Nessie Quest and Tartans Collection Mission

An 11 day quest has been released consisting of a traditional 16 step quest sequence in tandem with a Collection Mission.  The reward for the Collection Mission is a Collectable in the form of the Rutabaga Basket.  (Many of us call them Swedes without any attempt to diminish the dignity of the Swedish people or nation!)

For low level farmers, I suggest that you complete the Collection Mission first always.  You will be able to find the item that is given as a Reward in the Market once the Quest expires but you will have to pay RC for it.  Even if you cannot complete the traditional Quest sequence, performing as many tasks as possible will give you Coins and XP.  In some cases, you will be able to access this Quest later through the Lighthouse but you will not be able to perform the Collection Mission linked to it once the 11 days expire.

This Quest has very few Crop tasks, comparatively speaking, but is heavy on production.  The final Reward is a Bagpipe Bear Decoration.    I have added all relevant details now, but this one was slow for me for a number of reasons.

I almost made a decision to stop my work on this site after four years, but the number of farmers who have told me they still use my site and find it helpful was overwhelming, so I shall continue.  If you have your own Facebook Group and use my site for input, you certainly are welcome to post a link or use the information as long as you give Freyashawk credit for it.  That is fair, is it not?

For the first time in many months, Freyashawk's farm, Harvest Moon FDC did not place in the top ten in the Farm Beauty Contest.  I was saddened by this, but when I looked at the number of Votes I did receive, I realised that farmers had worked hard to try to place me in the top ranks and for that, I am extremely grateful.  I have been blessed to find many good friends through the years in the course of playing Family Farm Seaside and having the Family Farm Seaside Freyashawk Groups on Facebook.  Bless you all and I wish you a fabulous New Year!  Thank you so much for being my friends and Neighbours and Buddies.

Note that the Tree required for the Collection Mission is the Quince Tree, a premium Tree.  I have noticed an increasing tendency for players to request items in Chat rather than purchasing the source item.  This can be good as a temporary solution but you really do better if you have all the premium Trees... they are required again and again in actual tasks, which means that you actually need to HARVEST them to complete the task.  A tip for lower level players:  look for the premium items in the various Mystron Shops on a daily basis if you do not have sufficient RC to purchase them.  There are benefits to the purchase of premium items, however, especially if they are offered in the special sales.  This is how you raise your Club Level quickly.  Recently, the Oil Press was offered for the first time in a couple of years as a special offer, but it only appeared for players who had a high Country Club level.

The Rutabaga by the way is more popular in the U.K. than in the U.S.  It is known as a Swede and is absolutely delicious when mashed and fixed with a little butter and salt.  It is sweeter and less bitter than a turnip.

The White Goat is a premium animal needed for the Quest.  The developers are using premium items in these quests more and more frequently.

TIP:  Look at the list of tasks to see where to set the Monkey Boost for the day BEFORE you begin the Quest.  I usually opt for the reduction of OP for Batch Production with these quests.  It can make a significant difference.

Christmas Rush Activity Stage Activity

There is a new Activity Stage activity with five and a half more days to run.  It is 'Christmas Rush' wherein you simply make various items and trade them for Christmas Socks that then are used to claim various Rewards.

The items to make are;

Steak Burger: 1 Christmas Sock

Sinterklaas Marzipan: 3 Christmas Socks
Baked Rice Pudding: 30 Christmas Socks

Sinterklaas Marzipan requires 1 Sugar Cubes and 1 Almond Paste and is made in the Kitchen (page 24)

Baked Rice Pudding is a Stove House Recipe.  If you do not own it, you can purchase it in the Market for 9 RC.
It requires: 2 Cinnamon, 2 Rice, 5 Milk, 2 Sugar and 6 Power.  Maximum cooking time is 20 seconds so throw everything into the oven and tap Finish after 13 seconds when the star activates.1

Tap the Gold Chest to claim your Rewards as you earn them.  You will earn a number of subsidiary Rewards including Snow Hedges and Yellow Mystrons.

Family Christmas Quest and Holiday Ornaments Collection

(Above, you will see the Holiday Elf Decoration stacked on a Snow Base with the new Bear in a Sock Decoration.  Cozy Santa and Christmas Arch are the other new premium Decorations for the season but oddly cannot be stacked.  You can own a total of three Snow Bases.  The one behind the Holiday Elf shows the premium decorations from last year, now available again in various DIY offers and in the Boutique Decoration section of the Market.  Saint and Pete represent a very old European tradition and if you did not earn them long ago, you can purchase the decoration from the Gallery using Yellow Mystrons.  The Gingerbread House can be purchased with Blue Mystrons or found in the Lucky Wheel/Share Box as can other older decorations shown here.  The Christmas Snowman seen on the upper left is the current Activity Stage activity and complete now at Level 6.)

There is a new time-restricted Quest in tandem with a Collection Mission.

The reward for completing the Collection Mission is a new Stove House Recipe in the form of the Winter Cake Recipe.  For low level farmers, I always suggest that you complete the Collection Mission first.  If you cannot complete the traditional Quest sequence, you may be able to access it again from the Lighthouse after expiration of this time, but the Reward from any Collection Mission will have to be purchased for RC.

The reward for completing the traditional Quest is a Holiday Elf Decoration that is stackable on the Snow Base.  A nice gesture is the Christmas Package Reward when you complete Part 8.  It contains 6 Christmas Fences.

I am not that concerned with perfection in the Stove House.  I made it as follows:  Place Cake Flour in Oven and set timer for 10 minutes.  Place Eggnog and Blue Rose in Oven and set timer for 4 minutes.  Add Sugar and tap 'Finish' as soon as the Bronze Star activates. (Less than a minute later).

Seaside Resort and other new options

Most recent update on 30 September with Quail's Run and Beach Luau Quests

(Above is the new Sea Resort Farm, very similar in operation to the aquatic farm in the original Family Farm Seaside game.

The update has two separate main components.  One is the new Sea Resort, available to most players.  The other is a series of new Quests that really require advanced Dev Points to complete as well as a lot of items from your Barn.

There are other aspects to the update that involve the end of Zeppelin traffic, another slot in the Nursery and more.  These are discussed at the end of this post.

There are new untimed Quests for the Island as well.  How these appear on your screen will vary from farm to farm.

As you will see, the Geography Lesson Quest requires 6000 Dev Points and the Pizza Machine and Mastery of the latter.

SEASIDE RESORT

This is your third farm in effect and is aquatic in nature.  Crops are grown in the water and Habitats hold sea creatures.  You will need a total only of 1000 Dev Points to be able to unlock the Sea Resort.  Tap on the Sea Plane to see the requirements... they are given below as well.

(Above, the first Quest for the Seaside Resort.  Players of the original Family Farm Seaside will be familiar with the third farm in that game, which is mainly aquatic in nature like this one.)

Seaside Resort

This is an Aquatic Farm with its own water crops, Habitats and so on. YOU EARN RESORT POINTS  BY COMPLETING ORDERS IN THE OCEAN CAFE.  Later, you will earn Resort Points in the Beach Souvenir Shop as well.   It is your Resort Point totals that determine your Level in the Sea Resort.  To advance to Level 2, you need a total of 1000 Resort Points. 

N.B.  Gaining Resort Points is one of those hands-on, endless fussy activities wherein you must collect the coins from the items sold every 20 and 40 minutes from the Ocean Cafe.  Obviously, the higher your upgrade level of the Cafe, the more items you can collect at once, but it still requires their endless collection!  It is 'busy work'.  The speed at which you can raise your level depends partly on your ability to collect again and again and restock as well as being lucky in the random items the game selects.  For a player who is in-game constantly, items that can be sold quickly may be most beneficial but to the player who only can play occasionally, the items that take a few hours to sell are far better.

At Level 2, at 1000 Resort Points, you unlock a new Crop in the form of the Lily Pad and your first machine in the form of the Sea Urchin Lamp Machine.  You can expand your Sea Resort as well as one of the requirements for the 1st Expansion is to reach Level 2.

About the Seaside Resort

There are three buildings that give Orders in the Sea Resort: Ocean Cafe, Beach Souvenir Shop and Tropical Spa House.  Only the Ocean Cafe is unlocked initially.

Each order requires that you add 1 product to the Showcase.  You either need to wait until the timer runs out or use TC to speed before you can complete any Order.  When you complete a specific number of Orders, a new Showcase will be unlocked.  If you wish to upgrade for more shelves, tap the green arrow and complete all requirements.

At Level 3, you will unlock the Bubble Flower Crop and with the 2nd Expansion, you will have the Beach Souvenir Shop, another Shop where items randomly are chosen to be sold in Showcases.  Note that, at Level 3, you will unlock a new Theme for your Sea Resort as well.  The Themes are similar to the different looks for the Pet House.  You can change them at will once unlocked and there is no cost for any of them.

The Ocean Cafe allowed me to place a single item it demanded in the form of the Fern Flower.  This takes 20 minutes to sell but you can use TC to speed process.   I was able to place two separate Fern Flowers and use TC to sell quickly.  When I had sold a total of three, a different item opened as a second 'Showcase' queue in the form of Apple Juice.

With three sales, I had two separate Showcase items for sale as follows:

Fern Flower, 20 minutes, 128 Coins, 10 Resort Points
Apple Juice: 40 minutes, 11 Coins, 20 Resort Points

(Note that the items are different for every farm and change every couple of days when the timer expires.)

When you have a total of 297 sales, you will obtain a third item.  The items vary from farm to farm and will change.

To upgrade your Ocean Cafe to Level 2, you need:

10 Wooden Cylinders
50 Cranberry Pie
50 Oat Bread
50 Milk

At Level 2, I was given two more slots, one for each item...   If you look at the photo below, the bottom slot represents the actual item needed, not a slot for an item.  At Level 1, you have one slot and one Showcase; at level 2, another one next to it, your second Showcase. At Level 3, I received one more slot for each of the items.

Note that the actual items the game assigns are randomly chosen and each has a different value and a different time allocated to it.  On Asgard, it was Fern Flower and Apple Juice.  The first was worth 10 Resort Points and the second worth 20 and the time for the second was 40 minutes where the time for the first was 20 minutes.  On Harvest Moon FDC, I had Green Lettuce and Lavender Cupcake.  Lavender Cupcake sale takes 3 hours to complete but it worth far more in Resort Points with a value of 90 Points.

Below, Level 2 Ocean Cafe:

To upgrade to Level 3, you will need:

50 Mocha Coffee
10 Wooden Planks
50 Whole Oat Fruit Bread
50 Pineapple Jam

To upgrade to Level 4, you will need:

Until you have sold 297 products, you will not be able to add anything else or upgrade further.

When you have sold a total of 297 products, a third item will be offered in a third Showcase.  You will have the same number of slots for this third item as you have for the other two, so the number you can sell is based on your upgrade status here.

Now you need to sell a total of 500 products in order to obtain a fourth Showcase.  The same rules apply with all the different Shops, including the Beach Souvenir Shop.

Note here that there are a number of different components to the Ocean Cafe.  The first is the number of different items for sale... the second is the total number of EACH item that you can sell at any given time. 

The Level of the Ocean Cafe is not the same as the Level of your Sea Resort, although it is through the Ocean Cafe that you earn the Resort Points needed to raise your Sea Resort Level.

Beach Souvenir Shop

Christmas Mood Farm Beauty Contest

The following is taken from an older Farm Beauty Contest post but essentially the same rules still apply.  One difference is that you need fewer Landscape Points now for maximum votes from the Characters for Landscape 'beautiful paths'.

A suggestion here:  Obviously, if you can have your Farm organised for maximum votes in all categories on the first day BEFORE you take the photograph to enter, it will give you more Votes on that day, but if you do not have time for that, at least enter as early as possible, then take a new photograph for the contest once you have gone through all the categories and made certain you have maximum Crops, Animals, Trees, Machines and Theme Decorations as well as sufficient Paths to make the Landscape Point total needed.

The following is taken from a post I wrote for an earlier Farm Beauty Contest but I believe all the same rules still apply:

You really do need to maximise the Votes from the four Characters if you wish to achieve the Decoration at 4000 Votes or the Avatar at 6000 Votes.  Asking for Votes from other players is NOT the answer unless you are very close to 200 Votes per day from the 4 Characters or 300 Votes per day from the same 4 Characters.  Try to organise your farm to maximise votes from the very first day.  It can make a huge difference to your vote total.

Originally, you would obtain the Reward Decoration in the Contest if you were receiving a total of 200 votes per day from the Characters without ever needing votes from other farmers.  The Contest length was changed... now I believe you need 182 votes per day to reach the 4000 Vote total that gives you the Decoration.  The Decoration is the most important reward of the contest.  You will find it again and again in Theme Lists in the future.

It is the current photograph or Snapshot of your Farm that is the basis for ALL Votes, not the current state of your Farm if you changed anything.  In other words, take your time to organise your Farm BEFORE you take the initial 'Snapshot' for entry to the Contest.  This can make a big difference as every day counts in these contests.

You can take a new snapshot every day but there is no reason to do so if you have maximised your Farm for all possible Votes.

The key to this is balance.  You need to have a variety of Crops on the Farm.  Try to have 16 different Crops growing... the total number needed may be lower from 12 to 13 but it is easy to grow different Crops and you have nothing to lose.

You need to have at least 12 different Machines on your Farm to obtain the maximum Votes for Machines from Dad.  Some players claim that the Salad Machine has counted as two Machines in the past but again, to be safe, move as many Machines onto your Farm as possible before you take your initial Snapshot.

Do the same with respect to your Trees.  You need a variety of Trees.  Duplicates never count.  Most players should not have any trouble in placing 16 different types of Trees on the farm.  I believe that the total needed is less, possibly 12 or 13 but again, it does no harm to be safe.

Finally, there are the Animals.  Butterfly Houses and Beehives of each type count as Animals and every type counts as a different Animal.

Landscape Points count for Votes with three of the Characters.  You do not even need 2300 Landscape Points to maximise these votes.  I believe the actual total now is closer to 2100 points but need to confirm for the current contest.  Recently, the game changed to add Landscape Points to Charm Points for a new total.  I will try to pinpoint the number required for maximum votes.

Expansions are another good source of votes.  You only need to have performed a few expansions to gain maximum votes from Felicia and Dad for expansions.

Another category is your Gallery.  Now that you can register Crops and other items, even low level players should be able to maximise votes for a good Gallery.  Votes are based on the totals of the items you have registered.  Your Gallery 'upgrades' at specific totals.

Finally there are votes for a 'high level' farm.  I have not achieved the maximum on Harvest Moon FDC yet because I believe you still have to be at Level 150 now for this.

'Theme' gives votes from three of the four Characters.  Your best bet to maximise your Theme Votes if you have not played long or did not collect Reward Decorations for any other reason would be to purchase the Bear in a Sock from the special sale offer in the top right of the screen and when they are released, the  They are expensive but if you are not at maximum for Theme, the first can give you 9 extra Votes for theme each day from the Characters and the Cozy Santa can give 6 extra votes for theme from the Characters..  Two old Decorations now in special offers again that can give 6 extra votes as well for theme if you have not reached maximum are the Festive Angel and Wind-Up Reindeer.

EVEN AN UNFINISHED SNOW BASE GIVES 1 VOTE EACH FOR THEME FROM THREE OF THE CHARACTERS IF YOU HAVE NOT REACHED MAXIMUM FOR THEME.  NOTE THAT, FOR THE FIRST TIME, THERE ARE TWO OLD DECORATIONS THAT GIVE MORE THAN ONE VOTE PER DAY FROM THREE OF THE CHARACTERS FOR THEME.  THESE ARE THE FESTIVE ANGEL AND WIND-UP REINDEER.

Obtaining Theme Items:  There are more options now to purchase items in Seaside.  Trees can be found in the Special Deal (Daily) section of the Market and Decorations often can be purchased directly from the Gallery as well as being found in Special Offer bundles and in the new Boutique Decoration section of the Market.  The Decorations loaded into the Lucky Wheel each month usually include a number of Theme Decorations for the current Farm Beauty Contest as well.

There are only two totals in terms of votes that are relevant for most farmers.  The most important is the 4000 Vote total that gives you the Decoration Reward.  With 6000 Votes, you receive an Avatar and 3 RC.  Beyond that, very few farmers benefit from extra votes.

If you are my neighbour and use my site and find it of benefit, please consider sending your votes to Freyashawk's farm, which is Harvest Moon FDC.  I am not a better neighbour or better farmer than others but I do work very hard on this site and I spend considerable real cash sometimes to expedite new options so I can log them for other farmers.  I have been working on this guide for a number of years now.  It really does make me feel my efforts make a difference when Harvest Moon FDC is placed in the top 10 globally in the Farm Beauty Contest.  I really do not enjoy the competition aspect of these contests.  I would like to see every farmer receive the Decoration.  On the other hand, I make absolutely no money for continuing to write this guide.  I have refused Google's invitation to allow advertising on my site.  It is against my principles.  I definitely could use the money but I find advertisements obnoxious and they overload some players' devices and prevent easy access to sites, so I never include them.  I try to keep my site as simple as possible.  Thank you for your continuing support of my farm, Harvest Moon FDC.
