Doll's Day Time-Restricted Quests and Kimono Dolls Collections Mission

A new time-restricted Doll's Day Mission has been released in Family Farm Seaside.  As is usually the case, it is two-pronged, with a Collections Mission and a traditional Quest sequence.  As has been the case recently, the traditional Quest sequence is divided into three main sections, each of which consists of four parts and carries its own Reward.  The final section, from Doll's Day IX through Doll's Day XII, requires access to the Island, although only a few of the tasks actually use Island Animals or Machines.  You could conceivably buy your way out of these, although it would be expensive.

As in the past couple of time-restricted Missions, you will receive a special Mission Gift Bag for completing Doll's Day IV.  You will receive a cleanable Decoration for the Seaside Farm in the form of an Ichimatsu Doll for completing Doll's Day VIII and finally, if you complete Doll's Day XII, you will receive a cleanable Decoration for the Island Farm in the form of a Japanese Doll Set.

Dolls' Day or Hinamatsuri is a very popular Japanese folk festival and one of my personal favourites as a doll collector.   A few years ago, I wrote a post about it:

Hinamatsuri and Kokeshi Dolls in Japan

Alas, not being Japanese, I do not own a real Hina-matsuri collection but I do have a wonderful pop-up card from Japan with paper Hina-matsuri dolls.  I have a feeling that this type of display has replaced the real dolls in many households even in Japan.

The Collections Mission is as follows:

Collect Kimono Dolls

70 Green Kimono Dolls from Chardonnay
50 Pink Kimono Dolls from Love Cake
30 Red Kimono Dolls from Ketchup
10 Yellow Kimono Dolls from Laurus Tree

Reward: Adzuki Tree, which produces Adzuki
Can purchase Adzuki Tree for 6 RC if you prefer

The traditional Quest sequence is the Doll's Day sequence as follows:

Preparing for this Mission
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

This Mission requires a lot of Power as many of the tasks involve Recipes made in the Kitchen.  Every Recipe uses 1 Power.  If you have access to the Island, you will have a recurring source of Power in the Volcano, provided you have expanded to it.  30 Power is your default.  More can be earned by visiting Neighbours and collecting Gift Bags from cleaning Decoraitons or by visiting their Cooking Stands.  The Power you receive always is random and may or may not be included in the Gift Bags/Boxes.

In many cases, the Recipes you need to make use ingredients that are themselves made in the Kitchen.  Try to make these in advance if possible so that you have the full amount of Power needed for the task Recipe.  If you are involved in the Cooking Stand Mission, it may be a good idea to let that go until you have completed this time-restricted Mission.   The Cooking Stand may be time-restricted but you are given much more time to complete THAT!

A number of the Recipes require the Basic Kitchen Dishes including Cake Flour and Soft Dough. I  always try to keep quite a lot of both in my Barn for future use as they are required in many Recipes.

If you cannot bear to spend RC on Missions, you need to complete the Collections Mission by Doll's Day VII in order to redeem the Adzuki Tree  For those willing to spend a little RC, you can purchase it instead in the Market for 6 RC if you do not wish to delay the progress of the traditional Quest sequence.

Strategy for Island Production
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

It is the last four parts of Doll's Day that will take the most time as there is no batch production on the Island.  You therefore have to spend incredible amounts of OP to speed the production of any Machine (30 OP for each product!) or have more than one Machine that produces the required item.  Unfortunately, everything on the Island is expensive and furthermore, all Machines basically are unfinished when purchased, even when the cost is in RC rather than Coins.

Your first Spinning Machine will be given to you but the second will cost 12 RC and will require the following Materials:

Spinning Machine Materials List
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

5 Spinning Wheels (Request from Neighbours or buy for 1 RC each),
5 Lag Bolts (Craft or buy for 1 RC each)
20 Nuts (Craft or buy for 1 RC each)

A third Spinning Machine will cost 20 RC and require the same Materials.

To build a second Loom, you will need the following:

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Loom Materials List
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

5 Warp Beams  (Request from Neighbour or buy for 1 RC each)
5 Lag Bolts  (Craft or purchase for 1 RC each)
3 Nails  (Craft or purchase for 1 RC each)
20 Nuts (Craft or purchase for 1 RC each)

A third Loom will cost 30 RC and require the same Materials.

I daresay that you will need these Machines for many more of the time-restricted Missions in future.  You therefore may wish to invest in a second Spinning Machine and a second Loom.

The other Machine that is required in this Quest is the Pie Machine.  A second Pie Machine will cost 15 RC and will need the following to complete:

The Pie Machine will be unfinished when purchased and will require the following materials:

Feed Tray:x 5 (Request from Neighbours or pay 1 RC for each)
Lag Bolt x 8 (Craft or pay 1 RC for each)
Nail x 5 (Craft or pay 1 RC for each)
Nut x 25 (Craft or pay 1 RC for each)

The Tradition of Hina-Matsuri Festival
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The Hina-matsuri which is a Doll Festival dedicated to good fortune for Girls is known as the Momo-No-Sekku or Peach Blossom Festival as well. Peach blossoms, white rice wine and Hishi-Mochi (special rice cakes) are placed on the stand where the Hina dolls are displayed.

The Hina dolls traditionally are displayed on shelf tiers covered with a red carpet from the end of February until 3 March. When a girl is born, she often will be given a set of Hina dolls by her grandparents or parents, unless she will inherit the Hina dolls that have belonged to her family for generations.

Hina dolls traditionally represent the Emperor and Empress as well as their court. The custom was established during the Edo period in the 17th-18th century and is believed to have its roots in an ancient Chinese ritual wherein paper dolls were floated down a river to banish any evil or illness from the body.

I have written a more detailed desxription of the Festival and its origins:

Hina-matsuri or Girls' Day in Japan
