A new time-restricted Quest has been released in Farmily Farm Seaside. As usual, it includes both a Collections Mission and a traditional Quest sequence and, as has been the case in recent months, the traditional Quest sequence is divided essentially into three sections, each consisting of four Parts. At the end of every section, you will receive a special reward. The first is a Special Mission Gift Box given after you complete Taste of Paris IV and consists of Farm Aids. The second is given when you complete Taste of Paris VIII and consists of a Decoration for your Seaside Farm. The third is given when you complete Taste of Paris XII and is a Decoration for your Island Farm. To complete the last section of the Quest sequence, you will need access to the Island or be obliged to pay a fair amount of RC to skip tasks that require Island access.
New Recipes in the Kitchen are included in tasks for the traditional Quest sequence.

Strategies for Mission
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Many of the Items you will need to complete Tasks themselves are the subject of Tasks in the traditional Quest sequence, meaning that it would be counter-productive to prepare or produce these in advance, but there are others that are not themselves required as Tasks but are ingredients in Recipes. Some of these include 6 Smoked Salmon needed for a Recipe Task and 6 Gooseberry Confiture, an ingredient in a Recipe that is a Task in the sequence. It may not sound like much but if you can make these in advance, so much the better. Furthermore, it now is possible to purchase seafood items in the Coin Mystery Shop as well as fishing for them. I purchase every single seafood item I find in the Shop as I do not like the fishing option much and am unwilling to use too many items to 'boost' the fishing option to catch a specific item. You obviously will need a total of 6 Salmon in order to be able to process them into Smoked Salmon in your Smoke House.
For the Kir Breton, you can make the Ingredients in advance as follows:
Kir Breton is made with Apple Cider and Blackcurrant Sauce
For each Apple Cider, you need Yeast x 4 and Apple x 3
Yeast is produced by a Yeast Barrel, a temporary 'collectable' that can
be purchased in the Market. If you haven't stored Yeast in your Barn,
buy the Yeast Barrel as soon as possible as you cannot speed the
production of any 'collectable'.
For each Blackcurrant Sauce, you will need Sour Cream and Blackcurrant Jello
Sour Cream requires Buffalo Milk x 2 and Butter x 2
Blackcurrant Jellow requires Blackcurant and Sugar x 2
Note that this is not the only dish that requires Sugar. Best always to make certain you have adequate stocks of Sugar in your Barn for situations such as this.
As previously indicated, you now can use Batch Production on the Island but any use of OP on the Island is hideously expensive. Where the cost of speeding production of one item is 10 OP on the original Seaside Farm, it is 30 OP on the Island. The cost of using Batch Production to produce 60 Linen for example is 240 OP. To produce 60 Cranberry Pies would require more than 450 OP in Batch Production.

New Options in Seaside: Building Plots and Garden on Island
There are a number of new options in Family Farm Seaside.
Some are less major than others but very useful, including the introduction of Batch Production to the Island and, when one accesses Crops in the Market, the total number of each Crop that is stored currently in your Barn.
One of the new options is a number of new possible expansions on your original Seaside Farm. Be warned, however, that these are not ordinary expansions but only 'Building Plots' where you can place your Buildings such as the Kitchen, Beauty Shop, Well, Cooking Stand, Warehouse and so on and the Cropinator. You cannot place Decoration Buildings here nor can you place plots here.
As previously indicated, one welcome new option on the Island is Batch Production. You now can use Batch Production both on Island Animals and Island Machines. This will help enormously with Missions as well as earning Mastery. In using Batch Production, you will have all existing upgrades to your Batch Production station.
Another new option on the Island is the Garden option. Here you can grow new flowers in pots. Flowers can be cross-bred and in some instances, placed in a Neighbour's garden.
Note that the Mystery section of the Market has been expanded to include items that can be purchased with Coins. Today, these items included Trimmers x 10 for 8000 Coins, Green Mystrons x 4 for 200 Coins, Tulip for 63 Coins, 1 Oval Stone for 100 Coins, a Blue Swimmer Crab, a Plum and a Chrysanthemum. You can purchase only one of each Item offered. If the item is in the form of a set, such as the Green Mystrons x 4, you can purchase only one set. The Coin section of the Mystery Shop is quite separate from the Green Mystron and Yellow Mystron sections.
Note that you can refresh the list of items that can be purchased with Coins in the Mystery Shop by tapping on the clock at the right top of the screen when the Shop window is open. You will be able to see as well how long you must wait until you can refresh the list again without paying. It appears that you can refresh the list four times before you must wait four more hours. When I refreshed for the third time, I actually was able to purchase Electric Saws and a Treasure Chest using Coins. Quite interesting. Parts for Island Machines were available as well. Island Crops and Products now can be found in the Coin section of the Mystery Shop which allows players to amass items they have not unlocked yet for the purpose of Helicopter Orders.
Incidentally, after refreshing four times, there was no option to speed the time needed to change the Menu. One has to wait it out.
It appears as though there is a total of 12 places for flowerpots in the garden and four places for Neighbour flowerpots. Only two of your own places will be unlocked at the start. Tools that can be used on flowerpots include trowels called 'spades' and trimmers. These can be used at specific intervals only. It apepars that one cannot purchase any of the possible upgrades for the Garden, whether in the form of more places for flowerpots or to unlock the 'Glasshouse'. You only can unlock new options by growing flowers and engaging in other Garden actions.
Other tools apart from the Spade and Trimmer that will be unlocked at higher levels include Insectiside, a UV Light and Music.
Your Garden Level is displayed on a pillar with a five-petal flower or five-point star on top of it. After planting a second flower and using 1 Trowel/Spade on each of the flowers, my Level remained Level 1 but I had earned 3 out of the 8 points needed to ascend to Level 2. Each Level upgrade requires more points.
There are three little stalls to the right of the Pillar. The first is the Mystery Shop. The second is a Flower Book akin to your Fish Book, listing all possible Flowers and your own mastery of them. The third is a help stall, indicated by a question mark.
Once a flowerpot is placed, tending the flower is time-based. The icon of the Tool that is needed to tend the Flower will appear above the flowerpot and, provided you have the Tool ins question, all that is needed is a tap of a finger. It appears that the actual Tool that is needed is random, although certain tools such as the UV Light and Insecticide require a specific level of Garden experience.
The Flower Book contains the following:
Ordinary Flower Chapter:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Venus Flytrap
Viola Tricolour
Chrysanthemum
Epiphyllum
All ordinary Flowers can be purchased from the Shop. You need to access the Shop regularly to see what is available on any given day at any given time. Remember that you can refresh the list of Items offered for Coin purchase.
Each Flower has a different growing time and the time that must elapse before another Tool can be used is different in each case. The Chrysanthemum is one of the slowest-growing flowrs. The Viola Tricolour appears to be one of the fastest. You need not grow two of the same type of Flower in order to complete the requirement to grow 2 Level 2 Flowers for the Mission. Obviously you do not need two of the same type to create a hybrid. As the Mystery Shop Coin Menu will change each time you refresh, you can choose to wait until the flower you want appears, even when you have an empty space in your garden.

Mystery Shop
xxxxxxxxxxxx
The new Mystery Shop offers the opportunity to buy new Flowers for the Garden, more implements for the Garden, as well as items from both the original Seaside Farm and the Island Farm, provided always that you have unlocked the Island and the Garden. If not, you will not see the Items from the Garden or the Island Items. On my second farm initially, I had unlocked the Island but not made the expansion that allowed the Garden to appear. I therefore saw only regular Island Items and Seaside Items in the Mystery Shop. Note, however, that Crops and products you may not have unlocked yet WILL appear in the Mystery Shop from time to time, as well as a multitude of Sea creatures. For players like me who dislike the fishing option, it is great to be able to buy seafood supplies in the shop now.
The Mystery Shop moreoever, in terms of the new Coin option is on a timer that allows the player to refresh up to four times, depending on the amount of time that has passed.
Be advised that you can have only a limit of 99 tools of any kind for the Garden. When you have 99 Spades, you cannot purchase more until you have used some of them.
Seeds for flowers cannot be stored. If you do not have a spot to plant the seed, you cannot purchase it.
Building Plot Expansions
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
There are a total of six Building Plot Expansions and each has its own set of requirements. I am sorry I did not log the first two completely but each consists of three tasks, one of which is a Cooked Dish. The first required six Grape Cornbread, I believe and the second required 3 Polish Dumplings with Sour Cream. Here is the thrid:

Time-Restricted Sharing is Caring Quest and Garlands Collection Mission
This is the second time-restricted Mission that celebrates Songkran, or the Thai New Year. Last year's mission gave us a Tuk Tuk (special vehicle of Thailand) and a Beehive that produces Honey from Lily flowers. This year, the Mission has rewards that are less connected to Thailand. I have included a section on the traditional Thai New Year Festival of Songkran at the end of this post.
This dual Mission follows the pattern of all time-restricted Quests lately. The first component is the usual Collections Mission requiring collection of flower Garlands from four different sources. The second is a traditional Quest requence called 'Sharing is Caring' that is comprised of 12 steps and further, divided into three parts, each consisting of four steps. At the end of every part, you will receive a special Reward. The first is a Special Mission Gift Box containing a few Farm Aids. The second, at the end of Sharing is Caring VIII is a Decoration for your Seaside Farm. At the end of Sharing is Caring XII, the final step, you will receive a Decoration for your Island Farm. The last four steps essentially require access to the Island, although there are tasks within those steps, such as requests for an Item from Neighbours, that do not require Island access.
One component of this traditional Quest that I find a little unfair is the need to create Camomile Baskets. This was included in the last timed Mission as well and is impossible unless you have considerable Development Points on the Island. On my first farm, I have the ability to create any sort of Basket in the Flower Basket Machine but on my second farm, although I do have access to the Island, I do not yet have a Bamboo Tree, a Panda or a Flower Basket Machine because I lack sufficient Development Points. The Panda requires 960 Dev Points, the Bamboo Tree 900 Dev Points and the Flower Basket Machine requires 1360 Dev Points. To achieve this for a player who is fairly new to the Island is almost impossible in the time given for the Mission. You therefore only have the option to use RC to complete some of the tasks if you wish to obtain the Decoration for the Island. Mind you, the price for skipping the task of creating 10 Camomile Baskets is only 5 RC as opposed to 10 RC or more, so it is not that expensive in the general scheme of things. I remember the last time-restricted Mission where, on my second farm, I had to pay far more to complete the Mission in terms of the Island tasks because my Dev. Points were woefully inadequate at the time.

Note that the number of items that require fairly high Development Points are not that significant. You can skip the Bamboo Shoot task and the Camomile Basket task for a total of 11 RC, must less than that required in the previous time-restricted Mission I believe!
The Basket Machine is unlocked only at 1360 Development Points. Points required to unlock the Bamboo Tree are 900 Dev Points but the Panda who makes the Baskets from the Bamboo Shoots costs 12 RC and is unlocked only with 960 Dev Points. If you are nowhere near a point where you can obtain 1360 Dev Points, you may wish to skip the 10 Camomile Basket task. The developers of the game have been kind here in sense as it costs only 5 RC to skip it.

The following is the entry that I wrote for last year's Songkran Mission:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Thai New Year Festival: Songkran or Songhran
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
As with respect to many ancient Festivals, the main thrust of the Thai New Year Festival originally was a prayer for rain so that the crops would grow. Fertility for the land, in other words, was the reason why people celebrated this Festival as water is the source of life and could be the difference between life and death for people who depended upon the land for sustenance.
Most New Year Festivals involve cleansing rituals and Songkran/Songhran is no exception. The images of the Buddha are bathed ritually and homes are cleaned thoroughly in preparation for a new Year. Water fights, even with the use of 'weapons' such as water guns and cannons are an offshoot of the ancient cleansing rituals and are extremely popular in modern Thailand. People give alms to monks and visit their families.
A sign of respect towards elders is to pour perfumed water on their palms. This is similar to the ritual of bathing the statues of the Buddha. Water fights may be fun, but the foundation of the tradition is that of cleansing the body and soul of all negative influences. The streets are inundated with water during this festival.
A visit to the beach to build pagodas from sand is part of the Songkran/Songhran tradition.
Beauty pageants are a contemporary way of choosing a Songkran Queen. The origins of the Songkran Queen may be found in a tale that involves King Kabilaprom and his son, Prince Thammaban. The King asked his son to describe the attributes of a good person during the morning, at noon and finally in the evening. If the Prince were to answer correctly, the King would forfeit his own head. If the Prince were to answer incorrectly, the Prince would be beheaded instead. The Prince gave the correct responses which were the head in the morning, the chest at noon and the foot in the evening. The King then had to submit to beheading.
(This obviously is a corruption of a very ancient worldwide sacrifice ritual of the King in order to allow his son or heir to take power. By sacrificing his life, the King or Ruler made certain that the land would be fertile.)
In this case, the King was so powerful that, if his head had touched the ground, a drought would occur, scorching the land. Nor could the head be tossed into the sky or into the sea. (This tale has parallels in the legends that surround other heroes in other cultures, among them Imam Husayn.) His seven angel daughters in turn carried his head clockwise round a sacred mountain, the Phra Sumane Mountain.
Each angel daughter has her own specific attributes and each has a specific day. When Songkran Day, the New Year Day falls upon the day that is associated with that Queen, her attributes will determine the course of the Year:
Tungsatevee, Sunday: Red clothing, prefers wild fruit with discus in the right hand, shell in the left hand, rides a Garuda
Korakatevee, Monday: Yellow clothing, pearl ornaments, prefers butter oil, dagger in the right hand, walking stick in the left, rides a Tiger
Ragsotevee, Tuesday: Light red clothing with agate ornaments, prefers blood, trident in the right hand, arrow in the left hand, rides a Pig
Montatevee, Wednesday: Emerald green clothing, cat's eye ornaments, prefers milk and butter, sharp iron in the right hand, walking stick in the left, rides a Donkey
Kirineetevee, Thursday: Yellow-green clothing with emerald ornaments, prefers nuts and sesame seeds, elephant hook in the right hand, gun in the left hand, rides an Elephant
Kimitatevee, Friday: White clothing with topaz ornaments, prefers bananas, dagger in the right hand, Indian vina in the left hand, rides a Buffalo
Mahotorntevee, Saturday: Black clothing with onyx ornaments, prefers hog deer meat, discus in the right hand, trident in the left hand, rides a Peacock
The Songkran Queen or an image of the Buddha is carried through the streets in many cases:

Grandma: When receiving blessings from elders, one should wish for good health and be gratefuil for the thigs they've done for us. I could see a tear in Darryl's eye when he was pouring water onto my hands. Isn't that just adorable?

Produce 10 Camomile Baskets

Skip for 5 RC
Reward: 1000 Coins, 210 XP
Reward: I'm so grateful to have them in my life!
