Catmint each time.

Strategies
xxxxxxxxx

Whether you choose to complete the Collections Mission first or perform Cat-Well-Soon Parts 1-7 before completing the Collections Mission as Cat-Well-Soon 8 requires placement of the Catmint Bush, the fact is that you MUST complete the Collections Mission if you want the Catmint Bush because the Reward is a Collectable that does not appear currently in the Market.  You can choose to skip the task of placement for 10 RC and then skip the tasks that require the Catmint if you prefer, but it probably is better to 'bite the bullet' as it were and forge ahead with the Collections Mission.

You will need some Premium Trees in order to perform all the Tasks in the traditional Quest sequence as well as the Collections Mission.  For the Collections Mission, you will need a Walnut Tree.  For the traditional Quest sequence, you will need a Mango Tree, a Hazel Tree and every type of Chocolate.  You can collect Dark Chocolate from a Chocolate Fountain instead of having a Dark Chocolate Tree but you really will need all of these trees again and again, unlike some of the premium Trees that are used in only one or two Recipes.  The Hazel Tree is linked to two different current sale offers, and is required frequently in Family Farm Seaside.  You can purchase it with the Egg Statue or with the Flower Pot Bunny.

ALL of the Trees that are needed are being offered in the current sale.  You can buy a Walnut Tree with the Egged In Bunny (a Theme Decoration),  and you can buy a Dark Chocolate Tree with the Egg Statue, another Theme Decoration.    Finally, the other DIY offer for the Flower Pot Bunny (a Theme Decoration) gives you the option to purchase either a Mango Tree, a White Chocolate Tree or a Dark Chocolate Tree.

You will need some seafood ingredients as well, including six Hairtails and six Scallops.  Unfortunately, you will need 3 Pearls as well.  These are a bonus item received randomly when processing Scallops.  If you have them in your Barn, so much the better.  If not, you may obtain a couple when you process the six Scallops.  They only take a couple of minutes to process in the Seafood House, so even the most impatient player should be able to wait to see if any Pearls emerge.

Apart from these premium items, there are items you can produce in advance for use in tasks.  One of these is 50 Duck Eggs.  Feed a Green Duck Oats to produce Duck Eggs.  You will need these for a task that requires you to make 50 Mayonnaise.  Ingredients that are needed for Tasks and that can be made in advance include Soft Dough (you will make a few as a Task but you will need far more) and Caramel Honey Sauce.  Soft Dough is made with 1 Cake Flour and 1 Batter and Caramel Honey Sauce is made with 1 Caramel and 2 Honey.

The second half of the Quest sequence, as usual, has a few Tasks that require access to the Island.  You will need to have unlocked both the Helicopter Pad and the Botanic Garden by performing the appropriate expansions.  You will need 480 Dev Points to unlock Barley, a Crop you will need to harvest, and you will need 2 Star Mastery of the Watermill to be able to produce Barley Flour, another Island Task in the second half of the Quest sequence.

Other New Options in Seaside
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

A major update was released yesterday that includes three new Buildings inter alia as well as a host of other improvements and modifications to the game.   The post below this one discusses the new buildings in detail.

Some of the actual improvements include the following:

There is a new Sale tab in the regular Market above Currency for 'Special Deal'.  It includes a Daily offer and a Weekly Offer.  At present, you have the following Daily Offers:

5 Power
You can buy two of these.  The first will cost 5000 Coins and the second will cost 1 RC.

100 OP
You can buy two of these.  The first will cost 5000 Coins and the second will cost 1 RC.

Weekly Offer includes the following:

Rain Package: 28 RC
Includes 1 Rain, 1 Thunderstorm and 1 Rainbow Rain

Farming package: 15 RC
Includes 200 Organic Fertiliser, 50 Super Fertiliser, 100 Watering Cans and 25 Super Watering Cans

Weekly Package: 2 RC
This is a gamble basically, giving you one Farm Aid from a specific list randomly.

Mystron Package: 2 RC
This gives you 5 Mystrons of each colour

Fishing Improvment
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

When you fish with any specific hook now, you will see the number of each item that you have in your barn listed next to the icon for that item.  This will help with any task that requires a specific number of a seafood item as well as general restocking of your Barn.

Buddy Visit Improvement
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

You still can perform a total of 5 regular actions on Crops or Trees, including fertilising, harvesting and watering as before, but AFTER this, you can choose to use your own Farm Aids.  I believe the number of times that you can do this depends on your Buddy Level with the Farmer you are visiting.   It does not apply evidently to Neighbours who are not Buddies as I do not see the option when I visit them.

The Easter Picnic Base
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The Base can be purchased in the Market for 3000 Coins.  It has a Charm Point value of 24 but it will have to be completed before that value is applied.  The materials to complete it are purchased with Festival Mystrons.  You will earn 10 Festival Mystrons for each of the first 8 parts of the current Quest.  You will earn 15 Festival Mystrons for each of the parts in the second half of the Cat-Well-Soon Quest that you complete.  The methods by which you can earn Festival Mystrons will change every week.  This week, you can earn them from the current Quest, from voting in the Farm Beauty Contest (when you collect the Gold Treasure Chest afterwards) and from your own Vote Rewards in the Farm Beauty Contest (when you collect them each day after receiving all YOUR Votes).

Each of the Materials for the Base costs 60 Festival Mystrons.  You only can purchase one of each type of Material per day, so the best strategy would be to do that if you are able in the interest of early completion of the Base.

New Lab, Coffee House and other Tech Options in Seaside

A new update has brought three new Buildings to Seaside.  The first is a Research Lab that you have to complete as soon as you enter the game once you have the update.  The others are the Coffee House and the Stove House.  These are purchased from the Building section of the Market for Coins and can be placed either in the Building Plot area or on your farm.  You cannot store them once you have purchased them.

The following is the introduction to the Research Lab:

Research Lab
xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Darryl's Grandpa:  Hey you there!  Looks like you can use some help on your farm.  I am not as good at farming as Darryl though.  How about you help me rebuild my lab so I can find some ways to help you with my tech skills?

Thank you. Now this feels like home... Oh!  Let me show you around the lab.

Some techs require Farmium to power.  Get more Farmium every day from the Daily Quest treasure chests.

This is the research direction we are specialising in.  Right now it's only basic stuff.  We'll get into more as we level up the lab.

Great!  Now let me sho you how to use a tech that helps you produce lots of honey.  Don't worry.  It's really easy.

Tap here to open Tech Tray.  Tap on the Bumblebee icon.  Tap on a highlighted Beehive to instantly produce lots of Honey from ripe clovers.

Amazing job!  Looks like you really have a kncka for this.  Oh I forgot to introduce myself... I am Darryll's grandpa.  Now let me hide before he finds me!

The Tech Tray is next to the Batch Production Tray.  You only can use the Honey option now.

The only option at the start is to gather Honey immediately.  Open the Menu to see:

Level 1:  Immediately pollinate 5 ripe Clovers to receive the Honey.

Level 2:  Immediately pollinate 7 ripe Clovers to receive the Honey.

Upgrade: Flight of the Bumblebees 0/5
Honey: 12/12

You need to use the Flight of the Bumblebees 5 times to get to Level 2.

Each use requires 50 Farmiums  You begin with 200 of these.

The other Techs you can unlock are:

Gold Finger:  Immediately collect 3 products from Holstein Cow or Cheese Master
Requires: Level 2 Lab and unlocking of Flight of the Bumblebee

Farmium Recharge:  Farmium now recharges 1 point every 24 minutes
Requires Level 3 Lab and unlocking of Gold Finger first

Farmium Containers:  Increase your maximum Farmium to 140.
Requires Level 4 Lab and unlocking of Farmium Recharge first.

New Buildings in Market
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

A Coffee House is available in the Buildings section of the Market for 1000 Coins.  Its description:  Customers come here with Daily Requests

A Stove House is available in the Buildings section of the Market for 1000 Coins.  Its description: Challenge your Cooking Skills with some special recipes!

WARNING:  Once purchased, these buildings cannot be stored!

Coffee House
xxxxxxxxxxxx

The Coffee House will be complete upon purchase.   You can place it either in the Building Plot area or on your farm. Tap on it to access customer daily requests.  Completing requests gives you 'smiley' rewards that can be used to purchase/obtain other Rewards, including special Farm Aid bags and so on.

You can access two different Characters for Requests at the start.  One is Grandma and the other is Felicia.

Grandma's Requests:

Example:

Craft 3 Festival Food
Craft 1 Sweet Dumplings

Reward: 280 Coins,1 Pink Smiley
(Evidently you need 35 of these individual Smileys to use the 1 'smiley' that will purchase the first recipe because completing 2 of the orders gave me only 2 out of 35 required)

NOTE THAT YOU CAN USE RC TO FINISH ORDERS AS WELL.  3 RC required to finish an order for 3 Orange Jam Cookies for example.

Other Requests were:

Finish the Quest by harvesting a certain crop or fruit
46 Strawberries
11 Chestnuts

Other Requests required items that were obtained solely through Neighbour requests:

9 Asian Floor Lamps
1 Toothpick

It is very similar to the Daily Order Board but with different rewards and different tasks.  In a way, it is a combination of the Daily Quests and the Daily Order Board.  Any sort of request can be generated randomly from visiting neighbours to cooking specific Dishes to selling specific items.     Furthermore, there is a difference in terms of the actual items requested in the 'Quests' to sell.   They may include items that were requested from Neighbours in past Quests!  It is here that being a packrat benefits a farmer.  I always saved all the extra items rather than trading them so when Grandma requested 9 Asian Floor Lamps, I had them in my Gift Box!

When I completed ALL of Grandma's Quests, I received a grand total of 2 Blue Mystrons.

Felicia's Requests today for me were:

Finish the Quest by cooking certain dishes:

1 Sweet Dumplings
1 Golden Peach Sago Pudding

Finish the Quest by selling certain goods
5 Allspice Crumble

Reward: 300 Coins, 1 Pink Smiley

Finish the Quest by visiting Neighbours

31 Visits

(This means visiting 31 different neighbours, not performing a total of 31 actions on Neighbour farms)

Reward: 300 Coins, 1 pink token

The next Quest was a Collections Mission:

10 Pink New Year Cards
6 Blue Cupcakes

You have only a Chance of getting these by collecting Peacock Feathers

Reward: 300 Coins, 1 Pink Smiley

The first items you can earn with your 'smileys' are:

Champagne Punch Recipe:  1 Smiley required

Lab Storehouse Shelf: 2 Smileys Required

Chili Con Carne Recipe:  3 Smileys Required

Living in Farm Package:  Collect all Smileys from customers and finish all the day's quests to get this reward

Stove House
xxxxxxxxxxxx

The Stove House costs 1000 Coins and is complete upon purchased.

Select a Recipe and move the ingredients into the stove to start cooking.  Ingredients will tranfer Flavour Points to your dish.  You receive 1 point per second.  Collect certain Flavour Points to finish the dish.  Each ingredient gives a specific number of Flavour Points.  Better not overcook them!

Tap the Book to choose the Recipe.  The only recipe available at the start is Macaroni and Cheese.

You need to cook the Macaroni and Cheese 50 times to unlock the next Recipe.  Note here that there are two different aspects to cooking here:  the time needed and the Flavour Point total.  For Macaroni and Cheese, the time is 15 seconds but this time will elapse before  you have reached the maximium Flavour Point total that you can earn.  You need to watch the slider gauge and hit 'Finish' when the gauge reaches 75.  Note that the 15 seconds elapses when the slider gauge is at 50 I believe, so you need to wait for it to reach 75 and then hit Finish there instead.

You can put the Stove on 'Pause' if you need to leave the area temporarily.

There are Quests linked to the new buildings.

Grandma's Present Quest
ssssssssssssssssssssssss

Felicia:  Grandma's Birthday is coming up and I saw a cookbook yesterday that she will love!  But it is a bit expensive!  There was an add in the local paper that they're searching for a waitress in the Coffee House!

Place a Coffee House on your Farm

Prepare 5 Butter Pies
Each requires 1 Batter and 1 Orange Crumble

Sell 1000 worth of items from your Seaside Barn

Rewards: 350 Coins, 15 XP

Felicia:  The Coffee House job was really fun and I made some good money!  More than enough to get the cookbook!  Can't wait to see Grandma's face!

Grandma's Present 2
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Felicia:  Grandma loved the cookbook so much, she got a bit too excited and bought a new stove!  Let's see what she will cook for us!

Place a Stove House on your farm

Prepare 3 Macaroni and Cheese
  Each requires 15S
  Ingredients:  Wheat Flour x 3, Cheddar Cheese x 2, 2 Power

Drag the ingredients into the cooking pot, tap Cook and wait.    Tap Finish when the time has elapsed.  Tap on the Cooked Dish to complete the task and do this two more times for this Quest task.

N.B.  You must cook Macaroni and Cheese 50 times to unlock the next Recipe.  I assume if you do not tap 'Finish before the slider gauge expires, you will burn and lose the Dish.  You basically need to stay at the building watching the stove in order to make the dish perfectly and try to hit the 'Finish' button as soon as it reaches the time given for the specific recipe and the maximum Flavour Point total shown on the slider by the chef's hat.  In the case of Macaroni and Cheese, the maximum flavour point total is 75.

Produce 5 Cheese Burgers

Rewards: 500 Coins, 25 XP

Felicia;  Wow, the dishes are delicious!  Let's practice more to make them even faster and faster!

What do these Options Signify?
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

At this point in time, it is difficult to know whether or not these are simply extras, like the Upgraders or whether they will be required in time-restricted Quests like the Botanic Garden on the Island.  You have no choice but to complete the Research Lab.  Like the Botanic Garden, it completes automatically on land OUTSIDE your Farm and Building Plot areas.  Whether you need to use it or not remains to be seen.

The Coffee House and Stove House are similar to the other Buildings that, once purchased and placed, cannot be deleted.  The Coffee House is like the Daily Order Board, giving a series of Recipes that have to be completed in order to earn specific Rewards.  These are cumulative evidently, rather like the Blue Mystrons that have to be earned in quantity in order to buy a Decoration with them.  The new 'Smileys', however, are not linked to a Mystery Shop but have their own Menu of Rewards inside the Coffee House Menu itself.

The Stove House is an entirely different Kitchen from the regular one with different Recipes.  It probably would be a good idea to try to complete the 50 Macaroni and Cheese at some point to gain a new Recipe as I expect this will feature in the time-restricted Quests.  The ingredients you need are Wheat Flour and Cheddar Cheese, both available as Free Gifts.

Other New Options
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

There are a few other new options that are essentially improvements on existing aspects of the game.

Fishing Totals
xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Now, whenever you fish with a specific hook, the number of each item that you have in your Barn will be shown next to the icon of each item you can catch.  This is very helpful if you wish to replenish your stock in general or if you are fishing for a specific number of an ingredient for a task or activity.

Neighbour Visits
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Now, when you visit any Neighbour or Buddy, AFTER you perform the usual 5 actions of fertilising or harvesting, you can use your own Farm Aids up to three times.

Buddy Farms
xxxxxxxxxxxx

When you increase your Level with a Buddy, you will be able to help on his/her farm more often.

Coffee House and Stove House
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

From Shannon Hurley of our Group:

Chili Con Carne Recipe:
For the recipe you need 4 power and 2 beef, 3 chili peppers (RC tree), 2 adzuki beans (RC tree), and 3 ketchup.  I now have the chef unlocked in the coffee shop. He gives the same reward and pretty much asks for the same type of stuff as the other two.

Stove House Instructions
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Cooking French Fries:

Takes a total of 30 minutes to cook.  The ingredients are Potatoes and Sugar.  Critical to ALL Stove House recipes are the Flavour Points.  Flavour Points are used at a rate of 1 per second.  Potatoes have 1800 Flavour Points but Sugar has only 300 Flavour Points.  If you place both ingredients into the mix immediately, your Sugar will burn in 300 Seconds (about 5 minutes).  The Dish then will FAIL.  (This is where you get Fish Bait).  You need to add the Sugar only in the last 5 minutes.

If you tap on the Clock, you can activate a timer.  Set the timer to 24 minutes.  What this will achieve is that the Stove will pause after 24 minutes, giving you the right time to add the Sugar.  Once the cooking begins again, you wait until your dish gauge reaches the second star, a blue star.  Press Finish now and you will have your French Fries.

Decorations 101 or Everything you Need to Know about Decorations

Last updated on 4 July 2018 with new decorations for Farm Stadium Base.  Updated on 30 June with Sea Base and all stackable Decorations for it.

Note about old Bases in Market:  Recently, old Bases have been added to the Market on a temporary basis in specific seasons.  For example, in April, you can find both the Easter Picnic Base and the Springtime Base in the Decorations section of the Market.  The Easter Picnic Base can be purchased for 3000 Coins but will be unfinished.  I believe the cost of completing it from the base itself by purchasing all materials for 1 RC each is 34 RC.  You can find a special deal in the Daily Deals section of the Market in the form of an Easter Picnic Base Materials Bag for 20 RC.  That Bag contains ALL Materials to complete the Base.  The Springtime Base is available in the Decorations section of the Market for 20 RC but when purchased is complete.  It is rather odd that they do not sell both Bases in completed form for 20 RC each but that is how they organised the sale.  You can own a total of 3 Easter Picnic Bases and 2 Springtime Bases.  Do remember that these are seasonal items and will be replaced in the Market with other seasonal Bases.

The only permanent Base in the Decorations section of the Market is the Bird Home Base.  This Base when purchased is complete and you can own two but the price of the second is greater than the price of the first.

Introduction to Bases
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Even farmers who have been playing for awhile appear to have problems with the classification of Decorations in Seaside, which is what has prompted me to write this post.

First of all, there are a number of different ways to acquire a Decoration.  One is by purchasing it in the regular Market or in one of the Mystery Shops.  Another is by purchasing the Decoration through a special sale offer.  Finally, one can earn or win a Decoration either by completing a time-restricted Mission or a Cooking Stand Contest or as a Farm Beauty Contest Reward.   The Lucky Wheel and Buddy Share Boxes now usually offer old Decorations linked to past Missions.  Decorations that are obtained through completion of a time-restricted Mission give Purple Gift Boxes as are those that are added temporarily to the Lucky Wheel.  Those that are given through completion of the appropriate 'Bingo' row in the Cooking Stand Contest give Blue Gift Boxes.  Those that are linked to the Farm Beauty Contests give Gold Gift Boxes.

Note here that you can purchase Decorations sometimes through the Gallery Menu now.  Go to the Decorations tab and search for the Decoration you need.  If available, you will be given the opportunity to purchase it using the currency needed, whether it is Coins, RC, Green Mystrons, Yellow Mystrons or Blue Mystrons.  The Decoration section of the Gallery now will display other information about the Decorations, whether cleanable or not and what colour of Gift Box you will receive if it is a cleanable Decoration as well as if it is stackable on any Base.  Other information displayed with the icon of each Decoration is the value in terms of Landscape Points (formerly Charm Value).

Above, I am including three different Decorations from the Gallery.  The first is the Autumn Arch, giving a Purple Gift Box when cleaned, worth 2 Landscape Points when placed within the sphere of any path and stackable.  The second is the Carousel, an Island Decoration giving an Island Purple Gift Box when cleaned.  It has no Landscape Point value as Island Decorations do not have this.  Remember always that there is only one Gallery and that all Island Items must be registered in this Gallery.  It may be useful to see that you can purchase many of the old Island Decorations from the Gallery using 300 Blue Mystrons.  The final Decoration shown is the Yacht, worth 6 Landscape Points and costing 100 Yellow Mystrons.  It is not cleanable.

Another category of Decoration is the Base.  The ways in which a new Base is obtained can vary.  Sometimes the unfinished Base will be given by Felicia in a Message.  Often, however, you can purchase the Base in the Market for Coins and then build it with various Materials.

In the past year, old Bases have been released seasonally and included as Theme items in the Farm Beauty Contests.  Sometimes the Base itself is sold in finished form, and it then will have an RC price attached to it.  Sometimes it will be sold for 2000 Coins unfinished.  If you have a completed Base of the same type, you usually can purchase two more for a total of 3, but you will have to purchase a special materials Bag using RC (20 RC) usually in the Market to complete the Base.  If, however, you do not own a completed base of the same type, you should be able to purchase the materials needed using the various Mystrons in the Mystery Market departments.  You only can make one purchase per day, however, of any Material sold in the Mystrons Markets.

A completed Base, with one exception, gives Blue Gift Boxes.  There are the two Bird Home Bases that are purchased with RC in the Market and will be complete when purchased.  Most of these Bases give Blue Cleaning Boxes as well.

Last year, a new classification in the form of the Island Blue Box decoration was released.  The only Decoration you actually can purchase that will yield an Island Blue Box Decoration is the Bird Family Decoration.  This is the only Island Blue Box Decoration available to ALL farmers.

So you see, the manner in which you obtain a Decoration can determine the type of Gift Box that is received when it is cleaned.

There is a final type of 'Base' called an Upgrader.  I have written about it elsewhere.  It is used for Animals and Machines and can be stacked with various Gadgets that change the production of the Animal or Machine in question.

This brings me to the classifications of Cleanable and non-Cleanable Decorations.  Although most Decorations can be cleaned, there are some that cannot be cleaned.  Most will give a Gift Box of a specific colour when cleaned, but there are others that give only Coins.  A comprehensive List of ALL cleanable Decorations with their Rewards is given in the following post:

All Cleanable Decorations and their Rewards

There is another division between Decorations for the original Seaside Farm and Decorations for the Island Farm.  They are not interchangable by any means.  A Decoration is linked to a specific Farm always.  Most Island Decorations are cleanable but they give their own special Island Gift Boxes.  I will discuss this separately.

There are three other primary aspects to any Decoration now apart from any Reward it delivers when cleanaed or its inability to be cleaned: its footprint, its Charm Point value and whether or not it is stackable.  Footprint basically is size.  Every item in FFS has a specific footprint.

The 'stackable' concept is recent in FFS.  Stackable Decorations can be placed on Bases but every stackable Decoration is base-specific.  In other words, you cannot place any stackable Decoration on any Base.  You have to have the RIGHT base for it in order to be able to stack it.  Being able to stack Decorations on Bases saves space but when you store the items, the stacked Base falls apart and every item takes a space of its own in the Warehouse.  Thus, you save space only when the items are placed on the Farm and not when they are stored!

As mentioned previously, there is one other type of item that is classified as a Decoration and that is the Upgrader and the Gadgets for the Upgraders.  Technically, even if associated with an Animal or Machine, these are Decorations and go into the Decorations section of your Warehouse when stored.  They have Charm Point values as well.  Only Decorations have Charm Point values.

The Charm Point value, now transformed into the Landscape Point value designated by a green musical note,  are associated with the Farm Beauty Contest.   Decorations originally were given specific Charm Point values.  Now this value only is significant when the Decoration is placed within the sphere of a path.

There is a temporary value that can be given to Decorations and other Items that is linked to the Farm Beauty Contests as well and this is 'Theme'.  Theme is specific to the current Beauty Contest and you will be able to find a list of all Theme Items by tapping on the little book in the Farm Beauty Contest Menu.

Theme Decorations are given a specific number of Votes on a daily basis by one or more of the four Characters when they are placed on the farm during a Farm Beauty Contest.  The Theme Vote value has nothing whatsoever to do with the Charm Point Value of the Decoration and indeed, Theme Vote Values can be given to Animals, Trees and Machines as well as Decorations.  Once the Farm Beauty Contest ends, the Item no longer will have any Theme value.

How can you determine whether or not a Decoration is cleanable?  This is very simple actually.  Any cleanable Decoration has the icon of a cleaning brush to the left of it in the Market.  The Charm Value is given as a number inside a red flower to the right of the picture of the item.  If it is stackable, you will see jigsaw puzzle pieces shaped like a house on the right above the Charm Value.  Every Decoration in the Market does have a Charm Point Value but there are a number of old Decorations that have no Charm Value at all.

As a matter of fact, the Gallery now includes very useful information about all Decorations.  It will give the price and place where the item can be purchased directly, if this is possible, as well as the colour of the Gift Box the item will yield when cleaned AND if the Decoration is stackable.

The Decorations without Charm Point Values actually are not classified as Decorations for the purpose of storage.  They only can be found in the general area of the Warehouse when you choose 'All' and include such items as the Dragon Cave, the Stage, the Marquee, Santa Claus (on a tractor), the Chicken Home, the Soccer Stadium and the Haunted House.  They really are Decorative Buildings that were linked to old Collections Missions.  They can be placed on the Farm but do not add any Charm points to your total.

Previously, duplicate Decorations would add to your Charm Point total but not to your Theme Vote total.  Even Decorations purchased with Coins could be placed in large quantities on your Farm to boost your Charm Point total during a Farm Beauty Contest.  Unfortunately, there were players who were able to cheat, to change the footprint of Decorations and other items in order to 'flatten' them to be able to add more to the Farm than could be added legitimately.  A new change is going into effect that will limit the number of Charm Points gained by placing duplicate Coin Decorations.  This really is to prevent this sort of cheating rather than to penalise farmers who loaded their farms with ladders or firecrackers legitimately to boost their Points.  Mind you, it may make the word 'Beauty' more applicable to farms in future Contests.

Farm Rating
xxxxxxxxxxx

Your Farm has many different ratings, depending on what you are trying to do.  You have your general Experience Level, which is what determines your Farm Level.  There is your Buddy Level with each individual Buddy.  There is the total Charm Point value of your Farm, replaced at one point by Landscape Points and now posted as the total of both your Charm Points and your Landscape Points.  The Charm total is relevant for the purpose of the Farm Beauty Contests and in order to boost Landscape Points when the Decoration is placed within the sphere of influence of a Path.  Charm is otherwise quite irrelevant.  It is Charm Value, Landscape Points and Theme Value are influential where the Votes of the four Characters are concerned, but otherwise, it is quite unimportant!  Once the Contest has concluded, your Charm Point total becomes fairly meaningless until the next Farm Beauty Contest and the Theme will not be valid any longer.

Note, however, that Landscape Point totals can be included as requirements now to unlock new areas of the Mootopia and Wilderness Maps.

Finally, the Farm Beauty Contests only deal with the original Seaside Farm.  Island Decorations are not counted at all.

The Value of Cleanable Decorations
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The Decorations that yield Blue Gift Boxes and Golden Gift Boxes on your original Seaside Farm and those that yield EITHER colour on the Island Farm are the most important Decorations in terms of value as the Boxes you receive contain valuable Farm Aids, such as Power, OP and others, including Watering Cans and Green Mystrons.  The new light blue Island Blue Boxes introduced recently are considered the most valuable of the Island Gift Boxes.  The only Decoration that has been available to the general public that offers a light blue Island Blue Gift Box is the Bird Family, sold in a special sale offer.

Coin Decorations may be the least valuable BUT if you are involved in the Buddy System, they count as much as any other in terms of giving you the Buddy Point you can receive on a daily basis when you clean ANY Decoration on a Buddy's Farm.  It therefore is important for players to try to keep Cleanable Decorations on their Farms, even if they only yield Coins, if they want to participate in the Buddy System.

What Decorations should you Buy?
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

There are a number of different methods by which Cleanable or Theme Decorations can be obtained.  Originally, there were two Cleanable Decorations linked to every time-restricted Quest.  One was for the original Seaside Farm and the other was for the Island.  Both yield Purple Gift Boxes, although the Island Purple Gift Box is a little different from the mainland one.  The two special Rewards for completing time-restricted 11 day Missions changed repeatedly and now usually consist of a new pair of Ears, Hair or Base for the Pet House and a final Reward in the form of a Decoration for Seaside.  That reward Decoration still is linked to a Purple Gift Box.  You can find old Missions often in the Lighthouse now and if you activate and complete them, you can receive the original Decoration Reward or Rewards.  The 'final' reward for completing the Cooking Stand Contest is a Decoration that yields a Blue Gift Box.  You can receive it earlier if you are lucky enough to complete the diagonal row that determines its release.  The various Bases that you purchase in the Market and then complete through various activities usually give Blue Gift Boxes.

There are a few Decorations in the Market that give Blue Gift Boxes as well.  Other than this, the primary method of obtaining a Decoration that yields a Blue Gift Box is by using real money in a special time-restricted sale offer.

Theme Decorations for specific Farm Beauty Contests now appear in the Share Boxes of your Buddies as well as randomly appearing on your own Lucky Wheel.  They tend to cost a fair amount of RC though and many are not even cleanable.  When faced with a choice as to whether to spend 20 RC on a Theme Decoration that is not cleanable or to go into the Market to purchase a Market Stall for 20 RC, I would recommend the latter course.  The Market Stall has a Charm value of 18 but more importantly, always yields a Blue Gift Box.  The Cleanable Decorations that are found on the Lucky Wheel do not yield anything better than a Purple Gift Box.

NOTE:  You often can find theme Decorations by accessing an old Mission from the Lighthouse.  Very often, these are the same Decorations that are found in the Lucky Wheel.  If you have not completed the Quest when it originally was released, it may be of benefit to complete it to claim the Decoration as well as the other Rewards.  If a theme item can be obtained from a Lighthouse Mission, I will try to include that information in my post about any Farm Beauty Contest.

If you can afford to invest real money in the game, I personally believe that the special sales offers are the best way to do it.  They usually include RC as well as Farm Aids and a Cleanable Decoration.  Choosing the Decoration that gives a Blue Gift Box or a Gold Gift Box is more beneficial in the long run than those that give Purple Gift Boxes, but ultimately, you should go with your heart.  If you love a particular Decoration, whether or not it is cleanable is irrelevant if it makes you happy to see it on your farm!

Note here, however, that the easiest way to maximise Theme in any Farm Beauty Contest is by having the appropriate Base and buying the new premium Theme Decorations.  The game often will give added vote values to the theme base or bases as well as these premium decorations.  If you are a new player, this is the quickest way to obtain the 4000 Votes needed ultimately to claim the Reward Decoration in the Contest.  These Reward Decorations are featured again and again in the future contests.

List of all Bases
xxxxxxxxxxxxx

In most cases, the Base itself, even without any Decorations on it, will yield a Blue Gift Box when cleaned.  They boost Landscape Points more than ordinary Decorations and if you can stack one with Decorations, Landscape Points are boosted even higher.  Remember always, however, that every path has a limit in terms of how many points can be given, so you need to make certain that you have not placed too many Decorations too close together on your farm next to the paths...

All Bases:

Bird Home Base x 2
Lovely Planter Box Base x 3
Springtime Base x 2
Beach Base x 3
Farm Stadium Base x 3
Snow Base x 3
Thanksgiving Base x 3
Classroom Base
Wedding Base x 2
Farm Pool Base
Ice Base x 3
Easter Picnic Base x 3
Halloween Stage x 3
Green Base

There are three Bases that do not resemble Bases but are actually items that you 'decorate' with specific little Decorations that change their appearance once stacked.  These are:

Thanksgiving Arch
Xmas Tree x 2
Anniversary Cake Base

The game has improved enormously where the Bases are concerned with respect to discovery of all the items that can be stacked on any base.  All you have to do is:

1.  Use the Move Tool on the actual Base and
2.  Use the Magnifying Glass (Search) in the Move Menu to see a preview of ALL Items that can be placed on the Base and the position each will occupy.  Each Base has different totals.  Some allow only a total of 4 items to be 'stacked' but others allow more.

Number of Bases

Recently, instead of creating new Bases for every season or festival, the developers have offered an old Base again with new stackable Decorations.  Originally, the only Base that existed where a player was allowed to have two was the Bird Home Base.  Now, one can own three of almost every Base. S One can own and decorate two separate Xmas Trees.  There is a totally new Base, however, in the form of the Wedding Base.

Stackable Decorations
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

When any item is 'stackable', you will see an extra icon in the Tool Menu in the form of a jigsaw puzzle piece.  This icon indicates that the item can be placed on a Base.  Each stackable item is base-specific.  In other words, it usually can be placed on only one Base although there are Decorations that always can be found in the Market, like the Tree Arch and Wind Chimes that can be stacked on more than one Base!

All Bases with Stackable Item Lists
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The information given below is found by using the Move Tool on any base and then using the Magnifying Glass (Search) tool in that menu.

TIP:  If any Decoration has the jigsaw puzzle icon (stackable), go to the Gallery and tap on the Icon THERE when you access the Decoration to see the Base on which it can be stacked.

Above, the Punching Bag, a Decoration that was earned by completing a special Collection Mission.  As you can see, it can raise Landscape Points by 8 if placed near an appropriate path.  It gives a Purple Gift Box when cleaned and can be stacked on the Farm Stadium Base.  It cannot be purchased from the Market at this point in time.

Above, the Snow Man, a Decoration that can be purchased from the Market in the Green Mystrons Shop for 1500 Green Mystrons.  It can boost Landscape Points by 6 when placed near an appropriate path and it gives a Gold Gift Box when cleaned.  Tapping on the Jigsaw puzzle house icon shows it on the Ice Base.

Gallery Registration
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Another component of items in Seaside is Gallery Registration.  This matters not only in terms of Farm Beauty Contests where Character Votes can be based on having a 'good gallery' but it allows your Gallery to be upgraded when you reach specific totals there.  If you have a new item, ALWAYS try to register it as soon as possible.  Every item has a specific Reward when registered and there are 'Collections' of three items that give RC Rewards when you have registered all three items in the 'set'.

Note that the Gallery Menu has been expanded to allow players to purchase items they are missing through the Gallery itself.  This is particularly useful where Decorations are concerned, as you immediately can see if a Decoration is available and what currency is required to purchase it, whether it is Coins, RC, Green Mystrons, Yellow Mystrons or Blue Mystrons!

Most players will not find this post particularly useful perhaps but those who have not played the game long should find it helpful.

08 March 2016

Happy Easter 8th Farm Beauty Contest

The Happy Easter Farm Beauty Contest is the 8th in the Series and began on 11 March.  Prepare your farm if possible on the 10th for this Contest.

Note that one rule has changed... definitely for the better.  There will be a limit on the number of duplicates of any Coin Purchase Decoration that will count in terms of Charm Points.  This rule was instigated because of the proliferation of farmers who cheated by 'flattening' items in order to be able to place more on their farms.  It is beneficial as well in terms of creating farms with actual 'beauty' rather than farms with hundreds of ladders or firecrackers side by side simply for the purpose of increasing Charm points.

A few of the Theme items were Theme Items in the previous Farm Beauty Contest as well, oddly enough, including the 2 types of Chocolate Trees, the Chocolate Fountain and the Bouquet Bunny.

The Theme Decorations for this Contest are:

Festival Mystrons
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Festival Mystrons have returned and are used now to purchase materials for the Easter  Picnic Base as well as the International Eggs from the past.  There are 19 different International Eggs:  American, Arabic, Brazilian, British, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Greek,  Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Polish,  Russian, Spanish, Thai and Turkish.  Each costs 300 Festival Mystrons.  None are included as Theme items for the Happy Easter Farm Beauty Contest.

Festival Mystrons are given as Rewards in the current Beauty Contest as well as for completing other activities such as the Daily Quest Path and Weekly Activities.

The following is taken from the last Farm Beauty Contest and will be updated if anything else has changed, apart from the limit on the number of each Coin Decoration that will count towards your Charm Total:

Rules for Votes
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Maximum Character Votes
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

To obtain the maximum from each Character as far as the Crops, Animals, Machines and Trees are concerned, this is the total you need to place before taking a photograph:

16 different Crops
21 different Trees
13 different Machines
10 different Animals

As far a 'high level' is concerned, you originally needed to be at Level 160 to have maximum votes for THAT, so most of us fail there, although I think it has been modified to Level 150 for the maximum.  .. as far as Expansions are concerned, you do not need the maximum farm expansion to get the maximum Vote for that.  In fact, even if you do not have the 20 x 20 Expansion, you will get maximum votes for your expansion of your farm.

Note here that Beehives and Butterfly Houses as well as the Bat House are Animals for this purpose.

What Characters Value
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The Characters gave their Votes for the following:

First of all, the idea that every change will be worth 1 Point is misleading.   Originally, the developers wanted to keep it all a mystery.  Now each category is given a total:

Felicia:
Charm Points: 24
Theme Items: 24
Animals: 16
Expansions: 16

Dad:
High Level: 16
Expansions: 16
Machines: 16
Theme Items: 24

Darryl:
Charm Points: 24
Theme Items: 24
Large variety of Crops (used to be Trees): 16
Gallery Registration: 16

Grandma:
High Level: 16
Charm Points: 24
Trees: 16
Gallery Registration: 16

How Character Votes Work

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Now, it is important to remember that 'theme-related Decorations only account for a percentage of the Votes given by Felicia, Darryl and Dad.  I believe that once you achieve the total that is the maximum those Characters can give to you for theme, you will not be able to earn any more Votes from them for THAT, irrespective of the number of Theme Decorations that you purchase and place. Bear this in mind when you are tempted to go mad in the upcoming sales.  Originally you had to purchase the NEW Theme Decorations in order to achieve the maximum of 24 Votes for Theme from each of the three Characters but that may have changed as on the very first day of the Contest, Harvest Moon FDC this time had 24/24 for Theme and 24/24 for Charm.  Now bear in mind the fact that two of the 'new' items in the current sale were offered last year as well so those two were on the farm even before the contest began...  whether they would be considered 'new' or not is another matter.  It is entirely possible that not being able to earn the maximum before one purchased the 'new' theme decorations was a glitch or programming defect that has been fixed.

As for Charm Points, some indication of the maximum total needed for Character Votes can be seen with respect to Rosewood Farm where 1558 Charm gave 23 out of 24 for Charm.  Today added Decorations to give 1578 Charm Points and will see if that allows the final Vote to be given for Charm.  In fact, it did.

Duplicate items count only towards total Charm Points and will not add to the Votes that you receive from any of the four Characters.

Although there is a 'ceiling' to the number of Votes you can earn from the three Characters for Theme or Charm,  there is no limit to the possible Charm Point total for global ratings.  How does this benefit you?  For the Characters who value Charm, once again, you can achieve only a total of 24 Votes each day for that aspect of your Farm from those Characters... once you achieve that, additional Charm points will not be considered by the Characters.  After that total is reached, additional Charm only benefits as far as your global rating is concerned.  It does not affect your Votes from Neighbours.  Each Farmer has 3 Votes per day to give to Neighbours.

The Votes from the four Characters dropped off once the final Reward was received in some of the Contests but continued to accrue in others.   Even after receiving the Avatar Reward, Farmers did continue to receive Votes in at least one of the Farm Beauty Contests.  It remains to be seen whether this one will continue to give Votes or not.

Voting for my Farms
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Of course, I would be thrilled if farmers who used my site would be willing to send their Votes to Harvest Moon or Rosewood Farms.  Winning the Contest may be hopeless but I would love to be able to obtain the special Decoration and the Avatar if possible.   I would like to thank every one who voted for me again.  As I wrote previously, I do not make any money with my site.  I do not have any adverts on it and do not promote anything other than the game itself.  I write the guide because I always find a good guide useful when playing a game and I believe other players feel the same, so if you wish to give me anything, please give your Votes! To do this, tap on the FINAL icon for 'My Neighbours' and then 'Visit' Harvest Moon FDC or Rosewood.  Once at the farm, you can choose to Vote once for it or use all three Votes in quick succession.  That is how the Voting procedure works.  On the left you will see 'My Snapshot' menu where you interact with your own options to post a new secreenshot, collect your Rewards as well as the Votes you are given each day from Characters and Neighbours.  On the right you will see 'Vote for Others'.  Tap on the 'Vote for Others' and you will be given three choices: Random Pick, Great Farmers and My Neighbours.  I personally think 'My Neighbours' is the only really fair option.  You then will be taken to a list of your Neighbours who have entered the Contest.  You have to choose to 'Visit' one in order to be able to vote and you can Vote up to three times either for one farm or for different farms.

Voting for Items
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

There is an option to vote for any Item, whether it is a Crop, Tree, Machine, Animal or Decoration on a Neighbour's Farm when you give your Vote for the Contest.  On both Harvest Moon FDC and Rosewood, there are Iris Flowers.  Please do 'Like' the Iris.  I am hoping this one day will persuade the developers to return it to the Market as a permanent Crop.  On Harvest Moon FDC, there is one Love Rose and one Primrose as well.  Please 'Like' them if you can!

How to Vote
xxxxxxxxxxx

For farmers who are participating in the Contest for the first time, a brief set of instructions on voting:

First either tap on the little gold trophy on the top right of your screen or go to your Menu and tap on the Farm Beauty Contest icon there.  You will be taken to the general Farm Beauty Contest Menu.

Your Photograph
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

According to Support, your current Photograph or Screenshot is the basis for the Votes of the four Characters each day.  You cannot participate in the Contest until you submit a Photograph.  You can change your Photograph once each day, but many players do not do so unless they have changed something on their farms to obtain more Votes either from the Characters or to achieve a better global rating by increasing Charm Points.

To take a new Screenshot, access the General Farm Beauty Contest Menu.Tap on 'My Screenshot' and then tap on the small icon of My Screenshot that appears in the top left corner. Now you will see options below to 'Re-Take or to 'Check'.    You will see an option to write a new message to visitors and potential Voters as well.   Tap on Re-Take when your Farm is at its best and a new Screenshot will be submitted.  To write a new message, tap on the script box and you will have the option to change it and then 'Save' it.

When you access the Farm Beauty Contest menu and then tap on My Snapshot, you should see a countdown of how much time remains until the next Character Votes are logged for you to collect.

Boosting Character Votes
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Now, how can you boost the Votes of the four Characters even if your Charm totals are low and you cannot afford to buy Theme Decorations with real Cash?

First of all, each of the four Characters bases his/her Votes on different aspects of your Farm as you can see from the list of farming aspects that each favours..  As shown in the list of Theme Decorations, there are three Characters who give Votes for the Theme. Votes are given by different Characters, however, for a wide variety of Crops, for Trees, for Animals and for Machines.  Gallery Registration will give you Votes with two Characters.  Expansions count as well...

So what I suggest to every Farmer is to make certain that you have registered as many items on your Farm as possible before the Contest begins and if you cannot complete this task prior to the start, keep registering your Items until they all have been added to the Gallery.  This cannot give you more than a total of 16 Votes daily but if you do qualify for the maximum number of Votes for Gallery from the two Characters that value this aspect of Farming, you will be in a good position.

Expansions give Votes as well.  Actually, you can get the maximum of 16 Votes for Expansions even without the last farm expansion.

It is not mere ownership of items that gives Votes but PLACEMENT of them on your Farm.  When the Contest begins, place a good balance of Animals and Machines on your Farm and plant a variety of Crops as well as making certain that you have as many different types of Trees as possible.  Again, each of these aspects of farming will not give more than a total of 16 to 24 of the Votes of the Character or Characters who value them.  As indicated, each Character has four different categories of farming upon which his or her Votes are based.

The one aspect of Character votes that is difficult to obtain is the maximum given for 'high Levels'.  It appears that one would have to be at Level 150 in order to obtain the maximum number of Character Votes for high level.  At Level 90, you obtain only 9 Votes!

As previously discussed, Charm is valued by some of the Characters but piling Decorations on your Farm is pointless as there is a ceiling to the number of Votes given by the Characters for your Charm. I therefore would recommend that farmers who cannot place in the top 50 globally focus more on creating a balanced Farm with a good mixture of Crops, Trees, Animals and Machines than attempting to load your Farm with duplicate Decorations or indeed Decorations that are not cleanable once you have exhausted your normal stock of Theme Decorations and a certain number of Charm points.  The members of my Group on Facebook, Family Farm Seaside Freyashawk and I experimented with this during the last Contest to see how Votes would be affected.  It really did not require too many Decorations to achieve the maximum number of Votes from a Character who valued either Charm or Theme... beyond that, one was using space on the farm that would be better allocated to ANOTHER aspect of farming that would garner Votes from a Character.

Theme-related Decorations only add to 'Theme' Votes from a Character ONCE.

Now, this is how low level Farmers can benefit from full participation in the Contest. There is a list of Rewards given for achieving specific Vote totals.  Every couple hundred Votes or so, you will receive a specific Reward.  Most of them consist of Farm Aids, Coins and Purple Mystrons but there is a Decoration Reward and at the very top of the list, two Rewards that consist of RC, the final one being paired with a special Avatar.  In the current Contest, the Decoration is a  Balloon Decoration that no doubt can be placed on the Lovely Planter Base when it is complete.  The Decoration really is more significant than the Avatar Reward for most farmers.

Your Votes from the four Characters DO make a difference, therefore, even if you cannot achieve huge totals of Votes or place globally.  You can achieve a number of the Rewards on the list if you maintain a balanced Farm.

NONE of this will count, however, if you do not take photos of your Farm.  The Votes of the four Characters are determined by your CURRENT PHOTO in the Contest.  In other words, give your Farm the greatest advantages in terms of Crops, Trees, Animals and Machines as well as Decorations,  take your photograph and THEN AND ONLY THEN store items or do whatever is necessary for REAL work on your Farm.  A new time-restricted Mission should be released next Friday if everything goes according to the regular schedule.  You may need to store items in order to produce products and so on... so start your day by registering for the Farm Beauty Contest by taking a photo after you have made your Farm as profitable, vote-wise as possible.  You then will be free to get on with the business of real farming.

Buddy System and Easter Picnic Base
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The Buddy System is becoming increasingly important and both the Easter Picnic Base and the Buddy Easter Egg, two Theme items are linked to the Buddy option.

You need Festival Mystrons to build the Easter Picnic Base.  All materials for the base are found in the new Festival Mystrons shop.  One of the ways to earn these Festival Mystrons is by tending the new Buddy Easter Egg.

You need to be at Level 2 with a Buddy to be able to interact with his/her Buddy Trees and Buddy Easter Egg.  Here are some tips about increasing your Buddy Levels and the value of the new items used to tend the Buddy Easter Egg.

Each of the Materials costs 60 Festival Mystrons.  Go to the Festival Mystrons shop to find them.  Note that you can buy only one of each in any given day so it is better to use them as you receive them rather than saving them.

Buddy Easter Egg
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The Buddy System is becoming increasingly important in Seaside and if you wish to be able to participate fully in all options, you really need a few good Buddies.   The new Buddy Easter Egg can be found in the Red Mystrons Shop for 50 Red Mystrons.  It can be upgraded to a total of 400 Buddy Heart Points before it disappears, much like the Christmas special Buddy items.

There are four different ways to tend a Buddy Easter Egg but you need to be at Level 2 with the Buddy to be able to interact with his/her Buddy Trees and Buddy Easter Egg.  At Level 1, however, you can send and receive one of the items used to tend the Buddy Easter Egg.  Two of the items can be crafted in the Beauty Shop.  The fourth item simply is 1 RC.

Thus, if you have come late to the Buddy System, the first move is to ask your neighbours to be your Buddies.  The second is to level up in your relationship by visiting your Buddies every day until you reach Level 1 when you can begin to send and receive the Coloured Pencils that are used to tend the Buddy Trees.

Whenever you visit your Buddies, you can perform the same actions that you perform when you visit ordinary Neighbours but each will give a Buddy Point.  These actions include:  fertilising or harvesting a total of 5 Crops or watering a total of 5 Trees or any combination of these actions.  Another point is earned when you clean any cleanable Decoration.  If there is a current Cooking Stand Contest and any Cooking Bags to be collected, you will earn an extra point for doing that.  Now you can earn a few more points AFTER you have performed 5 farming actions by using your own fertilisers or watering cans on your Buddy's Farm but this is not possible until you reach a higher level with the Buddy.  At Level 0, you cannot do this.

When you reach Level 1 with any Buddy, make certain that you 'Confirm' the Buddy relationship in your Buddy List.  Now move forward to earn Buddy Points to reach Level 2.  Level 2 really is the critical level.

Meanwhile, you can make the two Buddy Easter Egg items in your Beauty Shop.  At Level 2 with any Buddy, you should be able to tend a Buddy Easter Egg twice every day.  Why is this important?  Well, if you purchased the Easter Picnic Base and wish to complete it, the only method of doing it is by purchasing the materials in the temporary Festival Mystron Shop using Festival Mystrons.  Each reward bag that you receive from tending a Buddy Easter Egg contains Festival Mystrons.  Not many by any means, but you will need as many as you can collect!

At Level 1 with any Buddy, you not only can begin to send and receive Free Gifts but you can send and receive Special Gifts.  There are two paths that can be purchased with Coins and sent every hour.  The Special Gifts are found in the second tab of the Buddy Gifts Menu.  The two Coin purchases are:

Stone and Flower Path: 500 Coins
  Send every hour

Forest Path: 800 Coins
  Send every hour

Each are worth only 1 Buddy Point but it adds another point to the points you earn daily with your visits.

If you are willing to spend RC, there are other gifts that either add more Buddy Points, like the Elephant that costs 10 RC and adds 30 Buddy Points or useful Farm Aids such as Super Fertiliser and Super Watering Cans.  At high levels, you probably receive enough of these through farming rewards but at lower levels, you may find that you need to purchase them from time to time.  Why not make an arrangement with a Buddy to reciprocate instead of purchasing them for yourself?  That way, you will gain in Buddy Levels while receiving the items you need.

One advantage of the Buddy Gifts is that you can attach a message to any gift that you send.  Another way to communicate both with Buddies and with Neighbours is by joining a Facebook Group for Seaside.  My group is Family Farm Seaside Freyashawk.   We are active, friendly and helpful players.  If you need good neighbours or Buddies, you will find them there.  I post Buddy Request threads for players frequently as it is difficult to maintain a total of 15 active Buddies sometimes.

All you have to do to apply to the group is do a Facebook search for Freyashawk and Family Farm Seaside, then ask to join.

Buddy Easter Egg Items:

New Buddy Item:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The Buddy Easter Egg is listed as a Theme Decoration but is in fact a Buddy item that is placed on the farm and 'built' by your Buddies.  When fully upgraded, it will disappear.  You will be able to find it in the Red Mystrons Mystery Shop from 12 March onward.  Like the special Christmas Buddy items in the form of the Snow Mailbox and Bench, it is not a permanent item in the Buddy System.

As with the special Christmas items, there are new aids that can be crafted for the Buddy Easter Egg as follows:

Rabbit Ears: 274 Coins, takes 10 minutes
Ingredients:  1 Angora Hair, 1 Daisy, 1 Red Rose

Painting Brush: 332 Coins, takes 3 minutes
Ingredients:  1 Wool, 1 Cane, 1 Rainbow Fruit

The Coloured Pencil Set is the other aid that can be used to tend the Buddy Easter Egg now and can be requested from your Buddies as a Free Gift.

Other than that, you only can opt to use 1 RC to tend a Buddy Easter Egg at present.

Yesterday, my game showed me the new Buddy Easter Egg items as the items used to tend Buddy Trees as well.  This was a glitch.  You still use the regular items for the Trees.

Note that you will receive only 1 Gift Bag per day for each item used.  In other words, if you have the option to use Buddy Heart Items twice because you are at Level 2 or above with a Buddy, you only can receive 1 Gift Bag from the Painting Brush.  Use of a second Painting Brush will give you Buddy Points but no Bag.  To receive a second Gift Bag, you need to use a DIFFERENT Heart Item on the Buddy Egg.  Use the Bunny Ears rather than the three Coloured Pencils if possible as the Bunny Ears gives a better Gift Bag.  The use of 1 RC gives the best Gift Bag but that can become expensive!

When the Buddy Easter Egg is claimed, helpers will receive a Helper Easter Egg Helper Gift (either one or two depending on how high the Buddy ranks in terms of how many points he/she gave to the Egg when it was being built) that contains 2 Festival Mystrons and 3 Green Mystrons (or other).

Easter Picnic Base and Buddy Easter Egg
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

It is becoming clear that if you wish to complete your Easter Picnic Base without waiting for all the activities to expire so you can use RC, you MUST do as much as possible where activities that yield Festival Mystrons are concerned.  The new Buddy Easter Egg items when you use one to tend a Buddy's Easter Egg give you a few Festival Mystrons.  The number of Festival Mystrons is determined by the item used.  You will receive Coins and random Farm Aids as well from every item.

Here is what I obtained:

Buddy Easter Egg Helper Gift from 1 RC: Contains 4 Festival Mystrons, 100 Coins, 1 Farm Aid such as Fertiliser

Buddy Easter Egg Helper Gift from Brush:  Contains 3 Festival Mystrons, 100 Coins and 1 Farm Aid (Watering Can, Power or...)

Buddy Easter Egg Helper Gift from Bunny Ears:  Contains 2 Festival Mystrons, 100 Coins and 1 Farm Aid (Watering Can, Power or...)

Buddy Easter Egg Helper Gift from Coloured Pencils:  Contains 1 Festival Mystron, 100 Coins and 5 Farm Aids (OP, or...)

You need 60 Festival Mystrons for each Material.  The total number of Materials needed to complete the base will cost a total of 2400 Festival Mystrons... a very slow process indeed!

Note that the Buddy Easter Tree can be upgraded in the same way that the Trees or Christmas Buddy items were upgraded.  The Buddy Easter Tree will go into a 'growth' period lasting almost 8 hours when it reaches 200 points. It can be upgraded twice in this manner and then be fully built and disappear when it reaches a total of 400 Buddy Hearts.

The Buddy Heart Point Values for each item have been confirmed and are:

3 Coloured Pencils (a single use) gives 2 Buddy Heart Points
1 Bunny Ears gives 5 Buddy Heart Points
1 Painting Brush gives 10 Buddy Heart Points
1 RC gives 20 Buddy Heart Points

When the Buddy Easter Egg is fully grown, you can claim it, with the following rewards: 6 Festival Mystrons, extra reward of either 700 Coins or 5 Green Mystrons.  Those who helped the most will receive 2[ special Bunny Helper Bags.  The others who helped will receive 1 special Bunny Helper Bag.
